The book is titled The House on Sunshine Corner. It is set in a small beachy town called Heart’s Hope Bay. And that’s all you need to know, to know exactly what kind of story this is.

It’s a sweet predictable story with two MC’s who are on the straight and narrow path to their second chance at love. There’s not a lot of drama, there aren’t any villains, cancer or other illnesses aren’t lurking in the corner. There’s just a wholesome sensible plot with a conflict and resolution you can see a mile away.

I enjoyed all the side characters, there was meaningful relationship development, and I was rooting for their HEA. I’d definitely recommend this for a light summery vanilla vacation read!

I absolutely loved The House on Sunshine Corner. Abby’s struggle to find love while growing her business is struggled many women will relate to. The introduction of Carter, her high school boyfriend, is cute as he brings his niece into her daycare.

Abby has strong friendships in her small town. But she lacks the family she has always craved. Her mom never wanted her so she wants to give the love she never received. But finding the person to create that family with has been a struggle in her small town.

Carter hates his father so never wants to create a family like the one he grew up with. His family is creating a business of his own. He’s working hard to start his own architectural firm in Las Vegas.

Abby and Carter have different dreams. While they are each other’s once in a lifetime love their dreams pull them in different directions.

The development of this storyline is well done. Written from the perspective of both Abby and Carter you understand the struggle each have in this relationship.

And one mustn’t forget Hilde, Abby’s grandmother. She’s who I want to be when I grow up. Hilde “knows” things, she’s feisty, she’s a 70 year old women who acts like she’s 30. Hilde involves herself in everyone’s business. When she voices an option she is usually correct. She keeps her stink eye on Carter because he’s already hurt Abby once.

3 1/2 🌟 rounded down.

I’m sorry. This book was just meh for me.

Let’s talk about what I liked.

Characters were sweet and cute.
Love small towns.
Second chance romance….always a good idea.

There was a line that sealed the 3 1/2 star rating. All I am going to say is divested does not need to be in a hot steamy scene 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Overall very predictable. Meh. Would I continue on with the series? Probably. Would I lower my expectations. Yes ma’am, I would.

Abby Engel owns and operates Sunshine Corner, a daycare center in Heart's Hope Bay, Oregon. Abby has tried online dating and has found online dating is not for her. She seems to always end up with losers. Since Abby was a little girl she always wanted to have a loving husband and children. None of the guys she has dated have panned out. Then Abby's high school sweetheart, Carter Hayes, arrives back in town to help out his sister who has broken her leg and needs help with her three-year-old daughter Sofia. Carter left town after high school and he and Abby broke up. Long distance relationships rarely work out they agreed. But Abby was heartbroken. Seeing Carter again is tough but maybe they can agree to be friends.

Carter Hayes is an architect working remotely while back in the hometown he left after high school. His sister Becca broke her leg and needs his help. Carter loves Becca and Sofia so spending time helping out feels good as long as he doesn't have to deal with his emotionally abusive father, the father who never fails to tell Carter he will never amount to anything. Well Carter planned to show him. Carter is close to his goal of opening his own architect business in Vegas. One of Carter's duties while helping his sister is dropping off his niece Sofia at his high school sweetheart Abby Engel's daycare so there's no avoiding Abby. But does he really want to avoid her? Sparks fly every time they see each other. Carter can't act on this. His plans take him back to Vegas.

The House on Sunshine Corner by Phoebe Mills is the first book in this author's Sunshine Corner series. This is a lovely second chance romance. Abby and Carter are no longer teens and the eleven years they have been apart have changed them. They agree that their goals are very opposite. I liked how they both came to realize neither had been totally honest after high school. They both matured and realized they faced some bad family issues in their youth and had to overcome that. Their journey to a HEA sure had some pitfalls. The argument scene was heart-wrenching. I was so glad to see them talk out their issues and realize how much they loved each other. This is a good beginning to the series.

I received an ARC in exchange for a honest review.

