A Cowboy Christmas Legend by Linda Broday is a moving story that takes place in the old west. San Legend is a member of the richest, most well known family in Texas. His father is a renowned Texas Ranger and he had been for a while, too. When a gang he was chasing came for him, they got his wife instead and it broke his heart. He ran and landed in a wikieup, making knives, being guided by an old Native American man who late died. He liked living away from everyone. He let his hair and beard grow, seldom changed his clothing, and just existed, until one night someone broke into his place and held a knife to his throat. Turns out it was his neighbor's daughter, Cheyenne, looking for her friend, Tarak, not knowing he'd died. Sam stopped her and they developed a tenuous friendship. It seemed a week for visitors: another ranger, his uncle, and a little boy, starving and cold. The boy had a story to tell about a sick mother, a little sister stuck in the wilderness, and a missing father. Sam could not let it go, and soon he had gotten Cheyenne involved.

There are missing fathers, counterfeiters, gun battles, many knives, and a few handmade baskets as well. Sam is working through his grief and rescuing this family from near death moves his recovery along. He is a good guy, overwhelmed with grief and guilt, but determines to regain a life. He is clever and brave and doesn't make the same mistake twice. Broday has written a really good character here. Cheyenne is nothing if not unique: an activist in the 1800s. You don't see many of those. She has her secrets, too, and put with Sam's it makes a really good story. This is a many-faceted plot, well written and fast paced. All together it makes for a terrific novel, and the timing is right. I recommend it.

Sam and Cheyenne's story can be described as nothing less than heartwarming.
Though it must be said that both his guilt over his perceived role in the death of his wife. Coupled with Cheyenne's PTSD from her time as a teacher on a reservation school. Does a lot to slow the romance portion of the plot to what amounts to a two stepping crawl. With two steps forward equaling three steps back. As soon as one or both are triggered by the possibility of happiness.
(And they are triggered a lot!)

Thank goodness that this story is choc a bloc with outlaws, snowbound families on the brink of death, and friends from Sam's past. Offering him the chance to right at least some of the injustices of his past. By assisting in the capture of the criminals responsible for the death of his wife so long ago.

The true magic of this story however?
The intensity of the emotional bonds created between characters outside of that of the leading man and his lady.
Whether it be the rough and tumble respect laced banter of Cap and Sam.
Or the almost parental care with which Cheyenne and Sam take in and care for Ellen, Aaron, and their mother.
Their sincerity and complexities are true things of beauty.
And the fact that the story also manages to incorporate the hope and promise of the Christmas season makes this tale the gift that truly keeps on giving.

Reviewer's Note:
This book is the second of the Lone Star Legends by Linda Broday.

HOLY WOW!

I loved this story and it was amazingly sentimental to me. Sam senior's story was my first book from Linda Broday so reading about his son was wonderful.

Sam Jr. was a man who had found love and had it ripped away by a horrific act of violence.

Cheyenne has secrets, some of which could alter her life forever.

When Sam and Cheyenne meet there is an instant attraction and when two adorable children and their very sick mother enter their lives, they unite to save them. Little did they know that uniting for others would lead to them uniting for the remainder of their lives with a love that would save them both.

Phenomenally well written, amazing characters, a beautiful setting, and a complicated, unpredictable, and spectacular plot are just a few reasons you should read this book. I loved it and it will be on my "read again" list. This story is easily a 10/10, 5⭐/5⭐ book.

I just reviewed A Cowboy Christmas Legend by Linda Broday. #NetGalley

I have not read many of Linda Broday's books and was not familiar with the Legends of Texas. This one features Sam the grandson of one, son of another who does not think he is a Legend. Of course the story tells otherwise. Throughout Sam and Cheyanne keep working to save a family and bring the villain to justice. A sweet story set at Christmas.

