Dot has started up a pet-sitting business and volunteers to take care of a friend's cat for the weekend. As her friends hear about this, they all start bringing their pets to Dot and she is sure that with the help of her friend Hal and the use of her handy, dandy Pet App, she is up to the job. Well, with a dog, cat, goldfish, bird and tarantula, things get out of control. First, we thought the pet app was more of a problem than a help. Dot kept switching her focus, which was why the animals got out of their cages or the house. Luckily for Dot, she is not afraid to ask for help and her parents quickly help her and Hal get things under control.

My granddaughter thought all the animals getting loose and causing problems was pretty funny, but we talked about this being unsafe for them and she didn't want them to get hurt. This is an early chapter book, which the five year old loved listening to, and the 7 year old enjoyed reading to us. The illustrations are wonderful. They're large, vibrant and full of action and emotion. They add much to the story and aid in decoding the text. This is a humorous story about animals and the responsibilities that come with having and taking care of a pet. It also shows how you can take on too many tasks, jobs, responsibilities etc. and not be able to do any of them justice. Dot was lucky to have understanding parents to help her restore order. This was a cute story and one that would be wonderful in a kindergarten or primary classroom.

Illustrations in this transitional reader tell the story of the chaos that occurs when Dot tries to take care of a menagerie of pets.

Apparently Dot is a TV show based off another book. This is a beginning chapter book, easier than Magic Tree House, but harder than a leveled reader. Dot has a tablet where she keeps important things, like reminders on what needs to be done to take care of everyone’s pets. But taking care of 5 pets is heavy work and hijinks ensue. I can see kids liking this series. The story was not bad, flowed well, and was entertaining.

Review to come August 24th to blog/goodreads.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

Meet Dot, a tiny girl with big ideas. In this book she decides to start a pet-sitting service.. or well, she is kind of pushed into it. I just love pets and while I haven't started a pet-sitting service myself when I was a kid (due to allergies) I do love the idea and wish I could have done the same as Dot. Though maybe not have let chaos reign when things go wrong! :P

I loved that Dot has an app that allows her to input what an animal needs. That does make things a bit easier than writing it all down (and then losing the paper). I had a bit of a laugh when Dot found out that the cat had a litterbox, um girl, how else did you think that the cat would do his/her stuff? It is not a dog. I loved that the app not only was a list of what to do, but it also send out reminders of when to feed, to clean, etc.. OK, the cleaning part does kind of depend on how dirty the litterbox stuff is. I know with my hammies it can range from every 2 days, to 3 days, to 5 days. It all depends on how much they decided to make a mess. Just check it every day to make sure.
I wasn't such a fan how much she relied on the app. That it would be easier no matter how many pets she would have because the app would remind her. Yes, it may be easier, but every animal needs caring. Cats and dogs and birds the most. It is not as simple as following an app. Not to mention that dogs x cats or cats x birds x fish may not go together.

And then we get to the point that chaos was about to happen, and it all starts other people hearing about Dot doing pet-sitting. Oh my. I do wonder why Dot didn't first talk it over with an adult. Or where the adults were for that matter. I am not sure how it is with Dot's family, but it seems people can just walk in like that. That definitely wasn't the case for me when I was a kid.

I am glad that Dot learned a lesson at the end. That makes me happy.

All in all, I am a bit mixed up on this story. While it was a cute one and I loved the pets and Dot's good intentions, the illustrations were very nicely done, but I do wonder where the adults where, why those two other kids didn't just put their pets downstairs (I mean if you just have to do that you don't need a petsitter), and why Dot thought it would all go well. I was just at times shaking my head at things that happened in this book.

Oh no! Dot chewed more than she could chew. Taking care of animals can be fun but when it's gets out of control, chaos ensues. Dot's friend Ruby has brought over her cat Meryl to Dot's home to watch her while she and her mother run errands. Dot has an app to take care of Meryl. When to feed her, water, and clean up after. This is easy and fun so when another friend brings another pet, Dot takes it on.

A funny tale on animals and the responsibilities it takes to take care of them. What can happen and how it can get out of control real fast. With understanding parents, friends, and pets, Dot learns a valuable lesson on responsibility.

Dot takes on pet sitting duties for four friends. One of her friends, Hal, comes over to help but caring for a dog, cat, bird, fish and tarantula is overwhelming. Everything works out in the end and Dot ends up caring for her own dog and her friend's cat. She does a terrific job when it becomes a manageable role. Delightful illustrations help tell the story.
Early chapter book for lower to middle elementary readers. Simple to follow text and ideas. Relatable characters and situations for many readers. Can be used to talk about responsibility and know limits within a family or class setting.

I just adore Dot!! I loved Dot's picture book and love this sweet early chapter book. I think that there are a lot of characters in the story (people and pets) so it gets kind of hard to keep track of all of the names. But the illustrations are just adorable!

Dot: For Pet's Sake is a lovely adaption of DOT the children's television show.

Dot offers to take care of some friends' pets, and suddenly she's become a petsitter of many types of pets! With the help of an app, she knows when to take care of the animals and how.

This is a bit longer of a children's picture book - it has chapters! I think it would be suitable for kindergarteners and up. It's cute and funny, which is a definite plus for young readers. It barely seems like 80 pages when you get reading. The little chapters are just long enough too with lots of pictures to keep you occupied and focused on the story.

It's still a cute read with stunning, colourful pictures that will fit perfectly on your kiddo's shelf. I can't say if this is an accurate adaptation of Dot, but it is mighty cute!

Four out of five stars.
