Will they find a truce to work together to rescue the kids disappearing...

Having read none of the books from the mother’s series, everyone was new to me.
Deacon is a man so easy to like and love. He might be hiding the scars of his youth, he has a heart of gold, making good in his own way. He might have few, still he is generous and listen to the plights of the weaker.
Grace is a fierce to be reckoned but she acts before thinking, not really reflecting about the weight of her actions. It is easy to target Deacon when he is kinder than the other saloon’s owners. And when she digs a bit in the past, even having not read her parents story, it was easy to see where it would lead, yet she is surprised.
Thankfully she matures along the page, she opens her eyes to the world surrounding her.
This period is harsh for the weak and poor, and worse for those with no rights nor power to fight back.
And while she has no real authority , she still has the power entitled behind her family’s name and the force she can put in her words if she is committed to make light on the evils of everyday’s life.
She will learn to not believe everything on face’s value. With Deacon, she will make assumptions to be proved wrong. It will open her eyes to see past someone’s appearance to explore their heart. And Deacon’s is at the right place, filed with dreams, hopes and past heartaches. He does not lie nor cheat, he is a man who stands for justice and reach out to those in need like young Izzie, Joel, Simon and all the others.

The author offers us a complex tale with flawed three dimensional characters and the events which will bind them together.

Grace is a crusader for social justice and temperance and Deacon owns a saloon. She's determined to shut him down and uses both physical acton and her writing to argue her point. He's just, well, at a loss because he won the saloon and now wants to make a living with it. You know that they will somehow resolve their differences but how? Turns out they both care about children, especially those who have been orphaned and pressed into service. Izzie one of the homeless kids, becomes a talisman for them. This has a lot going on but the threats do pull together. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. The characters and some unique plot elements make this a good read for fans of the genre.

This is another hit for the talented Ms Broday who writes western romance like nobody's business. She has swept the reader in a fantastic story of enemies to lovers. I like the story of the Legend folks and how the family life continues. This one is about Grace Legend and her way to break out on her own. She is for women's rights and fighting for the removal of alcohol that is destroying families. Her best friend was killed by her drunken husband. Her quest is to get the men off the drink and back home. But Grace never figured how one man would take her style of protesting. Deacon Brannock won a saloon in a poker game and wants it to be a success.. That's his dram of saving enough money to get him a ranch to call home. He is attracted to the prickly Grace, but all she can do is be mad at him for running his saloon.
I really like how they both compromised when danger hit the town 's abandoned children and trying to rescue them from evil people. I also like Grace and her courage to go after what she wants. Deacon is also a loner who desires Grace, and the life he wants for both of them. Fate has a strange kinda hold and the key is love.
I appreciate Net Galley for this ARC title in which I gave an honest review.

First time reading a book by this author. I really liked the main idea although  I think it  lacked in the execution. We have two protagonists who are on opposite sides, he owns a bar that sells alcohol and she is part of a movement that wants to eradicate the sale of alcoholic drinks. I found the approach interesting. Historical data makes story richer and I learned a few historical facts  that I didn't even know, BUT I needed MORE. The heroine seemed very immature and one-dimensional at times, the immature thing made sense because she was only 20 years old but it was hard for me to believe  the romance between the two. It seemed all quite flat to be honest, it is a promising story but I think it lacked complexity.

A Cowboy of Legend by Linda Broday is the first book in her new Lone Star Legends series. When it comes to historical westerns, I always love reading Linda Broday, as she always gives us wonderful stories, great characters and continues to make us fall in love with the couples in her western historical romances.

Deacon Brannock, our hero, runs a saloon, and barely makes ends meet, as well as being a man to reckon with. He is a cowboy at heart, and unknown to many, he takes in strays who are suffering hardships. We meet Leah, who is pregnant, and hiding from her abusive husband; and a young orphaned boy named Izzy, who lives outside in dangerous territory, trusting only Deacon. Deacon is determined to save enough money to buy his dream ranch with horses. Then he meets Grace Legend, a woman who stands up for women and children, and decides she needs to stop Deacon from offering liquor to the men who treat their woman as trash.