Fans of this series now get to spend time with Sam Legend. Sam Legend seems to be the least civilized of the broad, numerous Legend clan. Sam likes his quiet, solitude. But even this bear of a man knows the downside of his habits. Perhaps this is just the season to show Sam that there is indeed a way to ease out of his self-enforced loneliness. And that just might be the erasable Miss Cheyenne Ronan.

Family is wonderful, at times just too much, but there’s no denying that the one thing Sam and Cheyenne share is their respect for family and tradition. Cheyenne has been teaching Apache children until recently. She lost that position when she balked at the dismissal of the Apache treatment. Learning was important. Tradition was vital to one’s soul.

Sam has been using his time to hone his craft into a business. Cheyenne is trying to discover what the future holds for her. They have more in common than they would believe. As remote as Sam has been since the death of his young wife, he remained connected, albeit by a thin thread, to the large legend brood. In fact Sam is intent on selling his knives in time to cash out for Christmas gifts. His generosity extends to a group of young children in need of some seasonal happiness.

The community is still rather rough around the edges. And even though the Legend property is far reaching there are those that feel free to sow their wild oats. Safety is foremost. And it now appears as though Cheyenne has caught Sam’s eye and his interest in keeping her safe has risen above his desire for self-imposed solitude.

Sam feels the need to separate from the family in some part to protect them. He failed to protect his wife. He lives with that guilt. Now though perhaps something has changed. Will Sam take a chance on a life and perhaps a new love. Or will the fickle hand of fate catch up to him. Can he take a chance making someone else a target for the evil stalking him?

As always Linda Broadway includes a delightful cast of characters in A COWBOY CHRISTMAS LEGEND. We are reintroduced to many of the Legend tribe. Cheyenne and Sam quickly become important to the reader. Linda Broday makes short work in getting the reader invested in their lives and story. The scenery is rough but beautiful described with a loving eye. We even have a wolf dog named Shadow to round out this engaging cast. A COWBOY CHRISTMAS LEGEND is a classic mixture of good versus evil. Classic novel from Linda Broday with just the right amount of intrigue and angst combined with love, family, tradition and the holiday season. A COWBOY CHRISTMAS LEGEND finds a place of honor in the Legend Family series penned by the creative Linda Broday.

Yet another great read by Linda Broday and a continuation with the Legend family. I was blessed to receive an early copy of this book from Net Galley.

Sam Legend has struck out on his own and made the decision to live a life as  simplistic as he can to get as far removed from the life he was raised with on the Lone Star Ranch. Sam lost his wife to murder on the Lone Star Ranch, therefore, everything and everyone there haunted him with her memory so he had to remove himself in order to begin to heal. He was sure healing wasn't even possible especially not until the criminals that took her were caught. Little did Sam know that with his move to the Texas Panhandle, he would find his true calling in life. Sam has very little contact with other people except on his trips to town for supplies or when selling his knives he has learned to forge. He does have a few neighbors like the Ronans he sees from time to time.

Enter the spit fire Cheyenne Ronan that has returned home to her parents ranch to find her parents gone, her dearest friend no where in sight and a stranger in his wikiup. Sam and Cheyenne's meeting is with Cheyenne pouncing on Sam in the middle of the night and putting a knife to his throat demanding to know who he is, where her friend is and why he's in her friends home.

Little does Sam know but Cheyenne will be changing his entire way of life from this meeting forward. First thing he encounters is what has happened to the Ronan's ranch hand plus he finds himself helping with two half starved children after one shows up at his wikiup and him needing to find his ill mother, his sister and their disabled wagon before the mother succumbs to the treacherous winter weather on the vast Texas plains. She and her wagon could be anywhere but Sam won't stop until he finds her and prays it won't be too late. The children need their mother. She and her two children were determined to find her husband, the kids father, before
Christmas when he didn't return to their home to fetch them like he was supposed to.

The search for the missing ranch hand finds Sam in the middle of an investigation that involves the Texas Rangers, danger, him going back to work as a Ranger himself and the case puts him investigating the very men that murdered his wife.

