I had already anticipated loving this book because of Felicity but I didn’t realize how much I would love this book. Felicity is probably one of the most relatable characters Kerrigan Byrne has written and I have read a lot of her books. The hero and heroine, although total opposites on the outside, are exactly what I love to see in romances, two people don’t seem like they would fit together but have an unexpected and thrilling romance.

The “Goode” family name has been through some hard times in these past few books. Felicity is the “good” one in her family but when her life is in danger from an unknown assailant, she decides to hire a bodyguard. Gabriel Sauvageau has lived a violent life and is the best candidate in keeping her safe. Watching and guarding from a distance, he has been keeping an eye on Felicity and has longed for her from behind the shadows.

Felicity and Gabriel are opposites but are so right for each other. Felicity is the shy, introverted bookworm with anxiety. Gabriel is the disfigured brute of a man who has lived his life in the shadows. What I love about Kerrigan Byrne books is that a lot of her characters believe themselves to be broken. Then either hero, heroine or both realize the other isn’t broken but just needs someone to help them through the difficult times. It isn’t about “fixing” one another but just bringing out the best in each other but also recognizing the “bad” as well as the good. This is what I love about her books.

The romance was so heart-melting and heart-racing. Felicity has a hard time being around men but Gabriel, not exactly looking like the friendliest puppy, doesn’t scare her. She is drawn to him. She feels safe around him. Gabriel feels he will never deserve to be in her light. Felicity and Gabriel have been through bad times but when Gabriel laughs and Felicity can stand up for herself, I know all is as it should be. When they look into each other’s eyes and accept not only each other but themselves I was brought to tears.

The plot was so good because I had no idea who was after Felicity. Was Felicity even the target? It was interesting mystery and ended in a way I absolutely did not see coming which I love. I was always wondering why there were three more books in this series and now I know why. I. Can’t. Wait.

This book is absolutely perfect. I keep telling Kerrigan Byrne is becoming one of my favorites romance writers!
Disfigured in fighting pits as a lad, Gabriel Sauvageau has lived his entire life without the touch of a woman. But that doesn´t prevent him for loving shy, bespectacled Felicity Goode. Even though he can´t have her, that doesn’t stop him from watching her. Guarding her.
Wondering if her gentle touch would soothe his savage soul.
Though she wiles away hours immersed in the pages of romance novels, shy and anxious Felicity Goode has vowed never to become a bride. How can she share a life—not to mention a bed—with a man if she can’t bring herself to share a simple conversation without trembling and stuttering? Once news of her obscene inheritance circulates through the ton, she is barraged not only by a slew of suitors, but also several distressing threats against her life.
What she needs is a bodyguard. The large, scarred ruffian she finds on her stoop is exactly what she has been looking for.
So why does his presence make her tremble in ways that have nothing to do with fear?
This is an amazing love story. It’s soooo romantic and sweet. I absolutely love the idea of a virgin hero. Felicity is such a beautiful soul. So tender and generous. Together they are perfection. The sexy scenes are emotional and hot at the same time. He fights his attraction all the way, but love is going to find a way to match these tortured souls.
Beautiful beautiful story. This book is a must! I highly recommend it!

I am OBSESSED with this serious. Amazing mental health rep. Social anxiety was covered so well! I also loved that they were both virgins because I feel like that never happens. Also, I was just swooning so hard. I think this might be my favorite book out of the series but I really don’t know.

THANK YOU for the ARC to read and review.

The most anticipated story in the Goode Girl Series and it did not disappoint. Gabriel and Felicity's story.
Gabriel falls for Felicity the first time he sees her, but because of his facial injuries and his past he feels he will never be worthy of her, but he continues to watch over her as a protector in the shadows.

Felicity, incapacitated by anxiety and an extreme introvert, lives behind the stories she reads. Her father places his entire fortune at her hands and now someone is out to cause her harm. Gabriel, now under a new name, vows to protect her.

These two tip toe around their attraction with a beautifully written slow burn.

I believe readers will be satisfied with their HEA and the fact that we have some surprises that will most likely lead to more Goode stories.

