Another wonderfully page-turning, compelling thriller from Karin Slaughter! Great characters and premise. Loved it!

Someone is killing women in Georgia in a particularly brutal fashion. He kidnaps them, drugs them and takes them to the woods where he rapes them. Then as the oral drug becomes less effective, he uses a weapon to stab the spinal cord, paralyzing them so he can continue to visit them and rape them before he makes his final visit where he beats and murders them.
The case falls to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation which means Will Trent and his partner Faith. Sara Linton, Will's love, is involved as well as she is the pathologist for the GBI. She is involved in a different way as well. The cases started in Grant County where Sara grew up. The first three cases were not recognized as the work of a serial killer and a local drug dealer and pedophile was convicted of the cases under the direction of Sara's first husband, Jeffrey, who was the chief of police there. Now it appears he got that all wrong and the inmate has been serving time for crimes he didn't commit.

But the cases went on after the inmate was sent to prison although they weren't recognized as such. The cases after the Grant County ones were spread out over different counties and usually written off as accidents from hiking or camping. By now there are almost twenty cases and another woman is missing. Can the team find the killer before he strikes again?

This is the tenth novel in the Will Trent/Sara Linton series. As usual, there is tension between Sara and Will as he can't believe that Sara actually loves him, especially since she loved Jeffrey so much. The characters from other books in the series such as Amanda the GBI boss and Sara's family are continued in this book and the case is as twisty and depraved as many others the team has solved. This book is recommended for mystery readers.

The Silent Wife By Karin Slaughter is another great thriller with Will Trent as our main character. Karin Slaughter captivates the audience and you just don't want to put the book down until the last page!

Readers are treated in this Will Trent book with the opportunity to revisit Jeffrey after an old case of his reappears in Sara and Will’s world. ARC from NetGalley.

I love Karin Slaughter. I love her books, I love her as a person, and I love her love for the library as a librarian. I was so excited to get The Silent Wife. When I saw a video with her dancing and saying that Jeffrey was coming back for the book, I could have cried with joy. This is a spoiler, but I am amongst friends, when he died, I cried and cried. I was absolutely shocked, even when the ending was accidentally spoiled for me when I was ordering that book.

In The Silent Wife, we see Will Trent investigate an inmate’s claim from a penitentiary that he was framed and did not commit the crime he was convicted for. It just so happens the individual he states is responsible is none other than Jeffrey Tolliver. The book alternates between present day with Will and Sara Linton and a younger Sara with her, at the time, ex-husband Jeffrey.

The inmate was charged with the extremely brutal murders of several women, but with him in prison, he says the real murderer has been on the loose killing women all over Georgia. Now, present day, there are a string of murders resembling those of the past, and it is up to Will, Faith, Amanda, and Sara to find the killer and restore Jeffrey’s reputation. Oh, and Lena makes a return as well, but I can do without her. I think we all can.

Thank you so much to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

If Karin Slaughter wrote the back of shampoo bottles, then I would drop everything to read them. I can't say enough how much I've loved the intertwining of mystery, thriller, and (surprisingly) romance that has moved along the Will Trent story all these years. She did it once again & I will be first in line for the next installment.

WOW! just WOW! I loved this book. I could not put it down. I don't remember reading Karen Slaughter books before, although I had heard her name. Now I want to read everything!

After a prison riot, one of the prisoners again tries to get a release by claiming he has new information about his case (he's innocent, of course) that indicates the existence of a serial killer. Since the disappearances, rapes, and murders have continued despite the fact that he is in prison, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and local police decide to take another look. Plus there's a hint at police corruption that may involve Sara's ex, Jeffrey. (These are characters from Slaughter's other books). The action is swift and thoroughly engrossing. Warning -- the details are graphic and brutal and sometimes very hard to read, but the brutality is critical for the storyline. The characters, especially Sara and Will, are people I grew to care about. There's a bit of a romance here and it adds to the depth of emotion in the story. This is a well crafted mystery. There are multiple suspects, lots of twists and turns, and once the murderer is revealed, my heart was in my throat wondering what would happen next. READ THIS BOOK!

My Highly Caffeinated Thought: A dark, chilling, and gripping suspense which brings to the present a past that some of our favorite characters are trying to move on from.

This novel marks the tenth book in the Will Trent series! I cannot believe that I have been embarking on investigations with this cast of characters for ten books. Oh…what a ride it has been. In her latest, Slaughter instantly reminds us why she is so damn good. She shows the underbelly of society while still managing to give her readers the goodness we all possess.

