Sea Salt Bay, a typical old seaside village with a family who have lived there for generations., one of whom gives up her job to help keep her Grandmother going after her Grandfather dies. This involves new and old relationships family and friends along with some who are not so pleasant or friendly. Life in a small place can be hard at times but this all makes for an interesting novel. Tilly always give you a good book to read and enjoy and this one is no different, very well written. 5 stars and a recommendation, well done.

Sadie is at a crossroads. Her chosen profession isn’t going very well. After the sudden death of her grandfather, she decides to give up her training and work with her grandmother in their Waffle house in her home village of Sea Salt Bay.
This is the perfect holiday read. It’s uplifting and entertaining even though it deals with quite complex issues such as family relationships, breakups, dementia etc. Sadie is a very likeable character with misgivings about past relationships, her past and her future. Her Grandmother is a feisty, believable character, who made me remember my own granny. The writer does a great job of describing the village and the people who inhabit it.
I really enjoyed this book and will certainly read more of Tilly Tennant’s work.

The cover of this book just screams Summer! It made me long for days at the beach so I really loved the coastal setting and it was really easy to picture everything. Unfortunately I don't feel I ever connected with any of the characters and I found it hard to get really invested in any of the relationships. I also found the ending to be quite abrupt and I'd have loved a few more chapters.

Tilly Tennant’s new book The Waffle House on the Pier has the most fabulous, summery cover that makes you want to dive straight in to discover the delights that hopefully await you inside. I mean who wouldn’t want to read a book set in a beautiful coastal village called Salt Bay that has a waffle house of all things at its heart? I expected this book to be in a similar vein to books in this genre that have food in their title and for it to be the lightest of reads just perfect to take your mind off things. It was all these things but surprisingly there was far more depth and emotion waiting to be uncovered than I had anticipated.

A problem surrounding a family member and how their relatives cope with it forms the basis for this lovely, heart-warming story and it soon became a book that I was enjoying reading as you easily identify with the main character Sadie and how she has to make some important, life changing decisions but at the same time she has to take into account how to deal with changes that no one wishes to see occur in their family. Sadie bucked the family trend when it came to her career and she is currently training to be a teacher, although she can’t say her work experience in the classroom is going all that well. Tourism is the backbone to Sea Salt Bay and her parents run boat tours of the bay, and her brother Ewan and his wife Kat run diving tours. Her older sister Lucy is away living in America and has no plans to return to the coastal village. But tourism and being out on the bay every day is not what Sadie wants from her life.

Sadie is now regretting her life choice and is beginning to realise she has made the wrong decision, how can she tell her parents that she has failed? It takes a lot of courage to admit to yourself, let alone family members whom you convinced that you were doing the right thing, that after all perhaps your decision was incorrect. It’s easy for people to continue with what they are doing even though it makes them unhappy and uncomfortable so I admired Sadie for reaching a decision that meant she would leave teaching behind and she would step outside of the box and her comfort zone. But I think with the unexpected death of her grandfather Kenneth this was the push that Sadie needed to forget about teaching. She realised life was short but she also saw that her grandmother April would need someone to help her run the waffle house. If she had loved what she was doing I would have said she was selfless in pushing teaching to one side but instead although a tragedy had befallen the family this happened at a convenient time for Sadie.

It’s hard to admit to yourself that you have failed at something. No one likes to experience that feeling as we all strive to reach our goals in life but now Sadie has reached a crossroads, the family want to sell the waffle house. They wonder is it doing well financially and also there is no way that April can manage it on her own. Since the death of her husband she is a shadow of her former self and the feisty, outspoken, smart and quick witted woman they once knew is disappearing. There were many hints dropped about April’s state of mind and I think at times Sadie and her family chose to ignore them because they didn’t want to face a further reality of what might be coming down the line.

Sadie fights her corner and the waffle house is given a reprieve. She will work there and help April for as long as she can even though she really doesn’t know the first thing about running a business. But the waffle house has been a staple of the community and part of the landscape for many years and Sadie doesn’t want to see it gone forever. Sadie hopes by helping April that she will bring her back to life and at the same time she will have a chance to assess what her own next life move should be. I totally understood Sadie’s confusion about what to do next but by helping April out, was she just putting off the big decision that needed to be made?

I understood she was genuine in her offer of helping as she had such an emotional connection to the waffle house but she really needed a strong purpose to her life and one of certainty instead of just aimlessly floating around. She feels that she can’t keep continuously starting over again in life and making a mess of things. Combined with the fact that she aches to have someone in her life that will offer her romance, comfort, support and friendship Sadie is not in the best of places and even more so when her old flame Declan is still in the town. Is he her unrequited love? The one that got away?

