This book was sent to me on Kindle by Netgalley for review. It is not the type of book I usually read, but it was, at times, intriguing. The characters are not heartwarming, but it is not a heartwarming book. Try this one.

PI Laney and her son have settled in a nice, quiet little town in New York state. But any chance of a peaceful transition to the neighborhood goes up in smoke when a block party ends with violence and the disappearance of Laney’s friend. Laney is prepared to use her skills to figure out what happened, but residents are suspicious of her. They believe she, and her highly atypical son, are somehow involved. In order to prove her innocence, find a place in the community and protect herself and her son, Laney must crack a mystery that extends beyond her new neighborhood. Creepy neighborhoods and bad neighbors are the ultimate nightmare and Naymark scared the hell out of me