THE SILENT WIFE mixes the past and the present in an investigation of a rapist and serial killer from years ago. If the criminal is telling the truth, the person who did these horrible crimes could still be out there and committing more. The twist is that the case was closed by medical examiner Sarah Linton’s deceased husband Jeffrey Tolliver. Needless to say, there is a whole lot of messy emotional things happening while the team is looking to see if the man convicted did commit the crimes.

As per usual, there is a lot of procedure within the GBI. By grounding the novel in the nitty-gritty of the investigation, it allows the tension to build as some of the twists and turns are thrown at our characters. Then, when you add in all the interpersonal relationships and interactions, it makes the story just that much better.

Honestly, I can see myself reading about Will Trent and the GBI crew for years to come and I truly hope that will be the case. I always get the perfect mix of darkness, suspense, bits of humor, and moments of compassion. No matter what, I am never disappointed.

Fun thriller, a great addition to the Will Trent series. Does a great job of bringing flashbacks and current day storytelling together.

This book is another winner for Karin Slaughter. Another book in the Will Trent and Sara Linton series. The book starts with a prison riot that is investigated by Will's team. While interviewing the suspects after the riot, Will's team speaks to an inmate who claims he has been falsely imprisoned. This leads to the re-opening of several rape/murder cases that happened many years ago. Lots of twists in this page turner.

I love the Will Trent series by Karin Slaughter and this novel was a great addition. This was my favorite novel to date. I never fail to recommend this series to other fellow readers.

A riot in the state penitentiary is the last place that GBI investigator Will Trent expects to be confronted with information regarding the former chief of police. Insisting he was framed by the now deceased Jeffrey Tolliver, who was the husband of Trent's girlfriend, medical examiner Sara Linton, an inmate claims that he is innocent of a brutal attack for which he has always been the prime suspect. Can Will solve the cold case without dragging up the past?

I was excited to read the latest in the Will Trent books, as I have read all of the previous novels regarding Sara Linton and Will Trent. Unfortunately, The Silent Wife is a missed opportunity by the author to develop the characters further and to advance the story arc. The author underscores, once again, that Will is damaged goods and does not really move his character to a new level. I honestly have grown tired of the same old personal story and wish that the author would stick solely to the crime or investigation at hand. Readers new to the character should go back to the beginning, as The Silent Wife is the tenth book in the series.

Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Reader's Copy of The Silent Wife via NetGalley and the publisher, William Morrow. The choice to review this book was my own.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC. This book was a little too dark and unsettling for me. I really enjoyed the writing and the story, but I was having some nightmares! I am sure that mystery lovers LOVE this book. Slaughter is a fantastic storyteller!

I honestly could not get into this book. I love Karin Slaughter, but for some reason this did not draw me in like a lot of her other works have.

The past is brought to the present for Will Trent, Faith Evans, and the GBI are called in after a riot a the state pen. An inmate is claiming that he was framed by the late Jeffrey Linton. When Will and Faith start digging into the crimes that were attributed to the inmate. With the help of Sara Linton, they start to recognize that there are similarities between recent events and what happened to put him in prison. But he has been in prison, so is there a copycat killer stalking, raping, and killing women? Or did they have the wrong person all along?

I think that Will Trent is my favorite fictional detective. As I was listening to the audiobook of The Silent Wife, I wondered why his character hasn't been optioned for a television series. The Silent Wife is unique because the timeline jumps around. The past, when Jeffrey Linton was investigating the original crimes, and present-day when Will, Faith, and Sara are trying to determine if the new crimes are connected. It was great to get to "see" Jeffrey Linton again and watch the way he engaged with Sara, it explains a lot about how she engages with Will in the present-day. I will say that The Silent Wife is a story about crimes against women. Graphic and horrific crimes that may be difficult for some to read. I will say that the story ends on a high note with a surprise that will just delight longtime Will Trent fans! CLICK HERE FOR SPOILERS -

Bottom Line - Karin Slaughter has spent years developing Will Trent, Faith Evans, and Sara Linton. I look forward to every new book that allows us a chance to spend more time with them. The Silent Wife is just evidence at how much the characters have grown. And I patiently wait to see what happens next.

This story should be a straight up story about a prisoner who fells he is wrongly incarcerated. The officer investigating the crimes has a close tie to the inmate. The past and present days help to both confuse and unravel some of the mystery. The reader must pay close attention to follow the story. The story was complex but an enjoyable read>

Karin Slaughter always brings it in her novels. They are not for the faint of heart. My biggest issue with this one, and several others I have read, is the pacing. The beginnings and endings are great, and the middle tends to fall a bit flat. Overall, I still really enjoyed this and think fans of hers will be pleased.
