I'm all for vampire books, they're some of my absolute favourite books, but this one just didn't do it for me. It felt overly juvenile and not what I was hoping for. It was a relative struggle to get through and I just didn't end up enjoying really anything about it. Sad because I had high hopes.

I didn't care for this title. It just didn't capture my interest or drag me into it's world. I was just bored at times and I didn't fall in love with the characters. It just ended up being a really tough read.

One night Tansy, a witch, and her friends Skyler and Vaughn go to a party that ends very differently than they thought it would. Tansy ends up getting bitten by a vampire and Skyler leaves with the band that was at the party, who are vampires. Tansy and Vaughn set out to save Skyler from the band and they go on crazy adventures while doing so.

This was just an okay book for me. There were some laugh out loud moments but most other times it jumped around too much and had me confused as to what was happening. Some scenes felt like they came out of nowhere just to be a page filler. There were parts of the story that felt too drawn out to the point I was almost bored, where other parts seemed to be resolved too quickly. It felt a little on the younger YA side as well, which there isn’t anything wrong with just not what I expected.

I did appreciate the friendship between the three main characters and what Tansy and Vaughn went through in order to save Skyler.

Thank you to Entangled Teen for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a decent start to a paranormal YA series that's set in California and filled with witches, vampires and a bit of romance. Tansey, a witch, and her guy friend Vaughn, go in search of their friend Skyler who's been entranced by a vampire band. I liked the overall story and world building, but the writing was a little jumpy and didn't have a good flow at times. Parts of the story felt entirely too strung out and slow while the end felt very rushed. There was a bit of friends to lovers side story going on between Tansey and Vaughn through this journey, but the chemistry between characters needed to be a lot more. I did enjoy the overall world of witches and vampires in an urban setting as well as the characters themselves. It will be interesting to see where these characters go progress from that ending!

*Thank you so much to Entangled publishing and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read this digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I want to thank NetGalley & Entangled: Teen for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Sadly, this book wasn't made for me, I was able to enjoy some scenes that made me laugh and I can also say that the positive thing about this book is that at least it kept my interest in knowing what would happen, even so, there's not much else to highlight. The plot itself is about vampires, there are a bit of boyish bands, travel and friendship too, it has a very old-school style in terms of structure and plot, which can be a fun factor, just didn't resonate with me this time, plus it didn't help the fact that it's pretty cliche. I felt everything quite flat, there are scenes that are absurd that come out of nowhere to keep the plot moving, the characters aren't strong enough to be highlighted and sadly I don't have much to say about the descriptions or the setting since there's not much development there.

The book basically follows Tansy as she tries to save her friend Skyler from a gang of vampires while trying to discover the meaning of her feelings for her other best friend Vaughn. From here they'll find themselves in impossible situations surrounded by dangers and challenges which will push Tansy to make a decision as the last sacrifice to save the lives of her friends.

I think this book ended up being too childlike for me, I don't mean that I don't enjoy books with this youthful vibe where anything can happen as long as the plot continues to move, but in this case, it didn't work for me. I think the idea itself is fun, and I was super excited to read it just because there would be vampires and that's always an entertaining factor for me, and while I did enjoy that particular point, I think the execution itself and the way in which the author has handled the development of it is something disastrous at times, I don't want to sound mean, but I really think there were many ways to take the story down an interesting path and this hasn't been my favorite. There are a lot of good ideas in the book, but I don't know, it just felt too carefree to be 100% interested in what was going on.

There's a very great lack of descriptions and this makes it difficult to locate within the story in time and space, this is not always something that personally requires to enjoy a plot, but here I do think it would have been a great touch that would probably have done a lot more for the plot. On the other hand, we also have the development of the characters, and this is probably what I liked the least about the book, the characters themselves aren't remarkable nor do they really have anything that makes them special to me , plus many attitudes, especially from Tansy, are silly, and it's okay, I understand that the characters must go wrong to carry out and grow at some point, but OMG, she was desperate for me, I don't like this character and I feel like she has had too many opportunities within the story to re-vindicate herself and she hasn't known how to take advantage of them.

I had high hopes that the book would improve in quality towards the end and at some point, I almost thought it would, but it didn't, and it fell again to end in an unsatisfactory way for me. I think one of my biggest problems with the book is that it doesn't follow a clear line when telling the story, it's like random things happen all of a sudden to make it more "exciting" I guess. I can't deny that it has a lot of twists and turns and revelations, which makes it feel a bit more interesting when reading, but even so, a book doesn't stand up on revelations alone, so after the surprise and the initial shock again falls into being even a little repetitive and cliche at times. Although I must admit that romance hasn't been one of the worst I've read, it has adorable moments, which is good.

