I think this is a great kit, with a lot of interesting questions and tidbits.
I admit I misread what this was, but I'm looking forward to taking this to my book club.

I think the background information and letter from the author makes this book club kit feel more immersive. The questions are good starter questions and the playlist and paper doll cut outs are cute. I saw other book club kits included recipes and such and it would have been interesting to include that element here.

I thought this was a sweet little kit. I really enjoyed finding out more about the genre. I am a huge fan of the traditional gothic novel, and I was thrilled to discover more about the resurgence and the domestic noir. It really enhanced the story for me. I was very pleased to see the playlist - lots of new tracks for me that I still need to investigate.
I was not overawed with the book club questions. They were a little basic and unimaginative. But the paper doll was very cute and a nice surprise. It bought back some childhood memories!

This book gave me all that I needed! I really enjoyed the FMC and without a doubt the rest of the characters. Every single character was essential to the plot and it made the reading experience even better.
The historical period the book is based it made even more eerie, added to the mystery as everything was still moving from the mystery of the pre-industrialized world to modern. The headstrongness of the aged characters to remain in maintain what was viewed as traditional and proper was an obvious struggle of the time to maintain control to what was once a safe status or way of being.
Going from the modern setting that is Mexico city at the time to an a small town abandoned by time, walking into this old used to be wonderful home. was so deliciously accurate, realistic as well as the place falling apart rotting down the beams not only by time but by the change in morals over time (there is obviously a more sickening moral theme in this book) but again it felt so true, so very much accurate.
Naomi was my favorite character overall, she was so headstrong and a young women of her time, and I LOVE that! she did get on my nerves sometimes but it would not have made sense for her to leave when I screamed at her that she should have.
I think their relationship was fine but definitely temporary, a relationship that is created out need for support and survival, but that once the characters have heads and moved on their might finds themselves separating.
The ending was perfect, if could change anything I would have killed Francis, I truly feel like killing the tree with roots and all works best unless the author plans on a sequel.
If getting readers to know and learn more about Mexico during this time and how some parts were as similar as their first-world counter parts than she did a great job. As well as the mystical parts that came a long with the indigenous/Spanish culture that brewed in all parts of Mexico.
I would not change a thing about this, maybe killing Francis.
I would read a sequel, but if Francis and Naomi are end game i probably would not enjoy as much.
thank you for giving the wonderful opportunity to read this book. it was such a great experience.

The resources for the Book club kit were fantastic and the extra insight into the background and why the author chose to write genre she did is fantastic. I also really liked the specific discussion questions. The dress up doll was a cute touch as well.

I wish I had known this Kit existed when I read Mexican Gothic Last year. While the book club questions themselves lacked a bit of depth, I loved every other aspect. The paper doll is beautiful and would be an awesome visual to match as your book club gets to each outfit in the story. The interview with Moreno-Garcia and other included texts add a layer of understanding that would definitely add to the experience of a future reread. I am very happy I downloaded this!

When Noemí receives a desperate letter from her newlywed cousin begging for help, she travels to the mysterious family estate unsure of what she’ll find. What she uncovers is far more unsettling than she expected—the house holds dark secrets, and the family isn’t eager to let her leave.
While I admired Noemí’s loyalty and strength as a character, I struggled to stay engaged with the story. The premise was intriguing, but the pacing made it difficult for me to stay invested, and at times it didn’t feel like a situation she would realistically find herself in based on the start of the book. Noemí was a highlight for me, but overall, the story just wasn’t the right fit for my reading taste.

I found Silvia Moreno-Garcia's letter to readers to be invaluable! The discussion questions are a little basic, but there’s still a good mix to help drive discussion during your book club meeting. I love a good playlist, and this one makes me want to assemble it immediately. The academic part of my brain started purring at the insightful essays on Real del Monte and the evolution of the gothic romance genre. But, hands down, my favorite parts of this kit are the art pieces - we get a sketch of the Doyle family’s snake seal and WE GET PAPER DOLLS! What a master stroke. We need more book club kits with printable paper dolls of the characters. This kit would be a definite boon to your next bookish get-together.

This book club kit is cute. It was nice to have the descriptions of the outfits. Thank you for the opportunity to view this book club kit.

For the most part, it was a decent book club kit. I think it might be better fit for those just starting a book club because the questions didn't feel super indepth to the story. Just asking the readers about their favorite character and such. The story was very interesting so I think there's definitely room for improvement with the questions.
The Playlist and paper doll feature were super neat though! That was a nice surprise!

This took me back to my childhood when I was playing with the paper dolls back in the day. The questions were okay, not great but not bad either. I enjoyed learning about the genre. The discussion questions were lacking and didn't seem to delve into the story all that much.

I really enjoy the book club kits that Netgalley and the book Authors create. They are each very different, but this one for Mexican Gothic took things into the next level. Paper dolls and multiple outfits! Wow, yes please. My jaw dropped on the floor, I expected to see bookmarks and reading trackers, but what was delivered was interesting historical information and printable dolls! The little girl in me squealed!!!

I really love Book Club Kits and this one was no exception. I think it has the power to really enhance the experience of reading the book and discussing it!

I loved this book this should be a modern day classic it was truly gripping I was hooked from the get go interesting and addictive and I've never read anything like this before

3.5 stars!! Wow what a ride!! It definitely took me a bit to get into this one but overall it was a fascinating story with great writing. It as a bit more gory than I realized it would be but overall the gothic setting was incredible and extra spooky. Overall I think this is a great book for spooky season and for horror lovers! In the bookclub kit there are these gorgeous paper dolls of Noemí and different outfits of hers, I'm obsessed! They are gorgeous! The 1950's gothic setting was new for me, but I loved it as someone who loves that time era. I loved our main character, Noemí. She was my favorite. I loved the sass and occasional comedic relief of her banter. Thank you so much to Silvia Moreno-Garcia & Netgalley for letting me read this!!

The idea for this is great - I like the paper doll activity as it took me back to my childhood playing with and dressing up dolls. However, I thought the questions could have been a little more thought provoking. While I like the idea of asking people their opinions on specific parts of the plot, characters, setting etc, I feel like there could be more depth in talking about motivations or speculation based on the characters' actions. As a book club activity, I think this would be great, but if it was going to be adapted into a classroom then I think the questions would need a little more depth.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me the opportunity to look at this book club kit in exchange for my honest opinion.

The book kit includes a letter from the author, discussion questions, a playlist from the author, a short history of gothic romances, and a Noemi paperdoll cutout.
I personally really enjoyed the letter from the author on the inspiration for writing the book as well as the history of the gothic romance genre and would have loved to read a larger excerpt of these sections. I also liked the author-curated playlist.
The discussion questions left me wanting more in terms of quality and quantity of questions. Many are generic questions that seem like they are suited for a much younger audience (that the book is not written for) and feel like they were written too broadly and don't leave too much room for open discussion. This book has a lot of mystery and room for theories, so I feel like twice as many discussion points are needed.
The paper doll activity is cute and unique, but personally wasn't something I think I'd use.
The book club kit is okay, but definitely needs some tweaking.

This was amazing the bookclub enjoyed it very much and the package helped with everyones reviews. Thank you

Its a great. I thought I was getting the book, but then understood a bit more of what I was getting. This is a guide if a book club was produced. The rating is for the book club kit and not necessarily the book.

This kit is a thoughtful companion to Mexican Gothic, packed with discussion questions, background info, and extra materials that really enhance the reading experience. Perfect for book clubs wanting to dive deeper into the novel’s atmosphere and themes.