An unfortunate incident whilst out diving with Kat leads to the introduction of a newcomer to the village, Luke Goldman. I loved the character of Luke, he was a calming influence and written in just such a nice and pleasant way. I loved the fact there wasn’t some great big mystery surrounding him that what you saw was what you got. He didn’t play hard to get and he made appearances at just the right time at various stages in the story rather than being a continuously presence and Sadie only focused on him. I thought even though Sadie’s family weren’t too keen on him especially after how they first met that really she shouldn’t be influenced by others rather she should follow her heart. But was her heart telling her Declan will always be the one for her, even though he is with someone else, or should Luke be the one who is in her future?

Sadie was torn in many ways - romantically, professionally and with her family life and I really enjoyed reading how she was going to go about dealing with everything that life seemed to be throwing at her all at once. None of the storylines seemed contrived or forced. I really felt that they were realistic as many of the things I was reading about really could have happened in real life. There’s lots that happens as Sadie navigates her way through rough and uncertain times but at the heart of it all she really is trying to do her best for April. Yet there were certain points where I thought Sadie just came across as being too whingy and constantly being in a state of feeling sorry for herself. Yes she was proactive in some ways but in others she was on a constant downer and I wanted her to buck up a little bit. As for how the various other family members dealt with what was going on with April well I think it could have been handled an awful lot better. They needed to step in sooner instead of hoping that things could turn out differently. In that way I believed they really could have helped Sadie more as she battled to keep the waffle house open.

One thing I did feel was missing were lots and lots of descriptions of the food being cooked in the waffle house. There were little bits here and there, and I get that the food wasn’t the centre of the storyline, but I just felt there needed to be more to get my taste buds going and mouth watering. I think readers will expect this given the title and it was lacking that little bit. But look that’s a really minor issue, and me being picky really, because aside from that this is a really good story. Sadie took the family’s problems on her shoulders and yes the family allowed her to do that but its how she navigates the stormy waters and at the same time does some real growing up that makes Sadie a character you will root for and this a story that you will thoroughly enjoy.

This was a pretty good insta love story. I liked that it took place in a small coastal town. I liked the friendships and the family bonds. What I didn't like was that Sadie called her parents and grandparents by names of mom, dad, gammy and gampy and then turned and called them by their given names.

Then Sadie is hit by a boat and a few days later she is on a date with the guy who hit her. That's okay. But then the next day she's on a date with him again and then a day later, she's in his bed. What got me was they guy, after having sex with Sadie, starts questioning if she's going to break his heart and says he doesn't want to give his whole self away because he's scared to get his heart broken.

I do have to say the ending was good.

Sadie and her family are long time residents of Sea Salt Bay. Her grandparents own a cute little Waffle House at the end of the pier. One day, tragedy strikes and her grandfather passes away. That leaves the family at a crossroads on what to do with the Waffle House. Sadie’s grandmother, is showing signs of aging and dementia and the family wonders if it’s time to sell the family business. But, Sadie is connected to the Waffle House and tries to work out how she could keep it. The story diverges from there into several different plot lines including old love, new love, letting go and the complexity of family relationships. Her old flame, Declan, is now in a relationship with Melissa, which leaves Sadie wondering if she let “The One” for her go. But then, she meets Luke and the chemistry and attraction make her question if maybe he is her future.

Will she make her dream come true and keep the Waffle House going? Who will she choose, Declan or Luke?

This was a sweet little story, and was a quick read. However, once I was finished I was left wanting for more. I feel like the ending was abrupt and rushed and while it resolved the family drama, I would have liked to have a little more story development with Sadie & Luke. I didn’t find that I connected with the characters like I have done in other similar women’s fiction
books, so I think the character development was rather shallow. But, if you are looking for a quick beach/poolside read, this was enjoyable enough for that. I have heard good things about this author, so I’ll definitely try another one of her novels.

Thank you to NetGalley & Bookouture for the chance to read this ARC.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this book.

A feel-good family drama/romance set in a quaint English seaside town. The perfect book for relaxing on a lovely sunny day and dreaming of being able to go to the beach again.

The characters and their relationship dynamics between family members, exes, friends, and potential romances were described really well and made you feel that you were part of the story.

I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be reading more by this author.

Rating: 3 seaside stars

“The Waffle House on the Pier” was an interesting Women’s Fiction read. Initially I thought it would be more light-hearted than it turned out to be. I thought it was a rom-com beach read. It actually tackled some deep issues like a death in the family, and Alzheimer’s disease along with relationship issues. The author, Tilly Tennant, wrote with a deft hand. She folded in these issues without overwhelming the book.

