Certainly well ahead of their time, Fiona, Lily and Sophie have compiled a diary of their experiences as debutantes. The premise is to compile advice into a weekly column, Lily is the author of the column The Debutante's Revenge and Fiona is the artist who's drawings accompany it. Sophie on the other hand, holds meetings with fans of the column. Known as the Debutante Underground, they meet each Friday evening to discuss the column that published that day.
Fiona is married to an Earl, Lily a Duke and Sophie is soon to be engaged to a Marquess. Only unlike her friends she is not in love with the man she's promised to.
Henry Reese the Earl of Warshire, wasn't supposed to be Earl, he was the second son and was happy serving in the armed forces. When his brother died in a tragic accident he had to leave his men. Now he is tortured with nightmares and guilt over the men who died soon after he left. Sleep is something he needs but forces himself to stay awake.
Sophie is looking for a new venue to hold the meetings of the Debutante Underground. One of the members mentions a vacant building near where they currently meet, and Sophie checks it out after a meeting. It's late and she's surprised the door is unlocked but decides to investigate anyway. She is startled by a man she assumes is the owner and tailor Mr. Peabody, but in actuality is the Earl. This first encounter is intriguing and for the first time in a very long time the Earl sleeps peacefully.
It's not that encounter that was the most poignant to me, it's the second, where he arranges to see her in the garden at a ball. The proposition he puts forth is almost denied until he does something very sweet and romantic.
With the agreement in place an unusual relationship develops between Reese and Sophie.
The underground has a place to meet and even with her impending engagement Sophie finds herself falling in love with Reese. She is determined to do her duty and marry to save her family from financial disaster, but is in no way happy about it.
With Sophie's help Reese also starts confronting his demons and there are many surprises here as well.
Plenty of secrets and a few wonderful surprises that had me turning the pages to see if these two could possibly get their Happily Ever After.
I have to go back now and read both Lily and Fiona's stories. I love these women.

I loved reading Sophie and Reese’s story in When You Wish Upon a Rogue by Anna Bennett, book three in her Debutante Diaries series. Miss Sophie Kendall is the third partner creating “The Debutante’s Revenge,” a tell-all advice column for young ladies. Sophie’s position is in arranging the secret meetings of the Debutante Underground, a weekly gathering of women to discuss the weekly advice column. It is from these discussions that Sophie gleans ideas for future topics. Unfortunately Sophie has agreed to sacrifice herself to marry a man she does not love in order to help her family whose finances are in very bad shape. While looking for a larger meeting location Sophie encounters Henry Reese, Earl of Warshire, the owner of an abandoned shop. Reese is shocked by Sophie’s fresh approach to life and her insistence and ability to help him soothe his demons and find a peaceful slumber. These two then strike a deal, his shop in exchange for her spending one night a week with him. The problem is that Sophie and Reese never expected to share a magnetic attraction, a sizzling chemistry and a shared desire they want to act on, but cannot; since Sophie is practically engaged to another. I loved how these two star-crossed lovers risk it all, break Sophie’s impending engagement, continue to keep the names of the members of the Debutante Underground a secret, and for Sophie and Reese to finally get their happy ever after.
Ms. Bennett wrote a charming, clever, entertaining and sexy story that is not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with mysterious escapades, amusing banter, sizzling chemistry, devoted friends, and charming characters giving Sophie and Reese a chance for happiness, love and a future together. I definitely recommend When You Wish Upon a Rogue to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Sophie Kendall arranges meetings for the Debutante Underground and knows that her freedom is limited. Soon she will have to marry a man who is paying off her father's debts, whom she doesn't love and doesn't trust. Henry Reese, Earl of Warshire, is unable to sleep due to memories of his military service and the responsibilities of the earldom he didn't want or expect to have. They meet when Sophie is scouting a new meeting place, and she inexplicably helps him sleep for the first time in weeks. She will be able to hold her meetings in his property if she stays with him one night a week because he's certain she's the missing ingredient to help him sleep.
When You Wish Upon a Rogue is the third novel in the Debutante Diaries series, following The First Earl I See Tonight and The Duke Is But A Dream. It isn't necessary to read those novels first. All you need to know is that the three young ladies are close friends. Sophie gives ideas for Lily to write the column and drawings that Fiona does to accompany them. Their identities remain hidden to avoid scandal in society, so Sophie can't trust her secret to anyone outside of their little group. Even the ladies of the Debutante Underground don't know each others' full names, only first names and not even where they live.
My heart goes out to Sophie and Reese. They connect quickly, at ease in each others' company, and are able to talk about so many different topics. Sophie's fiance, in contrast, dictates whatever he wants to do regarding announcements and a ball, as well as when their engagement even takes place. Of course, he decries the Debutante's Revenge column and doesn't want Sophie to do anything other than bear children. He essentially is the stereotypical boor and a convenient villain; there's also a convenient way that the conflict gets resolved so Sophie and Reese can be together. I guessed at the ending, but it was still satisfying to see the two of them get together in the end.