Did I mention that Sam can't get Cheyenne Ronan out of his head? Let the adventures, danger, retribution and romance begin. If you love a good romance, Historical fiction, holiday books or just a good read, you can't go wrong with this book. It's excellent, a very well written adventure that will touch on all of your emotions! A true page turner of a read from the first chapter to the last. After reading this book you'll want to read all of the Legend books from Men of Legend and this series. You'll be hooked.

Fascinating tale of the Old West!

Oh my, I couldn't have loved this book more! A broken-hearted Sam Legend has become a recluse after the death of his wife, until the neighbor's daughter, Cheyenne, wakes him in the middle of the night with her knife at his throat. After that stunning meet-cute, the romance takes a slow-burn path as both Sam and Cheyenne are risking everything for a local family in trouble. Trouble that, by no small coincidence, leads right back to the tragedy that Sam is still recovering from.

Cheyenne has her own trauma that she's still dealing with, and I loved her character so much for how she overcame her fears to help the Mitchells as much as she did. Sam is everything a gal could want in a hero, and I adored his friendship with fellow Texas Ranger, Cap.

Set in 1900 in Tascosa, Texas, this intriguing book led me to research that area and history more and I was thrilled to see how much of the now ghost town's history the author worked into the story. Everyone gets a HEA, except the villains, earning this book a permanent spot on my re-read shelf. This author has quickly become my favorite for Old West romance, and I highly recommend this story. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

The Legend name is as synonymous as the great State and namesake Ranch they call home, The Lone Star.

Sam Legend, Jr., is still mourning the loss of his wife, Beth, now living as a recluse on the Texas Panhandle-High Plains and carving out a new way of life, as a blade-smith.

Cheyenne Ronan is not afraid to get her hands dirty, she’s caring, loving, and a red-headed spitfire.
Fired from an Apache school, where she taught children, she’s trying to live her life without the demons from her past, rearing their ugly head.

When Aaron stumbles into Sam’s camp, cold, lost, and hungry, Sam knows he must act fast to save the little boy’s mother and little sister, stranded out in the snow.
Aaron and Ellen will melt your heart. They became such inspiring characters in this book and truly brought the joy of Christmas, into everyone’s heart.

The most unique book, Linda Broday has written in her career.
A Cowboy Christmas Legend is a fun, emotional, action-packed book, with nail-biting scenes, her readers will devour and adore.
I was given this book by netgalley for an honest review.

Will he let his past pain hold him from loving a second time …

I love those cheering the mood reads, the end of year stories always rise my spirit.
And here we have all the components for a sweet and tasty read.
Sam has seen his life spiraling down a year ago when his latest case resulted in his hound wife death. Since he retired and became a kind of ermite, drowning his sorrows and angst into his work as a bladesmith. Unable to bury his guilt and shame.
Cheyenne is back home a changed woman, she has seen the darkest side of humanity and still bears the scars in her inner core of her encounter with evils. Still, she does not let the shadows swallow her, she is a sunny being and prefers to see the best in people before the dark.

Their first encounter is quite animated, hold him at the top of her knife. Still, each instantly recognize in the other a benevolent good person. And while she shakes him from his voluntary seclusion, it is danger knocking at his door which will make really rethink about what life is, plus his friend Cad’s shake and knock on the head to get himself right back.
In addition, to the lot there are the fatherless lost children and their sick mother, some puppy and kitty and here is the recipe for a fun if turbulent recipe.

Cheyenne and Jack are sweet together, they quickly fall for one another, both make the other whole. Cheyenne brings light into Jack’s life while he quiets her demons.

A book that brings readers back to the importance of celebrating life no matter how difficult the hardships may be, learning from our past to build upon the future, and finding pure joy in Christmas. Author Broday writes with such humor I had to reread certain sentences to soak it all in. I love that about this book. Friendships are the stand true type ... forever and always. Family ... the Legends, always defend, protect, and fiercely love their own. This is a wonderful book and especially with the warmth of the Christmas season. An incredible story.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A Cowboy Christmas Legend is a heartwarming, action-packed romance that will leave the reader with a smile. This love story is set at Christmas and is a beautiful way to start the season. Full of spirit and adventure, this book will brighten your day.

