The Fit Foodie Meal Prep Plan by Sally O'Neil is a simple guide for everyone that either already does, or wants to start down the journey of learning, healthy meal prepping. It provides simple and clear instructions as well as lots of ideas for substitutions and modifications using things commonly found in your kitchen and/ or pantry, or that can be scooped up quickly, easily, and cost effectively at your local grocery store. Meal prep and planning encompasses preparing multiple ingredients for multiple dishes all at the same time thus making time management and wallet management obtainable. By providing a host of skeleton recipes and then showing you so many different ways to add or subtract things makes you a master of creation in your kitchen with minimal week fuss (unfortunately there is no hard answer for those pesky dishes ... they just seem to always stick around!) I was also thankful, and impressed with the amount of vegetarian recipes that are included, as those tend to get pared down in most meal prep and cookbooks. For those who are visually stimulated or visual learners, there are also photographs that accompany some of these ideas. The recipes are fairly easy to make lending this prep book to just about anyone anywhere and have a focus on healthy ingredients making this truly a fit foodies dream planner.

Thank you to Tiller Press, Sally O’Neil and NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinions.

Refreshing take on meal prep with bold flavor combinations. I like that the recipes are listed and then she had her own recommendations of how to fit them together in different ways at the end. Variety in meal prep keeps things from getting boring and this book will open up options for those who love to try new things!

I really struggle with meal planning. I have a family of 6 and it’s hard to find the time. This book has simple to follow instructions and there’s guilt free short cuts for it all. My favorite part of the book was the combo section. The author gives you base recipes and then shows you how you can make different combinations with all of them. Even healthy cookie dough! Simple recipes with easy swap out suggestions and easy store picks.

The Fit Foodie Meal Prep Plan by Sally O'Neil is a wonderful, all-in-one guide to healthy meal prepping. It lays out instructions for planning your meals for the week with TONS of options for every meal or craving you might have. In this book meal prep relies on preparing multiple ingredients and putting together different elements together to make your meals, which will save time and money. There are a ton of vegetarian recipes, which I love. Beautiful, full-color photographs accompany most of the recipes. The recipes are fairly easy to make and use healthy, whole ingredients. An excellent cookbook!

Very simple and casual guide, for those without a lot of time. I like the advice to prep veggies as soon as you get home from the store, and treat your fridge as if it’s a salad bar. One-page charts for easy at a glance instructions for prepping smoothie bags, dressings, etc.

The Fit Foodie Meal Prep Plan by Sally O’Neil would be a nice starter book for someone that is new to meal planning or healthy meals. I appreciated that there were pictures for all the recipes and that most are fairly simple to prepare. I don’t think it offers much to those that are familiar with meal planning and cooking. The recipes are pretty simple and, in my opinion, not that exciting. It’s a nice start, but I felt like it could have a lot more ideas and recipes.

Thank you to NetGalley and Tiller Press for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.

The Fit Foodie Meal Prep Plan is a tutorial and recipe guide for meal-prep with recipes developed by Sally O'Neil. Released 14th Jan 2020 by Simon & Schuster on their Tiller Press imprint, it's 208 pages and is available in paperback and ebook formats.

There have been a lot of times when I've come home from work and literally had no plan for dinner and a not-inspiring collection of ingredients and no idea what to cook for my family (we usually wind up with takeout food in those cases). I've been familiar for ages with the concept of meal planning and prep, but it always seemed to take a lot more organizational skills than I honestly have. I'm sort of an extreme case of course, but I wanted to read this book and see if I could get some tips I could use to be more food prep organized.

This book is certainly organized. The first section covers the introduction, definitions and concepts involved in meal prep, along with very basic explanations (colorful pie graphs!) for how to build up a nutritionally sound meal (fresh base + protein + complex carbs + healthy fats). There are also lists of staples with quantities to have on hand for maximum efficiency and how to prep and use them.

My main interest personally in food prep is to take care of my 5 day work-week lunchtimes. I work in a hospital lab and it's just so convenient to eat at the cafeteria which is generally full of high fat, calorie dense, carbohydrate laden food with almost zero plant based options (and let's face it...hospital cafeteria food is hella bland and ridiculously expensive). This book contains 75+ meal prep menus with mix and match options which are -perfect- for my lunch-box problem. There's also a good cross referenced index with ingredients included.

The recipes are well illustrated and appealing. This is a huge bonus for me. Ingredient measurements are supplied in American and standard (metric) measurements. The nutritional information is not included in these recipes. Extra tips or recipe alternatives are listed in sidebars with the recipes. The recipes themselves are fairly straightforward and are made with easily sourced ingredients. Many are very simple, none of them are overly complex.

This is a beautifully presented very well organized book. I would definitely recommend it to any of my friends who are looking to make their food prep even more efficient. Once a week cooking can be made family friendly, and the author has included mix-and-match recipes so that these meals can be incorporated into a family style meal environment. These would also work very well for singles or for one person (or whole family); it's very very versatile.

Five stars. I also love the author's irreverent, chatty, friendly voice which comes through very clearly in the text.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
