Tiger Wars by Al Cimino is an interesting read.

Having watched the Netflix series on Joe Exotic I thought this would be a good read. The majority of the book tells of the court case and the evidence during it which is not covered by the doc so I found out a lot more about the situation that has led to Joes incarceration.

Not a book that I would go back to but an interesting read especially if you loved the Netflix Show.

Thanks to Net galley and Boldwood Books for the ARC.

My review is my own opinion.

I’ve seen both the Netflix and Louis Theroux documentaries about the crazy world of Joe Exotic, and I thought I knew all there was to know about his mad world - I was wrong.
This book is a revelation into parts of Joe’s life I had never previously heard about, culminating in detailed transcripts from his trial, which is fascinating.
It is well researched, well written, and I believe anyone will enjoy it whether they’re a fan of Joe or not.
Compelling reading!!

Tiger Wars by Al Cimino
I have no good things to say. It's a good laugh if you need one. I really didnt like it though. There's not much if a storyline except the years of how he got crazier and crazier to me.
1⭐ and that's just for making me laugh. I cant say this enough it was so weird and just kept getting weirder. If you'd like to check it out though it comes out july 16@ 2020

Definitely a hard to like character, Joe Exotic is the epitome of a hustler, making money from the illegal sale, distribution and marketing of exotic animals such as tigers, bears, lions, primates, and hybrid animals he had engineered such as ligers, liligers, tigons, etc. Now a Netflix film, it is difficult to imagine a man of his low breeding being a celebrity in America, where he should be forgotten in prison (where he now is). As you can tell, I am not a Joe Exotic Fan, and never will be!

*Thank you to Net Galley and Boldwood Books for the advance copy of this*

I gave up on this book early on because I thought it was too dry. It reads like the organized facts of an academic paper. Given the subject matter, I would've expected a more entertaining book.

Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the arc of Tiger Wars by Al Cimino.

Based on the global Netflix Hit, Tiger King, most of you will probably know what this is about, Joe Exotic vs Carol Baskin herself.. Tells you the story of the big cat war between them, spirals of obession in which landed himself in Jail.... about Carol and her husband whom in which went missing...

Cant say too much if you havent watched Tiger King or heard anything about this....

5 Star read⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐- was very informative and hooking and now im going to watch the netflix hit after reading this!

This book had some fun new information but after the Netflix show and the podcast I was a little burnt out on the topic once I got to it. Definitely would have been more interesting if the market wasn’t saturated.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing a copy of this book for an honest review. I was excited to read "Tiger Wars". I had enjoyed the Netflix documentary Tiger King, although it was something I probably would have missed if it hadn't received all the hype that it did. I'm fascinated with big cats and wanted to learn more. Oh boy that was not really what I got out of watching Tiger King at all. I will say that I enjoyed the trashiness of the show and a look into the practices of the exotic animal trade. But I came away from the show that Joe Exotic wasn't all that bad and Carol Baskin was just as wrong as Joe was. However the book did not gloss over Joe's blatant and damaging abuse of the animals the way that I think the show did.. The show speculated a couple of times but didn't really go into detail. I was horrified by the details of senseless and grotesque animal abuse done by the hands of Joe in this book. If even the tiniest of the accusations are true, he is a terrible human being. I didn't really get anything else new from the book other than the last 40% or so recounts his trial transcripts. That was ok but to me if was rather dull and I can see why Netflix had the chance to air parts of it but didn't. In summary my takeaway after reading "Tiger Wars" is simply that Joe Exotic is an interesting but rotten man. (And Carol Baskin killed her husband).

If you’ve seen the show then you probably know a lot of what is in this book but it is does bring some additional information to the table and clarified a lot of questions left unanswered in the show. It is written extremely well and I enjoyed reliving Tiger King through the gift of words.

Tiger Wars was a fun read, but it is very surface level and you really need to watch the Netflix series to follow along since so much information is glossed over. The most interesting part was the end where it's just court records being documented, which didn't involve the author at all.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC for an honest review.

This book will definitely appeal to anyone who has watched the show, the only problem is you will know everything already about the contents of the book. The only added information was the transcript from the court where he stood on trial, which does reveal a little bit more in-depth into the persona of Joe Exotic, The Tiger King!
As easy to binge read as it was easy to binge watch the show!

Meh. Not awful. But definitely skewed toward Joe Exotic. Reading the court transcripts was interesting, but I'm not sure it was necessary to tell the story.

The Tiger King fad is in full bloom, and this book gives a lot of information about Joe Exotic, and his cronies. Joseph Maldonado-Passage is the former owner of an Oklahoma wild animal park. Maldonado-Passage is quirky, outrageous and profane- of course he has become a cultural icon. Like him or hate him, he commands attention.

More like 3.5 stars. I would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. I will admit as soon as I saw the preview for a tiger King, I knew it was something I needed to watch. I binged through it in one day, he was like a train wreck, you can’t help but watch. This book is no exception, a fun, quick read about Joe aka the Tiger King, Carole Baskin and their lives before their own lives intertwined. Plenty of info I hadn’t heard before as well.

Having missed the documentary Tiger King, I decided to read this book on the situation. I did see the documentary with Rick Kirkham, former Inside Edition journalist and crack cocaine addict, titled “The Truth Behind Joe Exotic: The Rick Kirkham Story”, which was a trip in itself. Rick split with Joe as his Producer after he angered Joe apparently. The production building with all of the equipment mysteriously burned down a couple of nights later after Joe changed the locks and had the only key. Kirkham had been going to produce a reality series on Joe, despite his growing reservations. The more he got to know Joe and the more he began to see how he operated, the less he wanted to do with him. The fire ended any reality show hopes, as the equipment of both men was destroyed in the fire.

This book finally turned the spotlight on Joe Schreibvogel for me, aka Joe Exotic, among many other aliases he used. It shared about his earlier years, his parents, his late brother, and how he got started with his zoo where it was in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. It also explains Carole Baskin and her place, the Big Cat Rescue in Florida, and how she and Joe came to have such a huge dislike for each other, and the way each  runs their big cat places. Joe has a pretty awful reputation and deservedly so, and Carole is horrified by some of the cruel things she has heard about that have happened at his place that he’s done. The battle of words online becomes personal and threats are made and it really becomes ugly. Then the lawsuits start. But Joe has other problems...lots of them. And they threaten to blow his world apart at any moment, that's just how he lives. This is a crazy book that makes for interesting reading, for sure about the bizarre world of exotic animals in the United States. I found it fascinating and flew through it in an evening. Advanced electronic review copy was provided by NetGalley, the author Al Cimino, and publisher in return for my honest review.

** Just a note, you may also want to check out the show on Joe Exotic and Rick Kirkham if you can find it on Investigation Discovery, or elsewhere, it was fascinating as well, it’s titled “The Truth Behind Joe Exotic: The Rick Kirkham Story,”. It was after Rick had lived at the zoo with Joe for about a year. Plus there’s one he did of his own life of making video diaries. It’s called ”TV Junkie”.  I found the title info on IMDB.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. As someone who loved the Tiger King series and podcasts on Joe Exotic, I was thrilled to read this book. This book is filled with random tidbits of new information and plenty of the information that is already known. It was a quick and enjoyable read. I would recommend it to anyone that is as enthralled with Joe Exotic as I was.
