This story takes at the last half of the Battle at Culloden. It is a story unexpected love happening while these two rebel warriors, one Prince Charles's Phantom messenger, escape the Red Coats to join back up with Bonnie Prince Charlie on the run. I found it bittersweet as we know from history Prince Charles Stuart never returns to Scottish soil once he escapes. This story is a battle of wills and trust as Fiona refuses to have her independence curtailed. It was interesting to see them end up working together to locate the prince and stay one step ahead of the Red Coats.

We meet Brogan Grant as he's leaving the Culloden battlefield looking to join up with the prince. He is the illegitimate & disowned son of Chief Grant. His Da split the clan and pledged his allegiance to King George while Brogan supports the Prince Charles Stuart. He collects survivors on the field and they band together to locate the Prince. He meets Fiona MacBean on the road and they both have trust issues. He thinks she's a spy and he being a Grant makes her unsure if he's a Jacobite or not. He's sure a woman has no place on the battlefield and decides to escort her home. He had no idea she was as staunch a supporter of the Scottish cause as him. In the end he comes to respect her independence, intelligence and finds a woman who can hold her own in rebellion.

Fiona and Brogan help put up quite a fight for the Jacobite cause. Both extremely dedicated to the point they won't be swayed, there is plenty of perilous action and drama to go around as they risk life and limb continuously to serve/protect their would be king. Graphic steam does not hijack the story here, as this similar duty minded couple get to know each other first and things don't get smexy until the second half.

Fiona was one feisty, doesn't back down, stealthy kind of leading lady. She fits well within Brogran's tough but likable posse of fighting men, on and off the battlefield. In case you haven't heard, all the heroines of this series are scripted to be verra sassy and strong willed.

I did ding the stars a little for the well intended but knucklehead move made to force this main couple to make up their romantic minds. I likely might not have if the instigator would have had to work harder to fix things. It added a punch to the heart, relationship angst but quickly turned sweet and a tad too convenient. It also had a "say what?" aspect, as well.

This is likely the last book of this great series, folks.

Title: You've Got Plaid, Series: Prince Charlie's Angels (Book 3), Author: Eliza Knight, Pages: 314, pub date: 5/14/21, stand-alone but part of series, both Jacobite loyalists, sassy independent doesn't back down heroine, leader warrior like hero, non virgin MC, more plot than steam, some very graphic steamy scenes in latter half, attempted sexual assault scene, say what-knucklehead decision near end, some violence..

Book 1 - The Rebel Wears Plaid
Book 2 - Truly Madly Plaid

This was the first in the series that I read. I found it so easy to just jump into the story. Fiona was such a wonderful female character. I loved our handsome dude Brogan. I was hooked on the story of a female spy immediately. The romance was nice and steamy. I would love to read more in this series and more by this author. Thank you to Netgalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This Highlander is determined to return the daughter of his enemy to the safety of her home, even if it means helping her...

Brogan Grant, a Jacobite soldier and bastard son of the Chief, fought savagely on the battlefield, and barely escaped capture. On the run for his life, Brogan comes across what he thinks is a spy—a very bonny lass disguised as a lad, who happens to be the daughter of his clan's enemy. He admires her bravery, but he knows what can happen to a woman alone in a war-ravaged land.

Lady Fiona MacBean is determined to do her part to ensure there is a Scottish king. Disguised as a healer, she delivers coded messages to rebels throughout the Highlands. There's only one thing impeding her mission—a striking Highlander who's determined to send her home.

Unfortunately, Fiona will not be deterred. Left with little choice, Brogan agrees to join her mission if she agrees to return home after. Now the two must work together and risk everything to save the life of Bonnie Prince Charlie himself. If only their hearts weren't at risk as well...

During the end of the battle of Culloden Moor, six Scottish warriors from different clans form a bond to serve and protect Bonnie Prince Charles. Now they just have to find him. Soon they encounter a lad who isn't a lad, but a lass on a mission. Fiona MacBean works for the Prince running around the countryside delivering messages. Clan MacBean and Grant are considered enemies. As the leader of the warriors, Brogan Grant fights for the cause. He is the bastard son of the Chief of Clan Grant and a traitor to his clan, who follow the English King George. In a mad dash looking for the Prince, these seven warriors and lass fight and work their way to their ultimate goal. Can the love between Brogan and Fiona be strong enough to keep them together on Scottish soil? Not my favorite time period to read a romance set in Scotland, but this story sucks you in and doesn't let go.

