The one thing that really stuck out for me about this book was that it was more a character story than a romance. I love a book that incorporates a mistaken identity, but this book took it a little too far, and made it less enjoyable for me.

I have enjoyed all of Elizabeth Neep's books so far, and I think they are getting funnier with each book! The Mix-Up starts with what could happen to anyone, a small mistake which then escalates into something quite large... Whilst Marley believes that posing as her friend Anna for a couple of hours to look around a hotel as a potential wedding venue for Anna will not cause any problems, she could not foresee that what would happen that day would mean she would need to assume Anna's identity for much longer than just a few hours... Can Marley hold it together to attain what she wants without causing any damage to her reputation or that of Anna? Will she be able to maintain her dignity throughout the Mix-UP?
A very humorous and lighthearted read which I would recommend to all those new to Elizabeth's work and those who have enjoyed her previous books.
Thanks to NetGalley for a Kindle copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

“It’s essentially about how screwed-up your life can get when you’re trying to stick to the narrow script you wrote for yourself way back when.”

Marley is a struggling actor, jealous of her best friend Anna’s success with the perfect job, perfect flat, perfect fiancée, and upcoming perfect wedding. When Anna asks Marley to check out a hotel wedding venue in her stead, Marley reluctantly goes... as Anna. But it doesn’t end there - as Marley forms new relationships as a result of the hotel tour, she finds that she’s dug herself into a hole. How she be able to tell everyone that she isn’t really who they think she is? The Mix-Up is is a quick, predictable, and light read with great themes of self-love and forgiveness.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookoutore for the ARC!

Marley’s is 28 and life’s not turning out as she expected it too. Her acting career is floundering and taking her self confidence with it, she’s chief bridesmaid for her high achieving best friend and has found herself organising the whole shebang. When Anna asks her to take an appointment at a swish hotel to view it as a potential wedding venue, the snotty receptionist mistakes her for Anna so Marley decides to be someone else for a little while, what could possibly go wrong?
This is being sold as a romantic comedy but it’s not really the romance is very much on the back burner here. It’s all about friends; making new ones, losing old ones, changing the ideas of what those friendships mean. Which is all fine and dandy but it means we hardly get any of the nice hot dude we just get the ratbag hot dude who is quite clearly a ratbag from the get go. The plot devise was also a bit frustrating because Marley could have cleared it up at any point these people are 28 not 18 but if she’s did that there would be no story I suppose. Xavier is of course the real hero of the book and he should have got a novel to himself.

Although I can see what some readers could easily dislike (Marley getting away with lying for so long, and Cameron thinking she's engaged the whole time, making it impossible to see a relationship develop between them througout the story), I couldn't help enjoying this novel. My favourite parts were everything about the acting project in which Marley found herself involved under Anna's name. Even if a couple of plot twists seemed a little too easy to guess, it was mostly a fun read, and I didn't find it hard at all to understand Marley's difficulty in finding a good time to tell each person involved that she wasn't Anna.

Thank you Bookouture, Elizabeth Neep, and Netgalley for allowing me to read and review an ARC of The Mix-Up!

Xavier is probably my favorite character in the novel! A lot of these characters had so many flaws and very human. I couldn’t believe Marley pretended to be her best friend! The is almost like a telenovela with so much drama and intertwining of relationships. This was a fun read and felt more of a happy ending for friendship than for the romance aspect. Check this out for a fun women’s fiction about the acting world and wedding planning!

Marley is a starving actor looking for her big break. Anna is her thriving best friend looking for the perfect venue to marry the man of her dreams. When a tour of an exclusive Hotel wedding venue pops up and Anna is unable to attend she pressures Marley into touring for her. A misunderstanding ensues and everyone assumes that Marley is Anna. Events of the night make it difficult if not impossible for Marley to reveal her true identity.

I enjoyed this story, I think it could be totally relatable and could honestly happen to anyone. I was getting annoyed by Marley not being honest with new friends, old friends, and her new crush. Lying about your name and identity is just very childish to me. All in all, there were some impossible situations that kept me rooting for Marley.

Thanks Netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

If you like books that hinge on a conflict that could be resolved with a single conversation, you're going to love The Mix-Up by Elizabeth Neep. Let me start by saying that the publisher's insistence on comparing Neep to Mhairi McFarlane is unwarranted and shows a total lack of understanding about what makes McFarlane so great; despite surface-level similarities (no explicit sex, a focus on friendship as well as romance, takes place in London), these authors do not write for the same readership.

