Daniel Steele writes historical fiction/romance in a way that leaves the readers uplifted and feeling the world and all its hardships will be ok. Her heroines are often glamorous and beautiful. "Flying Angels" is Danielle Steele's latest in the genre and is a story of several nurses from the United States who volunteer to provide nursing thru airlifting the wounded from the European battlefields. It is a unit that saves lives due to its quick transport but also puts these flight nurses in danger.
The book attempts to address the issue of racism in the World War II-era as well as the gender inequity of the era. Those who returned home from service in World War II and those who served on the home front did make a difference in attitudes. The many losses of young persons who served are given coverage in the book as well as some coverage given to the post-traumatic issues that returning servicemen and their families experienced.
This book is a broad overview of many things and does what most of Danielle Steele's books do and leaves the reader uplifted. there were several main characters used to address the issues of the era and it tended to make the storyline lighter and less traumatic. It is a book worth reading and hopefully will encourage the reader to dig deeper into the real stories of the World War II men and women who saved the world. Thanks to #FlyingAngelsNetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
