I requested and received an e-ARC of this book from NetGalley and Parallax Press in exchange for an honest review.

I thought this was a really sweet book about feelings. I love the comparison Mop’s mom makes about waves and feelings and how sometimes you are going to get waves you don’t like, and you just wait them out and ride the next one. This kind of comparison really helps kids understand their emotions and how to deal with them.

I also love Mop’s hair it is awesome!

This was a great story about identity, resilience, and perspective. Mop is a kid that has trouble controlling his negative emotions, but by visualizing his emotions like waves, he's better able to ride them out calmly. A wonderful lesson in mindfulness! Despite it being a picture book, I'd suggest ages 5-10 would be a great fit for this one!

Thank you to NetGalley and Parallax Press for the advance copy of Mop Rides the Waves of Life: A Story of Mindfulness and Surfing by Jaimal Yogis in exchange for an honest review.

This is a great globing that makes emotions easy for kids to relate to. I love that Mop is different from other kids in books and he struggles to embrace that but learns to in the end. Great book for my classroom!

I absolutely adored this title! I reside in a beach town, so this was right up my kid's alley in a lot of ways. Mop learns how to take the practices of surfing and apply them to the ups and downs of every day life. It is completely normal and okay to have negative feelings, and children especially struggle with how to cope with them. After Mop has a series of bad days, his mom helps me readjust his way of thinking to let the bad emotions pass him by. I really loved the morale of this story, I found the illustrations to be bright and whimsical, and the writing to be perfect for my five year olds to be able to read and follow. Highly recommended!