Sam Legend II becomes a recluse after his wife is murdered. Sam escapes his famous family and lives simply and alone. Sam feels responsible for his wife’s death and is burdened with guilt. Cheyenne Ronan happens upon Sam, and their connection is instant. Cheyenne also has dark secrets she keeps hidden from Sam. Sam and Cheyenne must navigate guilt and danger to find their happiness. The couple had a spark, and the passion between them was romantic and powerful. Sam is an excellent character filled with honor, integrity, and strength. Cheyenne has a vast capacity to love. She has waited to find the remarkable man who will steal her heart. Cheyenne has power and determination, which is admirable. The couple can face anything as long as they are together. Sam and Cheyenne’s relationship is perfectly paced and builds at a fever pitch.

The plot was eye-catching and kept my attention. The story moved quickly and contained a vast amount of content. The action complemented the quiet, romantic moments. I enjoyed how instantly Sam and Cheyenne clicked. The plot displayed redemption and the healing power of love. The secondary characters increased the likability of the story. These characters are larger than life. From Texas Rangers to an impoverished family, the characters added depth and color to the plot. The backdrops of the countryside and towns are descriptive, and I felt I was there with the characters.

Linda Broday writes a tender and compelling love story with plenty of heart and adventure. This Christmas tale is warm and romantic. I recommend this book for lovers of historical western romance or trying something different and entertaining. A Cowboy Christmas Legend brings the joy of the season to the reader. I finished the book with a feeling of happiness and hope.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book through Netgalley and the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A pleasant western romance. The hero is Sam Legend, a Texas Ranger grieving the death of his wife, whose guilt over her murder has driven him from his family and his job to live alone and learn a new trade as a bladesmith, making knives by hand. The heroine is Cheyenne Ronan, daughter of his closest neighbor. Cheyenne has recently returned from serving as a teacher on an Apache reservation and has a closely guarded secret of her own.
Both characters are likeable and the setting is interesting. However, something was missing for me and I never felt truly invested in the story. The dialogue seemed stiff and unrealistic, especially the conversations between the two leads.

This book is the latest in a number of books by the author about the Legend family. I have not read any of the earlier books so this story may be more appealing to fans of the series. For me, it was OK but not memorable.

A Cowboy Christmas Legend by Linda Broday is the second book in her Lone Star Legends series. I have said previously that I love reading Linda Broday’s wonderful historical western romances; she always gives us wonderful stories, great couples and secondary characters.

We meet our hero, Sam Legend II, who is still grieving the loss of his wife, as he lives alone (away from family), and works as a bladesmith to make money. Sam has let himself go, with long hair and full beard, since he blames himself for his wife’s death, after the crooked Doolin brothers murdered her. He goes into town to sell his excellent blades, and on occasion sees his neighbors, the Ronans, as well as another neighbor; he recently lost a friend, who taught him how to make those blades.

One night, out of nowhere, he is accosted by a female, wielding a knife at this throat, accusing him of killing the friend who lived there. Sam manages to free himself, and learns the women is Cheyenne, the daughter of the Ronan family; he keeps her tied up during the night, until she calms down, and explains that their friend died of natural causes. Cheyenne has been away for a number of years, helping the Apache children, and did not know about the friend and apologizes.

In a short time, both Sam and Cheyenne become friends and soon they will start to have feelings for each other, but both have open issues to solve; Sam to revenge his wife’s death, and Cheyenne to reveal her dark secrets from her days helping the Apache’s. It was great to see them gravitate to each other, and the wonderful slow burn romance, especially with Cheyenne’s parents away to visit a sick sister, and they spend lots of time together

Sam will run into his old friend, Cap, who is a Texas Ranger, trying to stop the outlaws, who are also printing fake money; we also learn that the Doolins are part of that group. Sam will agree to help Cap to find proof. Along the way, a young boy is saved by Sam, and he brings him to Cheyenne’s place, and goes to rescue the boy’s sister and mother.

