A rockstar romance in which the hero is an actual standup good guy, sign me up. Emily catches Jack's attention at a concert and from that point on he was hooked. Emily is standoffish and reserved due to her previous partner being unfaithful. Jack has to work at breaking down Emily's walls, while Emily is determined not to be hurt again. This a good beginning to a series.

It was hard for me to not DNF this book. I spent about 85% of the book reading about a kind and caring rockstar falling head over heels for a girl he just met and the girl fighting her feelings for him just because she was cheated on right before getting married. Throughout the book, the girl is fighting anything fun and only agrees to a one night stand with the rockstar but he begs her to stay over and over. They have sex about 30 times in less than 24 hours and they both swear up and down it’s love at first sight without knowing each other and they have a whirlwind romance where the bad a** rockstar chases the innocently seductive writer who refuses to acknowledge the attraction.

The only reason I finished the book was to see if she actually gave him a chance, which she reluctantly did. The book was witty and hilarious and made me laugh but I don’t think I would recommend this book.

Busy.

That is the word that comes to mind when I think of this book. Busy.

There are far too many plot lines, far too many characters, and far too much of everything going on in this story. I became so frustrated by around the halfway mark I DNF'd (47% if we are being technical) in an effort to keep my reading device in one piece.

Could this story have improved past this point? Of course it could have. Unfortunately, I was so infuriated with the myriad of characters making it impossible to keep them all straight, the conflicting behaviors coming from the characters I could remember, and the zillions of plot lines zinging past me, I didn't have the strength to continue.

And I tried very hard as a lover of rockstar romances to give this every chance I could, but when I am spending more time trying to recall who is who, I can't immerse myself in the story. Not to mention the fact I was trying to figure out exactly what story I was reading.

It appears that this is an early work for this author, so I am hoping that we will see growth and progression from her in the future.

One face in a crowd…
…and he knew she was the one.
Can Jack convince her to trust him?
Ok, so this just didn’t work for me. It was all over the place. I had a hard time with the rocker having a love at first sight. I really don’t care for books that end with cliffhangers. Plus, it reminded me of a book that I read a few years ago that was very similar. DNF
**I voluntarily read and reviewed this book

Not a fan of cliffhangers! Nothing was really resolved and Emily started out great, but ended up an emotional wreck that needs therapy.

I was provided with an ARC of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for providing me an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

Emily has been through a bad breakup when she meets Jack, a rockstar who invites her backstage after a concert. It is love at first sight.

I was in the mood for something lighthearted and fun, and I enjoy an occasional rockstar romance. However, this wasn’t the book for me. The dialogue felt stilted and long winded, the main character goes into a million deep conversations (breakup, death of dad, addiction) within 10 minutes of meeting the guy.

From what I can see online, this is the author’s first novel, and I think there is some potential once the author finds her voice.

The story captured my attention within the first few pages. It dragged a bit in the midlle and there were some scenes/ dialogue that seemed repetitive. But overall a interesting story.

Loved this book! I love the story of Emily and jack! It’s easy to swoon over jack the rockstar with a heart of gold ! Emily fights him at every turn. Heartbroken from her ex fiancé who she found cheating, she meets jack. Jacks instant attraction to Emily had me swooning from his first thoughts of her!
The story is easy to get sucked in ! I can’t wait to read book 2

The first book in a Trilogy, we are getting to know Jack and Emily. Emily does a spectacular job of throwing out the trash, after walking in on her fiancé and female friend! Then the best friend gets her to go out to see her favorite band. Jack, the lead singer, sees Emily from the stage and does the Rockstar thing and gets her backstage. For him insta-love, for her not so much, she is still working through her past. Throughout the book, we are getting glimpses of Jack’s stalker. The love and support of their friends, plus the chemistry of Jack and Emily made me keep going.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

Emily Prescott a copywriter and novelist, is just three weeks away from her wedding. With everything paid for the countdown is on for the big day. Arriving home mid-afternoon, she is looking forward to a few hours of work on her latest book before Sully comes home. However, with noises coming from their bedroom when she arrives home, she finds him in bed with someone from his office. She throws him and the girl out.