I really enjoyed the plot and the characters in this book and I hope to read more books from the author in the future.

Miss Sophie Kendall is happiest arranging the secret meetings of the Debutante Underground, a group of women who come together to discuss the weekly advice column The Debutante’s Revenge. What makes Sophie most unhappy is her impending arranged marriage so that she can save her family from bankruptcy. Henry Reese, Earl of Warshire, hasn’t slept in weeks. Desperate to escape his manor house and its haunting memories, he heads for one of his abandoned London properties. There he meets a beautiful, intriguing woman—trespassing. Reese is far less interested in Sophie’s search for a secret meeting spot than he is in her surprising ability to soothe his demons. So he strikes a bargain with her: his shop in exchange for spending one night a week with him.
This is the third book in the series & is easily read on its own. I really liked Sophie but didn't warm to Reese at first but gradually as his history came to light the more I liked him. I loved how he changed from grumpy & dour to a lovely, loyal & caring man. The road to their HEA wasn’t easy but it was very enjoyable & I was routing for them to be together. A well written engrossing read
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

I was so engrossed in this book that I easily lost track of time while reading it and could not put it down until I was finished. This is the third and final book in the series about two sisters, their best friend and their attack on Victorian society's rules of behavior for women. It is also about finding one's true love, following one's heart and not bending to the will of others. Sophie is the last of the trio to find her true love which she despairs of ever happening and has resigned herself to marrying a wealthy man to save her family from ruin. Sophie is the leader of a secret group of women called the Debutante Underground. Her group holds secret meetings where women from all walks of life can come and share their stories and feelings about the relationships between men and women. Their discussions are usually based around the weekly news article called "The Debutante's Revenge." As the group has started to outgrow its meeting space, Sophie is told about an empty building a few doors on down the way. She decides to take a look and as she is trying to peek in she discovers that the door is unlatched and she enters to take a quick look. She is then discovered by the owner whom she soon notices to be unwell and she can't help but want to help him if she can.
Reese, the new Earl of Warshire is haunted by bad dreams and is unable to sleep for any length of time and has gone for several days without sleeping at all and roams his empty warehouse so as not to disturb anyone. Upon learning this, Sophie offers to make him some valerian tea which has helped her mother with her insomnia. While Reese drinks the tea, Sophie approaches him about using his warehouse, but Reese is not inclined to let her until a few days later after he reflects on his one night of decent sleep.
Reece and Sophie strike a bargain; she will have use of his warehouse for four hours on Friday nights if she will help him to get a good nights rest. Sophie is not convinced that it is because of her that Reese finally slept, but Reese believes in nothing else. It soon becomes apparent that the more time they spend together the more their feelings for each other grow. Unfortunately, things at home have become very dire and Sophie must move up her betrothal or so she thinks. Read the book to see if Sophie and Reese can find their HEA and also learn what happens when the Debutante Underground is threatened. I loved the depth of emotion felt by both Sophie and Reese; not only for each other, but for the other people in their lives.
Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley I was able to read an advanced copy of this book. This is my freely given review and all thoughts expressed above are strictly me own.

