I wish to thank NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for the early opportunity to read The Cabin on Souder Hill in return for an honest review. I regret to say that I struggled with the book. I believe that many readers may enjoy it and should not be deterred by my misgivings.

At first, I believed I was reading your typical psychological/domestic mystery which centred on the troubled marriage of Michelle and Cliff. Was Michelle undergoing a psychotic episode or neurological damage from a forgotten injury? Could she be the victim of a conspiracy to make her doubt past memories and present reality? Was she an unreliable narrator? Then came suggestions and hints of the supernatural, witchcraft, time travel and alternate realities. Next Pink and his unsavoury family are introduced with Pink’s very different reputation past and future. He seems to be the key to solve the mystery.

I felt the book went off in so many directions with themes I enjoy separately. I was feeling bewilderment rather than suspense. It was a book I can't easily fit into any category.
That being said, it is just my personal opinion. I feel that others may be enthralled by this puzzling tale.

I am a huge horror/thriller fan and I really was excited to pick this book up based on the premise. I did enjoy this book, and found the atmosphere to be super creepy and I was on edge a lot during this book. I liked the twist and I thought the main character was well written, there were just a few pace issues but all in all great read!

This novel was all kinds of creepy, weird, and the most bizarre I've read this year. Now, is that necessarily a good thing. Yes, it kind of... well, mostly is. I didn't always know exactly what to think of this book, as there was so much that was intriguing about it, but also head-scratching. That had to do a lot with the the middle of the novel, much of it pertaining to Pink. Which, by the way is what this book is mostly about, but again, a mixture of feels.

Why is that? Because, there was a great story there, but a lot of paragraphs I just couldn't care as much for. Even so, the good with him, was really great. It's the unbelievable parts, the other-worldly moments, the creepy story of Pink's beginnings, that really gets me to forget some of the other unsavory pages. It's the mother figure in here, and the friend that helped set it all in motion, you're not going to want to miss out on.

But, when I say it was all kinds of weird and bizarre, I really mean it was all of that plus tons more. Go into this knowing that Michelle is more of an after thought. Still, pretty relevant to the story, especially since she has a brighter reality to get back to. Without her, the ending wouldn't work at all. Again though, the center of this is Pink's story, and what his family tree really looks like. That's what had me even more captivated and confounded all at once.

If you're looking for a story to take you away from this world, into one that is full of witchy, supernatural, and creepy cabins that lead you to alternate universes, then this is the book you want to be reading. But, just remember, it's not always the easiest to imagine, because of Pink's family history and the continued nature of it in this novel. Even so, that continues to be what made this story more compelling to read.

Just know, aside from that, there are some words or phrases used that shouldn't have been in here. I didn't care much for it, but it's not in a majority of this book, still not needed whatsoever. It didn't keep me from enjoying the parts that were enthralling all the way to the end. Believe me when I say, that cabin, the spooky lights in the distance, the path to darkness that awaits another beginning, that will all be staying in my mind for quite a long time. So worth the craziness!

Cliff and Michelle go to their cabin deep in the woods to try and work on their marriage. Cliff goes to investigate a strange light late at night and doesn't return. When local police enforcement come up empty, Michelle decides to try and follow his path. She comes across a cabin just like theirs and Cliff is inside, but that is where any similarity to her former life ends. Michelle seeks help from someone that has supposedly disappeared in her other existence. Can she make anyone believe her, and will she ever get back to her real life?

I liked the pace and plot of this story for the first two thirds of the book. I found the idea of different universes or realities interesting. However, the book's original description made it sound more suspenseful or scary than it really was. I was originally intrigued with the references to Wicca but, for me, it got to be too much. I also felt Michelle's character changed near the end of the story: after having so much difficulty getting people to believe her, she doesn't extend the same courtesy to others when they really need it, and she also goes back on an important promise. This was a hard book for me to rate; while there was a lot of things I liked about it, the things that bothered me took it from a great read to an average read. #NetGalley #TheCabinOnSouderHill

It was supposed to be a last ditch effort to save their failing marriage. Cliff and Michelle bought an old cabin in the North Carolina mountains, intending to work on their relationship, but after going outside one night to try to identify a mysterious light in the woods, Cliff never comes home. Michelle takes off after the same light and finds another cabin, just like the one she left behind, and another husband. In this alternate universe, Cliff is kind and caring, but their daughter, Cassie is dead. Michelle is on a desperate search to find her way back to “her” world, the one where is daughter is alive and well . The idea of a multi-verse is one of the more fascinating topics taken up in fiction and non-fiction lately, and this mind bending story will keep you riveted