I liked this book!! This was a cute, second chance, small town, girl next door, Hallmark kind of vibe book. And I was here for it!! This is a nice easy read when you need to cleanse your reading palate from the murder and mayhem and just read something fun and entertaining!

This second chance romance is so sweet I could hardly handle it. What a lovely, lovely story. With Carter trying to prove his dad wrong and Abby dreaming of the family she never had, can these two really make it work?

Despite me wanting a bit more conversation after Carter's grand gesture (which was then (mostly) taken care of in the epilogue) I just loved these two together. With the addition of Hilde, Savannah and Gia as supporting characters, this really was a book of sunshine.
Safe to say I am already eagerly anticipating book #2!!

The description at the top of the blurb for The House on Sunshine Corner describes this as a book full of ”warmth, humor, heart, and a dash of magic”, and I couldn’t agree more with that description.

The House on Sunshine Corner is a second-chance, small town romance and a debut book from Phoebe Mills. We meet our main character Abby as she runs The Sunshine Corner daycare center in the home where she lives with her grandmother. Just when she least expects it, her high-school ex-boyfriend Carter walks into the daycare center to drop off his niece, as he’s spending a few weeks at home helping his sister while she recovers from an injury. From that moment, it seems like they can’t escape each other around town.

I found this to be a great summer romance read. The writing was easy to get lost in, and even when it dealt with some more serious topics including Carter’s complicated relationship with his father and Abby’s struggles to expand her business. Some of the plot points were predictable, but I didn’t mind as much as I might have with other books as I enjoyed the characters, both the main characters and the supporting characters.

I particularly loved Abby’s friends in town and their bond. I also loved Carter’s niece and the way that she popped up throughout the story. Overall this was a sweet story, and I’m excited to see where the story goes in the next book in the series.

Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the digital copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

This cute novel was a sweet, summer read! High school sweethearts that broke each other’s hearts but somehow found their paths crossing later in life. They learn to depend on each other and that’s where the story really unfolds. After looking around online I’m assuming this was the author’s debut because I couldn’t find other works by her, but well done! Although, I found the plot a little too easy and light at times, and certainly predictable, I thought the novel flowed well and who doesn’t love a good romance that starts with a little frustrated back in forth in the beginning. Looking forward to seeing where the story picks up with her second novel scheduled for early next year!

Phoebe Mills has written a beautiful second chance romance with a great storyline and wonderful characters. I couldn't put this book down once I started reading. It made me laugh, smile, cry and really feel for the characters. They were realistic, fun, quirky and genuine.

This is the story of Abby, a young single teacher who is working to renovate her home from the daycare center to a full fledged preschool. She has been dating much to her chagrin, as the men have been, well interesting, but not potential husband-material. She has set her focus on renovating her place and helping her friends through their life situations when her high school sweetheart returns to town.

Carter returns to town to help his sister and niece while his sister recovers from surgery. Part of that help involves bringing her to daycare, at you guessed it, Abby's place. Abby is more than a little surprised to see Carter as is he to see her but they both play it off, ok. Over the time he is in town Carter is convinced to help Abby with her renovations.

Will the time together allow them to find the love they once had, or more? Or does it prove to them once and for all that what they were meant to find love elsewhere? Read this incredible novel to find out!

Wow! This book is fantastic! It is heart-warming, sweet, romantic, moving, full of powerful messages, and so much more! Whenever I picked up "The House on Sunshine Corner", I was whisked away to the small town of Heart's Hope Bay, and fell in love with this story.

This is the first book in Phoebe Mills "The Sunshine Corner" series, and I hope there will be many more! Ms. Mills' writing style in incredibly heartfelt, and, as the reader, I was hooked from the very first page. She makes the small town featured in this book come to life, and I felt like I was a resident of the town rooting for my friends to find their happiness. I could feel their wants, fears, and desires, and I feel like I got to know each and every one. I hope we see many of these characters in future books in this series!

Abby is such a kind, caring, loving, motivated, driven, and sweet woman. She runs a daycare for many of the children in town, and has always wanted a family of her own. She has dated a few men, but has never found someone who she is really drawn to since she and her high-school sweetheart dated years before. Never could she have imagined how Carter's coming back into town to help care for his niece will forever change her life, and perhaps offer her a second chance at true happiness.

