I found this book very hard to review and rate. The idea that all families are different is a good one. I loved the diversity shown in the illustrations of not only ethnicity, but family makeup. There were only a couple of words on each page to describe the idea or family that was pictured. This is where I had difficulty. It appears to be a book for babies and toddlers, but they don't understand the words used. It is too simple for older children. I would say it is a perfect conversation starter for learning about different kinds of families, especially when doing family units in kindergarten or primary classrooms. The illustrations are large and colourful showing various activities and emotions. A good book for primary classrooms.

I received this e-book ARC from NetGalley. Thank you!

This book is so simple and so sweet! The illustrations are so thought provoking. All kinds of families are illustrated here - traditional and non-traditional families, blended families, etc. I think this is the perfect book for anti-racists and for families with non-traditional views of gender norms.

Lots of Families

This is a sweet book that depicts a variety of family types: heterosexual couples, single parents, homosexual couples (both male and female), blended families, multi-generational families, separated families, large families, small families, etc. The author and illustrator were sure to include people of color and different religions as well. There are only a few words per page, most like the title, though others told what kind of family was being seen (e.g., blended family). A great way to open up a discussion about different kinds of families in case children have questions. Be sure to look at all the elements of the illustrations, as sometimes you find some very funny interactions between young siblings.

This simplistic, yet wonderful children's picture book is one that I think absolutely every child should have, and should see.
Not only does it show that there are multiple ways to have a family, but it shows complete diversity, and connectedness through the simple fact that almost all of us have a family.
It shows gay parents, parents that are separated, families that live a distance away. But they're all families, and I think that is absolutely wonderful.
5/5 stars.

In MY FAMILY, YOUR FAMILY by Kathryn Cole and illustrated by Cornelia Li, young readers can read and learn about all the different types of families. Families come in so many different forms that are illustrated in this book and it’s a great introduction for children to learn about this diversity. The book is simplistic and focuses on short phrases and uses illustrations to really highlight the similarities and differences in families.

For a board book with so few words, I’m amazed how engaging My Family, Your Family! is. An excellent entry point for introducing toddlers to the diversity of families both near and far.

My Family, Your Family is a perfectly sweet exploration of all different types of families. With diverse skin colors and family structures, Cole and Li show just how many ways there are to share family. The illustrations are beautiful and the simple text makes this easy to share with little ones.

This simple story shows a variety of families. There are very few words on the pages, but readers will likely see their families reflected on the pages. A good option for preschool age readers.

To start, I'm a mom to a 3 year old, and 16 month twins. The three year old has been obsessed lately, shouting out "we are a family" at least ten times a day when we are all in the car, or reading together on the couch, or eating breakfast all together at the table. She loved this book. With the quarantine in place due to COVID-19, our regular playdates with all of our various friends are not happening, and have not happened since March. The three kiddos she interacts with outside of our family are the three that go to daycare with her, and all have both a mom and a dad. While reading this book, she was curious and also made connections to some of the various types of families to our play date friends. One of the twins also was engaged and sat for the entire story (Only 10 pages in the epub, but there are a ton of illustrations and discussion opportunities).

There are depictions of single parent families, a child with grandparents, multi-cultural families, blended families, a heterosexual family, a family with two moms, one with two dads, etc. At the end, all of the families are playing together at the park. My daughter's highlight was that she found a family just like ours, complete with the triple stroller like the one she rides in with her twin brothers. I would recommend this book to all parents of preschoolers to begin the subject and multiple discussions involving how people are different, but similar. We will be buying this book once it is published and available to buy.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

This is a fantastic book showing children that no matter what their family set up is, all families are still a family - no matter the size, culture, parentage, distance or ages in the family.

This is a fantastic book to help children understand that although other families may be very different to their they are still a family and still love and care for each other.

I loved the simplicity of this book!

There was a variety of family's shown and this would fit perfect with a school's units on families and different types of families. I enjoy that there isn't a lot of language, as it will provides room for students to think about the pictures - not just the text. This also means it's accessible for low-readers and ELL students with limited language skills.

I'd love to use this as a project where students show what is a like and different in each of the pictures that are next to each other. I'm excited to purchase this book for my classroom.
