I really enjoyed this book it was funny, quick to read and as hot as dragon fire.
I loved the dynamic between Lyndi and Levi. Their relationship started off a bit rocky both of them thinking that the other one hated them. But thankfully Levi took the first step even though Lyndi didn't take it easy on him.
What I loved most about those two was how big their heart was and how passionately they love each other and the boys. I especially loved when they started calling Levi "sir" to mess with him a bit.
There were a few moments when I would skip a few pages bc it was a bit too dragged out but all in all I really liked it and would definitely recommend it to everyone who loves hot dragon shifter romance novels.

This is a very different take on the lives, roles and political organisation of dragon shifter society. There's clear expectations, political manoeuvring and suspense as well as romance in this steamy "at long last" dragon shifter romance!
Levi Rowtag is the beta enforcer who works in the Americas with an official team comprising members from the different clans. When he first met and recognised Lyndi Chandali as his mate over two centuries earlier he never acted on it as he believes she'd never accept him as her mate as she's a born dragon and cousin of the High King. Female born dragons are sterile and are usually given to powerful dragons in political moves . . . . but she's feisty enough to have joined this team of enforcers when her brother was appointed there. For two centuries they've verbally sparred but he's always protected her - usually when she didn't want it - and supported her, especially in her endeavours to provide a home for orphaned dragon shifter children.
Someone is scheming to take down the enforcers, discrediting them, spreading unwarranted rumours and creating distrust between the different groups but who is doing it - and what is their aim? As the strife between the clans intensifies, Levi is ordered to return to his clan . . . . can she let him go without making him aware of her feelings and can he go without making her aware of his? However, other powerful enemies are now threatening both Lyndi and her orphans. What will they decide to do - and will they succeed?
This is a drama filled paranormal story, packed with love, fighting and danger. The political intrigue is definitely heating up, placing them all in precarious positions. I throughly enjoyed reading it and was surprised and impressed by Vislinn, I hope he'll be in future stories in this series! If you enjoy paranormal romantic suspense where there are battles to be fought, constraints to be tested and romance to be found I highly recommend you check out this book and the rest of the series!
Thank you to Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for my copy of this book which I have voluntarily read and honestly reviewed.

A romance for the ages. We have rare female dragon Lyndi and powerful enforcer Levi. Lyndi came over with her brother from the Red Clan. When they first met hundreds of years ago, Levi knew she was his fated but one wrong look and Lyndi dismisses it. It has been a back in forth battle every since. As an alpha male dragon, he can't denies his feelings anymore and takes the leap with Lyndi. When Lyndi finds out she is to be mated to another for a political move an Levi has been called back by the Gold King, Levi and Lyndi, with her orphan kids, go on the run. The passion between Lyndi and Levi is hot. This was a fun, action packed, and outstanding read. I love how the series intertwines. As always with Abigails books is a one-click buy for me. Can't wait for the next book!
All thoughts and opinions are my own. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

Exciting and amazing. This is my first book in the Fire’s Edge series and I was completely captivated as I was pulled into this world of dragon shifters. From the moment Levi saw Lyndi in the sky, he felt and knew she was his mate but she is red dragon royalty so feels he wouldn’t be worthy. Lyndi has kept Levi at a distance for 200 years believing he didn’t like her. As tensions mount with another group of enforcers, this puts the orphans Lyndi rescues and raises at risk. This also has Levi spending more time with her as a protector. Now, these two are full of sparks, passion and stubbornness but when they finally give in and acknowledge how they feel, well, they are combustible. As a new threat comes for Lyndi and the orphans, they are put to the test to protect everyone. There is so much to love about this world. Even jumping in at book 4, I felt like the story gave me everything I needed to know to follow all the intrigue and drama between the different dragon clans. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

I loved this book! The characters were wonderful and the storyline was amazing. Levi and Lyndi were so awesome together, and I was thrilled with the outcome; especially the ending…it was perfect!
From the beginning of the story, it was easy to get lost in the pages because they were full of action, adventure, suspense, sexual tension, mystery, danger, and smoking hot romance. It’s literally an insta-attraction blaring bright turned to a simmering longing hidden by misunderstandings and events out of their control keeping them apart. But when they finally connect, they seriously smoke up the pages.
The world-building of this series was really great; it was easy to picture the scenes as they played out and I enjoyed the history and hierarchy of the dragons and the mates and different colored dragons’ interactions (some good, some bad). Lyndi’s orphans were a nice addition to the mix and I loved the cave troll. And again, the ending..sigh! The entire book was awesome!