This is the 3rd book in Prince Charlie's Angel's series. It can be read as a stand alone.
This is the story of Fiona McBean, a messenger for Bonnie Prince Charlie. She is also known as the Phantom, there one minute, gone the next.
Brogan Grant is a warrior, supporting the true king, Prince Charles. He runs into Fiona on several occasions, while she is running messages for the Prince. He admires her spirit, her strength, fearlessness.
This story centers around the battle of Culloden. As a result it becomes more of a history lesson than a romance.
There was so much potential between the two but got lost in the history.

Never a dull moment!
In this addition to the series we have enemies to lovers, road trip, fight scenes and forced proximity. The author manages to balance all of the stories elements well so that the reader never gets lost or overwhelmed by the amount of action happening. This kept me up because I had to know what happened next. I love the time period the story is set in. It feels very different from other historical romances out there right now (especially with the booming success of Bridgerton). .
The chemistry between the characters is fire. The banter, the fighting and the slow burn kept me routing for them to get together.
Although this is part of a series this worked fine as a standalone. This is a great beach read and adventure romance.

You’ve Got Plaid by Eliza Knight
Prince Charlie’s Angels #3

Fiona, The Phantom, messenger for the king, and star of this story finds her happily ever after and finishes this three-book series.

What I liked:
* Fiona: strong, intelligent, cunning, capable, lethal, dedicated, loves her family, committed to the cause she believes in.
* Brogan: illegitimate, strong, deadly, leader, smart, clever, planner, king’s man, wise, ferocious, a good man.
* The 7 men that traveled with Brogan after the battle at Culloden – would like to know more about them.
* The slow growing romance between Fiona and Brogan
* The esteem Fiona was held in
* Milla: a nice canine addition to the story
* That the good guys in this story all seemed to survive
* Wondering about Gus and Leanna in the USA and whether or not they will get a book or two in the future along with Ian.
* Being able to visit the past and seeing history without having to actually experience the hardships the characters had to deal with.

What I didn’t like:
* Knowing that the evils of war still exist and are as bad now as they were back then.

Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Yes

A summer Read full of Highlander Fierceness in Action! Do you enjoy spirited lasses that can protect themselves and spew a few words that your mama would wash your mouth out with soap?
Then come join Author Eliza Knight because she has went above and beyond in her research to give us the readers a look at the Jacobite uprising as they try to put there Bonny Prince Charlie in as King of Scotland. However, the Battle of Culloden is where everything falls apart.
Fiona is a Messenger for the Prince and she has a very hard role because she not only has to watch out for The Butcher’s troops, but also her own Scottish people who have sided with the English.
Brogan Grant, a Jacobite soldier has come across Fiona on her valiant missions and he has now been enlisted to aid her in order to rejoin the Prince.

The duplicity that happens within their own group almost gets Fiona killed and Brogan is livid. This assignment is fraught with problems and dangers.

The book is at times slow, but overall still a great summer read.

I received an advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.

After the Jacobites defeat at Culloden, a group of surviving Scots run into a messenger from Bonnie Prince Charlie, our heroine, Fiona. They team up and part ways multiple times trying to track down Charlie as he escapes to France. Sparks fly between Fiona and one of the Jacobite soldiers, Brogan.

The story line was a lot of Fiona asserting her independent spirit and Brogan trying to convince her he is supportive of it. There are a few good love scenes late in the book, not much violence, and a pretty cool dog. I just wasn't impressed with the story or characters. I felt I'd read it/seen it all before in Outlander. I kept waiting for them to run into Jamie & Claire.

There was a lot of reference to characters from the rest of the series (which I haven't read). You could read this as a standalone like I did, but about 1/3 of the story will seem superfluous and slow down the action for you.

