Claire Allen is the youngest woman to ever climb Everest. Now she's working on a docu-series to educate people on preserving mountains; however, the network has different ideas and wants to turn the docu-series into a reality TV show. Claire isn't sure that she wants to do the reality TV show, but she does want to go back to Mount Everest. Her last trek involved the death of a dear friend, who she still grieves.

Paul Charbenneau is at the top of his game as a male model. With his final catwalk performance, he meets Claire. He and Claire have an interesting past that is uncovered as the story unfolds. Paul also has a secret that could potentially make a relationship very difficult.

Together Claire and Paul face their pasts in a remarkably beautiful way. Eliza Lloyd does a fantastic job of describing the emotional upheaval of grief and survivor's guilt. She details the daily battle and the process of healing.

This book felt magical to me. I cheered for the characters and wanted them to succeed with each other and in life. I rarely see a couple that battles together so well while maintaining their independence of spirit.

I highly recommend this book!

A well written romance/adventure novel. I found everything to do with the mountain climbing and TV reality show aspect fascinating and obviously well researched. Claire and Paul connect for a one night stand and have a secretive 'friends with benefits type of romance' to start with. There are nicely penned steamy/erotic sex scenes aplenty, but I have to say I didn't really feel their connection as much as I could have. I didn't really like Claire much, as she's not the usual type of heroine I enjoy reading about - she's tough, calls it as she sees it and is quite aloof - but I admired her and thought the author did a good job with character development. Paul is a French catwalk and magazine model vying for a place on her team going to Everest. He also came across well re character development and the way the dialogue was written, he seemed very French, so a good job there. I enjoyed this book and my thanks go to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC in return for my opinion. I'm looking forward to reading about Paul's brother David in 'Pinnacle'.

Claire and Paul meeting were a mess. They were each going through their own issues. And don't forget about the twin snafu they went through. This book was an easy, fun read to entertain you for a few hours. I enjoyed reading it.

Although I really enjoyed the basic premise of this novel, I found Claire to be immature and Paul to lack communication skills, even beyond what you expect in a romance novel where lack of communication is what often drives the plot.

Interesting book. Climbing to the top of Mount Everest is challenging. It takes months of training with and a crew you trust. For Claire that was her best friend Darcy. Claire was all about the climb. Darcy brought the goodness, the fun. Now it is all about making back up on Mount Everest. She needs to do that for herself and for Darcy. Mixed into this is Paul Charbonneau. It seems that once upon a time he got mad at his twin brother and ended up with Claire. Now he wants her in his life permanently. There are obstacles in the way. The reality show she is part of and a stalker to apprehend. It seems that the third time around might be the charm.

Thanks go to the author and Net-Galley for the complimentary copy of Peak by Eliza Lloyd for the purpose of reading and reviewing. My opinions are my own, and no one has influenced them.

Peak is a well-written contemporary romance novel with complex characters and a unique plot. The pacing pulled me in from the first page and kept in its thrall until the last. There’s no doubt Eliza Lloyd did tons of research on mountain climbing or is one herself! While I’ve read several of her historical romances, this is the first contemporary, and Ms. Lloyd easily makes the transition from one sub-genre to the other.

The story line is so different. I know very little about mountain climbing and found the rigorous training a surprise. Although I suppose it shouldn’t have since it is an extreme sport. The challenge reality show, featuring Claire and the contestants, is fascinating.

Claire Allen’s character has a great many facets that makes her fascinating. She’s suffering from survivor’s guilt over losing her best friend while climbing Mt. Everest. She also has difficulty with relationships, which makes her encounters with the hero highly entertaining.

Paul Charbonneau is a great hero and is a male super model, so of course, he’s gorgeous. He has a stalker and it causes him great anguish. It plays into his relationship with Claire. I could feel his pain when he shares what happened to him.

The romance between Claire and Paul is combustible and threats to set the pages on fire. Ms. Lloyd’s love scenes are erotic and visceral, yet still has plenty of emotion, so I enjoyed them. I truly wanted them to find their happy ending.

If you enjoy contemporary romance with great sensuality and character that will intrigue, along with an unusual plot, then you will love Peak as much as I did. I look forward to reading Pinnacle, the second book in the Charbonneau Twins series. In fact, I’ve already pre-ordered it. Happy reading!

Peak by Eliza Lloyd introduces us to Claire, who is an expert mountain climber, and Paul who is a world famous super model. They have a somewhat complicated romance amidst a reality television show where Claire is preparing celebrities to climb Mount Everest. Both characters are dealing with personal struggles. Claire lost her best friend on her last attempt at Everest, and Paul is estranged from his twin brother and dealing with a stalker. Most of the story takes place in England.

I was attracted to this book by the interesting sounding storyline. I had never read a romance involving mountain climbing before and the reality tv angle was intriguing to me. I will admit that I was not a fan of Claire for most of the book. She had been through an awful, life changing traumatic event and I still found it hard to feel for her. I loved Paul. He was so sweet with her throughout the entire book and at times I had a hard time understanding why. Perhaps I needed to know more about what she was like before this story started because he had been interested in her long before the events in this book began. By the end, I was feeling better about them as a couple and could see their future.

There was just enough description of mountain climbing to be interesting and the reality show added just enough conflict. Paul's stalker storyline could have added more suspense, but was kind of anticlimactic.

Overall, I enjoyed the book and will seek out the second book in the series. My sincere thanks to the author and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book and give my unbiased opinion of it.

A different theme for a romance novel based on mountain climbing during a reality tv show, made for an interesting read. The characters were intriguing, particularly because the main characters had a role reversal from the typical romance. In this case, the hero was a supermodel, and the heroine was the world-class mountain climber. Their chemistry ran hot and cold in this book, making the building romance a bit inconsistent, so I wasn’t as invested as I would have liked. There were a several subplots woven through this book, but not as strongly written as they could have been. Again, I wasn’t feeling the suspense I would have liked. I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. This is my freely given, honest review.

Claire Allen, an expert mountain climber is trying to come to terms with the death of her best friend on their last climb of Mount Everest, when she is asked to lead a group of amateur climbers up that mountain for a reality show. Hoping to overcome her fears, she agrees. Among the group of hopeful climbers is Paul Charbonneau, whose twin brother she hooked up with the previous year.

A fascinating look at the difficulties of preparing for and climbing mountains. A pleasant romance rounds out the story.

Romance about climbing and falling in love!

Climber Claire Allen is trying to come to terms with the death of her best friend in a climbing accident during her last attempt of Mt. Everest when she is asked to lead a reality show about climbing Mt. Everest as part of the competition after training on mountains with increasing difficulty. Claire was surprised at the people that were trying out for the show especially male supermodel Paul Charbonneau considering she had dated his identical twin brother for a short week.

I was intrigued to have the chance to real a book about climbing because the premise was so unusual from any others but it isn’t just about the climbing but there is a very good romance between Claire and Paul which made it even better.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