In some way, I can see the author wants this story to be sexy and funny something like True Blood but more youthful(? Or something like that, so maybe this crazy and reckless factor that characterizes it is here on purpose and is the style the author wants to give to the book, in that case, I can see other readers enjoying it without problems, perhaps I'm not simply the target for it, since a certain part of me expected a greater development of the plot, more explanations in general, and above all a seriousness that's lost as you progress through the reading.

I'll not judge the author based on only one of her works, nor it's my intention to speak badly of her style, I believe that each writer has a unique imprint that will always work wonderfully for some readers more than for others, so I would probably be willing to give her a second chance maybe with another type of genre.

This book isn't for me, and that's clear, but even so, I think it could work if you're looking for something light to read, it may be the absurdity of its plot and the crazy actions of the characters, as well as the youthfulness of their dialogues and paranormal factors works for you at the end. Obviously, I cannot recommend it as fervently as I usually do, since it hasn't been a book that I enjoy with that intensity, but even so, this is just my opinion and I hope it doesn't stop you from trying it if you feel like it. It's clear that I was looking for a much more serious, intense, and action plot, so this book really fell short in those aspects. I still think, from my humble opinion, that it could be an interesting plot with a little more work.

Hi Books Lovers,

I read this book, The afterlife of the party by Marlene Perez – gently sent to me by Entangled publishing which I’m immensily gratefull to for the lovely books their sending me -, more than a month ago. I said: yes, let’s read it so I’ll be ready to post the review on the release day; did I do it? Nope. I read the book and for some reasons, mostly because of university commitments, I never wrote the review, so sorry XD.

But now here I am, writing a very positive review. SHUT UP to everyone who says that vampires are overrated, I read the afterlife of the party only because vampires and other supernatural creatures were in it, I read Crave in a shorter amount of time because of vampires, and I’m now reading Crush, waiting for I’m with the banned for the same exact reason, so just because you don’t like vampiures because you got stuck in Twilight period it doesn’t mean all of them are bad, and silly and boring.

With that said let’s go back to The afterlife of the party. A beautiful book one of a trilogy I have high expectations on, so please Marlene don’t let me down. The writing is very smooth, and the adventure start almost right away trowing us into the heart of the storyline that will be.

Also, even though lately I enjoy better third person narration, I liked this first person one quite a lot. It’s very interesting to know what’s in Tansy’s mind, like how much she cares for Sky and what she’ll do for her, and how her feelings for Vaughn evolves in the book.

Everything starts exactly as the title of the book says, from a party. Sky convince Tansy to go see this, shown to be awful, band. Vaughn can’t be there at first due to a delay with his father. There Tansy understand that there’s something wrong. In fact the bad members are vampires and they use their concerts to find victims. Sky is one of their long time victims, and now they’ve abused of her too much that it looks too late to safe her.

Things from here evolves. Sky run away to find the vampire band. Tansy looks like is descending from a real family of witches, and is determined to save her friend. With her goes Vaughn, but the real hard part comes when they indeed find Sky, but also, as the plot says, find themselves in the middle of a vampire war, and it will be up to Tansy to save her best friends.

Do I recommend this book? Heck yeah. If you like fantasy then you should absolutely read it, and then come to my blog, Me and Books, and tell me what you thought of this story. Guys Vampires are coming back!!

I had an e-arc of this book, but it's one I haven't been able to get around to. The Afterlife of the Party was also on Storytel, so I decided to listen to the audiobook. This one just wasn't for me. I love stories with witches and vampires, but this one was just a bit too much of the cliche things we see in these stories. I mean a band of vampires called The Drainers?

This was a quirky, fast-paced book about a girl named Tansy who goes to a party and is turned into a vampire without her consent. Tansy, along with another friend Vaughn, try to save their best friend, Skyler, from the vampire "bleeders" groupies for The Bleeders band through the entirety of the book. But what they find is more than they would ever bargain for. Everyone needs friends like Tansy and Vaughn. They are both loyal and do everything in their power to save Skyler.

I thought this book was a little off at some points and jumped around quite frequently. Some of the fight and action scenes were choppy as well. But with that being said, though this book had a lot of humor and sarcasm running throughout, it also touched base on some important topics about consent and human trafficking. As the reader, you were able to see the questionable actions the characters were taking under the guidance and trickery of the guys of the band.

I think this book holds important conversations in a lighter way since this book is based on vampires and witches. It's a book that speaks on the dangers of meeting people you don't know and then getting caught up in a web of schemes that most teenagers wouldn't see coming.

I loved the idea of this book. Reading it just didn’t really fulfill what I was expecting from it. I love vampire stories but this one didn’t meet the mark for me. I kept stopping it to pick up other books and almost dreaded going back to this one, so I didn’t finish this one.