This book was so exciting to read by one of my favorite authors. Ms Knight writes highland romance like nobody's business. She gives her heart and soul to give readers a splendid book. Even though this is the third in the Prince Charlie's Angels, it can be read as a stand alone. I really enjoyed spending time with those brawny highlanders who wear their plaid so well. The characters seemed real with thoughts and feelings of their own.
Brogan Grant is a Jacobite rebel who is a bastard son of the Chief. He fought on the battlefield and almost got caught but escaped. Brogan finds himself on the run for his life and along the way, finds a lad who he thinks' is a spy, but is really a lass. He can't believe this very opinionated and feisty woman is alone. Fiona MacBean is a spy who travels around to deliver coded messages to help Bonny Prince Charles rightful claim to the throne. She wants to do her part, and being disguised as a healer, is doing what she does best. Keeping the handsome highlander from sending her home, Fiona gets him to help her with a promise she will go home after.
Oh, this was such a romantic and beautiful book that has two people who were meant to be. Love is the key and a happy every after.
I appreciate Net Galley for this ARC title in which I gave an honest review.

Years ago, Fiona MacBean along with her two best friends pledged their undying support to restore the rightful king to Scotland’s throne and have spent the years since living up to that pledge. Fiona with her gift of blending in and gathering information has acted as Prince Charlie’s personal messenger for years – earning her the sobriquet of The Phantom. Now with the battle of Culloden upon them, there is no way Fiona won’t be there – regardless of what her brother has ordered. The battle is a massacre and Fiona is worried for the safety of the prince and makes her way to Culloden House to make sure he escaped Cumberland’s wrath. But the prince is long gone when she arrives and it this there that she meets Brogan Grant and his small band of men.

Brogan has also come to Culloden House to ensure the prince is safe, but instead, he finds the feisty Fiona MacBean. He knows it is not safe for any Jacobite right now, especially a woman. He tells Fiona to go home and offers to escort her, but she makes it clear that she has work to do and doesn’t need his interference. But Brogan insists, he will accompany her on her mission and then escort her home – a plan Fiona appears to agree with. But when they learn that Cumberland has ordered his men to kill any remaining Jacobite supporters, she knows that she must warn her friends and contacts and she must do it alone. She sneaks away from camp and sets out on her own. At first, Brogan is upset and wants to find her, but then realizes that he really has no chance to tracking her down and instead sets out with his men to find the prince.

Weeks pass and again their paths cross, and after a deadly confrontation with the vile Captian Boyd, Fiona agrees to travel with Brogan to find the prince and even agrees to a “fake marriage” with Brogan to protect her during the journey. A dangerous adventure that will have them chasing the prince all over the highlands.

This was a very interesting read, that was it was more historical fiction than romance in my opinion – but it was a well-written, gripping read that was very hard to put down. The book is filled with heartache, graphic battle/fight scenes, betrayal, loss, warm love scenes, wonderful secondary characters, a strong, likable hero, an independent heroine, and a very sweet dog. Personally, I was not a fan of the ending, I felt it was a bit melodramatic for no good reason and that this book 100% needed an epilogue. As historical fiction, this was a solid 4-star read, but as a romance, I found it lacking – I didn’t feel the love between Fiona and Brogan developing, there was attraction, but that was also a serious lack of trust that caused them to doubt each other too many times for me to believe they were truly “in love”. This is the third book and final book in the series, but it could be read as a standalone title with no problems.

Lady Fiona we have meet in the first couple books, and she is the spy- messages for the Prince. Brogan Grant runs into her on his travels and while she is trying to help the war effort. They go a around and around but there is the chemistry bringing them back together. Fiona learns to let down her guard after years and she feels safe with Brogan.
This like the rest of them it is full of twists and turns - war- running from the soldiers, kidnapping, and we get a dog! I really enjoyed this series and found it fun and something way different for HR. Strong ladies with a life long friendship. I can't wait to read more of this author.

3.5 stars rounded up to four stars. You’ve Got Plaid is historical romance (1745) that features Fiona MacBean who surreptitiously delivers messages throughout the Scottish Highlands on behalf of Bonnie Prince Charlie. While endeavoring to deliver one of those messages, she meets Brogan Grant who firmly believes that women belong in the home and not traipsing through the Highlands during the Scottish rebellion. However, they both reevaluate their priorities in the aftermath of the battle at Culloden and begin to work together to save the Prince. They encounter danger and betrayal, both from the English and from Scots who don’t support their cause. Their on-again, off-again attraction doesn’t always feel quite believable; the chemistry is somewhat lacking.

This novel is the third in a trilogy spotlighting three women who take active roles risking their lives in their determination to rid Scotland of the English and to put Prince Charlie on the throne of Scotland. This series is well-researched and well-written from a historical perspective. The romance, however, leaves something lacking. Nevertheless, I’ve enjoyed reading this series.