Grace Legend, our heroine, is involved in a movement to defend women’s rights, especially as she watched her best friend beaten to death by an abusive drunk husband. She is a fierce voice, and makes things difficult for Deacon, since she feels he is one of those bad men. After another attempt with the ladies, Grace realizes they overstepped and ruined a number things inside the saloon. When she is arrested (even though she did not do anything, except being the lone women standing), her father visits her to try to get her out of jail, and makes an agreement with Deacon to make her fix up his place and free her.

Grace accepts and in a short time, she begins to meet some people like Leah, Izzie, Harry, and knows quickly that Deacon is not like those other men. He is kind and behind the scenes he goes out of his way to help others in need. They do butt heads occasionally, as the sparks fly. Soon they will find themselves falling for each other, as they learn about their true self.

What follows is an exciting story with nonstop action, heart stopping dangerous situations and a sweet romance between two people that we could not help falling in love with. Along the way secrets are revealed for both Grace and Deacon, bringing them even closer together. I really loved Deacon and Grace together, as they made a fantastic couple; which was a pleasure to watch them realize that they have met their ultimate love. There was some humorous fun at times, especially when the saloon added food, and shows. I loved the monkey, Jesse James; Sarge, the protective cat, and enjoyed Deacon training a wild mustang, Diablo. Broday once again gives us great secondary characters, with a few of the women to help, especially Leah, and the boys they save. The last half of the story has Deacon and Grace joining together to find the missing orphan boys, and save them.

Linda Broday once again gives us another wonderful new series revolving around the fabulous western historical series. A Cowboy Of Legend was one wonderful emotional heartwarming story, with a fabulous couple, great characters as well as exciting and suspenseful. I strong suggest you read A Cowboy of Legend.

Grace won't stop until she's gotten the answers that will open her own Pandora's box. Nothing good ever comes from that.
Deacon is very kind and helpful. Together they make a great pair.

I enjoyed this book. I love the character development. I love both main characters fight for the same cause and in different ways/methods. Very first time reading a novel by Linda Broday and I must say I am absolutely looking forward to reading the second book in this series.

This was my first cowboy romance and I really liked it! I didn't know what to expect but it was really good.

Another great Western Historical Romance by Linda Broday. A Cowboy of Legend is Grace's story, she is the daughter of Houston and Lara from The Heart of a Texas Cowboy. Grace was a bit of a snob in the beginning of the story. I honestly didn't like her that much, and definitely didn't agree with her methods of imposing her views on others. She didn't hold back in trying to achieve those goals. In a way I also admired her determination, and started to warm up to her further I got in the story. She was a strong and independent young lady, and I can imagine her wanting to change how people viewed women in that time period.

Deacon Brannock is the hero in this book and I loved his character. He was a bit mysterious but a very courageous man who didn't let the bad guys get away with hurting people. He was very protective and did his best to take care of people who needed help. When Grace and Brannock first meet there isn't any love lost between them. There was a bit of an enemies-to-lovers trope going on, and I loved the banter between the two. Grace finally found someone who was able to go head to head with her.

There are no dull moments in this book in my opinion. Were there moments it was a bit slow, yes but it just fits the time period perfectly in my opinion. Things just move more slowly in the old west, and the author was able to keep my attention until the end. Her characters are always very likable and original. She also adds the perfect amount of romance, suspense, action, humor, and heartbreak. Everything comes together perfectly and results into a beautiful, funny, and emotional historical romance. I already look forward to Linda Broday's next book.

A Cowboy of Legend by Lisa Broday is a well-crafted and layered story with dynamic characters and an immersive and epic plot. The story focuses on the budding romance between saloon owner Deacon and anti-saloon advocate Grace. When these two opposites collide, neither is prepared for the sparks that fly. Grace is fighting for the closure of all saloons, deeming them the culprit for man’s deplorable alcohol-induced behavior. As a saloon owner, Deacon is furious with Grace and her friends. Their protests threaten his livelihood and his future dreams.

