I was in complete suspense at all times while reading this book I felt like I was reading more of a thriller, suspense novel than a WW2 novel, I did enjoy it, it was different as the book was more intriguing.

so many characters especially the Dior part was keeping me on my toes, I wanted to know more about her. about the real-life spy.

Two different characters trying to survive the war and helping the resistance to finally dismantle many Germans and Atrocities that were happening and not many knew about it.. the world was oblivious of many of the things that happened during the war.

Gabby and Ivette are two British spies and fugitives, running for their lives and at the same time hiding from the world in order to help win the war

The heroic help of many women helped to spread the news and the evil plans of many of the Germans and Gabby and Ivette were two of many who helped to conquer the war.

Great book really recommended

This was a very well executed WWII historical fiction novel addressing the heroic war efforts of a non-fiction woman, Catherine Dior (sister to the famous Christian Dior of fashion fame), and two other young women, sisters Gabby and Yvette. This book actually inspired me to go to Google and Wikipedia to read further about the war efforts of Catherine Dior.

This novel is told from two viewpoints, Gabby and Yvette, and in a past and present timeline. The writing and imagery are stunning. There is political intrigue and espionage, and a little romance along the way. This book also highlights what women were able to do to resist the Nazis.

I also "read" some of this on audio and Saskia Maarleveld did an outstanding job, as always.

Thank you to NetGalley and William Morrow for this advanced reader's eBook copy.

I actually ended up really liking this story after starting out not really knowing what direction it was headed in. Set over a 3-5 year period, the tale follows Yvette and Gabby, 2 young French girls who find themselves in the middle of occupied France toward the end of WW11. Both girls end up fulfilling different roles as street level members of the French resistance. The story begins in 1947 with an exiled Yvette returning to France to serve as a star witness in the trial of disgraced film star Louis Dulac who is facing charges related to her open relationship with a high ranking Nazi officer during the war. Alternating between current events and the last years of the war, we learn all about the secret activities of these 2 sisters. Activities that ultimately drove Yvette to flee France out of concerns for her safety. An engaging story which becomes more interesting as the story builds through the pages. Yvette and Gabby are the perfect sister pair, one a carefree rebel who always seems to land on her feet, the other a nurturing worrier consumed with taking care of all whom need help. Should appeal to fans of the genre. Review posted to Amazon, Litsy, LibraryThing, Facebook, Instagram and Goodreads.

This was a sweet story about two sisters working for the French Resistance at the end of World War II. It was a different angle for this period of history.

I enjoyed this book. I never knew about Catherine Dior and her role in the resistance. Although I don’t usually have difficulty with dual narratives and timelines, I found this book confusing at times.

A good book, but a little long in places. It follows two sisters, Gabby and Yvette, during World War II. The girls are involved with the Dior family and we see the effects of the war on the rich as they try to travel and protect their wealth. Of course we have romance in the book as Jack lies in a hospital bed. An interesting chain of events in the book as well and a good ending.

This work of historical fiction is based on Catherine Dior’s Paris spy network during World War II. The central characters are two fictional sisters, Gabby and Yvette Foucher, who are recruited into the resistance by Catherine without each other’s knowledge. The narrative switches between the two sisters in 1944 when the put their lives in danger and 1947, when Yvette returns to Paris to testify at a war crimes trial. The deprivations and cruelties of war are starkly depicted in the novel. This emotional and suspenseful work reveals the courage and daring of these strong women. Highly recommended for lovers of women’s history and human stories of World War II.

This novel about two sisters involved in Catherine Dior's Paris spy network introduced me to a new aspect of the WWII era that I hadn't read about before, and it was certainly interesting to hear about how the famous Dior family was involved in the French Resistance efforts. However, I struggled at times to get fully into the story, which admittedly may be due to my own difficulties with dual timelines (I sometimes can't be bothered to pay attention to the headings with the dates, lol!). I do think this would be an enjoyable read for someone with an interest in WWII era novels, but the storylines focus more on the two sisters, rather than giving intricate historical details about the workings of Catherine Dior's networks, so it may not be the best source for more details about that topic.