If you are looking for a novel that shows a love of Scotland and takes you on a journey than look no further! I love to read a Highland Romance on occasion and this one hits the spot. You’ve Got Plaid by Eliza Knight is set during and after the Battle of Culloden. There is some emotional heaviness here in an action packed adventure. This was my first time reading anything in this series so it works very well as a stand alone.

The book begins with a glimpse of a girl's childhood. Lady Fiona MacBean works for Bonnie Prince Charlie as a messenger (and partly a spy). Fiona was my favorite part of the book. She comes from a big family full of brothers and always had a knack for hiding messages in the woods. Before the Battle of Culloden, Fiona's brother, Ian, attempts to keep her home but she runs off to do her duty to Scotland.

Fiona runs into Brogan Grant multiple times on her missions. Brogon is from an enemy clan and also a bastard son. Brogan is a cinnamon roll warrior. There is instant attraction in the form of witty, sharp banter straight out of Much Ado About Nothing. I love any pair that can rival Beatrice and Benedict! Brogon is a cinnamon roll warrior with a lot of honor and pride of country and I'm here for it!

I can't recommend this Highland Historical with a spark of romance and non stop action.

Thank you to #NetGalley and #SourcebooksCasablanca for the early read. #YouveGotPlaid #Eliza Knight

This is the third & final book in this lovely series. Another well written page turner with strong characters. I loved Brogan, a staunch supporter of Bonnie Prince Charles, who is a strong leader. I liked Fiona but didn’t love her as I found her to be blinkered & no one & nothing was going to divert her from her chosen path. Whilst I loved this very well researched book I found it difficult to believe that the pair could truly find their HEA, hence only four stars instead of five
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

A well written tale surrounding the Battle of Culloden.. The female protagonist, Fiona, was a wee bit over the top but I suppose in a male dominated society at the time she'd have to be to be taken seriously as a Royal Messenger of Bonnie Prince Charlie. Brogan Grant is your typical alpha male highlander who butts heads with Fiona but eventually romance wins out in the end.

Will she be able to see past her duty ...

I have been hooked by this series since it’s first book has been published, and while it is darker than my usual read, it depicts the time period as it was with all its shades of grey and blood.
As all the events are centered around the timeframe of the battle of Culloden, a very bleak episode in the Scotland history.
Brogan is a warrior who has chosen a different path than the one of his clan, he is sure high-handed at the beginning, but it is his protector’s instincts that call him to shield a woman from the horrors of war and their consequences for the weakest.
Yet as they travel together, his feelings deepen as he recognizes Fiona’s drive and strong will. Thus he does what he swore to never do again, he let another someone into his heart, all the while fearing he will not be enough.
Fiona is a strong willed woman, single-minded and focused on her one assigned task, deliver messages and help the uprising of the Scotsmen against the English hegemony. So as a woman figure she is to be admired, she has à will of steel but as a romantic being she is too obsessed and unbending to completely fall for an other soul.
I loved Brogan as his protective nature won’t allow him to let her be, he also acknowledges the importance of her role and her strength, but it let him also open to be hurt. When Fiona is solely goal-oriented on her duty, which leaves no room for anyone else.
Her friends were able to open their arms and heart to their respective lover, but Fiona is too fixated on their mission outcome to really curve her path for someone else, she is not one to stay in one place, I am not sure Brogan will ever be enough for her.

Still it is an amazing read at a very agitated period, where many people became heroes with their courage as sole weapon.

It actually started really well. The premise is so my jam and the prologue intrigued me. However, the transition from one scene to another scene is so awful and jarring, it lessens my enjoyment while reading the book because the writing style takes me out of the story. There is no chemistry between the main characters and the dialogues are boring for my taste. I liked the concept of this, it's just that the execution does not live up to that.

This is my fair and honest review, voluntarily given and in my own words, for this ARC. Ok, let me get my criticism out of the way. The title for this book is in no way appropriate. I read the title and assumed that it would be cheeky and witty and funny based on the title. I could not have been more mislead. The book is actually well told however, there is nothing funny or cheeky about the tale. It takes place around the wars in Scotland and the flight of the Bonnie Prince. It is worth a read however, do not assume anything based on the title.