A suspension of disbelief is a must for this cute and soft romance. It definitely delivers some swoon-worthy moments and I love a grumpy hero and a sunshine-y heroine. It didn't reinvent the Regency or anything but I did enjoy losing myself in the story for a little while. I hadn't read the other books in this series, but I had no trouble picking up on anything; When You Wish Upon a Rogue works perfectly well as a stand-alone title.

This is a cute historical romance with a lot of inconsistencies. On the one hand Sophie Kendall is encouraging women to think for themselves and ask for what they want in a time where women are definitely not treated as equals but on the other hand she seems to be able to stay out without impunity and traverses the dangerous streets of the city late at night alone without a companion.
Reese has unexpectedly inherited an impoverished title and is struggling with strong feelings of guilt. Despite his title he has no time for society but seeks out Sophie to request her help after she unexpectedly comes into contact with him one night. They engage in a relationship where she begins to spend one night a week in his home with him and gradually the hands off relationship becomes more and more hands on.
Sophie is on the brink of announcing an engagement with a rich peer who's going to rescue her parents. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop particularly with the one maid in Sophie's women's group who is pregnant with her noble employers child. The author got the drop on me on this one because the father is quite unexpected.
This is a slow moving romance with some interesting elements but overall leaves a lot to be desired in my book.

Sophie is an independent heroine, thinking outside the box, and who has a secret from all but her closest friends. While I enjoyed pretty much everything about her, there seemed to be something missing in her character. Not sure what it was, perhaps the lack of fire? However, I did enjoy her times with the hero, despite it being completely implausible.
Reese is a damaged hero who has pretty much turned his back on having any kind of life for himself. I love a hero who is struggling due to his past and Reese was definitely in a struggle. The fact that Sophie seemed to calm the battle that waged within him endeared him to me. However, he was not overtly possessive which would have had me loving him.
This is a relatively fast read, although I did find myself skimming parts of it that felt repetitive. The steam was pretty extreme but I felt the chemistry leading up to the smexy times were often lacking. Sophie’s friends added a bit of spark to the story but otherwise, this seemed a bit bland and I kept waiting for it to really kick up a notch. It was a pleasant enough read that I might have been able to enjoy more had I not been struggling in my own life during the time I read it.

Sophie is calm, dutiful, shy, unfailingly polite. She wants to make everyone happy, while also never expecting that anyone should try to make her happy. At the same time, she has this thick ribbon of quiet stubbornness to her. She doesn’t argue, she just does. Quietly.
Reese, the accidental and reluctant Earl of Warshire. He’s a former military officer, who suffers from insomnia, and is a generally gruff and cranky kind of dude.
Here is one point I really have to give Anna Bennett credit for. One of the best, simplest meet-cutes ever. Have you ever met someone and just felt comfortable? Not starry-eyed with lust or whatever, but just like you could sit with this person and feel you can breathe easily? That’s what Sophie and Reese’s first meeting felt like. No insane circumstances – no fishing anyone out of an accidental fall into a pond, no stampeding cattle. Just … peaceful connection. And over their interactions, that connection is allowed to blossom. Anna Bennett didn’t just tell us it happened, she actually showed it in the story.
Also, the author managed to make Sophie’s unwanted intended, Lord Singleton, slightly creepy without turning him into a one dimensional villain. It was refreshing to have a collection of pretty normal people with normal faults.

I received an advanced reader’s copy of When You Wish Upon a Rogue by Anna Bennett.
I loved this story. Both Reese and Sophie were such great characters. The romance, both the emotional and physical aspects, grew out of the small special moments they shared together. Reese is able to find peace through his relationship with Sophie; Sophie finds love with Reese.
Reese is swoon worthy as the hero. He really understands Sophie and his romantic gestures are sweet and memorable. He’s also loyal and is willing to do anything for Sophie.
Sophie is caring and does what she can to help others and is willing to sacrifice herself to save her family.
Although, they face obstacles to being together, they’re not afraid to reveal their feelings for each other. It’s that communication where they open up as they get to know each other that is wonderful about this story.