Courtesy of Netgalley I received the ARC of Sisters of the Resistance by Christine Wells. This historical novel portrays the French Resistance in WWII Paris, highlighting the efforts of Catherine Dior and her spy network. Told through the story of fictional sisters and their acquaintances, I gained a better understanding of the situations, the activities and dangers faced by these brave people, learning that everything is not as it seems on the surface.

What a wonderful book. The characters provide the driving force behind this story. It’s a tale of WWII Resistance that will stay with me for a very long time. The writing was commanding and kept me interested and turning pages.

This book provides a reminder of how difficult living during WWII was for those in the thick of German Nazi cruelty. It’s a bell of alarm to prompt us to remain vigilant and never allow such things to happen again.

Warning for those who are sensitive. There is attempted rape and instances where violence and torture are discussed.

Sisters of Resistance shows the goodness and kindness of the French people as opposed to the brutality and horror brought by the Nazis. It’s a quick, easy read with plenty of action, danger, patriotism, and touches of glamour. It’s about resisting evil, brave women, patriots, deprivation, torture and murder, romance, and fashion design.

I enjoyed this book, and recommend it to those interested in historical/WWII novels.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley. I thank all involved for their generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reaction to reading this book.

I found this 5-star read fascinating! "Sisters of the Resistance" is a dual-timeline story going back and forth from 1944 to 1947. It's about two sisters, Yvette and Gabby Foucher, and how they both were involved with the resistance efforts during WWII and how these efforts affected their lives a few years after the war was over.

I enjoyed the realism of Catherine Dior's involvement and also the beginning of Christian Dior's fashion success. They're a terrific way to bring these sisters together after having been apart for several years.

Ms. Wells kept me on my toes wanting more as she went back and forth with the sister's stories as they evolved from 1944 to 1947 with a satisfying conclusion. This was my first book by her and I look forward to reading more.

Thank you Book Club Girls and NetGalley for this ARC. This is my honest review.

This was a really intriguing novel. I loved that the two sisters, Gabby and Yvette have conflict, but are really there for each other. The book was especially good b/c it added in the element of glamour and excitement about working for the House of Dior.

Both sisters have people in their life they are uncertain about. I liked that this is fiction, but addressed the role Catherine Dior and several others around her took to help with WWII resistance. Gabby and Yvette both must make crucial decisions about deciding if each wants to help the resistance or not. Obviously, anyone involved puts themselves and family at great risk.

Family plays a big role in this book. Gabby and Yvette also have to think about the well being of their mother, who lives in France.

Powerful story that I really loved.

Thank You NetGalley, Christine Wells, and William Morrow for giving me an ARC of this book. Much appreciated.

I really enjoyed this story. I loved the connection to the resistance during WW2. I use to watch a show called Allo, Allo and this story brought back fond memories of that!
I really loved how the author used Christian Dior in the novel and how his sister was involved. The stories of Gabby and Yvette were so fascinating as well. Well done, highly recommend for people who love WW2 novels!

I love a good WWII/post-war period historical novel, especially when female spies are involved. This is the story of the Foucher sisters, who basically serve, along with their mother, as supers of a building in 1944 Paris. Gabby, the more stable, reasonable one, manages to accidentally get involved in hiding an injured British intelligence officer who ended up in her building. She is talked into this project by the close friend of one of the building's residents - Catherine Dior (yes, one of those Diors, sister to Christian). Her younger sister Yvette, a bit flightier and bolder, is also recruited by Catherine and her friend to carry some messages and packages for the French resistance. This is a bit easier for Yvette because she already works as a courier for a fashion house in Paris and is regularly biking all over the city. As these events unfold in the past timeline, Yvette gets involved with a "Swedish ambassador" who is clearly not what he sees and becomes friends with a famous actress who is the mistress of a Nazi officer but maybe also secretly part of the resistance. Much of the past storyline takes place after D-Day, and the increasing frustration of knowing that they are so close to freedom but still under occupation makes Yvette bolder and more reckless until she has to be sent away, just as Catherine Dior is arrested and eventually sent to a Nazi concentration camp. The present timeline takes place in 1947, when Yvette returns to Paris for the first time and ends up serving as a model for the newly founded House of Dior. This is a good sister bonding story against a pretty stark historical backdrop.