The Mix-Up focuses on Marley, a liar; her entanglements with other Millennial liars; and the lies they tell. Acts I and III are passably interesting because characters actively press toward their desires (come what may), but Act II -- the book's longest section -- comprises Marley's repeated meditations on why she's lying to everyone, why she knows she shouldn't do that, and why she'll continue to do so regardless. It's repetitive and slow, and the urge to skim was almost overwhelming.

I read descriptions of Neep's other work, and it seems like "misunderstanding taken too far" is her primary theme. It's a pity, because Neep's writing is strongly voiced, sometimes funny, and often sweet... but there's not enough plot in The Mix-Up to sustain a full-length novel, and I worry that a perpetual focus on accidental circumstances will cement the kind of bad storytelling principles demonstrated in this latest take.

Marley is average. She's a struggling actor living with a roommate who spends his life smoking pot on their couch in.their apartment that isn't exactly homey. When her best friend Anna asks her to go to a hotel for a potential wedding venue appointment, Marley ends up pretending to be Anna to prove to them she "deserves to be there". Only her lie doesn't end that dag as she meets a.screenwriter in the hotel bar and they feel up on a competition where they could win $100,000. Desperately needing the money, and not wanting to lose a new friend, Marley pretends to be Anna far longer than she ever expected.

This book.was between four and five stars for me. Marley learning.that shes just enough as she is and that even.perfect looking people have problems was done so well. There's even a mystery woven throughout the story.that I thought I had down halfway thru only to realize that I didn't even know half of it! This being a rom com the ending is also so good because it could actually happen. So many romantic books end with everyone winning and complete happiness and perfection all around, and in life that's sometimes just not the case. Her finding herself.and her.tribe was more of the emphasis and I loved that. I read this in one day because I kept needing to know what happened next!

When Marleys best friend Anna asks her to attend an appointment at a wedding venue for her, what’s the harm in just saying you are Anna and carrying out the day. They will eventually realize that’s not the case if the real Anna picks the location, but for today no one has to know.

This is the premise of the story. However, Marley, as Anna, meets some really great people at the hotel. People she would be both working friends and real friends with. Hey work together to write a screen play for a tv show and enter a competition. How can she break the news that she’s really not Anna, she’s really single, down on her luck, struggling actor Marley. Will they really care if she lied about her name anyways?

I found I really enjoyed he story. Watching Marley have to balance her life as Anna and her life as Marley. Trying to find the right way to come clean to everyone about her true identity. However, there is one big negative terrible drawing of friendship within the book, and when I think of that plot line I really hated the book. I don’t want to give too much away, but toxic friendships and gaslighting are not okay!

I really would read more about Marley, or more from their author.

What if you meet the love of your life, but he thinks you're someone else?
Anna and Marley are best friends. So when Anna rings Marley, panicking because she has to miss a tour of an exclusive wedding venue, Marley agrees to go in her friend's place.
After being totally ignored by the glamorous receptionist who can tell she doesn't belong there, Marley meets handsome hotel manager Cameron. He assumes she's Anna, and instead of admitting that she's not the blushing bride, but the unlucky-in-love single friend, Marley plays along to see what it's like to be Anna for a day.
Anna has a high-flying career and is planning the perfect wedding. Why wouldn't Marley want to be her?
Only she wasn't counting on Cameron being so intelligent and funny. Or this spark between them that she can't ignore. She hasn't felt this way about a guy in forever. But he thinks she's somebody better.
Marley needs a way out of this mix-up to get her shot at true love. But her fictional fiancé is now standing in her way, and it's more complicated than she thought to stop living someone else's life.
A well-written, light-hearted book about friendship, perseverance and forgiveness, with a sprinkle of romance.
If you enjoy this story, you will also enjoy 'Never Say No' and 'The Spare Bedroom' by the same author.
I want to thank NetGalley, Bookouture and author Elizabeth Neep for a pre-publication copy to review.

This book’s main dilemma and plot point reminded me of How To Lose a Guy in Ten Days! Marley is an actress that is struggling to get her footing in the whirlwind industry. Her best friend Anna, has the perfect life with the perfect job and the soon to be perfect wedding. When Marley is sent to a bridal appointment for Anna, she quickly realizes that the world is different when she pretends to be someone else. In a rapid web of lies, Marley finds love, friends, and the perfect job opportunity, but everyone thinks she is Anna. How will she fix this crumpled house of cards that she has built without losing everything.

This book really focused on friendships over romance which was a refreshing twist. I do wish we had seen more romance development for Marley, but the power of female friendships was integral to the plot and her development. For a majority of the book I HATED Anna. I found her extremely self absorbed and overall, a terrible friend. She thankfully had her redemption for me. Reese was my favourite character in this book and I really wish the characters had blamed Jake over her for the assumed wrong doings. I felt there was a good amount of female support, up until the moment of cheating. This is my one big drawback to the story.