Carter is such a hard-working, kind, and loving man who tends to put work before anything else. Carter is very driven by the feeling of always having to prove himself due to his father's horrific emotional abuse as Carter grew up, and into adulthood as well. Because of this, and because Carter never wants to possibly hurt his own family like his father hurt theirs, Carter does not believe he will ever marry or have a family of his own. He needs time to realize he is in no way, shape, or form like his father. When his sister Becca breaks her ankle, he comes back to his childhood town to help take care of her and his niece, Sofia. When he soon run into his ex-girlfriend Abby as he is dropping Sofia off at daycare, his life changes forever. Though he never stopped thinking about her, never could he have imagined how that one moment will lead him to possibly wanting something different than he ever thought possible.

(Possible Spoilers!)
Oh my goodness, what an incredible second-chance-romance! Abby and Carter are truly drawn to each other, and this jumps right off of the page from the moment they see each other again after many years. Their chemistry is so palpable, and they truly bring out the best in each other. Though they definitely have some disagreements and tough moments, they work through them, and realize just how much they actually want the same thing. I found myself pulling for them from the start. I do not want to spoil anything else in this review, so, I will simply say, the moment with the preschool at the end brought tears to my eyes...and the "Epilogue"...just...WOW!

I adored so many other characters in this book too! From Sofia (what a cutie!), Hilde, Becca, Savannah, Gia, Jenn, Marco, to Ollie (what a cute dog!)

If you enjoy contemporary romance, I highly recommend this book! I absolutely did not want to put it down, and found myself turning the pages to see how everything would work out. I am eagerly awaiting the next books in this series!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the ARC of this book, it is amazing! All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

A good second chance romance between high school sweethearts Abby and Carter. Overall a fun and easy summer read, and one I highly recommend. Likeable characters and small town atmosphere. What's not to like? Enjoyable read.

One of my favorite tropes is a second chance romance, so I was very excited to read this book. I enjoyed the small town setting of Heart’s Hope Bay. I can see many other books following in this series about the main character Abby’s friends. Abby and Carter were high school sweethearts who parted ways after high school. We come to find out early on that they parted because they wanted different things out of life, but Abby finds this out pretty late in the story. Carter returns to his hometown about 10 years after their breakup to help his sister and niece who need him, and sparks fly when he sees his ex Abby again. While I wanted to love this story, as I love a good second chance romance, this book felt a little shallow with little growth and change from their failed relationship to their new one. Some huge issues broke them up, and they didn’t really work on those issues, or discuss them, and both main characters lacked growth because of that. So that issue made this a 3.5 stars rounded up rating for me. This series has potential, and I do hope to see a story about Noah and Savannah come out next. I received an ARC from netgalley, and this is my honest review.

This small town second chance romance is a light easy read, perfect for summer.

Abby and Carter were high school sweethearts who wanted different things and went their separate ways after graduation. Abby stayed in Hearts Hope Bay (not a fan of the town name) and started her own daycare and dreams of having a family while Carter got out as fast as he could and wants nothing more than to work and not have a family. 10 years later Carter is back in town for a few weeks and when he and Abby bump into each other the chemistry is still there.

I enjoyed Abby and Carter both separately and together and I also loved all the side characters (especially 3 year old Sofia). I smiled, I laughed, I teared up, the steam level was just right and there wasn't much angst which I enjoyed. The only thing I did not like was how often it was mentioned that Carter did not want to stay in town and fall in love and start a family and that Abby did want a family. It just annoyed me after a while. I also wasnt a fan of the town name, it just diesnt flow nicely. But overall I loved this book and I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Abby has everything going for her, except for in her love life. Carter is desperate to get back to his life in Las Vegas. He is only in town to help with his three year old niece Sophia for a couple of months while his sister Becca recovers from a broken ankle. Fate would have it that he runs into his highschool sweetheart Abby, who runs the preschool Sophia goes to. Will the appeal of small town life pull Carter back in? The attraction between Abby and Carter is still there but so are the reasons that separated them. She wants a family and to stay near her grandmother and friends. Carter wants to keep climbing his way up the ladder in his architecture firm. Will he and Abby have a second chance at love?

