this was another great entry in the series, the characters were great and I really enjoyed reading this.

This was a good sequel to the first book, The Cracked Slipper. Eleanor falls more and more in love with Dorian, while her husband, Prince Gregory, starts a new affair with her evil stepsister Sylvia. While visiting a very poor section of the kingdom, Eleanor decides to try and make a difference for the young girls, whose only options in life are servant work or prostitution. She starts a school for girls to try and give them a better life. But when the girls start to disappear, and are found either murdered or sold to prostitution, the town turns against Eleanor. And when an evil magician reappears, Eleanor's life is once again in danger.
I didn't like this book as well as the first one, but I like the way Eleanor is becoming more mature and able to stand up for herself. It was hard to read about their burning pandemic when we're surviving our own pandemic in real life. Maybe an evil magician created Covid19 as well!
I received a complimentary copy of this book through Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

The Dragon Choker is the second chapter in the Cinderella story: after the finding of the slipper, after marriage to the handsome prince (and the birth of a little princess). But this Cinderella (named Eleanor) isn't happy in her marriage to philandering Prince Gregory, and is deeply in love with his best friend Dorian. It's a situation ripe for disaster, and this is only the tip of the iceberg.
While Stephanie Alexander does a good job of providing background for those who haven't read the first book (The Cracked Slipper), this book would be more enjoyable if you've read the first book (which I hadn't). The Dragon Choker is an interesting reimagining of the Cinderella story after all the romance is gone, but it's not as engaging or original as books by other authors who have also taken on a redo of the Cinderella tale.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
This is the second book in the Cracked Slipper series (retelling of cinderella) and I wasntdisappointed at all. This was a fantastic sequel to The Cracked Slipper and tied up many loose ends. My heart breaks for Eleanor so much in this book so many times. I'm so excited that the third installment is coming out soon too! As I cant wait to find out whats in store in book three.
This is one of the best retelling series I've read.

I did not think it could be possible, but the second book was worse than the first book. The characters became immature, weak, and reminded me of petulant children instead of adults.
I ended up skipping to the last two chapters of the story after reading the first five chapters. This book became a waste of my time, which was disappointing, especially since the author spent ten years on it, but none of the conflicts were being resolved. It felt exactly like the first one regurgitated into a new story.
Maybe I ended up having higher expectations than I should have, but I am done.
I have a feeling the two things I wanted are never going to happen, and my one reason for reading the book: rooting for Dorian and Eleanor is gone, I see no point in continuing.
