Not everyone takes social anxiety seriously. If someone is shy they tell them to just get over it or they tend to talk to them more or push them into activities to help them feel more comfortable. More often than not this does not help even though the person or persons are trying to help it often has the opposite effect. It leaves the person more uncomfortable. As a teen with social anxiety, there are many social events and activities they are experiencing from school related to other events. Helping teens at a young age can help them later in life. This book is designed to help. SAD or social anxiety disorder is something that not only a few teens deal with and knowing that helps. Then presenting some ideas to help deal with the feelings can help as well. This book provides ideas and steps. The goal is to help teens gain confidence and happiness.

There are exercises, strategies, and other skills included in this book. It is best to go through this book with your teen. This is a team effort. The information is good and helpful. But, someone with social anxiety might benefit more from working through it with their trusted person or family members. It can also lead to wonderful discussions and getting to know one another better. This is a book recommended by a therapist, but it is up to you if you want to read it and feel it will benefit you or a loved one.

I think it’s helpful if the reader is ready to commit and make change, which I know is hard when your brain is working against you AND it’s your teenage years.

I was extremely interested in this book as I have two teens who deal with crippling social anxiety. It's well written and can definitely help some people. But it doesn't hit me the way I needed it to.

I was really impressed with the structure and advice in this book, and the level at which information was presented for teenagers—accessible and achievable, with zero infantilizing for intended readers. Presented with compassion and practical tips, this will be a strong addition to both my work library and my personal one.

Anxiety is so prevalent at every age, especially with the demands that are placed on us living in fast paced society. Teens are not immune to suffering from anxiety or depression. Regine Galanti has provided a manual for teens to explain different techniques that they can use to combat anxiety. This book provides a wide array of exercises, self-assessments, strategies, and skills to help teens understand their anxiety and how to combat it. This book attempts to have the teen explore their social anxiety by having them endorse symptoms and explains what social anxiety is. The following chapters provide tools and strategies for dealing with the anxiety. Lastly, the book explores exposures and how to face your anxiety. This book is one that can be used alone by the teen wanting to improve his/her anxiety or as an “add on” to therapy sessions with a trained child psychologist as a “workbook” between sessions. I highly recommend this book. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the advance review copy in exchange for my honest review.

As the mother of a son that suffers from social anxiety and ADHD I could read it with him in mind for strategies to help him. However, a teen with anxiety could not go through this workbook alone or use the questionnaires in an anonymous way. A lot of good information, but I think it would cause more anxiety as it is a formidable to work through.

This book is written with a thorough and compassionate view toward teens, and anyone really, who suffers from social anxiety. There is a simple to understand and implement step-by-step behavior modification program explained to help those who suffer in order to enjoy the school, work and social aspects of life. I think many of us have experienced certain level of social anxiety through the lockdowns, quarantines and isolation of this pandemic and could find useful tools to help reintegrate back into society as we try to find that “new normal” of living with Covid.

Thank you to Netgalley, New Harbinger Publications, and Bridget F. Walker for this eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

This didn't help me. It was informative and provided real life situations, but I'm not actually going to do these things. (I don't rate nonfiction, but I would give it 3 stars)

I downloaded this book as I suffer from social anxiety and I was hoping that there may be some wisdom that would apply to me as an adult. Although it’s geared towards teens it’s good to read some background on the condition and there were some helpful insights that applied to me as well. I have a young daughter who also suffers from social anxiety even at a young age so I’m hoping this will help her in the future as well.

I definitely thought this book was very realistic in its depiction of teens, especially with its descriptions of several teens. I’m sure that other teens like me will find this very helpful!

A useful resource and a helpful guide that is beneficial for both teens, and the adults who support them. This book will be helpful to adolescents struggling with anxiety, either as a a stand-alone guide to provide cognitive-behavioral strategies for anxiety, or as an adjunct to treatment. Practical tools for explaining/understanding anxiety and establishing coping skills. Highly recommend!

The author did a great job explain and giving examples of the ways anxiety can manifest. I’m not sure how well these tips will work for teens that are not already working with a therapist who can walk them through.

Great explanations and easy workbook to aid client's with SAD in addition to receiving therapy from a trained clinician

The book described social anxiety very well and what it would look like in real-world situations. the author also describes what the internal monologue of someone with anxiety sounds like. The book takes the readers through everyday situations through the eyes of someone with anxiety and describes the types of behaviors that could be helpful. I liked that it gave ways to understand your "trigger situations" and how you can expose yourself to them

Change begins with understanding, and this book begins with explaining not just what social anxiety is, but by providing lots of examples of the myriad ways it can manifest. Recognising yourself in the examples makes you feel less alone and freakish for a start. It then moves on to techniques to deal with it. Compassionately written, and convincingly positive about change.
