This was a fairly good read but I expected more of a psychological thriller but it turned out to Bea family drama. A good easy read that kept my interest throughout the story. 3.5 stars

Nell is shocked by the news of her mother's recent death ... her mother who Nell believed had died almost thirty years ago in a car crash along with her father. Lillian, Nell's grandmother raised her from the time Nell was just a baby and has allowed Nell to live a lie. Imagine spending your entire life not knowing the truth? Nell is on a mission to discover the real story...

I didn't get the psychological thriller vibes from this one, it was more of a family drama. Yes theres a few slightly creepy parts but it wasn't twisty or suspenseful and didn't have me on the edge of my seat. Unfortunately it's also very predictable ... with that being said, this was still an enjoyable read - when you remove it from the thriller genre ;)

Huge thank you to Bookouture and Lesley Sanderson for my review copy!

This book is neither boring nor intriguing. The suspense is predictable and the characters are usual. The writing is good and you won’t feel like closing it. Overall an average fun read without worrying too much about the plot.

Nell has been brought up by her grandmother Lilian after both her parents were killed in an accident when she was a young child. However, Nell's world is turned upside down when she receives a letter telling her that her mother has just died. How could this be?

Nell has had a difficult relationship with her grandmother and left home as soon as she could. But when she finds out that her mother has been alive all along and living nearby, she needs to know what has been going on.

This was an easy read, intriguing on some levels, but despite the story depending largely on two characters, they were not well drawn, particularly the protagonist Nell. Lilian's character is one dimensional despite her true motivations which are eventually revealed. Overall, a light read that doesn't bear too much scrutiny.

4/5🌟 #WhatWeHide

Great thriller with plenty of suspense, filled with dark family secrets just waiting to be revealed! I was completely captivated from very start to finish.

The main character was so lovable, I was really hoping it all goes well for her! Imagine finding out you’ve been lied to all your life, deciding to go on a journey to find out the truth, just to end up getting anonymous threats! Uh!

The book has it all - twists and turns, lies and betrayal, manipulation and obsession. What more can you ask for?

*Spoiler* Score down for not so satisfying ending as I would have hoped, but there’s nothing else I can complain about!

Thank you #NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Hmmm, I think that overall, I would say I liked the blurb (is that the right word!?) more than the actual book which felt a bit predictable at times, with no real twists (I kept waiting for these but was very disappointed!) I also found there were a lot of unanswered questions in terms of the why certain characters made the decisions they did. I could guess but it may have been nice for it to have been discussed. Overall, more of a chicklit with a hint of mystery for those who like that sort of thing.

Initially, I was sucked into this book by the unique thriller story line! I do love when a book has alternating narratives. It keeps me reading and intrigued. The main character, Nell, has to return to her home town after her Mother passes away for answers. She desires the truth and goes on a hunt to find it. Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.

The book was enjoyable and an easy read. The plot was somewhat predictable and this dampened the mystery slightly.

I liked the fact that flashbacks to the past were included which allowed you to better understand the emotions of all characters and heightened the empathy felt towards them.

Overall I think that the novel is worth a read, but the pace could be slowed down slightly - would definitely recommend!

What should Nell do when she receives a letter that her mother just died, but she thought her mother died thirty years ago?

I was sucked into this book and found myself annoyed when I had to put it down for dinner and bed. Nell was a character I found myself immediately sympathizing with while buckling in for an emotional journey to discover the truth behind her mothers death. There was a strong buildup of suspense in each chapter as secrets were revealed and the plot thickened. This was the first book I’ve read by Lesley Sanderson and I look forward to reading more.

This was a quick, easy read that kept me interested, but at the end, it just felt unsatisfying. I'm not sure that I can articulate exactly why, but maybe it's because it felt a little far-fetched. I can understand not knowing about her mom, but she never had curiosity about any of other relatives?

Nell gets a letter from a lawyer that her mother has recently died, only the story she's been told by her grandmother since her childhood was that her mother was already dead. She sets out to find out the truth. This was...a good story, although I didn't really LIKE reading it because Lilian was so awful and Sarah's story so sad. I also guessed most of what had happened in the past once I got the first letter Lilian wrote to Mary. 3.5 stars rounded to 3.

Nell is devastated when she receives a solicitor's letter telling her of her mother's death but not for the reason most daughters would be. According to her grandmother Nell's mum died thirty years earlier so someone is wrong and she knows it's up to her to find out the truth.

