The House Party by Mary Grand is a book that readers will stay up late at night to finish "just one more chapter." Beth and Kathleen have been good friends for a decade, they may have started to drift a bit, but close all the same. When Kathleen tells Beth that she is scared of someone in their friend group and that person is hiding a dark secret, Beth promises Kathleen to hear her out and assist if needed.

When Kathleen is found dead the next day, Beth is inconsolable. She knows Kathleen was scared of someone, but doesn't know who. As Beth works to tie the pieces of Kathleen's life and death together, she is threatened by someone who doesn't want the truth to get out. Is this someone the person responsible for Kathleen's death or is her death a tragic accident?

The House Party is a fantastic read for anyone who likes twisty, witty thriller reads. Beth is brave to stand up to everyone in her tight-knit group and demand answers for her friend's death. She starts to wonder who she can trust - even her own husband is suspect in her eyes - but she won't stop digging until she finds out the truth. I highly recommend this book - you won't want to put it down.

It’s supposed to be a party to celebrate Kathleen’s gorgeous new home, but she tells her friend, Beth, that she believes someone they both know is out to harm her. Beth brushes it off, but the next day, Kathleen is dead. Now Beth has to face the fact that Kathleen was right and that one of their “friends” is a killer. But which one? As Beth probes into the mystery surrounding Kathleen’s death she discovers that more than one of the party goers had a motive to kill Kathleen

Kathleen tells her BFF Beth that she’s frightened of one of their mutual friends. Beth wants to help but Kathleen doesn’t give any more information… and the next day her body is found on a cliff. Of course, Beth wants answers and here begins an utterly twisty turny plot where you’re not sure who to believe (Beth certainly isn’t sure). You jump from blaming one character to another and you’re never quite assured of what’s going to happen. Which is brilliant if you love psychological thrillers like me. Set on the Isle of Wight, you get a real sense of how close everyone is, both geographically and relationship wise. But Beth has to understand why one of her friends would want to harm another. And it makes for a revelation that will surprise.
Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC.

This was a excellent novel, combining the elements of drama and thriller. The characters were depicted in a believable manner, and the story kept me on my toes. Highly recommended.

It's an ok read.

At the intimate house-warming party for her glorious ‘grand design’, Kathleen confides in her best friend Beth that she is terrified of one of their close friends, but daren’t reveal which one. The guests are a tight-knit group, but Kathleen is convinced one of them is dangerous. The next day Kathleen’s body is found at the foot of a cliff and Beth must face the sickening truth that she may have been killed by one of their trusted friends. With little help from the police, Beth’s decides to seek answers.
It's not pacey, just went normal from starting to ending.
Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood for giving me an advance copy.

A mystery that will keep you guessing. I had a hard time sometimes keeping all of the characters straight.

Kindly received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

At her house party Beth's friend Kathleen confides in her that she is terrified of one of the other guests but doesn't tell Beth who it is. The next day Kathleen's body is found below the cliffs and she is dead. As Beth tries to come to grips with her friends death, help her friend's husband Patrick, and also work and take care of her family Beth starts questioning all of her relationships and who she can trust. This novel has an interesting plot but I found it too slow moving and so many details boring that I quit after 30% of the book read. I then skipped to 90% and found the ending to be more interesting and suspenseful.

A sinister "whodunit" that is not your typical police procedural.

Beth and her husband, Sami, attend a housewarming party for Beth's best friend, Kathleen, and her husband, Patrick. Only a handful of people are at this party - yet one of them (most likely) will commit a crime. Kathleen has been living in fear of one of the people at the party - yet does not tell Beth, or anyone else, who that person is.

As the story unfolds, the reader is constantly changing their mind as to who/what happened to Kathleen. Speculation moves from one person to the next as to who the guilty party may be. First we need to find out who was blackmailing Kathleen and why -only then can we begin to figure out who may have sent her to her demise..

Truly a great puzzler with a superb ending! I HIGHLY Recommend!!!

Many Thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for a "can't put down" story.