Not sure about everyone else, but this is the book I have been “patiently” waiting for, because Lyndi and Levi’s sexual tension through the other books has been off the charts. You know that saying, “good things come to those who wait”, it really did for these two. Not sure I could’ve waited for 200 years, but patient I am not. And fighting their instincts, I couldn’t of done that either. But with politics going on in their world, it pushed them to give into temptation, finally. So excited about it and for these two.
We get to read the Prologue of when these two met, and understand a lot more about their background. This was such a great storyline, she wraps up each couple in a book, but there is an ongoing storyline of cutthroat politics. To put it mildly, the dragon world is basically going up in flames, loyalties tested and sides being chosen. So many things happen, so many whoa, what the moments. I love this series so much, and her other dragon series, Inferno Rising, too. They are both so addicting, that when I get through with one...I really want another one...nowish. See, patient I am not. An epilogue that really had me wanting the next book already and a long awaited and well deserved hea. Next book please...nowish would be great.

Engaging!
Levi and Lyndi finally get their story. It is full of heart, emotion and drama. Add in some action, orphans and a troll and you have a fantastic book.
I voluntarily read an advanced copy.

The Protector is the fourth book in the Fire's Edge series by Abigail Owen. A story full of heated passion, undeniable chemistry, drama, and deadly turmoil. The Protector is part of a series but can easily be read as a standalone novel. However, once you read The Protector you will want to read the other books in the Fire's Edge series. Deadly turmoil and the fires of passion burn bright. Once again, Abigail Owen's captivating is so intriguing it pulls you into a world of fantasy, mystery, and intrigue.

So, I have been on a Dragon kick lately. Something about a big old fire beast falling for a mate....yep, I like it. I have seen Abigail Owen on my feed and decided to give her a try!

Overall Rating: 4 Stars
Standalone: Yes-ish. This was the first book I read but it is the 5th in the series. I felt like I was missing some backstory, and there is an underlying arc that I suspect runs through the series. However, this was about one couple and I was able to catch up.
Steam: 3 Stars
Triggers: Not in my opinion

Levi has been in "like" with Lyndi since their very first meeting. Of course that meeting didn't go well and each had their feelings hurt for different reasons. 200 years later, they are still skating around each other. That is until Levi is called back to his Clan and he needs to report in one week.
Suddenly, 200 years has blinked by and Lyndi and Levi don't know how to proceed but they both know they must do something because the chemistry is there. Like the chemistry is smoking hot!
Lyndi is strong, runs a home for orphaned dragons (dragons which no one wants and don't mind if the die, smart, beautiful and sterile (apparently all naturally born female dragons are sterile). For 200 years, she has felt like less a woman for that reason. She also feels like she's not worthy of Levi and will only get hurt when he finds his "fated" mate.
Levi is the Beta dragon of the enforcer clan, and he is strong, dominant, and a slow understanding his feeling for Lyndi, though his dragon sure knows. Levi and Lyndi realizing they only have a week decide to essentially get each other out of their system. One night, no strings...what could go wrong? Yep, that whole getting someone out of your system always works (sarcasm lol).
Not only are we reading a romance between these two characters, but there is danger lurking everywhere. Someone wants to take the enforcers down and is making them look like the bad guys and have a sinister plot to take them all down. So there is a mystery to solve too.
This book had likeable characters that drew me in and made me want to know more about them. A story that was steamy, suspenseful, and a page turner that kept me engaged. It was easy to read and I enjoyed the book enough to explore Ms. Owen's backlist.
If you are looking for some hot dragon flames, with an interesting story...give this book a try! It's a recommend from me!