When You Wish Upon a Rogue is the third book in the Debutante Diaries. The series is based on three ladies who wanted to capture their experiences of their Season by keeping journals. They eventually decided to start The Debutante’s Revenge, an anonymous column in a London newspaper. Then they formed the Debutante Underground, a group for women to have a place to discuss sensitive topics written in the column. This book could be read as a stand-alone, but I really enjoyed every book in the series.
Sophie Kendal dedicated her time organizing the weekly Debutante Underground meetings. Her two friends had found love and were already married, and Sophie dreamed of finding a husband who loved her. To save her family’s finances, she is being pressured by her family to marry Lord Singleton. The burden fell on Sophie since her older sister Mary was frail. Sophie wanted to enjoy the rest of the Season and was trying to wait for his proposal and an official announcement. She was busy with the Debutante Underground, which was growing in members and she needed to find a larger meeting place. After one of their weekly meetings, one of the members suggested the vacant tailor’s shop down the road. Sophie was so excited about the idea that she goes to the shop after the meeting to look around and she encounters Reese.
Henry Reese “Reese”, Earl of Warshire, was a grouchy, miserable man with extreme insomnia, sometimes going days without sleep. He had returned from the war to take up the title when his older brother who he idolized died. The estate was in bad shape, but he was slowly making improvements. He was consumed with memories of the war and guilt from leaving his fellow soldiers behind. To escape the memories, he finds peace at an empty tailor’s shop in one of his empty buildings. One night he was surprised when Sophie barges in, but oddly enough she was able to calm his soul and put him to sleep with some herbal tea and her presence. He tried to recreate the same scene and drink the tea but was not successful. In desperation, he follows Sophie to a ball to ask for her help. He convinces her to come and help him to sleep and in return allows her to use the tailor’s shop for her meetings. As they continue meeting their feelings grow for each other, but Sophie’s family situation has become dire. Can they find a solution so they can be together?
This was such an amazing book! It was an attention-grabbing book that I just couldn’t put down. The characters were so charming, and I loved seeing the friendship and love grow between Sophie and Reese. Also, it was great having Fiona and Lily from the previous books appear. The ending was certainly a surprise that I could not see coming but I was so glad everything worked out. The series was great fun and I am sad to see the end of it but I can’t wait to see what the author comes up with next.

3.5 Stars
This is the perfect way to show women of these times not just sitting by and not having a voice...and wishing it to be heard. It has a two people who have what each need and the love story that comes from it.

This is my fair and honest review, voluntarily give and in my own words, for this ARC. When so much and so many depend upon you, how can you fulfil who and what you are without destroying all those around you? An Earl who does not feel he should be and a debutante who really doesn't want to be. Secrets held and past mistakes that effect more than themselves. Well written tale with lots of intertwining characters.

A huge thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me an ARC of this wonderful story.
This regency romp has all of the elements of a perfect slow-burn romance. There is a strong, vulnerable hero who hides in the shadows. There is a determined, independent heroine who must resign herself to an unwanted match to salvage the family finances.
But Sophie isn't quite ready to be sacrificed. When she meets Reese and her presence cures his insomnia, they enter into an agreement that is his salvation and her ruin. She sets rules for all their interactions. Especially no touching rules. They bare their innermost thoughts and fears to each other, and the no touching rule becomes harder and harder to bear.
Sophie doesn't want to settle for anything less than the sense of belonging and rightness she has with Reese. Reese wants nothing more than to share starry nights, moonlit garden strolls and picnics with Sophie. She is the one person grounding his reality and giving him the courage to move onward with his life.
Anna Bennett's characters are always the perfect combination of complexity and vulnerability. This unforgettable couple will make your stomach and heart flutter.