I'm always desperate to find the next vampire story that I am going to fall in love with, but unfortunately this was not it. I read a lot of books that are meant for readers younger than me, but this is one of those where it definitely felt like I was too old for what the author was trying to do. There were a few surprises when it comes to vampire tropes that I appreciated, but overall I felt that this one was one big let down.

The Afterlife of the Party is the first book in the Afterlife series by Marlene Perez. The afterlife of the Party is a young adult paranormal romance with a great dose of humor added in. This is not your typical vampire story and I loved it! I cannot wait to read the next book in the series and in general, read more books by Marlene Perez. This book, and trilogy is going to be great for fans of young adult paranormal like enjoy lighthearted fun reads. It’s like a paranormal rom-com, with a slow burn romance that is totally swoon worthy. I really loved this book.

In The Afterlife of the Party, we meet our main character Tansy. At the start of our story Tansy is dragged to a party by her friend Skylar, where her boyfriend and his band are playing. Tansy goes to the party with her best friends Skylar and Vaughn. Everyone quickly learns that there is more to this party than meets the eye. The band, called the Drainers, are really vampires (hehe), and Tansy ends up getting bitten and Skylar gets taken by the band. So Tansy and Vaughn set out to save their friend. This book was a lot of fun. Tansy and Vaughn set off after Skylar and the band, all the while Tansy is dealing with becoming a vampire. Technically, she is a a half-vampire/half-witch combo, and I have to say it was pretty interesting to learn about her capabilities.

There is romance along the way, lots of bad guys and adventure for our friends to get into. I thoroughly enjoyed the ride The Afterlife of the Party took me on. I can’t wait to see what is in story for our trio in the next installment. There are some interesting secondary characters, like Granny, that I hope to see more of in the next book as well. Bottom line: If you are a fan of young adult rescue adventure stories with plenty of paranormal action thrown in, then I think The Afterlife of the Party will be a lot of fun for you. I appreciated how lighthearted this book felt. It really felt like a unique vampire story. All I have to say is- bring on book 2!

This book was good!! I forgot how much I loved Marlene’s writing, I read her Dead Is series as a teen. This has all of that supernatural quirkiness with the added vampire teen drama

Vampires are officially back in The Afterlife of the Party. This book brought back so many memories of devouring vampire books almost exclusively in high school. I had so much fun reading it! It’s full of drama, action, and a lot of fun humor. It was really fast-paced and I could have read it in just one sitting if I had set aside enough time when I first started it. I definitely plan to continue the series, and I can’t wait to continue Tansy’s story.

Thank you so much to Entangled Teen for sending me an e-ARC and a physical copy of The Afterlife of the Party to read and review.

For starters, I enjoyed the heck out of this book. It was a super fast and enjoyable read and I liked the light, road trippy nature of the story. It did feel a little campy and cheesy at times but I found myself flying though it because I was really enjoying the banter between the characters. I’m looking forward to checking out some other titles by this author, and I’m thrilled vampires are back in YA!

I was very excited to read this book because I loved the Dead Is series.

Sadly I am giving up on the book. I tried to but gave up around 18% in . But it just didn't work out. Even in such a short time I felt like the plot was all over the place. It was way too cheesy! The characters were very annoying, the teenagers felt more like 13 year olds.

I recommend this one for younger teens.

Solid 4.5 stars for me. This is a crazy switch from “Dead Is..” and I’m here for it.

Tansy is a great character. She is devoted to doing the right thing, family, and friends. She’s very determined and quick in her toes. I quite frankly love her in this book.

Vaughn is also a great character. He’s super supportive and protective of his friends. He’s also a bit shy, which is too cute.

Tansy and Vaughn together is decent. I wish they had more uncrazy time, but obviously they have a lot going on. I loved the intimate atmosphere moments.

Skyler.. she has a small attitude but I wish there was a little bit more to her as a character.

The other supporting characters were also decent, but a tiny bit flat. Which is fine, because there’s so many people.

The plot was paced amazingly. I got confused a few times by major switches of the surround situations. It reminded me of a person that gets sidetracked. Thankfully, there was only a few tiny moments that confused me. The biggest one has to do with brownies. (So if you want to know, check it out)

I cannot wait for the next book! This was a mix of cute, creepy, romantic, and gory. It all balanced out very well and in a light tone.

I thought this was overall a pretty good YA book, and a little different than the normal YA vampire books I have read previously. I would rate this book overall a 3.5. The only reason is that sometimes I found myself to be a little bored with the plot and found some things to be a little cliche. However, the overall concept was unique.

This was a fun distraction from my sleepless nights! I'm not usually a fantasy fan, but for some reason I always enjoy YA books about vampires. If snarky MCs and road trips to catch a vampire are your thing, check this one out!