I freaking love this series!!!

Summary:
Disfigured in fighting pits as a lad, Gabriel Sauvageau has lived his entire life without the touch of a woman. As the brains and brawn behind London's most ferocious smuggling syndicate, he knows he doesn't deserve shy, bespectacled Felicity Goode. But that doesn't stop him from watching her. Guarding her.

Wondering if her gentle touch would soothe his savage soul.

Though she wiles away hours immersed in the pages of romance novels, shy and anxious Felicity Goode has vowed never to become a bride. How can she share a life—not to mention a bed—with a man, if she can't bring herself to share a simple conversation without trembling and stuttering? Once news of her obscene inheritance circulates through the ton, she is barraged, not only by a slew of suitors, but also several distressing threats against her life.

What she needs is a bodyguard.

The large, scarred ruffian she finds on her stoop is exactly what she has been looking for.

So, why does his presence make her tremble in ways that have nothing to do with fear?

Thoughts:
Once again, Byrne had me sucked into almost immediately. I was just going to read a few pages of this the other day and I read half of it in one sitting. I continue to enjoy the Goode Girl series as little side treats. I loved Felicity. Her natural curiosity and love of life is so beautiful. Yes, she is shy and has been protected for most of her life. But she isn't spoiled and she isn't stupid. When there appears to be threats to her life, she hires a bodyguard. She doesn't put her head in the sand.

Gabriel is a severely disfigured hero at the end of the previous book and I loved that he was so obsessed with protecting Felicity, enough to risk his hidden identity to keep herself while her family is away. He just can't stay away, but all he wants to do is protect and not get too wrapped up in her temptation. Of course, that's not going to happen.

This was another 5/5 for me and I continue to only wish they were longer. But I also love how quickly they are being released, so I don't mind.

I have been waiting for Felicity and Gabriel’s story since they first met and I hoped for sparks and holy wow did Kerrigan Byrne bring the sparks and explosions and heat that goes with it.

I have throughly enjoyed this series and each book has gotten better and better so this of course is my new favorite.

I highly recommend this book for people who enjoy romance or just well written and amazing books.

Tempting Fate is my favorite of the Goode Girls series so far! When I learned that Felicity and Gabriel would be paired together I wasn't really surprised given the interactions in the previous books, but I also wasn't sure what to expect. I was very pleased by the pacing of this book and the character development. I feel like both characters learned to come out of their shells a bit for different reasons and mainly with each other. I thought their relationship was sweet! It's a book I would eagerly re-read in the future.

One tiny note, there were a few occasions in the book that someone said "my sister" in French but it was written incorrectly with the masculine mon instead of the feminine ma. This would have been a simple check in Google Translate for anyone to double check the correct translation. I LOVED the entire book but that one flaw did stand out a bit because it was so easily fixable.

An incredibly easy 5 stars. Never at any point in the book did I even start thinking 'I don't know, maybe this will end up being 4 stars'. lol. I have really enjoyed almost all of the books in her Victorian Rebels and Goode Girls series, so I requested an advance copy to review the second I saw it on NetGalley (also thanks to Oliver Heber books for granting my request). And this probably joins The Highwayman and The Duke with the Dragon Tattoo as my all-time favorites of hers (and I've read nearly all of them).

The hero is a semi-broken ex-criminal-kingpin, bent on keeping her safe whatever the cost, (what's not to love really?) =D and the heroine is about as opposite of that as you can get, she's anxiety prone and a bit fragile (though not in a way that annoyed me as some weakling heroines) and is genuinely a sweetheart who is easy to care about. I love them for each other.

The first couple chapters pick up very soon after the climax of the last book, (about his brother and her sister) ,so it would probably add something to have read it first, but this fills you in on everything you need to know, so I don't think it would hurt this story too much if it were the first one you'd read. (Though there are of course spoilers for some of the previous books, so bare that in mind).

Gritty, steamy, swoony (he just loves her so much! lol). I read it nearly non-stop all the way through and was genuinely just delighted throughout. It won't be for everyone of course, but if you like any of her other historical romance, definitely try this one.