This is a light second chance romance. I was definitely able to get invested in the characters, they had great chemistry. And the secondary characters were so well written, they were hard to ignore. The only thing I would say is that the romance was predictable but I don’t mind that in a quick read. It was the perfect weekend read.

Big thanks to NetGalley for the ARC, in exchange for an honest review.

This story is a predictable rom-com, however the characters - even the secondary characters - are so well-written, you get hooked rather quickly. I did like how it ended... no spoilers here... it was a surprise and sweet. I think my favorite characters were Abby's grandma and little Sophia. They had me cracking up throughout the story. This is a quick, easy read and would be perfect for a vacation book.

Thank you Net Galley for providing a free copy for my review. All opinions are my own.

The House on Sunshine Corner was a great quick second change romance to kick off my July reading.

Abby and Carter were high school sweethearts until they went their separate ways after graduation: him to University and work in Las Vegas, and her to return to Heart Hope Bay after studying Early Childhood Education to open a childcare centre in her family home. Fast forward more than ten years when Carter moves home for a few months to help out his sister Becca and adorable niece, Sophia while Becca heals a broken ankle.

In addition to the romance between Carter and Abby, there were multiple other story lines running including Abby upsizing her day care centre, and a pair of their close friends finding out unexpectedly they are expecting a baby. Many of the secondary characters are set up well for later books in the series.

Overall, a nice easy read with a storyline that cant help but make you smile.

When I chose to read this book, I thought it would be something entirely different. There is so much that this book could have been, but it wasn't. It is very definitely a rom-com with elements of chick-lit. There were parts that were just so unnecessary.

My favorite character was three year old Sofia, whose very favorite thing is whatever she happens to be doing at the time. She is a patron of the The House on Sunshine Corner's day care run by Abby. Her uncle Carter was Abby's high school sweetheart, but they went their separate ways after high school. Neither had any successful relationships since then. Carter has come back to town to help his sister, Becca, after she's broken her ankle. His job was such that it allowed him to work remotely. Throughout the book, Carter's theme has been overcoming his father's low opinion of him and his chosen work. Abby's theme is her desire for a large family and her desires and Carter's are at odds but the physical attraction they share is worthy of a few fireworks.

While I believe there needs to be physical attraction between couples, there has to be so much more to base a relationship, and the disparate ideas and ideals Abby and Carter have must be overcome to make this a relationship that will work. For the plot of this book, neither are trying to work in that direction.

Phoebe Mills wove a tale that could have been more entertaining without some of the superfluous stuff she included. The swearing did not add anything to the story and did not create a desire to continue reading for me. Two Stars.

Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and NetGalley.com provided the copy I read for this review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.

Carter and Abby were high school sweethearts who broke up when they went to different colleges. Abby returned to their hometown in Heart's Hope Bay, OR, but Carter pursued his dreams as an architect. More than a decade later, he is back in town to help his sister.

It was pretty clear from the beginning where the conflict would come from and how it would be resolved, making this romance more predictable than most. In fact, there was at least as much romantic tension and growth in their good friends' relationship, as Gia and Marco dealt with struggles over how to co-parent and lots of interfering advice and mom shaming.

But that leads to the greatest strength of the book. The secondary characters are fantastic. Their friends add up to an amazing cast of characters in a great small town. Sofia, Carter's 3-year-old niece, is utterably adorable. Everything she sees is her favorite. Hilde, Abby's grandmother, can predict who will be the next person in town to be pregnant and may have magical powers.

The first book in a series can be tough with the need to establish so many people and the place. I can easily see this Oregon coast town becoming the setting for many books to come. So I expect to read the next story about Savannah and Noah who seem to be set up for a great enemies-to-lovers tale.

Thank you to Forever and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy. These opinions are my own.
