Hit Me With Your Best Scot by Suzanne Enoch is the last in the McTaggert Brothers series and is another fun historical romance following their antics as they try to find brides in England as required by their English mother's edict. With his two younger brothers wed or getting wed, Coll McTaggert is down to having three weeks to find a bride before his youngest sibling, his sister weds. If he doesn't, his family will lose his mother's inheritance, which is what supports their lands and tenants in the Highlands of Scotland. However, Coll doesn't want to marry a young, simpering debutante, he wants to marry for love, as his brothers did.

Coll does find his love, a beautiful actess named Persephone Jones, however she's not an acceptable wife for a Laird. However, he announces his intention to marry her, just to make his mother crazy. He does take her under his protection, as it appears someone is trying to kill her. But will being close to her, trying to protect her kill him?

I found this novel, as I did the other two to be very entertaining and enjoyable. Thank you to the author, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest opinion.

It breaks my heart to give this review as I am Suzanne's biggest fan. Hit me with your Best Scot is a boring predictable romance with no magic, charm or sexual tension. The book is all about Coll McTaggart finding a bride and marrying her within a month to secure the financial fate of the McTaggart family estate in Scotland. Coll tired of his mother's manipulations wanders backstage of the theatre and meets Mrs Persphone Jones and actress of great success and enormous charm. From there on we know for Coll to achieve his happy ever after Persphone must be more than an actress. The first half of the book drags on until "gasp, shock horror, Persephone is much more than an actress. In the meantime, a week murder plot is introduced and the revelation of who the murder is not believable and silly.

If the editors of the book want this story to sell then serious editing and tension needs to be added to the first 50% of the book. We need a lot less of Colls family and Persphone staff and a whole lot more attachment. A thinly disguised plot to protect Persephone as a means of attachment is simply not enough to develop a romance against the odds. I suspect Suzanne loved Aden and Niall's story and ran out of energy for Coll's story. So loving Shakespeare as Suzanne does she throws in The Scottish play and loads of quotes. Finally, I plead with the author to leave Scotland and return to London Regency times and return to writing the stories we loved from her, Englands Perfect hero The Rake etc.

This book was cleverly written and has humor and a touch of mystery. The hero is a giant Scot who is trying to fit in society and find a wife. He comes across the heroine who has a double life. She is of nobility but chose to be an actress. I did not appreciate the part where decided to lose her virginity casually because she had to lose it anyway which for me was not in line with her character as it was depicted. Anyway, the romance was okay and had its hot moments.

I requested this book via NetGalley and was thankfully granted my request. My reviews are my own though.

A nice ending to this family of brother’s series. Coll MacTaggert is the last of the brothers being forced by their mother to marry an English lady or lose his inheritance. Persephone Jones is an actress who meets Coll when he rescues her and declares himself her protector.

Well-written, sizzling chemistry between Persephone and Coll and enjoyed the banter between this pair.

I received an advance reader copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

So, I absolutely loved this book and these characters! Overall, this whole series is great, but there is an ongoing subplot that drove me nuts. I ranted about it on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/Tween2TeenBooks/status/1316938688924950529

In short, the mom left her three sons in Scotland when they were kids, taking their infant baby sister with her. They haven't seen their mom or their sister in seventeen years, and now the mom expects her sons to marry in like eight weeks before their sister gets married. If they don't get married, she will cut off access to the funds that run their estate and that takes care of their tenants. So, bit of a jerk move. This was definitely on both parents, but the mom is the one who left and didn't come back, mostly because she didn't like living in Scotland. It's revealed that the dad also did some jerk stuff that made the situation worse, so I'm really just frustrated with both parents. And they need to do some serious apologizes that had better continue beyond the series.

THAT SAID! That is not the whole of the book. It is a subplot that highly annoys me and motivates the action, but it's not the main characters. Coll and Persephone are amazing. I really like how they grew together and found love. They both like each other right off the bat, and grow to more-than-like each other with time. If this book had been just that romance without the subplot, it would have been perfect. As is, I'm still giving it five stars because I liked Coll and Persephone so much.

I enjoyed getting to know Coll and Mrs. Jones in depth in Suzanne Enoch's 'Hit Me With Your Best Scot'. There were elements of intrigue coupled with family issues that were completely engaging. I skipped over the steamy parts. I think they detract from the otherwise delightful story. I'm going to go back and read the stories of the first two brothers in this trilogy as the characters are entirely likable.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Lighthearted read. Group of enormous hunky Scots hit London, seeking brides on the instruction of their mother. This is the tale of the third brother. Good fun.

Coll MacTaggert is the last of the three brothers who is being forced to marry a proper Englishwoman or lose out of his inheritance. Buy he refuses to be dictated to and is adamant about finding his own bride. It was after storming out of another play after another ambush from his mother, he had a run in with Persephone Jones, the well known actress of the very play he ran out of. After rescuing Persephone from an uncomfortable altercation, and after a few deadly mishaps, Coll declares himself as her new protector. While Coll will continue in his search for a wife, he is also determined to keep Persephone safe. As they spend more time with each other and the clock ticking, Persephone decides to aid Coll with his search for the perfect wife. But as the days go by, Coll’s fascination with Persephone continues to grow and he starts to question who Persephone Jones really is. His heart is getting involved and when he finally learns the truth, he was no longer willing to let her go.

Even though this is the third book in this series, I did not have any difficulty following along. There were some references of scenes that happened in the prior books but did not take away from Coll’s story. Overall, I did enjoy this book, the banter between Coll and Persephone was great, and the chemistry was strong. I also loved how Persephone was able to take care of herself, she was definitely a woman of strength.

Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for giving me the opportunity to read this complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.

Of course Coll wouldn't find a bride thru the conventional way. I love his meeting with Persephone and their entire journey was great. His love and admiration of Persephone was so evident. The heroine story was also very admirable, she created a safe space for herself and found a way to be successful. The story unfolded in a beautiful manner. There were a few things that were left incomplete like what exactly happened to the villain.

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Coll MacTaggert was not interested in getting married like his brothers, but that did not stop his mom from bringing ladies over for him to meet. Persephone had no intention of getting married until she was rescued
by Coll. Persephone has been in hiding because they are individuals who would kill for her inheritance. I enjoyed the chemistry that developed between Coll and Persephone.