Even though it would have been better if I read the previous books to have a better understanding of some of the characters' stories. It did not take away from the story line. This book was so captivating that you feel connected to the characters on some levels. I cannot wait to read some more books from this author. Absolutely DELICIOUS!!!!!!

I really liked The Protector. I enjoyed reading The Fire's Edge series. I love all the characters and the romantic relationships. There is also a lot of action in these books that make for an exciting read. I loved Lyndi and Levi's story. I also enjoyed the new friend they made in the cave. The ending was so good, a very enjoyable read.
I give The Protector 4 stars for its good read.
I would recommend this book to Paranormal/Fantasy Fans.

I have to say this latest book in the Fire’s Edge series happens to be my favorite so far. As a female dragon shifter Lyndi Chandali has been taught that she is really not all that useful except as a political pawn. Rather than wallowing in her fate, she decides to make a worthwhile life for herself by fighting alongside her enforcer brother and taking in orphaned dragons and providing them a home. Because she knew she could never be a true mate, Lyndi never allowed her attraction to the beta enforcer Levi Rowtag ever come to light. They have known each other for centuries and have always circled around one another. Levi always felt the connection between them but due to multiple misunderstandings throughout the years the only feeling he felt from Lyndi was contempt. Even though he believed she hated him, he always felt the need to protect her. But circumstances have now changed, Levi had to make a decision between duty to his king and a chance to finally claim his mate.
Like in the previous three books a lot happens in this book, almost too much, there were so many moments that had me at the edge of my seat. What I really loved about this book was the devotion Levi felt towards Lyndi and her orphans. When the two finally revealed how they felt towards each other, you could feel the connection between the two. I adored all of the orphaned dragons, they did provide some comic relief at times. And it was wonderful catching up with some of the characters in the previous books.
All in all a wonderful read! And with the way this book ended, I am now anxiously awaiting for Rune’s story!

Dragon Shifter Lyndi Chandali comes from a royal lineage of the High King and so has long feared being forced to mate as a political pawn. Female dragons are rare and known to be sterile which is an added burden on Lyndi because there is one dragon whom she desires but does think she can have. Fated mates in this world usually involve a male dragon and human female adding another layer of difficulty for Lyndi. Though her brother is King of his particular clan, the dragons are still under a ruthless and nasty ruler who is out to destroy all his opposition. Lyndi has formed a kind of family on her own taking care of orphaned young dragons; they are at risk of annihilation by enemy forces.
Levi Rowtag has had an eye for over two hundred years on the most stubborn female, Lyndi; he believes her to be his mate despite the difficulties for them being together. As enforcer, Levi’s job is to fight and protect the clan he has been living with from all comers. Lyndi resists Levi at every turn pretending either indifference or animosity toward the persistent dragon. Lyndi’s feeling for Levi run deep; however, in her mind, any relationship between them could go nowhere because one day, Levi might find his true mate in a human woman.
War is coming for all the dragon clans and when Levi is called back to serve by his clan’s king, he must decide whether or not to defy the order to stay with and protect Lyndi despite her protests. Allies of the High King are out to capture Lyndi for nefarious purposes. Levi will stop at nothing, sacrifice anything, to protect Lyndi no matter what the cost. This story is the fourth book in the Fire Edge series.

I had to re-read this series before diving into The Protector. I've been soooo curious about Lyndi's and Levi's story. There was so much working against them, but I wanted their happily ever after more than anything. And it brought up a lot of questions of if it would be possible for them to be together.
When it comes to most romance I've read, it tends to be the hero that makes rash decisions for their counterpart, but it was rather surprising to see it from the heroine. I don't know why that stood out to me, but it just did.
The politics of mates is what has irked me the most with this series and I'm sure I'm not alone in that. I'm beyond for that to end and as we get through each book in the series, we're getting closer to a resolution of all the corruption.
I loved getting to know Lyndi and Levi more, as well as seeing all of my favorites through the series. These two have had a strong connection for a decade, but never choosing to act on it. Levi would do absolutely anything for Lyndi and my goodness, she held back for so long..
With everything they faced along the way, I was completely satisfied with their story. I definitely need to see more of them in the next book, which I'm rather eager to get to.
Love this series by Abigail!