Overall it was a fun read that moved quickly and was easy to follow! Great to sit back and enjoy with my morning coffee! Can’t wait to see what else this author has in their library.

Even as a bit of a romance-phobe, sometimes you just need a lighthearted read that makes your heart smile. And Elizabeth Jeep’s The Mix-Up is exactly that book.

Marley is a struggling actress, with a best friend who seems to have her life together. When Marley has to stand in for her bestie at a wedding venue tour, everyone seems to think that she’s the blushing bride - including the gorgeous hotel manager. Pretending to be Anna, Marley gets herself tangled in a web of lies - that might have some serious, far-reaching consequences.

This book had everything - a loveable cast of characters, some laugh-out-loud moments, and (of course) a bit of romance. I fell in love with Marley, and got so invested in her story and her friends.

While this is a romance, it is ultimately one of female friendship. I adore a girl-power novel, and Marley’s heartwarming, ride-or-die friendships make for the perfect feel-good read. I read this in one day!

Marley is going to see a wedding venue for her best friend Anna, and when she arrives at the hotel and is met by a rude employee, she pretends to be Anna so they treat her with respect. What's the harm in that? But as the handsome tour guide, an incredible writer, and a gorgeous actor begin taking up space in her life, the lies get harder to keep track of. Plus, the real Anna is dealing with a thing or two of her own...

A quote in the book says it best: "It's a story of friendship and forgiveness. Where the men may seem Central at first but are a subplot at best." With tons of mix-ups, strong female leads, and a few surprises, this is a fun read that keeps you wondering how it will (or won't) all work out.

I discovered Elizabeth Neep last year and I've read her three books as soon as they have been available! I enjoyed them a lot, especially this one and The Spare Bedroom. They portray strong female characters with their flaws and insecurities, which makes them more real.

In this book, Marley, an aspiring actor, passes herself for her best friend Anna for a day, but the lies become more and more complicated.

I loved Marley, Reese and Anna, and of course the great Xavier! (I had a good laugh imagining him with the bagpipes). The best thing about this book is that it's not only focused on romance (although there is romance in it) but on the power of female friendship, on finding yourself, and the thought that it is ok not to be perfect.

I hope Elizabeth Neep writes another book soon!

This was definitely more of a drama style story focussed around female friendships and tackling life head first than it was a romantic comedy!

There was a little romance in the mix for Marley but it wasn't the soul focus of the plot like I'd expected it to be. Also, it didn't really come to anything until the very end which was a little disappointing.

But despite the lack of romance, the story was an enjoyable one that highlighted the power of real female friendship and how they can work through their differences to help put the world to rights. It was a great read to pass a rainy afternoon!

This is my third Elizabeth Neep *whoop whoop*. A huge thanks to Bookouture for my e-Arc in exchange for an honest review. This book tells the story of Marley who is an actress who is waiting for her big break when she gets a call from her friend Anna who wants her to go in her place on this exclusive tour for her wedding. . When she gets there she is mistaken for the bride but meets what could possibly be the love of her life. I enjoyed this book so much and stayed up all night to read it

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. thank you again!

I enjoy a good book rom-com every once in a while, However think describing this as such is a little misleading. There is a romance component but it is more a book about friendship. Which I found refreshing and atypical.

So I liked this but I wouldn't re-read or tell others to read this.

The Mix-Up... thank you @netgalley and @bookouture for an advanced copy to read and review!

I’m always up for a Rom-Com. I think describing this as such is a little misleading. There is a romance component but it is more a book about friendship.

Marley and Anna are best friends. Anna is a successful real estate agent, with a beautiful flat, and a new fiancé. Marley is a struggling actress with a roommate and not much money. When Anna needs her maid of honor, Marley, to step in for her at an appointment at a wedding venue, Marley grudgingly agrees. When the receptionist assumes she’s Anna, Marley plays the part; one that just keeps spiraling bigger. First, there is the attractive hotel manager that she has chemistry with, but he thinks Marley is engaged. Then Reece, a writer who is working on a television pilot script and wants Marley’s ‘Anna’ to star in it.

To quote Reece in the book, ‘It’s a story of friendship and forgiveness,’ ... ‘Where the men may seem central at first but are a sub-plot at best.’

That describes this book in a nutshell. Marley’s chemistry with Cameron in the beginning of the book becomes an after thought. Their limited interactions post-food tasting tour weren’t enough to make sense of the feelings Cameron had for Marley. When her costar Will appeared, Cameron was an afterthought.

The majority of the book was about friendship. How to adjust to growing up and your relationships changing, how to deal with dishonesty, and how to be honest with those you care about. While this wasn’t the romantic comedy I expected, I still enjoyed.