Someone is trying to kill heiress Felicity Goode. She decides to hire a beast of a bodyguard whom she does not realize is Gabriel, a man who has saved her before. Gabriel feels he is not good enough for sweet Felicity, but she feels she could have no other. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Oliver Heber Books for my honest review.

I really liked this book! It was a pretty quick read, but it was overall very enjoyable. It took a while for the characters to find their way to each other, but Felicity and Gabriel were so adorable that it was no hardship to follow along as they fell in love. Gabriel had a difficult past, but the way he loved Felicity was beautiful, and it kind of felt like she was his reward after he suffered so much. The little snippets with the rest of the Goode sisters were really fun and while I don’t think it’s necessary to have read all the other books in the series to understand this one, I would definitely recommend you pick them up if you haven’t yet.

Tempting Fate is the fourth book in the Goode Sisters series, that follows shy Felicity and rough Gabriel, each a sibling of the main characters from the previous book. The support makes the most sense if you have read at least book 3. Gabriel has faked his death in an attempt to get away from his dangerous life, but is drawn to Felicity, and keeps watch over her. After an accidental run-in, plus mistaken identity, Gabriel is hired by Felicity to be her personal bodyguard because she has been attacked after inheriting her father’s shipping company. Though Gabriel still feels that he is wrong for Felicity, they cannot help but be drawn to each other, and feelings develop.

I would rate this 3.5 stars overall. I was very excited for this story, and I really enjoyed watching Felicity and Gabriel fall from each other. However, I don’t think any story will surpass the excellence of book 3, which I guess is Felicity’s character problem as a whole - she isn’t the powerhouse character that her twin is. I think if more time was spent seeing her grow into her own, I would like the story more. Gabriel is a wonderful character, but again, I felt something lacking in his arc through the story.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

OMG!!!!! All the stars! ALL THE STARS!!!

I loved this book so much! This is the book I’ve been waiting for since the very beginning. Don’t we all just love the scarred and damaged hero!? Tempting Fate did not disappoint in any way. I read it in two sittings and loooooooved it!!! There’s so much I want to talk about but I don’t want to spoil anything. The love, the angst, the secrets, the big reveal!!!! UGH!!! It's the perfect Beauty and the Beast retelling. It actually might be my favorite retelling... However, it was more than just the retelling. Gabriel and Felicity just pop off the page. They were so real to me- their characters were so well developed and so lovely.

Just trust me, ok! Every new Kerrigan Byrne book is my new favorite but this one might stay my favorite for a long time

Kerrigan Byrne has created such a masterpiece of storytelling with this series! The book consumed me, I could NOT put it down!

"She was the music that one must be still and quiet to hear."

She took two of the most broken characters and gave them a way to bolster each other, support, and confidence in themselves. We first met Gabriel and Felicity in the earlier books in the series, so I was very excited to read their HEA. There is so much depth in these characters, they are perfectly flawed, which makes them so relatable.

"At the at a true smile touched his lips, one he couldn't suppress if he wanted to. 'Miss Felicity, if my manhood could be threatened by learning something from a woman, then I wasn't much of a man to begin with.'"

I cannot wait to see where the series goes next, we get a slight peek and it is GLORIOUS!

I have been anticipating Felicity Goode and Gabriel Sauvageau story from the very first moment they meet in book two of the series. Did it live up to my expectation? No really. Did I still like the book? Absolutely!

Kerrigan Byrne never fails to write amazing tug-at-your-heartstrings stories with a fantastic lead heroine. Felicity Goode is literally the kindest of the Goode sisters, and Gabriel has loved her from the very first moment he lays eyes on her. His past and disfigurement have always been his main reasons for avoiding Felicity.

He watches her from afar and protects her, but he can't bring himself to be with her. He fakes his death and a year goes by. He goes through "plastic surgery" to fix his facial disfigurement. He becomes a new man with a new identity. When he finally sees Felicity again, she doesn't recognize him, but hires him on the spot to be her personal bodyguard (after a series of attacks on her life). From there the mystery begins, as they try to figure out who would want her dead.

