I really liked this book; over 4 stars but not quite 5. The "not quite" is because it felt like Richard's seething about Stanley was a bit over the top in the first half of the book, pretty much hatred, which didn't quite mesh - it was just a tad too harsh for his flawed but likeable character.

But other than that, thumbs up! It was a fun story - perhaps trying a bit too hard to make the female lead "strong", but I get that some overcompensation is needed for female characters to be normalized as the hero. And hero she was!

I ended up staying up too late to finish this book, which is my yardstick of a good read. I'll read the next books in the series, for sure.

Richard just wants his prune juice, now and every day, to keep his systems running as smoothly as can be expected. Stanley wants to dance with a Devil and kill a monster. I am not sure what Burke wants but she gets a whole lot more than what she bargained for when she promised her mother, she would find her grandfather and take care of him.

Quirky, Quirky, Quirky. Slightly hilarious, this first installment of Monsters and Mayhem is ever so much fun. Just a wee hair shy of 5 stars but when something is this entertaining, shoot the moon. Thank you NetGalley and Scarsdale Publishing for a copy.

Richard was at a extended care home in Michigan when he is rescued from a nasty monster posing as a nurse by his nemesis across the hall - Stanley. After some male bonding, they decided to go on a road trip to Tombstone (AZ) to knockoff the monster that had killed Richard's wife many, many years ago. Stanley, it turns out, is a very long lived monster hunter. Of course they take the scenic route to knock off a few monsters, end up in the hospital and have to be rescued by Richard's granddaughter who joined them on their quest. Will they succeed? And will Richard ever get his prune juice? Do read and enjoy the adventures and misadventures of this odd band of monster hunters! Why should the young 'uns have all the fun?

Thanks Netgalley for the opportunity to read this title!

Some monsters never die

I was given a copy of this book for review.

Being a senior citizen myself, the cover and description had my attention. I could easily relate to Richard, walker, and aches, as he tries to keep up with Stanley, the senior citizen hunter. The humor used here within made all the characters more alive and I found myself chuckling too.

The story is well-paced with action and kept the story moving along.
later in the story, we meet the Devil with a surprise that I had not read before. This reference surprised me, to be honest. The dialog between Richard and his daughter was very funny and I deeply enjoyed it.

This is a book worth reading and I look forward to reading them as they are published.
