Cute enemies/coworkers to lovers story. It was charming and sweet and the cats clothings was so freaking cute and funny!

Brinkley Saunders broke her mother’s heart when she dropped out of grad school. What her doesn’t know is Brinkley abandoned academia to get into the literal business of breaking hearts.
Taking a job with the undercover company Heartbreak for Hire was never part of Brinkley’s career plan. But after having her own heart trampled on by her former boyfriend, Brinkley not so secretly relished the idea of being a part of something that makes guys like these squirm.
A female run operation, Heartbreak For Hire employs scorned women who work in different departments, all dedicated to varying levels of getting even. Brinkley doesn’t plan to work there forever. She just intends to work there long enough to bank some cash to pursue her dream of opening her own art gallery one day.
One night while out on a job she encounters, Mark, a target who doesn’t seem to match up with the usual sleaze balls stereotype. Despite her best judgment, Brinkley finds herself letting her guard down and fraternizing with the so called enemy. Knowing it’s wrong to mix business with pleasure leaves Brinkley feeling nothing but remorse. Still, she vows to never do it again. Then Mark is hired as part of the new male heartbreak division, ironically working under Brinkley directly. Now Brinkley has a decision to make, or she might be the one left holding the pieces.
Heartbreak for Hire has a fresh take on the romance game. The agency idea gave me Charlie’s Angel’s vibes and I could have totally see this working as a series, each installment dedicated to a different heartbreaker. Where things went wrong, however, was mixing in the male heartbreakers. The storyline excuse for this was flimsy at best. If Brinkley had instead, just fallen for her mark, I think that would have made the second half of the story seem less far fetched, and far more believable.

There were a lot of things I liked about this book (characterization, dialogue) but there was a squishy factor of scamming people I had a hard time getting past.

"Brinkley Saunders has a secret.
To everyone in the academic world she left behind, she lost it all when she dropped out of grad school. Once a rising star following in her mother’s footsteps, she’s now an administrative assistant at an insurance agency—or so they think.
In reality, Brinkley works at Heartbreak for Hire, a secret service that specializes in revenge for jilted lovers, frenemies, and long-suffering coworkers with a little cash to spare and a man who needs to be taken down a notch. It might not be as prestigious as academia, but it helps Brinkley save for her dream of opening an art gallery and lets her exorcise a few demons, all while helping to empower women.
But when her boss announces she’s hiring male heartbreakers for the first time, Brinkley’s no longer so sure she’s doing the right thing—especially when her new coworker turns out to be a target she was paid to take down. Though Mark spends his days struggling up the academic ladder, he seems to be the opposite of a backstabbing adjunct: a nerd at heart in criminally sexy sweater vests who’s attentive both in and out of the bedroom. But as Brinkley finds it increasingly more difficult to focus on anything but Mark, she soon realizes that like herself, people aren’t always who they appear to be."
A very original enemies to lovers rom com. Expected twists and a few questionable plot points. But overall, an enjoyable read. A revenge business? Yes please. Missed hijinks made me sad.

I am sorry for the inconvenience but I don’t have the time to read this anymore and have lost interest in the concept. I believe that it would benefit your book more if I did not skim your book and write a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for the inconvenience.

If you’re a fan of steamy rom coms, banter, and great chemistry between two characters, I highly recommend you check this book out!

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. A cute romance novel. Great weekend read.

I really wanted to love HEARTBREAK FOR HIRE because it was compared to one of my favorite rom-coms, The Hating Game, but I just wasn't feeling this one. I love a good enemies-to-lovers story but the revenge plot isn't my favorite. I thought the story was just "ok." I'm glad I read it but unfortunately it was not my favorite.
Rating: 2.5 stars (rounded up to 3).
Thank you, NetGalley and Gallery Books, for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

This is one of my first books by Sonia Hartl. I love the concept of a heartbreaker for hire. This is so different from what is out there right now. I love the character. As a person that has struggled in the academic world. I really enjoyed this book. I laughed and cried. Love these two.

I really enjoyed this book! It was unique in plot, funny, and utterly romantic!
The two main characters, Brinkley and Mark, were fun, entertaining, and well-suited for this unique plot. They had an enemies-to-lovers trope that played well into Brinkley being highly unhappy at welcoming males into the organization. I also really enjoyed watching Brinkley's misconceptions about Mark change and morph over time.
There is a nice conversation and side plot on a few workplace themes. I wish there could have been a bit more of a blend of workplace themes with the rest of the plot. Things could have been meshed together in general, but I wasn't mad about it. I also wish we could have had a deeper dive into some of the more important things in the book, mostly those workplace ones.
Overall, this book was nice but not my favorite book ever. I'm happy with the uniqueness from the plot, but felt like it failed to get to the heart of things.

I love a revenge plot, so the premise of this was very much my thing. This is a fast read -- a fun, engaging page-turner with lovable characters and a good story. All around, super fun!

So the first thing I loved about this book was the title. Second thing I loved about it is the cover. Love love love.
Now to the substance:
This is a fast paced, slow burn, enemies to lovers romance that I really liked.
Brinkley has an unconventional job that’s secret from her family members. In reality she gets paid to crush the egos of men.
She likes her job and there’s a point in her seeking revenge this way but she meets gorgeous Mark. Mark who wears vests, and is smart, blushes and growls sometimes… and her perspective changes. Her attraction to him was instant. So he goes from being one of her targets to him targeting her heart.
I love how well developed the characters were and how through the story, the author touches on issues in the workplace that women face everyday.
This was a fun and engaging read and I 💯 recommend it.

This book was something.....I was intrigued with the concept but the first few chapters really turned me off. I decided to give it a chance and while it did get better it was a rollercoaster ride. I liked the enemies to lovers relationship but there were very cringy scenes that felt unnatural....I think the writing style was just not my cup of tea. I liked our main couple ultimately and they had a good back and forth....Would I recommend this? Probably not. There are better hate to love stories out there.
I received an ARC of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I liked this book (especially loved that it took place in Chicago, which is always fun for me to read). Overall I gave it four stars.

This was a great book with characters that you couldn’t help but love. I can see this being a great book to take with you on vacation. I can’t wait to read more books from this author.

Thank you to Gallery books for the opportunity to read Heartbreak for Hire in exchange for my honest opinion.
I was really excited for this one. I love a good workplace Enemies-to-Lovers romance and the plot of revenge for hire sounded really unique. Unfortunately it feel flat for me. I felt Brinkley was immature and was not a fan of her immaturity and that her vindictiveness went too far. I did finish the book, hoping it would get better. But was just not for me.

I was not expecting to like this book as much as I did. The idea of a Womens company that is paid by other women to inflict revenge on men that have wronged them was a little too much to me. However, I really liked the characters and after everything that happened with Mark I had to see where the story was going. There were parts of this book that had me laughing so hard. Sonia Hartl did a great job with this story and the character development.

I couldn't get into this book, and I had to DNF it. I didn't like the tone of the writing, and it made me feel somewhat icky or unethical reading it. I think it could have been more light-hearted and fun, but the execution wasn't there for me.

Great book. enjoyed this book and will read more from this author. Enjoyed all aspects of this book. I will try to find more of these author books. Go and read it. I wanted more. Good stuff. Great concept from this book.
thanks so much netgalley.

An enemies-to-lovers, beach read that’s perfect for an escape. This book is short, witty, and honestly, a bit vindictive. It has potential to be a lot more than it is but overall, not a terrible book.
