I could NOT put this down! I loved how Molloy played with POVs here. Super twisty and a must-read for Stephen King fans.

One of the Queens of Mystery/Thrillers.
I could never guess how it would end and mon of the twists were what I expected. I actually went back to read some parts. If trust your gut was a novel this would definitely be the back story of what happened when you didn't.
I'm looking forward to the next one!

Goodnight Beautiful and Hello Whack-A-Do storyline........

Aimee Molloy knows her way around a high tension read that unfolds like cockleburs in your underwear. The more you squirm, the more you are aware of their presence. Just when you flick one aside, another more jagged one greets you. Gonna stick with you until the end with these characters who marinate in lies and deceptions.

Chestnut Hill, New York seems to promise Annie and her husband, Dr. Sam Statler, a breakaway from the stress of living in New York City. Sam is a psychologist who worked in the children's psych ward at Bellevue Hospital. He hopes to open his own private practice in Chestnut Hill. They've purchased a home to be near Sam's mother who is in a nearby nursing home suffering from dementia.

We'll come to find that Chestnut Hill is Sam's hometown. He had quite the reputation with the high school girls back in his day. His patient load is now filled with women who gravitate to this former heart throb. And we'll also come to find that someone is listening in on his patient sessions. This someone appears to not have good intentions where Sam is concerned.......especially after Sam goes missing.

If you've read The Perfect Mother by Aimee Molloy, you know that the girl can write. This one travels some pretty dark roads in comparison. The plot deals with some toggle bolts that are loosening minute by minute. There's a smackin' twist that you won't see coming. You'll speak in mysterious tongues when you hit upon it. Seriously. Keep your eye out for this one. It's quite the diversion from riding on the Crazy Bus that we all find ourselves traveling on these days.

Okay, props to the author here for definitely surprising me with some of the narration. You tricked me! I didn’t love the story but I will say that if you like to be surprised with twists then this is for you.

Sam and his wife Annie are recently married and move to his hometown from New York. He is a psychologist working out of a home. And he goes missing. That’s about all I can say without giving away key details. I am new to this author. I haven’t read her last book , A Perfect Mother, but as a fan of psychological thrillers, this was right up my alley.

For me, it started off a bit slow. I didn’t really feel the need to tear through it. But it definitely set the stage for the rest of the book. About a third of the way through, I thought I had it figured out. Then about half way through, there’s a twist I didn’t see coming. I had to read that twist a couple times and scroll back a few pages just to double check myself. Then I flew through the rest. It was a quick read and constantly kept me guessing.

The end, as some other reviewers mentioned, was just okay. It did feel a bit rushed and a little too “perfect”. It wasn’t a huge disappointment like some other (ahem Gone Girl) books. Without giving too much away, I’ll just leave it at that.

With that said, I would recommend this book to others readers looking for a twisty psychological thriller.

Carve out a block of time to read Goodnight Beautiful by Aimee Molloy because you won’t want to put It down! Initially, I thought the book began with narrative from Annie, only to find out that it wasn’t her at all. That was the first surprise in this tale of a psychologist, Sam, , his wife Annie, and a deeply disturbed individual who begins a series of events that lead Sam and Annie on a path they couldn’t have foreseen.

Recommended by other galley chatters, Goodnight, Beautiful is well-written, suspenseful, and just a little unreliable in the narrative. I admit to staying up way too late reading this one. Will definitely recommend.

I truly believe I had this book all figured out. I knew exactly what was going to happen, but then my thoughts were completly derailed. This psychological thriller will have you reading from the first page to the last as quickly as possible. I look forward to reading her previous book THE PERFECT MOTHER.

A great psychological thriller by Aimee Molloy. I really enjoyed reading this book and will recommend it to our patrons. Many twists and turns that kept me guessing.

Goodnight Beautiful was very interesting, although I found it a little confusing. It took me quite a while to figure out who was speaking. In the end, however, I enjoyed it. A great thriller!

Part I tells about Sam and Annie who after a quick courtship get married and move from NYC to Sam's small hometown. They purchase a beautiful home and Sam begins a new therapy practice. Is their marriage as happy as it seems? Sam is stressed about his mother's dementia and money problems and Annie is feeling lonely and curious about Sam's mood shift.. This seems like the usual book about a husband and wife but once Part II begins, everything changes. This was an fun mystery book to read.