What follows is an exciting story with nonstop action, heart stopping dangerous situations and a sweet romance between two people that we could not help falling in love with. Along the way secrets are revealed for both Sam and Cheyenne, bringing them even closer together. I really loved Sam and Cheyenne, as their chemistry was off the wall, and it was beautiful to watch the love they had for each other. There was some humorous fun at times, with the banter between Sam and Cap. I also enjoyed the kids, Aaron and Ellen, as their mother slowly got better.

Linda Broday once again gives us another wonderful addition to this series which revolves around a fabulous western historical time period. Since this was close to Christmas, it did have a nice holiday feel closer to the end. A Cowboy Christmas Legend was a wonderful emotional heartwarming story, with a fabulous couple, great characters as well as exciting and suspenseful. I strong suggest you read A Cowboy Christmas Legend.

This book was a fine and good historical romance book. An interesting western and one of the first I read, it’s a good introduction to the genre and you don’t have to have read the previous book in the series to understand this book

Sam Legend II has exchanged the comforts of the Lone Star Ranch and the security of his family for a life of isolation away from the world and the constant reminders of his wife’s death. “A Cowboy Christmas Legend” shows that Sam’s life is no different from anyone else’s. No matter how far you run, life still follows you. In Sam’s case, it comes in the form of the Texas Rangers. Even in the remote town of Tascosa, criminal activity is running wild and places Sam right back in the life of a Texas Ranger.
I have enjoyed the continuing saga of the Legend Family and “A Cowboy Christmas” was a wonderful addition to the story. Linda Broday has a way of describing scenery to where the reader feels like they are standing in the corner watching the action unfold. Even in 110 degree weather, I could feel how cold Sam was he traveled through the sleet and rain. Her time spent researching is evident. I feel like I learn a little more history with each of her novels. The glimpses of Cheyenne’s life on the reservation, the treatment of the children and the rescue efforts not only add depth to Cheyenne’s character but provide a awareness that many history classes leave out. The description of Tascosa puts the reader right in the middle of a town known for gunfights and salon brawls. Broday even makes mentions Billy the Kid who allegedly stole horses from Tascosa and Squirrel-Eye” Charlie Emory who was involved in a deathly shootout in Tascosa.
Broday’s characters are well developed. Having read other books in the Legend series, I always enjoy when characters from past books appear. Even minor characters are developed in a way that when a minor characters loyalty is in questioned I would find looking at the pros and cons of their character to determine if they were a good guy or a con. Thankfully, Broday cleared up most of my questions by the end. I will just have to wait until she releases her next Legend story for the rest of their story. Thank you to NetGalley, Linda Broday, and Sourcebooks Casablanca for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

- 3.5 stars -

I absolutely love the characters Linda Broday creates. I am always able to fully connect to them and find them to be very likable. That was also the case with A Cowboy Christmas Legend. Sam Legend II, who is one of the main characters, is the son of Sam from To Love a Texas Ranger. Devastated by the loss of his young wife he decided to live on his own away from his family. He lives a simple life as a bladesmith. However, one day he is ambushed by Cheyenne Ronan who wants to know what Sam is doing on the property a friend of her lives. I loved the way Sam and Chey met. Sam wants to be left alone however, Chey isn't that easily persuaded. Both are haunted by things in their past, which makes it difficult for them to fully open up to each other.

I enjoyed this book, but it isn't my favorite. The main reason for this was the last quarter of the book, which I thought was slow-paced. I just got bored a bit towards the end. The characters were great and that includes all the side-characters. It was also great to reunite with some of my favorite characters from previous books. Linda's writing is great and she really knows how to tell a story. I also love the suspense/action she sprinkles into the story which adds an extra excitement to the story. Furthermore, the romance was steamy and hot, which you don't really see a lot of in historical western romances. This was a great book and I certainly look forward to what the author comes up with next.