Sadie and her family have lived in the fictional British seaside town of Sea Salt Bay for decades. Her grandparents have run a waffle house restaurant on the town’s pier for just as long. Sadie is the youngest of three adult siblings. She is not enjoying her final months in teacher’s training as much as she anticipated that she would. In fact, she hates it and is terrified of the time she has to spend in the classroom. Then her grandfather dies.

The family is gathered for a meal after his burial service. It is there that Sadie proposes that she help her Grandmother continue to run the waffle house. It helps her Grandmother, and gets her out of her teaching course. However, she doesn’t know much about running a restaurant. As she works more closely with her Grandmother, she comes to realize that her Grandfather had been covering up and compensating for her Grandmother’s slide into Alzheimer’s disease.

There is other drama on multiple fronts. Will she be able to avoid rekindling a romantic relationship with her first love, Declan? People seem to think that they should still be together even though Declan has moved on to another relationship. Then she’s hit on the head by a new love interest, Luke. How will that proceed? Will it proceed? Will her brother ever get over his anger at the way Sadie met Luke? Will Sadie be able to sort her feelings out about her love life, and/or her career? I will not answer the questions posed here. Never fear though, they are answered by the book’s conclusion.

I’d recommend this for readers who enjoy Women’s Fiction – especially if a small seaside town floats your boat. While it wasn’t the easy breezy romp I was expecting, I was happy to have had the chance to read the book. My expectations were not quite on track based on the book blurb, but that did not hinder my enjoyment of the book.

‘Thank-You’ to NetGalley; the publisher, Bookouture; and the author, Tilly Tennant for providing a free e-ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I love a book set in a seaside location, so this was on a winner from the start. We meet Sadie, who is trying to work out what it is she wants from life. Most of her family and friends live and work in Sea Salt Bay and whilst she always wanted to get away from working there, a family bereavement makes the decision for her. She decides to help with the running of the Waffle House on the Pier, that had been run by her grandparents. An enjoyable story, definitely worth reading.

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture, Tilly Tennant for gifting me an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!
After a vacation to the Gulf Shores when I was five I spent years dreaming of moving to an oceanside town and opening a shop. Sadie’s mishaps trying to run her grandparents restaurant is exactly how i’d picture that going. This was such a fun read that had me laughing out loud. I’m always a sucker for a good love triangle and I was more than pleased with how those relationships wrapped up at the end of the book.
I read this one poolside which felt just about perfect.

Thank you to Bookouture for my copy of this book via Netgalley and for letting me take part in this tour. I have been reading Tilly's books for years now and they always bring me joy!

At first, I wasn't sure if I liked Sadie. She seemed like she was living in a bit of a fantasy world. She had no direction with her career and was still hankering after her ex. her ex who was now happy with someone else. But as the book progressed and Saide grew on me. Saide has some trying times in this book and I really wanted to just give her a hug and a shoulder to cry on.

This book has all the hallmarks I've come to know and love with Tilly's writing. It was romantic, funny and with just the right amount of realism. Tilly writes not only a love story but a story of family and friendship.

This book is set in Sea Salt Bay, in Dorset. I absolutely loved the location. It's the perfect little seaside town. I also loved the little mention to another of Tilly's books Hattie's Home for Broken Hearts. Little things like this make me smile.

I feel like this story is unfinished. I'd love a sequel or maybe a book with Sadie's friends as the main characters.

How can one not love a book with the title "The Waffle House on the Pier". Everything about this book is precious! This is my first book by author Tilly Tennant and I've already ordered my next. If your a fan of Jenny Colgan and Ellen Berry then you will love this book. The town, the people, the food, the author describes everything in such detail I was wishing Sea Salt Bay was a real town so I could visit. Sometimes you just need a feel good story to make your mind relax and your heart happy.
"Run away to Sea Salt Bay,where the sand is warm and soft, the sea is perfect blue, and the candy-coloured waffle house is about to change Sadie's life....." I mean if this use of adjectives doesn't rope you in I don't know what will!
Sadie loves living in Sea Salt Bay, a small community where everyone knows each other and tourist love to visit. Sadie is training to be a teacher but so far she's met with resistance and is really second guessing her career choice. When her grandfather passes away the family is stuck with the difficult decision of what to do with the Waffle House. Grammy has already lost so much and the Waffle House is her second home. Sadie has so many good memories of her times spent at the restaurant and the town would be lost without their favorite breakfast spot. The family wants to close up or sell but Sadie just can't let that happen. The Waffle House is important to Grammy and maybe Sadie can help her run it. The family is against this idea and Sadie will soon discover Grammy is not at her best to continue working, which will make the decision to keep the Waffle House open that much more challenging.

I was fortunate to receive a copy of this book to read from NetGalley.