I nearly stopped reading this book halfway through. I found it very slow-moving and there were hardly any secondary characters until halfway through the book. I also found the premise of an unmarried young society woman spending nights alone with an earl without much hesitation a bit far-fetched or that it would at least be more of a consideration for Sarah than it was in this book. They were off in their own little world. Reece was also almost too sensitive for my liking but other people might like that. I felt the second half of the book was better as things were finally happening and reality was finally intruding into the world that Sarah and Reece had created for themselves. Secondary characters were finally taking a bigger role in the story. However, I found that the secondary characters weren’t well-developed so some things they did towards the end seemed like they were out of blue or their decisions were reversed too easily.

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. When You Wish Upon A Rogue is the third book in Anna Bennett’s series The Debutante Diaries. This book could be read as a stand-alone as the author does an excellent job of filling in the background details, but I think you would enjoy it even more if you’ve read the first two books. Sophie Kendall’s parents have arranged a marriage for her to save the family from financial ruin. She’s accepted that this is her fate until a chance encounter with Henry Reese, Earl of Warshire, leads to a friendship and then something more. Henry Reese was never meant to be the Earl, the accidental death of the older brother he’d worshipped has left him with a tangled mess of an inheritance, uncertain finances and the deaths of his fellow soldiers shortly after his departure from the front has him afraid to fall asleep because of the nightmares that haunt his dreams. Spending time with Sophie is the only thing that gives him peace, but he can’t solve her family's financial problems, and all looks bleak for them. I enjoyed reading their story very much and do recommend this book and the first two books in the series. They feature strong heroines and heroes who appreciate their strengths. Medium Steam. Publishing Date May 26, 2020. #WhenYouWishUponARogue #AnnaBennett #NetGalley #HistoricalRomance #StMartinsPress #bookstagram

When you wish Upon a rogue was inspiring, refreshing and most of all, beautifully twisted love story.
Sophie should be betrothed to a man she haven't love. She was free spirited and together with her friends she was an author of a column Debutante's Revenge. She also held meetings of Debutante Underground on Friday nights for women to exchange their experiences and read the column.
When she met Reese, Earl of Warshire, after one of her gatherings, he was in a pure state, fighting his demons and suffering from insomnia. She made him a Valerian root tea and he could sleep for a few hours.
He got desperate, after he tried her herbal mix by himself and it wouldn't help. In his eyes it wasn't the tea which calmed his mind, it was Sophie. They striked a deal. She will accompany him few nights so he could fall asleep and she will get a bigger space in by him own building for her Debutante Underground meetings.
Although she set rules like no touching under no circumstances, they could not escape the attraction and feelings they felt for one another. If the situation was another one, maybe they could one day be together....
Her betrothal neared undeniably fast and all that was left was hole in their hearts and sadness.... there was no outcome for them...or was there?
I can only recommend this amazing story, read it and find out what happens for yourself. It's twisted and it will get you all hot and bothered and also sadness will flow through your mind. I was aching for them, I laughed with them and I felt happiness for them....

Miss Sophie Kendall chairs the Debutante Underground. At the meetings, they discuss courting, desire, intimacy, and love. There are four rules that all who attend their meetings must agree to. They also have a newspaper column called Debutante's Revenge. Her father is an alcoholic and has put them in debt. So he has agreed to give Sophie to Lord Stanton as his bride. She does not love him but feels it is her duty to keep her father out of prison. Her mother keeps making excuses for him while her sister hides and reads in her room and leaves it all to Sophie to take care of.
Henry Reese, Earl of Warshire, has just returned from war. He had not planned to come back anytime soon but his brother was killed in an accident and he had to take over the title. He is haunted nightly by having to leave his fellow soldiers behind and some were killed. He also adored his brother but he had feet of clay. a lot of twists but story is excellent. The characters are engrossing and there is a strong plot. All this is used to keep your attention and your interest. I highly recommend this book to you and hope you like it as much as I did.
I received this ARC from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it.

Enjoyable story that leaves you wanting some more. Sophie and Reese characters won my heart over. This story is fun and sweet.
Thanks St Martins Press & NetGalley for the ARC.
