Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

This unfortunately was a DNF for me. It was slow, and even for an ARC there was waaaaayyyyy tooo many grammatical errors to try and look past

Will has a complicated life. He has many conflicting emotions and many connections. He is meant to help cops get out of trouble but it seems trouble finds him sometimes. I have a background in criminal justice so I feel I can be extra critical on criminal justice fiction. This was a great read. This tackles police and communitry crimes, the hierchy within the police departement and outside of it, love, the various versions of the truth and knowing what the right thing to do is. This book is good for present times as race is tackled but it will also be good in five to ten years from now. This is not what I consider lighthearted but more gut wrenching.

I gotta admit- I just couldn't finish this because it felt too much like reading or watching the news. I appreciate that Rueland has brought his considerable experience to bear in telling the story of a police shooting and its aftermath but.....Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Others might enjoy this for Rueland's perspective.

I did not finish this book. There were to many grammatical errors and run on sentences, that it made it hard to read. The storyline sounded interesting. Cop is a accused of killing a kid, But, the execution of the story I couldn’t get into. The way the cops talked to each other, I felt like I was watching a bad cop show from the 60’s.

Well developed, realistic characters. The story is right out of the headlines with an interesting twist. Really enjoyed this and will read more by this author. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book

One person’s truth may not match another’s or even The Truth if there is such a thing in police-community relationships. The truth disappears and morphs so many times in this story as a young cop shoots a robbery suspect. The police protective officer who gets involved is the protagonist, but he’s dealing with so many conflicting emotions. His relationships with his dad, ex-wife, girlfriend, childhood sweetheart, DA’s, newspaper reporters, judges, o-workers, and others make for a great story.