I absolutely loved this book. I was totally sucked into the family and the community. Luke is so sweet!

The author's writing is beautifully descriptive. I did feel there were a couple of large jumps in time but it's a straightforward read to keep track of. The cake and jam analogies were great!

I note the author has a large back catalogue so I need to check that out for some more pure escapism!

The Waffle House On The Pier is the first book of Tilly Tennant that I’ve read. Set in a beautiful seaside locale, it was a pleasant read.

The story got off to be bit of a slow start, I felt, but then sorted itself out. Having made so many career changes, I can well empathize with Sadie, and her confusion about her career. When her grandfather passes away, she realizes that her was really in running The Waffle House and not in teaching. Having two successful siblings didn’t help. There was subtle comparison and a lot of over-protectiveness from her parents and brother. Added to that was the fact that her grandmother was showing signs of dementia and was more of a handicap at the Waffle House. How Sadie, fights through this is essentially what the story is about.

Then there’s her dilemma with Declan, an old boyfriend, who she had broken off from. Somewhere, she regrets that decision and is constantly seeking the comfort of the known and familiar. When Luke makes an appearance, she is swept off her feet by his charm, but stills holds back because of her confusion about her feelings for Declan.

Family, making choices, trying to run a business against all odds, and trying to trust in love again are the threads that run through this book.

In the end, this is a sweet story of following your heart and finding yourself.

Sink into a 🌟🌟🌟🌟 summer read.

Tilly Tennant’s newest release, had me passing a lazy afternoon in Sea Salt Bay, smelling the salty sweetness in the air and hearing the sounds of the seaside arcades, excited children and the taste of fish and chips.
Sadie’s story is a complex one, thinking that leaving her home will bring her everything she wants but with the sudden death of a loved one she is force to confront the truth she is not happy. This is the turning point in what becomes a new adventure, being knocked unconscious by a canoe, being locked in the family Waffle House on the pier, a new arrival in the village and an old flame are just some of the challenges Sadie faces as she fights friend and family over keeping her grandparents legacy open.
I enjoyed the multiple facets of this story, and though points I didn’t get on with, that is personal for me and not a reflection of the author nor her writing. I fully recommend this book to anyone who wants to sink into a 🌟🌟🌟🌟 summer read.
My thanks to @Bookouture and @Netgalley for allowing my to read and review Tilly Tennant’s latest release.

The Waffle House on the Pier by Tilly Tennant is a wonderful story of Sadie who returns home to help her grandmother with the Waffle House after her grandfather dies. The Waffle House on the Pier by Tilly Tennant is a lovely, joyful story with some heart-breaking moments. Trainee teacher Sadie's life has hit a downward spiral. She is not enjoying her chosen career, she is no longer with her boyfriend Declan from her pre-university days and her grandfather has recently passed away. When Sadie returns home to Sea Salt Bay she realises how much she has missed her family and her home and she decides that her future lies in Sea Salt Bay Waffle House that her grandparents manage. Sadie knows it is too much for her Grandma April and helped by other members of her family, she takes on the running of the waffle house.

Sadie had a big heart, she was helpful, capable and friendly, and I loved her lively spirit and bubbliness. Sea Salt Bay is a cosy coastal town and a perfect setting for the story. The detailed and colourful descriptions of the town and its inhabitants by the talented Tilly Tennant brought the story to life marvellously. Her writing piqued my curiosity and the book was fun and refreshing to read. With its peaks and troughs, laughter and a large wodge of romance, I found this an enchanting read. I wanted to visit the waffle house myself, indulging in one of their delicious and delectable offerings, such as the crêpes. The love and importance of family as a main theme of the story was endearing making The Waffle House on the Pier a perfect summer read.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley and this review is my unbiased opinion.

Sea Salt Bay is an idyllic small town by the sea, full of nostalgia and a town where everyone knows everything about everyone. One of the gems of this particular town is the waffle house owned by Sadie's grandparents.

Sadie may have thought she would outgrow the small-town living and pursue other dreams, but she keeps feeling like a failure when things don't quite work out - her love life, her career- and then her grandfather passes away, leaving the family with some tough decisions.

Will Sadie be able to step in and rescue the waffle house with her declining in health grandmother, or will it all come crumbling down?

What I loved about this title was Sadie's strong ties to her family, and everything in the title revolves around how she's grown up and her bond with them. It was a great quick beach read, with a bit of family drama all mixed in and I was totally here for it! And, I'm dying to go have some amazing waffles!

The love triangle Sadie puts herself in - the one who might've gotten away, or the newcomer to Sea Salt Bay - kept me entertained throughout the book, and made Sadie as a character even more relatable!
