Great book on breath work, it's importance. While yoga flows from one pose to another, great breathing is something that helps depression, anxiety and life's stressors constantly. This is a book I'll keep referring too.

Pranayama: The Yoga Breath is a short high level introduction to the basis of the yoga poses, the breath. It is a good book for the beginner and would be useful incorporated alongside a physical yoga program. The benefits of learning these breathing techniques are huge for our hurried chaotic lifestyles. Taking the time to learn and use them, even for just a few minutes at a time can have huge benefits. Overall a good introduction but would be better with illustrations.

This is a smaller book, solely because the author chose to focus on one essential piece of Yoga, the breath. Amazing as it sounds, even though who have no desire to exercise using the Yoga techniques can still receive benefits by learning and practicing how to properly breath.

I have revisited Yoga at different times during my adult life and have incorporated it into my life for the last ten years, exercising 5-7 times a week. I have no doubt as to the high level of benefits I have received, such as greater flexibility, balance, and in other physical areas such as keeping my blood pressure and heartbeat down (regularly around 110/70, with a heartbeat around 65). Although I work to regulate my breathing during my Yoga exercising, I have not worked specifically on the recommended breathing techniques. It was this reason that attracted me toward author Sundari Gibran’s book.

The first half of the book is aimed at beginners, introducing them to reasons why they should make the time to understand and incorporate proper breathing into their lives. Ms. Gibran cites the many health benefits, as well as outlining the consequences of neglecting this important part of our anatomies. Once the foundation was laid, she introduces some of the basic breathing exercises that almost anyone can practice.

The author offers a few books and websites for those who wish to pursue the study of Pranayama and Yoga. While all three are seeking people to join their paid courses, I found a lot of free info on yogapoint.com and doyou.com. I recommend this book to anyone who is seeking better health or to maintain and safeguard their current level of good health. Five stars.

...Sundari ..Gibrin
N.G...Books go social
A simple well laid outline for the beginner to the advance to learn about pranayama the yoga breath. For life style these days it is a handy tool that can be done in those few minutes to calm oneself down, or as a practice along with the yoga routine. Informative, and well done.
Given ARC by Net Galley and books-go-social for my voluntary review
and my honest opinion.

Being a bodhisattva, I try to live with the theme of Wise Speech. However, rating this book with only two stars... let me just jump in as to quickly remove the band-aid so to speak.

This book is not for me: I don't like the tone of voice, and words it uses to describe how others are at fault. Yes, yoga is not as uncommon as it was before and yes, that means some people are in it to make money, but does that really need to be addressed in a book about Pranayama breathing? That is what I was looking for: the pranayama and how this works within the body physically.
This is indeed explained in the book, but there was nothing new to me. And it didn't help that - again - lots of words were used to vaguely comment on other people, for instance:

'Higher levels of cortisol also accelerate the process of aging. Now, that is surely bad news for people investing in expensive surgeries to look younger than their age.'

or

'Youngsters (..) are always in a hurry.'

Always? All youngsters?! This made me not want to finish reading the book... Old people, youngsters, either of them not being into yoga or for the wrong reasons or being afraid of what others may think of them... all of them are fellow human beings, but this book was not trying to unify the difference between different people.

This was an intriguing read on the practice of yoga. It was quite a bit shorter than I expected, but informative and concise. I was disappointed to find that there were no pictures of poses or charts of any kinds. I still enjoyed the written part, but would have really liked a bit more substance and illustrations.

Sundari Gibran leads you from breathing techniques for beginners to advanced forms of Pranayama and lays the foundation for all the benefits you will experience. The techniques will have positive effects on your mental, spiritual, physical, and emotional health.

"Pranayama: The Yoga Breath" takes you to a serene, tranquil environment mentally. The feeling is extremely refreshing as compared to being trapped in a concrete jungle all the time. You may be in the middle of a chaotic workplace and yet feel like you're visiting somewhere pleasant.
I throughly enjoyed reading this book and although I’ve attended many yoga classes in my time it was enjoyable to now understand the health benefits from deep breathing and the connection with the vagus nerve and calming of the central nervous system.
Recommend fully ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