Owen's books are always fun reads. She builds a great paranormal world, give us interesting characters and intense storylines.
Lyndi and Levi are great. Their shared attraction has gone unacknowledged and unrequited for centuries. Lyndi is so sweet and caring but no less a lethal dragon. She's let the knowledge that she's sterile direct her entire life. Has known no male dragon would ever want a woman who can't give him children. That doesn't stop her from loving and giving. She's created an unique orphanage for young dragon shifters and is very beloved by her wards.
Levi is everything expected of a strong beta. He's tough, smart and a great warrior. His attraction to Lyndi is not tempered by her infertility. He loves her spirit, her mind, her body.
As the two fight to protect their misfit clan and her orphans they finally act upon their attraction and it's hot. It's hard sometimes to watch Lyndi getting in her own way. She takes forever to believe that Levi wants her, as is. The unthinkable happens when another dragon claims her to mate for political reasons.
The climax to this story has everything you need to create great drama and a sweet resolution. Another solid, entertaining story from Owens.

Romance: ❤️💜💙💚💖
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 👏👏👏👏👏
World building: 🌎🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: 🥸😯😎☺️🥰
The setting: California Mountains, Alaska
The heroine: Lyndi - related to the Red King. She is one of the few female dragon shifters. Female dragon shifters are very rare and also sterile. That means that they are fairly useless to other dragons, since dragons generally have fated mates which can prolong their lives from about 1000 years to 2000 years. Her kind can’t have a fated mate and is only used for making alliances between the king and another party.
The Hero: Levi - a gold dragon and he was sent to America to be an Enforcer for the Huracáns in the pacific northwest. Levi’s dragon has wanted Lyndi since she first came to his team but he messes things up when he meets her and she has had animosity towards him ever since.
The Love Story: Levi and all gold dragons are called by the gold king to their stronghold in Scandinavia to fight in the war. He and Lyndi finally show each other how much they are attracted to each other and due to the fact that he will soon be leaving, Lyndi agrees to be with Levi.
Lyndi is a great heroine and she is so strong and doesn’t ever dwell on her lot in life. When she realizes how she feels about Levi she only thinks of him and what mating her would mean for him, like a shorter life and a life without children of his own. She also works as an enforcer for the Huracáns and started an orphanage in her home for orphaned dragons who are usually shunned because their parents have either died or cast them out. These dragons usually end up feral and are killed because they risk outing the dragon shifters to humans.
The orphans make up part of the supporting cast as well as some of the other Huracáns and their mates. There are also some other characters which are fantastic. It’s funny how so many shifter books differ in how things work, yet have so much in common. For example, some are just one mind, they are just human sometimes and animals when they shift.
Others are where they are like two beings sharing the same body, the human can feel the animal inside them, the animal may make its needs known, like recognizing a mate, and can growl at times or push the human to do things. In these cases there are even differences where sometimes when they shift, the animal is in complete control and it is like the human can see what is happening but can’t do anything about it. Other times, like in these books, even when they are in animal form, the human is still the one in control of the mind.
Anyway, there are also differences in the mating in different shifter books. They all seem to have true or fated mates, but in some books, once they find their mate, they have to bite each other and that starts the bonding process. Also in some shifter books the shifter can mate humans but the human doesn’t become a shifter, while in others like this series, the mate becomes a shifter if they survive the mating.
In these stories they also have a mating counsel and it seems that the counsel has to approve of the mates even if they are fated mates. That is one of the things that is a bit unclear in this book since I haven’t read the previous books in this series. It refers to some mates from previous books and they are on the run but doesn’t really explain exactly why. I got the impression they mated without authorization from the council. Either that or someone else got authorization to mate the female and the fated mates got together despite the other guy.
Either way, the fact that I did not completely understand the references to the previous books had no bearing on my enjoyment of this book. I will hopefully eventually read those previous books anyway and then I will understand it all. The world building was terrific in these books, I could picture the caves and cabins and the character development was pretty great as well. I loved the history between Levi and Lyndi and the romance was quite steamy, but the story was definitely the best part of the book. So much dragon action and dragons are just so fricken cool! 🐲
I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

