Alfred Blakesley, the Duke of Lowell is a wolf shifter looking for his mate. An alpha male who has been searching for years across the world, Alfred is stunned to find her in a ballroom near his home. He also realizes that his mate is human and knows nothing about shifters, but he won’t be deterred.

In the hopes of convincing Felicity Templeton that he is her future, Alfred kidnaps her and attempts to woo her. Poor Alfred! Not only does he have to hide his shifter world from Felicity, but he’s also clueless when it comes to courting a human woman! This part of the story reminded me so much of Beauty and the Beast. Alfred, much like the beast, is eager to please but bumbling and awkward in his execution. It made for some humorous and endearing scenes.

I like Felicity’s character and her determination to have some independence. Her involvement in the horse trade is unique for the time period and something that connects her to her deceased mother and is an interesting part of the story. Felicity has a way with animals, which is good considering she’s mated to a wolf shifter!

Knowing that she must remain single until she can claim her inheritance, Felicity purposely makes herself less attractive and avoids potential suitors as much as she can. Hiding behind plants, avoiding eye contact, and wearing unflattering clothing are just some of the clever ways she stays out of the spotlight, much to her uncle and cousins’ irritation. Felicity is strong-willed and feisty, and I like that she challenges Alfred, who is a bit stubborn at times.

The chemistry between Felicity and Alfred is strong, and it is clear that they are attracted to each other from their very first dance. Some of my favorite scenes are when Felicity talks to Alfred while he is in wolf form. It is then that Felicity lets her guard down, and Alfred gets to really understand her. These are touching moments in their love story.

I do wish that Felicity had a bit more choice in her future, and this got in the way of the romance for me at times. It feels like, though Felicity does everything she can to maintain a modicum of independence, the men in her life, especially her uncle and cousins, continually take that from her. Even Alfred, who had good intentions, takes her freedom of choice away when he kidnaps her and thus tarnishes her reputation. Though Alfred is driven by the mating call, it’s a selfish way to start a relationship.

Overall, this is a good story with romance, mystery, supernatural elements, and vicious antagonists. I liked reading about the growing relationship between Felicity and Alfred and how Felicity slowly learns about Alfred and the shifter world that he leads. I also like that the story twines Regency and paranormal romance, though I did feel that it was a bit unevenly paced. Thanks so much to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and the author for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Felicity Templeton is an orphan and was raised by an uncaring uncle along with two now, rather uppity male cousins. If she can just last 2 more weeks unmarried she will get some funds from her parent's estate to run a stable of her mother's horses, highly unusual in 19th century England. Shapeshifter Alfred Blakesley, Duke of Lowell, must marry a human to add to his bloodline and it has to be his true love, which he and his wolf-half will recognize. He has traveled Europe looking, but it is at a ball after he comes home to England that he sniffs out Felicity. She had been hiding behind some plants to avoid her uncles matchmaking, but Alfred insists they dance. They both feel an attraction but Felicity is not pleased when he and his right hands, kidnap her. There is humor in the story as he has little knowledge of wooing a human and the various shapeshifters try to help him. However, Felicity wants her inheritance, so is set on resisting but is still kind to his servants/pack. The author does show how little choice women had at the time, but the kidnapping kept me from four stars..

Regency romance and shapeshifting magic, the story follows Duke of Lowell ( a werewolf shifter) and his search for his mate, Lady Felicity Templeton. Lowell would love nothing more than to marry Felicity, except she is determined to remain unmarried. Felicity wants to remain unmarried so that she can meet her inheritance and get it by the time she is 25, too bad the Duke of Lowell has other plans. Throw in some kidnapping, mystery, and secrets and this is what you get. The story is okay but the chemistry was a bit lacking for me. Overall, it was an okay read but it just didn’t meet my expectations.

Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Unfortunately I could not get into this paranormal historical romance. The Duke is intense in his pursuit of Felicity, his mate. He knownly ruins her reputation in order to convince her to marry him. She resist his pursuit but gives in eventually. Im not a fan of this type of romance. I much prefer for the heroine to be able to choose her own path.

Alfred Blakesley, Duke of Lowell has spent the last five years searching the world for the one woman to be his Duchess. The reason it's so difficult is because he's a Shape shifter and needs his true mate. His only hope now is a human woman, so it's the society balls of the ton he must attend.

Felicity Templeton is forced by her uncle and cousins to attend society events in the hope of finding her a husband , but hiding behind the potted plants and wearing unflattering gowns has saved her so far.

Our heroine has her life without a husband all planned out, and just a few more days before she can claim it.

Our hero is a typical Alfa Wolf and will let nothing or no-one stand in his way.

This is the first book in a new historical/paranormal romance and I'm already addicted. The "Pack" is full of fabulous characters. I had fun trying to guess what each one was in it's other skin. The story is so much fun, I can't wait to read the next one.

The start of this books really grabs you. I was not expecting how things started off. Both of the lead characters are at a ball, she's a wallflower, he smells her and bam it takes off from there. The story kind of bogs down in the middle and picks up again at the end. It takes a while for Alfred to let Felicity in on the big secret. If this had come out earlier the pacing of the book would have been better. The supporting characters were well written and interesting. I would definitely be interested in reading more books if this turns into a series.

A novel about a wolf shift who is seeking his mate, but is surprised to discover she is a human? How will see adapt to the pack's ways? When Alfred discovers Felicity is his mate, he decides to make hid presence know and take her to him home. Felicity has no plans to marry, for she wants to continue raising horses like her mother and escape from her family. Her uncle is devious and has lied to her many times. A woman is this time does not have any control over her life, but Felicity does her best to control her own fate. Meeting Alfred changed everything, but will learning about the secrets he has change her mind about his proposal?
I received this novel from net galley and the publisher as an ARC. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