I can't say enough how much I thoroughly enjoyed "A Cowboy Christmas Legend"!! Linda Broday has put everything in this story....love, passion, danger, mystery, the love of family, friendships....all taking place at the most wonderful time of year. I don't read many western stories but I'm sure glad I did this one! I loved all the characters (well, except for the bad guys!) and the setting was perfect.

Sam and Cheyenne's story is one that will make you believe in second chances (in Sam's case) and the magic of Christmas and all the good it can bring. Sam, having become a recluse, had only one thing in mind, to catch the man who had murdered his wife. When he meets Cheyenne, little does he know how she would save him from a lonely life. As for Cheyenne, all she's ever wanted was to find love and have children of her own. I loved how strong and loving her character is.

A beautiful and heartwarming story that I know I'll want to read again and again!!

I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

A Cowboy Christmas Legend is a heart-warming and compelling historical romance. However, it is more than just a love story. It’s a story about family, grief, healing, and second chances.

One of the strengths of the story is the dynamic character development, especially with the protagonists. Sam and Cheyenne are layered, complex characters, and they have such a wonderful love story. I adore Sam! He is a solitary man trying to start over after the murder of his wife. However, the murderer is still at large, and Sam can’t rest until he is caught.

Sam still grieves his loss, and he struggles with the trauma in his past, which is why he lives alone and away from any memory of his old life. It’s interesting because though he considers himself a solitary man, he has several close friends and a family who loves and visits him. He also develops a strong and quick connection to Cheyenne, whose parents he already knows fairly well. He has developed a support system of friends, and they often feel more like family in the absence of his own. A craftsman, Sam seems content but not very happy until he meets Cheyenne.

Cheyenne is an amazingly brave woman who fights for what she believes in. Like Sam, she struggles with things that happened in the past. She is a caring woman who puts her own life at risk to help others. She is fierce and strong, and her character is well-layered and interesting. She has such a vivacious personality, and her generosity knows no bounds.

Sam is beguiled by Cheyenne from the tumultuous moment he meets her. They have a wonderful connection and romance, and their chemistry is fantastic! They have such a deep admiration for and attraction to each other, and I love how they help each other heal. Cheyenne is like a balm to Sam’s soul, and with her, he begins to feel hopeful again. It’s like he finally came alive again when Cheyenne entered his life. Sam, in turn, makes Cheyenne feel safer than she’s felt in a long time. And the scenes when they emotionally open up to each other are beautiful! They seem to understand each other so well, yet they also keep secrets from each other. Luckily, their feelings for each other prove stronger than their fears, and their relationship gradually builds throughout the story.

Cheyenne and Sam find themselves caring for a very ill woman and her two children. This brings them even closer together, and there are so many heart-warming moments as they work together to help a family in need. It says a lot about their characters and their relationship that they are willing to put everything aside to help veritable strangers. And the kids are so sweet! They create this little found family and show Sam and Cheyenne a glimpse of their potential future together. Add some sweet and fun holiday moments, and my heart just about burst with hope for Sam and Cheyenne to find their happily-ever-after together.

As Cheyenne and Sam grow closer and care for their new friends, they also face the unlawfulness that is creating havoc in their area. There are whispers of a potential counterfeiting operation, the leaders of which could be the same men responsible for the murder of Sam’s wife. The closer Sam gets to the truth, the more his and Cheyenne’s lives are in jeopardy. It’s definitely an emotional ride, as Sam deals with survivor’s guilt and these new threats, and Cheyenne deals with panic attacks, fear, and guilt.

A heartwarming historical romance about love and second chances, A Cowboy Christmas Legend is a wonderful holiday read. Though it is part of the Lone Star Legends series, it can be read as a standalone, though I highly recommend the first book A Cowboy of Legend as well. Thanks so much to NetGalley, Linda Broday, and Sourcebooks Casablanca for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