Nicki, Emily's best friend decides that she can no longer mope about at home after a couple of weeks so persuades her to attend a concert. Tickets for Nicki's birthday courtesy of her ex-boyfriend (who also recently cheated - men!). Although Emily is reluctant to attend she goes to support her friend for her birthday.

Jack McBride is the lead singer and guitarist of the band that they are going to see. As soon as he steps on stage he spots Emily in the crowd and his breath is taken away. She is truly stunning. Emily notices Jack too, although recently heartbroken she is happy to look from afar. That is until Jack sends a note via one of the crew and invites her backstage. She doesn't want to go but Nicki persuades her to go.

Join the journey of the will they, won't they story of Jack and Emily. Lots of passion, miscommunications and past history to deal with along the way.

The first segment in a trilogy - originally one large 1200 page book now split over three books. Which is obvious when it comes to the end of the book as you are only just getting into their journey.

An okay read, bit long winded for me, Jack is definitely not the usual rock star bit too soft and Emily was infuriating, but the ending has got me reading the next in series.

I DNFed this at about 45% in, so keep in mind there's a chance it gets better. This is only my take on the first half or so of the book.

I always strive to find the good in every read, as there are positives to be found in every book, so I'm going to start there. I enjoy rock star romances, so the plotline in general was a delight for me. I loved that Emily and Jack met in such a unique and untraditional fashion. A truly delightful meet-cute. I also enjoyed some of the dialogue scenes where the characters weren't trying too hard to fit their stereotypes. When the author let go and allowed the characters to speak naturally, they were pretty wonderful. Relatable, down-to-earth, and witty.

Now, I'm not going to beat this book up, because I don't do that. At the end of the day, not everything is for everyone, and this just happens to be something that isn't for me as a reader. There were a lot of plot device and craft choices that jarred me and made it difficult to engage in the story or to relate with the characters. I was constantly being taken out of the narrative and struggled to get back into it.

So, again... perhaps this gets better, and perhaps it'll be just the exact thing for you, but it wasn't that for me. Sadl.y.

This review is going to be all over the place, so I apologize in advance. I'm not sure where to start. I've waffled endlessly with the star rating, so settled on a 2 star because part of me wants to give this a 0 (if that were possible) and part wants to give it a 3.5 because there are some okay parts. So I'm settling on a rounded up middle number.

One of my biggest issues with this book is it starts in the completely wrong place for a romance. We have to wade through far too many pointless scenes getting to know the main characters on their own before they FINALLY meet. All of that could've been handled as organic additions to the internal narrative once the characters have met. We don't need to know all of that up front. It slogs and drags along and made me almost DNF several times.

Next in line is the quite literally 100 different characters. My goodness. Just why?! Not only do we meet many of them in the first few chapters, which is overwhelming to say the least, but it never ends. Every chapter we "meet" at least 3 or at most 10 brand new charatcers, complete with their names. It's hard enough as a reader to get accustomed to the main characters and a few side characters. If you start throwing in an endless number of new names, you leave me forgetting who is who and it makes it impossible to engage. Not to mention how it starts to sound like a Dr Seuss novel because every sentence has multiple proper nouns and far too few pronouns and it starts to feel clunky and confusing and then when multiple characters with the same length name or same initial letter or... just no. My gawd, just no. I started rolling my eyes so hard every time a new named character appeared and that is not the reaction you want from your reader.

Oh, and then there are the extremely pointless and random hops into different POVs. You see about three pages of Nicki's POV and the same of Elliot's for literally no reason other than to exposition dump backstory about the MCs. Please, please, please don't do this. Weave it in organically. It is so unbelievably jarring in a romance to suddenly leave the little bubble of the MCs headspace like that. Just don't.

Those are my major beefs. There are others but I don't have all day.

As for what worked for me? I did like the general plot. It feels like a fresh take on a tired trope. And I enjoy the MCs for the most part. General craft is handled well, for the most part. Definitely nothing I'd recommend to others, but barring my major issues above, it kept me reading to the end. Somehow.
