A very comprehensive introduction to Intermittent Fasting; covers all the basics in a very-maybe too-comprehensive manner. Could be condensed substantially, but covers everything needed.

Great book for everyone just starting, or looking to start, on the intermittent fasting journey. For me, the best parts of the book were the ones that talked in depth about the different types of intermittent fasting and the science and the why behind intermittent fasting, as well as tips and tools to maintain an intermittent fasting lifestyle (which should not be seen as a diet or food deprivation). The book also covers other (very) basic topics of eating (such as how calories work vis-a-vis weight loss, and common health risks associated with being overweight), but these were not so helpful because the author only skims through these and it doesn't directly relate to IF; the assumption should be that if you're reading this book, you're already fairly health conscious and more interested in the ins and outs of IF rather than other health topics. Nonetheless, I had been practicing IF for about 2 months before reading this book, and definitely plan on continuing, taking into account some of the tips that I learned from this book!

Intermittent Fasting For Dummies is a brilliant starting point to equip yourself with information before embarking on an intermittent fasting plan. I have already being using IF for a couple of years and I found this book gave me a reminder about the health benefits. It also told me a bit I didn't know which was good. I don't do it to lose weight but to allow my body time and space to work on other processes and repair. Combining it with a full fitness and weight training program has been brilliant. I liked the format of this book because you can go directly to sections you need. It is an easy read with just the right amount of science and technical information. Whatever your reason for giving it a try you will find everything you need to give it a go in these pages. Personally I think it is a brilliant tool, and I don't know anyone who hasn't found it hugely beneficial. As a previous grazer (I probably didn't eat too much but nibbled throughout the day), I thought I would find it too hard to do, but have been amazed by how easy it has been and how good it feels. The amount of mental clarity you will get from it is a huge bonus. This book is the perfect starting point for gleaning all the information you need to choose the most suitable fasting program for you, and then doing it safely. The author is very clear on who shouldn't give it a try. There are bonus recipes and the author even gives you helpful hints on organising your kitchen, freezer and shopping habits. Brilliant starting point, great book. Thank you.

Dr. Brill starts out by explaining the different types of fasting. Next, she goes over the information needed to use this plan to lose weight, including calculating ideal weight, calories, and BMI. If a reader is more interested in the health aspect, as I was, he/she is advised to skip ahead. According to studies, intermittent fasting can dramatically affect health, cells, and hormones. The author eschews the popular keto diet, declaring it inappropriate to combine with intermediate fasting, and touting instead the Mediterranean eating plan. Dr. Brill also goes over some basic nutrition facts, and includes recipes. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC.