Grace is a vibrant and passionate social warrior who refuses to bend from her convictions. She sees the injustices of society and fights for better. She marches and protests with other women to defend the rights of women, children, and the underprivileged. Speaking on behalf of those who can’t speak for themselves, Grace also uses her position as a newspaper reporter to bring the issues she’s passionate about to a wider audience. One issue she investigates revolves around the mystery behind the dozens of missing children in town. She also tries to learn more about the mystery surrounding the kidnapping she experienced when she was a child.

Grace is a woman who wants to invoke change, and she won’t let anything, or anyone, stand in her way. However, her unrelenting attitude sometimes misguides her, and she finds herself in trouble more than once. Undeterred, Grace persists. I love Grace’s determination and gumption. She brings up a lot of issues that were prevalent during the turn of the century, especially issues related to women’s rights. Grace feels she should be treated equally to her brothers and men in general, and her voice is strong. As much as these qualities frustrate Deacon, they also appeal to him, and some of the best scenes occur when these opposites challenge each other.

Though they are quite different, Grace and Deacon have many similarities. They are both generous with their time, money, and care, they both have questions about their past, and they both live with secrets. Grace and Deacon also both fight for the rights of women and children, they just go about it in different ways. They also both experience prejudice, but again in different ways. Deacon struggles to escape the sins of his past, and he is often judged by the violent rumors that surround him. Grace is the constant victim of sexism even in her own family. The more Grace and Deacon learn about each other, the more they understand and like each other, and their chemistry is immense.

Like Grace, Deacon takes on many responsibilities. Deacon is a saloon owner who is protecting a friend from her abusive husband. He also takes a job taming a wild mustang and works with the horse on his time off. Though he has the saloon, Deacon really wants to own his own land. A cowboy at heart, Deacon is biding his time and saving his money until he can afford his own farm. He is a hard worker who has had an unfair and difficult life, and Grace complicates matters in more ways than one.

The romance between Grace and Deacon is fantastic! A slow-burning enemies-to-lovers romance, these opposites have a swoon-worthy love story. They butt heads all of the time, and they challenge each other more often than not. Some of the best scenes are the scenes where they verbally spar. They have a begrudging respect for each other that turns into something more, and once they admit their feelings, the sparks really fly!

Grace and Deacon have amazing chemistry, and I loved how their story developed. Of course, the relationship doesn’t come without its obstacles. Deacon doesn’t feel worthy of Grace’s love. She comes from a reputable and wealthy family, and he doesn’t. He doesn’t feel he has a lot to offer Grace, and he’s hiding many secrets. Grace hesitates to trust Deacon and resists her attraction to this enigmatic man. I love how they slowly realize that their feelings have changed and how they come together.

Other characters are equally interesting, and I can’t wait to learn more about them in future books. Harry, the quiet and tortured barkeep, is one of my favorites. His past is shrouded in mystery with only little glimpses into his life. I want to know more about this reserved man and what haunts him. Leah, the young woman who Deacon helped, Izzy, and Grace’s brother are other characters whose stories I’m hoping to see in the series. They are all so interesting and unique and vibrant, and I’m hoping to see their stories continue.

The mystery behind the missing boys of the city is also quite intriguing. When Izzy, a young boy that Grace and Deacon both care for, goes missing, Grace and Deacon work together to figure out what happened to him. This part of the story is fascinating, dangerous, and sinister and makes for some action-packed and heart-pounding scenes.

I loved this story and think it will appeal to readers who enjoy immersive historical romances set in America during the turn of the century. Broday has crafted a wonderful novel with well-developed characters, great messages, a captivating story-line, and a swoon-tastic love story. Thanks so much to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and Linda Broday for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Over 4 years ago Linda embarked on a journey with a new family. The Legend’s became such a memorable series, as well as becoming a part of her fan’s own family.
Linda is returning to The LoneStar Ranch and bringing us The next generation of Legend’s.

Gracie Legend wants her freedom same as her younger brothers. Being A Legend has its advantages, but also some disadvantages, especially when a young woman wants to make it on her own.
Writing articles for the paper, being involved in the Temperance Movement, and trying to get ahead in her own right, but will it be enough to satisfy her thirst for independence?

Deacon Brannock, a Cowboy by heart, just won a saloon in a poker hand. All Deacon has ever wanted was a piece of land to call home, build a future ranching, and a past to forget.