Although I enjoyed this book and know many people will have loved it, to me it felt a little rushed and incomplete. The premise was good and some of the characterisation was spot on but others fell flat. Nell was nice and I wanted her to succeed but her grandmother was more stereotypical and didn't come across so well. I also felt there was unfinished business which was shoved aside as the book seemed to end very suddenly. It was almost a book of two halves; the set up was great and I was ready for Nell to discover answers to all her questions and then bam, it was done and I was left with a feeling of anticlimax.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an unbiased review and would recommend it to anyone who likes this author's work, hopefully they will enjoy this too.

What an absolute corker of a thriller! I was blown away by this one but also left feeling heartbroken (no spoiler here) for Sarah.

Jammed to the rafters with twists, turns, betrayal, family lies, jealousy, deception, manipulation and pure evil! What more could you ask for?

As I think was Lesley's intention, I did figure lots of things out as the story evolved but that didn't take anything away from the story, I was completely gripped from start to finish.

In part I didn't feel the ending was wrapped up as neatly as I'd have liked, I was still left with small niggling questions and it felt slightly rushed BUT it was still a really good ending!

4.5*

The story was intriguing and there were a lot twists however when I finished the story it did not feel complete. I had more questions about some of the characters and the actions they took.

This was a pretty good read with some interesting twists.

Nell has grown up believing her parents died when she was a baby, so it came as quite a surprise when she received a letter notifying her of her mother’s death nearly thirty years later. But why had her grandmother lied to her?

I’m glad this story was told in both the past and the present POVs of the characters. It gave a lot of insight into why Lilian had lied to Nell, and why Sarah stayed away all of those years. But there was so much more to their stories, and by the end it was no wonder their lives had turned out the way they had.

Definitely recommend this one!

Often when the heart takes over disaster strikes and this is also the case in this very entertaining story.

When you have been deeply hurt by betrayal, the only thing some people want is revenge. They want to hurt as hard as they have been hurt. It does not take away the pain, but you just have to find a scapegoat.

Some things I had figured out, but I think this was the author's intention, because the hints were pretty obvious. It were the why and the surprises she had up her sleeve  that kept me glued to the pages.

I loved this book! Some people become cold and heartless due to circumstances, which means that they fit perfectly in this kind of books and make them perfect reads. 5 stars.

Thank you, Lesley Sanderson and Bookouture

Net Galley has blown me away with the book that I received through them. What We Hide has had me captivated since the first page and eager to dig deeper into the story. Lesley Sanderson has written this book well to keep you guessing with a surprise after surprise. So far this is growing to be be one of my top read books this year and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a suspenseful mystery. It has been a refreshing mystery from the typical who done it and murder novels.

What We Hide is my first Lesley Sanderson novel but most definitely not my last !!

Shocked to receive news of her mother's recent death when she had been told both her parents had died when she was a baby, Nell decides to return to the home she had lived in with Lillian, the overbearing grandmother who had brought her up, to find out why she had been lied to for so long.

As Nell delves back into the past to ultimately find the truth, disturbing and unsettling events begin to happen, someone certainly isn't happy she has returned.

What We Hide is a story of years of hidden secrets, love, lies, jealousy and deception.
It certainly kept me wanting to find out more and turning those pages. Full of twists and turns, great characters and an unexpected and surprising ending it's a novel I really enjoyed and would certainly recommend.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for an ARC for my honest review.

This is a decent read, though somewhat predictable. It centers on Nell, who receives a letter from a lawyer informing her of her mother's death, but she had been told her mother died along with her father in a car accident 30 years prior. She heads back home to where she grew up to confront her grandmother, Lilian, who raised her. The chapters alternate between Nell's current POV and her mother Sarah's POV throughout the years. I was frustrated with Sarah for not ever standing up for herself in any situation throughout the book.

The reader pretty much knows what is going on for the entire book, and is waiting for Nell to catch up- I wasn't sure if that was intended or not. I would have preferred more suspense but it's also somewhat satisfying to see Nell put the pieces together. Some of the things that Lilian did made me question if she would have really been able to do that, or to get away with it, though her intentions were believable.

The end of the book felt a bit like a stretch, and I wish we could have gotten more a of a backstory that tied the actions of the characters together a little more authentically.

Overall, a quick and absorbing read but didn't really stand out within the genre.

Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I liked What We Hide, it’s the kind of dark thriller that I usually find myself drawn to but there’s nothing here that stands out.
It’s not a bad story just a little predictable, there’s no surprises hidden in these pages. The synopsis is the plot.
I like to be thrilled and while What We Hide is good there’s nothing that makes it stand out.

Dark family secrets are always a winner for a book but I think this needs some red herrings. I knew what was going to happen!
