For regular romance readers, there are no shortage of familiar tropes in this book. However, each of these is handled in a way that they feel new and interesting. The fresh spin on some well-known elements kept the story exciting, but with that particular reassurance that comes with our beloved romance novels. The dialect and descriptions gave a lovely authenticity to Maid for the Knight.

As far as the spiciness in the novel, it was done in a way that serves the story and wasn’t graphic. I think this would be a good choice for someone who is new to the romance genre and/or is a little shy about the love scenes but still wants some spice.

There were some details throughout the book that I think I would have understood better had I read the other books in the series, but they were explained in a way that allowed me to get a basic understanding and follow what was happening.

Overall, I enjoyed this story. It was fun and exciting, and I enjoyed getting to know the characters.

Matilda has been brought up by the Keith clan after being dumped on their doorstep as a baby. They always treated her like one of the family but she preferred to work as a maid and constant companion to Elizabeth. Now however somebody has been telling her who she really is and that terrifies her.

Reginald Irving is a Knight of Scotland. He is a warrior who spends most of his time traveling or in battle. It's obvious to his brother, the Laird and to him that secrets are being kept. Those can bring danger to the clan, so it's time to uncover them.

This historical romance is full of danger and intrigue. It's hard for our characters to know who to trust. You will easily fall in love with the complicated family dynamics. Our heroine is extremely brave and she needs to be. Our hero thought he had his whole life planned out, but was in for a huge awakening.

You could read this book on it's own but it's part of a series that is best read in order.

I loved it.

This arc was provided to me by the publisher and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Unfortunately, I had to DNF this book at 50%. I do believe this book can be very enjoyable for people who love fake marriages, Highlander politics, and a slow burn romance. However, I just didn't click with the writing style and felt myself getting in a slump trying to finish this book. The Highlander accent and the way it was written is probably very accurate but was hard for me to get through and made it feel a bit boring too.

This was a lively story of childhood friends becoming married lovers. The heroine was dropped off as a baby in a basket to a clan. She was raised with the children as part of the family and k ow her hero. The hero was from a neighboring clan. He is also the younger brother of the man who married the heroines foster sister. It is a very long story with many players. It became hard to disti gush a of the characters because many of them had been featured in past stories. Since this is the first book I read of the series, it was fresh and I was very confused at ti.es as a minor player came in and I didn't know the back story. It would have been helpful to read the books in order, but not mandatory. This was. Long book and there were times that the story dwelt on the off shoits instead of the main story line and I would tend to skim along until I was back o to a main story line. There was a lot of intrigue and action since this was one of the many times when Scotland was fighting with England. I give this book 4.5 stars because I had to skim and some parts just did not add to the overall effect of the story. It would not have been as long and drawn out if some of the information wasn't placed into the book.