Set in Nazi-occupied Paris during WW2 and then moving several years in the future after the war, Sisters of the Resistance follows sisters Yvette and Gabby Foucher who are both recruited into Resistance work by Catherine Dior, sister of fashion designer Christian Dior.

Having read many WW2 novels, many elements of this story felt similar. There's spying, Nazi brutality and a story involving hiding an injured British soldier. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this book, particularly the timeline after the war, since that felt fresher and more unique than the war storyline. The glimpses into the Paris fashion scene were very interesting. Admittedly, I knew nothing about Catherine Dior, and I love it when historical fiction teaches me about something new.

This was a fast read, and the characters were very engaging. I also enjoy reading about women's roles during the war, as those roles are often overlooked in history.

Thank you to Book Club Girls and William Morrow for the early read.

A beautiful story of two sisters who both participated in the French Resistance in different ways. This novel weaves in fashion and Christian Dior as well. The love story is sweet and adds additional depth to the storyline. One of my favorite novels of the year so far!

3.5 stars.
This book was good but wasn't great. It was an easy read that kept me entertained but I found I didn't really love any of the characters.
Yvette's love story and attitude at times really annoyed me. She comes off as too innocent and naive to pull off some of the things she does.
Overall good book, just not great.
Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read this book for an honest opinion.

What a beautifully written WWII historical fiction book and so informative (I never knew that Catherine Dior-sister to Christian Dior, the legendary style icon, played a role in the resistance during WWII!)

I adored this book, the setting in Paris, and the two main characters-Gabby & Yvette. Each of these women played their own part in the resistance, and although their roles were different, the roles definitely intertwine come together.

This book is full of strong female leads. Gabby & Yvette prove to be courage’s, daring, strong, and daring women who risked their lives and fought for what they believed in. Let’s not forget the Fabius Catherine Dior as well!

I loved the information, the little bit of mystery and romance, and the amazing well developed complex characters! The author did such an amazing job with character development-as I adored them all.

Sisters of the Resistance by Catherine Wells is a fascinating look inside Catherine Dior’s Paris Spy network during WWII in occupied France. I have been reading all the WWII books in recent years and this one does not disappoint. I love reading about how everyday women were recruited and the lengths they go to try and help the resistance efforts. These women were incredibly brave. In these stories, the reader can feel their conflict at wanting to keep their family safe, but also feeling compelled to do something. They have to lie to their families to protect them and sometimes lie to themselves about how much danger they are truly in if they get caught. I could not read the pages fast enough to see if Yvette would be okay. Both sisters had to make difficult choices on who to save. I hated that the sisters went three years without really talking to each other, but I understood they were both traumatized. I liked how the author used the trial to bring them back together again. I loved how Yvette was given a second chance to model and that the sisters finally took time to talk about what had happened during the war. A tale about secrets, rebuilding trust, and second chances at love. Highly recommend! #netgalley #sistersoftheresistance #bookclubgirl #williammorrow

SISTERS OF THE RESISTANCE by Christine Wells is an interesting and well-written dual timeline novel told from the point of view of two sisters who end up helping the French Resistance in Paris during WWII. Gabby and Yvette Foucher join Catherine Dior’s group, unbeknownst to the other, one with enthusiasm, the other with reluctance, but both taking risks to do their part and protect their family.
The dual timeline encompasses both time during the war, and a few years after, as Yvette returns to Paris to face her sister, her mother, and her actions during the War, while Gabby seems stuck in her present, assuming her wounded British soldier died after leaving since he hasn’t contacted her but refusing to find out either way.
An enjoyable read as we follow the sisters’ journeys, full of secrets, heroics, and a touch of romance, Wells has created a novel that will keep you engrossed and turning pages as secrets are uncovered and the sisters embrace their past to move into their future.
Thank you to the publisher for an advanced reader’s copy of this novel. All opinions are my own and freely given.