First let me say I do believe you need to have read the rest of the books in the series to get the full impact of this latest addition to the world of the Fire;s Edge dragons this is a world that is the true example of the wonderful world of dragons and the lives they lead One of the strongest dragons in this world is Levi an enforcer for the king Centuries earlier he met Lyndi a rare female dragon and to say they didn't hit it off is an understatement hatred is probably a better description. Now years later they meet again Lyndi has adopted many orphan dragons as she knows she will never have children of her own but this time when they meet there is a super charged attraction between these two As danger threatens Levi will have to make the ultimate choice follow the orders of his king or keep Lyndi and her orphans safe safe which choice will he make you will have to read to see

**Warning: Major Spoilers Ahead**
This is the first book by Abigail Owen that I am unfortunately not a fan of. I felt very little towards either character individually or as a couple, because the way their relationship was described felt very rushed. While reading, I kept feeling like I was missing information, went back to see if I skipped anything, but found that the author just hadn't included it. The relationship was given some backstory, but it wasn't enough to give the reader (me) a chance to warm up to them before they jumped on each other. It also seemed really odd that a couple would go hundreds of years staying apart, and then all of a sudden would realize they had the hots for each other a week before the one had to leave. It just didn't feel realistic.
Another piece that really brought this book down for me was the miraculous recovery of the heroine's fertility. I am someone who will most likely never be able to have children of my own, and I was really excited to see a heroine who adopted a bunch of children and found a man who was okay with her not having a child of her own. But then the author had to go and repair her fertility. Which, by itself I say hoorah for her, but I would just once like to see a heroine with fertility problems who ends the book with that being okay. This obsession society has with blood-related children is really difficult for me to read sometimes. Especially with this book, because part of the allure of this pairing was the idea of an infertile heroine. I wish the author would have let the book end with the heroine having just her adopted children. Because that is okay, folks. Truly, it is.

Will she accept his decision to choose her ...
Having not read the previous books in the series, I do wonder if more of their hate-love relationship was displayed in those.
As the prologue presents them on their first meeting, the following chapter is a jump in time of nearly two centuries.
And their hate war is just like that, over. So may be the other books offered some insights of their special connection.
Lyndi devoted her life to help and rescue orphaned dragons, those left behind by the dangers the simple fact they existe bring. They are like the children she will never have. Like she longs for Levy to be the mate she will also be deprived by her status of being a female dragon shifter.
Levi is good at what he does, one of the best enforcer. He just lack a mate, but the one woman he knows is the one for him seems to avoid him at all cost. Until it is decided he must leave his team to go back assist his king.
Then bim bam boum, they mend decades of enmity in blowing up some steam between the sheets. From then, begins a new kind of seduction, for Levy to persuade Lyndi, he will not sacrifice anything by choosing her over a potential fated mate he does not even know if she exists. And stubborn, she is.
In all, it is a fun, action packed and entertaining read. I might even prefer this series to its sequel sister.

I was granted an advance copy by the publisher, here is my true and unbiased opinion.

I was very fortunate to receive this book for my honest review of it.
I have read other Abigail Owen books and enjoyed them, this one I struggled some what with because I feel you need to have read the other books in the series. Many characters and their relationships are in this book so it would help to navigate the story better had I read them prior.
At the start Lyndi and Levi meet and the two clash because of attraction but neither recognize that each other feel the same pull. Years later the dragons find themselves in constant fights and struggles and the time has come that Levi needs to let Lyndi know how he feels before its too late. These two are magnetic together and their story is really good. I will read the books prior and reread this one so I have them in order and I do plan on purchasing the next one in the series when it comes out. All the characters are likeable and fun!