Overall, a great book with amazing angsty characters that sizzle with off the chart chemistry and sexual tension!

Thank You NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

5 stars

This is book four of the Goode Girls series and it did not disappoint. Gabriel Sauvageau has lived his entire life without the touch of a woman, disfigured in fighting pits as a child he wears a mask, has no nose and a drooping eye. In the third book, we can see he becomes enchanted by the youngest Goode sister, Felicity.

This is a slow to burn, angsty read. Gabriel is the perfect Beast to Felicity's Beauty. You can feel the emotion right from the first scene with Felicity talking to Titus about Gabriel. They don't even kiss until over 60% of the way into the story. BUT...this book is the epitome of Beauty and the Beast. The light and the darkness. Angel and Devil. Heaven and hell. It is everything romance novels should be. There is a mystery plot ofcourse, but the romance takes centerstage. The characters are both loveable and you find yourself rooting for them. .Felicity is gentle, kind and has social anxiety. Gabriel believes himself unworthy of love and happiness but has cast himself in the role her protector

This was my favorite of the Goode Girl books, with Nora's story being my second favorite (Book #1). Kerrigan Byrne has a gift of writing complex, strong and beautiful characters full of faults who you can't help but identify with on some level. It's also always nice to revisit the Goode Girl and the men that love them to see what they are currently up to after their HEAs.

I gave this book 5 stars. It hit every single note for me and I was sad when the book ended, as with it the series also ends. I loved the characters and the storyline that much. The heartbreaking story of Gabriel that makes him the man he is today, to the sisters' relationships and Felicity's issues with anxiety. Gabriel is the ultimate protector and you can see it in all the details of the story with how he treats Felicity and speaks to her. There is not one critique on this novel and for me, that is a five star read.

I remember first meeting Felicity and Gabriel in Courting Trouble (Titus and Nora's story), and how a single scene between them, Raphael, and Mercy set up the next two books in this series with marvelous anticipation. We see Felicity and Gabriel again in Dancing With Danger (Raphael and Mercy's story), where Gabriel's single-minded devotion to Felicity is once again apparent.

You have to have read those earlier books to follow this one, because Gabriel's position is fixed from the start: he loves her before the first page of this book, and that doesn't change. It was insta-love for him two books back, and if you want to experience the headiness of that, you need to read Courting Trouble. This book is about comfort--specifically, the comfort of an unshakeable love that would defend a sensitive and tender-hearted woman against a cruel world. If any love needs to develop here, it's Felicity's for Gabriel.

It does, in its own lightning-bolt kind of way, albeit for Gareth, Gabriel's pseudonym as he hides from the criminal syndicate he used to run. Felicity literally runs into him outside her home one day as he lurks in the shadows watching over her as he does most days. Despite having met him before as Gabriel, Felicity does not recognize Gareth: he has a new face thanks to Dr. Titus Conleith, and she's blind as a bat without her glasses. Thinking he's the personal protection she's ordered to combat threats and a recent assault, she hires him. She feels safe with him, not just physically (he's a hulking mountain of a person) but emotionally. From there, like and attraction grow pretty quickly on her side.

In Dancing with Danger, there was so much plot that the book could have been 100 pages longer to better pace the romance and the story. Here, in Tempting Fate, the plot is a bit slap-dash and driven by background characters readers are expected to care about in order for the conclusion to work. Like Courting Trouble, that action is meant to set up the next 3 books. Yet unlike that previous book, I didn't leave Tempting Fate wondering how quickly I could get my mitts on the next chapters for this family. A plot in service to the characters we already enjoy rather than one equally devoted to characters we don't know would have made for a stronger story.

There are quiet moments between Felicity and Gabriel that show the potential for greatness this book had to slowly build the romance and allow the characters to evolve. These quiet conversations and emotional connections make this a book Goode Girls readers should pick up.

I just love this series! I have been rooting for Felicity and Gabriel for a few books now and am just so excited that they got their HEA. I love the thread of intrigue in these books. I love how she leaves the door open for more. I just love this group of sisters and am so glad that I got to read them!