This is the type of book that keeps me reading past my bedtime. With multiple narrators which one do you trust? Sam and Annie have moved to his hometown to be closer to his aging mother. But things aren't what Annie expected and when Sam starts spending more and more time at work Annie begins to have doubts. When Sam doesn't come home the night of a storm Annie is left wondering what happened. Where is Sam? And as more and more is discovered Annie has more doubts and more fears.

This was a quick read with a very strong Stephen King “Misery” vibe to it. It took several surprising turns I didn’t see coming and kept me guessing. I like the suspense this author writes with. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book. 3.5 stars

This is chilling psychological fiction as it contains a sociopath who does some clever, kinky manipulating and plotting. You won’t find out who that is for quite a while into this book, but have fun guessing who it is.

The story revolves around Dr. Sam Statler, a psychologist. He’s newly married and has decided to move back to his smaller hometown in upstate New York to care for his ailing mother and live a quieter life.

He’s found the perfect place to fashion his new private practice in a beautiful old building and the owner is willing to let Sam redecorate however he likes. He’s getting the space for what he thinks is a really good deal.

Sam is riding high because he’s found a letter stating that his father is leaving his mother and ultimately him a good deal of money after many years of neglect. Sam wastes no time in spending money on furniture, a new car etc. All he needs is to get his mother to sign the papers for him to have power of attorney. That shouldn’t be hard right?

Sam feels he’s in the perfect place in his life. He has a new practice and a new wife, Annie, whom he adores. But we all know that things are never as perfect as they appear and Sam is about to learn a very big lesson!!! He’s very good at seeing inside his patients minds and motives but fails to turn the same attention on himself and those close to him, BIG MISTAKE!!

I hope this is enough to get you interested in reading this thriller with the ultimate unreliable narrator. Ms. Molloy uses this element to manipulate the reader more than once. There are quite a few twists that you will not see coming, I can pretty much promise you that.

I think fans of Ms.Malloy will be delighted and eager to devour her new offering and I’m sure she will gain new fans.

Having not read any previous books by this author, I was very surprised by the plot twists in this novel! On more than one occasion, <i>Goodnight Beautiful</i> takes you for a wild ride and you don’t see it coming in the least bit. I highly recommend picking this one up!

What to say about this book without giving it away? A therapist and his wife move from a big city to a small town where he sets up his practice in a small office converted from a room in a grand house with a storied history. The couple seem to have everything going for them until he gets a message from a young, hot female patient and he disappears. Did he finally do like his dad did and disappear with a younger model or has something else happened? Molloy is an expert storyteller, guiding the reader to make each conclusion she wants, then surprising them by showing just how wrong they were, and then doing it all over again. Psychological twists and turns, this is a twist on the usual suspense in the genre.

A psychiatrist and his new professor wife relocate to his hometown to be closer to his ailing mother. He finds office space in the basement of an old mansion with a quirky landlord who listens to his sessions through a vent that he inadvertently finds when organizing his newly obtained home. When that psychiatrist goes missing, the local sheriff assumes that he left on his own accord due to a mismanagement of finances, but he couldn't be further from the truth. Reminiscent of Stephen King's Misery, this book surprised me at every turn.

I suppose every mystery/ thriller writer wants their twist to be so unexpected that the reader stops and gasps, “WHAT.!!!!???” out loud, and that certainly happened in this case. I was so taken aback that I had to reread the previous pages a few times to be certain I had read what I thought I read. GOODNIGHT, BEAUTIFUL is a fast paced, enjoyable read, great for when you just want to completely shut out the real world. And, if you happen to be a WEST WING devotee, as I am, the book is even better.

Sam and Annie move to a small NY town from the city to be closer to Sam’s ill mother. All seems well, with psychologist Sam’s new practice growing. Little does he know that all the client’s visits to the downstairs home office are being listened to through a vent in the ceiling... who could resist? But then, Sam disappears - he leaves after a day of work one night and is not seen again.

This was an excellent book that anyone who is a fan of psychological thrillers should enjoy. One of the best I’ve read in 2020.

A thriller with some surprises. Good for a quick read. Don't care much for the characters, especially the therapist, but the story was somewhat entertaining. Some inspiration from Stephen King. ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.