As the Temperance movement marches down through Hell’s Half Acre, Gracie and Deacon are about to butt heads. As sparks fly, words spoken, and tempers rising, will they ever see eye to eye?

Izzy, an orphan on the streets learns fast and hard how to survive and find work, although often harassed by not only the adults, but ornery kids.
When orphans start coming up missing, will Izzy become a victim?

This book has so many storylines that all tie together.
A Cowboy Legend was one beautiful story which will pull at your heartstrings, if it doesn’t, then a heart, you do not possess.
Congrats to Ms. broday for continuing to write such amazing books with new and explosive adventures in every storyline.

I am a serious sucker for historical westerns. This one is set at the turn of the century which is even better than post-civil war books. I did not read the series that started this one off - but I still really enjoyed this one and don't think you needed to read the prequel series to enjoy it! Grace is a woman ahead of her time. She is progressive - and if she had social media she would definitely post memes like "If you aren't outraged, you aren't paying attention!" and "Well behaved women rarely make history." You go Grace! I admire your fire and dedication to making a difference. Her current passion project is protesting the sale of alcohol. She believes it is corrupting men and destroying families. She is determined to make a difference with a group of women leading the crusade in Fort Worth. As part of that she tangles with Deacon - who won his saloon in a card game and is trying to use it to make his dreams of owning property come true.

Deacon is a cowboy at heart - but the saloon is a way for him to get where he wants to be. In the meantime - he keeps taking in people and helping them in any way he can. That eventually includes Grace - and they end up helping each other as much as they initially spark off each other.

This story is an epic one - it covers a lot of ground - and goes well beyond the love story of Grace and Deacon. Even after Grace and Deacon are clearly committed to each other - the story doesn't leave us hanging and finds a happy ending for everyone.

Overall, this is a good story with really strong characters. There are some unexpected content that might need a warning for some readers <spoiler> rape (and pregnancy due to rape), child and spousal abuse, alcoholism, and loss of parents).

I was lucky to receive this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.

It’s an interesting set up when the two main characters are antagonists. She is a social crusader and he is a bar owner. I thought Grace was a little too much of a do gooder at first, but she grew on me. I liked Deacon and his ambition. The sparks flew Insta fly between the two. I liked the banter between them. The time frame was an interesting choice, turn of the century, during the Progressive era. I love reading western romances and this one was a good read.

A Cowboy of Legend

Who doesn’t love returning home to the roots of the Lone Star Ranch where Stoker Legend and his sons built an expansive cattle empire. Houston, and his wife, Lara share Grace’s story in this book.

Secrets. Secrets. Secrets. Secrets unravel and are weaved into the storyline to the very last chapter. Incredible secrets. Painful secrets.
Grace, deeply involved in the Temperance Movement marches to defend women’s rights for free speech, eliminating the evils of alcohol which is causing abuse of women and children suffering from the evils of drink. Grace is a fierce voice for hungry kids and wives bearing scars of abuse. She is full of grit and sass. She defends her writing career under the pen name Sam Valentine, exploiting the affects the Temperance Movement marching for women’s rights. She meets her match in a Deacon Brannock, owner of the Three Deuces Saloon.

Deacon Brannock has secrets of his own. As a saloon owner, he does not take lightly to the Temperance women trying to shut down his saloon and ruin his business. He is a man, a cowboy, horse trainer, quick with a gun, able to defend his lot. He bares hurtful secrets, but carries a very soft heart due to his upbringing. But can he forget the feisty Grace Legend! He finds Grace is able to unlock the doors of his heart if they can quit being enemies long enough. As the book unfolds, your heart is swept away by the secrets which evolve, and are confessed in honest moments of discovering love.

Deacon and Grace take up the fight to save orphans who are being abducted and made to live in a coal mine under deplorable circumstances. They adore Izzy whose story grips your heart. This fight is riveting, dangerous, agonizing and yet Deacon and Grace defend their stand to bring the orphans home. It is exciting and nail biting to the end. Their love conquers. They learn to trust each other.

There is not a dull moment in the book. Finding true identity and unveiling secrets continues to the very end of the book unraveling one secret after another in a gripping love story. Well done Linda Broday.
