One of the best books to finish 2020 with, I originally read this back in October as an ARC (thanks Netgalley and Putnam!!) but I reread it on New Year’s Eve! :) what a wonderful story about fate, believing in yourself, and becoming everything you were meant to be!

Minnie and Quinn meet at a New Years party and have nothing in common, except while chatting discover that they were born in January at the same hospital within moments of one another. Quinn had a privileged life and is now successful whereas Minnie is struggling to keep her business open. After this initial meeting they keep bumping in to one another and ... it’s a romcom so, you know.

I thought it was cute. And even though it wasn’t the intention of the book, I loved this alternate look at what 2020 could have been if this year hadn’t been socially distanced. It’s a quirky, enjoyable read with perfect timing for me.

I really enjoyed the premise of this book, two people born on the same day, at almost the exact same time, who meet years later and now can’t seem to avoid each other. Minnie and Quinn were great main characters, I loved seeing all of their interactions and was rooting for them right from the beginning. There is so much fun banter included in this book along with many well thought out side characters who had surprisingly good stories of their own. Overall this is a sweet romantic comedy that also touches on friendship, family, and learning to love yourself.

Minnie and Quinn's story was quite cute to read. It was cozy, entertaining, and also familiar in a good way.

A solid read that was enjoyable but just didn't stand out to me. As this type of read within the women's fiction and romance genre becomes more saturated some of these start to blur together.

Fans of Hallmark movies and romances such as One Day in December and The Two Lives of Lydia Bird will most likely love Sophie Cousens's This Time Next Year. It is hard not to fall in love with Minnie and Quinn. This was the perfect cozy read for the cold snow days of February. I would recommend to anyone who doesn't gravitate toward romance - this might change their mind!

Sophia Cousens has written a light read that is a distraction from real life. This book is a good palate cleanser after a heavier read.

This is a story about Minnie and Quinn who were born on the same day in the same hospital within seconds of each other. All through their lives they cross paths without many times knowing until on one of their birthdays, their paths cross and the rest is history.

Loved this book! I loved Minnie and Quinn. Their personalities, their experiences, the way their stories play out. I don't want to give much away here, but it is an excellent contemporary fiction with a romantic twist. I definitely recommend this novel.

Are you looking for an amazing Rom Com? If so look no further and get This Time Next Year by Sophie Cousens. This book was super fun and had amazing storylines with substances! I really loved Minnie and Quinn and their beautiful story. One of the things I love about Rom Coms is amazing banter and let me tell you Sophie writes amazing banter!

This novel is thoroughly enjoyable. I loved the hapless protagonist. Life doesn't really go her way but one hopes that her good nature will ultimately be rewarded. The reader will just have to wait and see.
The narrator of the audiobook is perfectly cast.

This book was so fun! I loved that we got to see how interconnected Minnie and Quinn's lives really were every New Year. What was so beautiful about their relationship was the friendship foundation that was built over time, plus they had really great banter. A must read!

A sweet rom-com about an unlucky girl and a charmed (or maybe not-so-charmed) boy, This Time Next Year is the perfect holiday escape.

Minnie Cooper's life got off to a bad start the day she was born. From having her name stolen by another woman giving birth to losing out on thousands of dollars by being born a minute too late, Minnie's luck has only gotten worse over the years. Then New Year's Eve 2020, Minnie meets the name-stealer himself, Quinn Hamilton. Quinn may seem to have it all but appearances can be deceiving, and as he and Minnie get to know one another, they realize that while neither of their lives are perfect, they could be perfect together.

Poor Minnie. I felt so bad for her being stuck in this weird relationship with her birthday and name. I loved the interjections of the past from Quinn's point of view and wished for more of those moments. It did get a little confusing figuring out who's past we were in Minnie's or Quinn's. I loved these two together and loved that Quinn was an imperfect man. His issues made him more relatable and realistic. His relationship with his mom was tragic but forcing a relationship with her Minnie's mom was genius. This was a fantastic holiday read that I can't wait to recommend to everyone I know.

Way too similar to other books. This common theme of missed connections has become too popular, especially in books released in December. V strange

This was the perfect book to read for the New Year! I found it funny how so many things happened in 2020, as it was clearly written before the pandemic, and it was fun to pretend that the world was still normal!
I enjoyed the cast of characters, and I thought the romance was sweet.

I really enjoyed this cute romance. I loved the back and forth in time between the two characters. And their overlapping stories!

I enjoyed This Time Next Year much more than I thought I would! It was funnier than I expected, which was just what I needed!
All the coincidences that usually annoy me in romance books didn’t in this one since it’s driving the book’s plot.
I loved Minnie, the main character. She was relatable, fun, and had real-person problems. I liked that she and Quinn didn’t just fall into a relationship – it was a great buildup, and they actually dealt with their issues.
This Time Next Year had a wonderful balance of humor and seriousness that made it a great read.

I really enjoyed this British rom-com. Recommended to fans of Sophie Kinsella.

I LOVED IT I LOVED IT I LOVED IT AND I WANT THIS BOOK TO LIVE IN MY BRAIN FOREVER.

As you may know from my other romcom reviews, I have ridiculously and weirdly high standards for what makes a good romcom in my book. One little thing goes wrong with the chemistry, the character development, etc., and poof, I'm done. But this book hit every note perfectly on cue, leaving me singing with happiness by the end. The concept is so fun and inventive, and more importantly than that - it's really well executed.

What I loved most about this book were the characters, especially our lovely heroine, Minnie Cooper (yes, that's the name, and there's a story behind it). She's flawed in all the best ways but utterly lovable, funny and smart and headstrong. Her outgoing, wacky best friend Layla is partner-in-crime-and-sometimes-business supreme, and even the side characters who work at their shared bakery business are still fleshed-out, sweet companions. Quinn Hamilton, our love interest, is similarly 3D: he's far from perfect but still a dreamy prince, and the way his character in particular develops throughout the book is just lovely.

Cousens got all of the little things right, and it's those little details that endear the book to you even more. When Minnie's pie business is failing, there's no deus ex machina to save it all - she, like real life women, has to accept failures when they happen, put her head down, and move on with her life. Minnie has anxiety and presses her nails down into her hands or other surfaces when she starts to feel particularly anxious (I do that too!). Quinn goes to therapy but it doesn't magically fix the longstanding issues around love and commitment that he has, although it helps him reframe the way he thinks about these life-defining concepts and understand where his trauma comes from. Layla and Minnie are best friends, but they fight, because sometimes that needs to happen for the friendship to come back in full force.

I'm not joking when I said that I laughed, cried, and swooned over this book. It sounds cheesy, but I truly did. This book kept me company on a six-hour road trip, and the story was so entertaining and sweet and engrossing, it hardly felt like I was driving at all. I can't recommend it enough. Please go pick this up!

After narrowly losing the New Year's Day baby contest on January 1, 1990, Minnie was born into an unlucky life, especially on her cursed birthday. On New Year's Day 2020, she meets the baby (now full grown man) who won, born only minutes before at the same hospital, and finds that he ended up with all the luck. Handsome and rich and charming, Minnie's birthday twin is a curious window into the life she never had. But as they keep running into each other, it seems like luck isn't all that ties them together.

SO CHARMING, I tell you. Delightfully funny, and every one of the characters is a gem. I really enjoyed this New Year's romcom and could totally see it being adapted for the screen.
