This book is one of those romances where the tension the characters have is better than the relationship when they get together. I was INVESTED for the first 80% (because yes this is a slowww burn) and read it in one sitting. That meet cute (more like meet disaster tbh) was iconic. But, once they got together...Idk it didn't work for me. I really did not like how the two of them handled the final conflict/tension between the two of them.

I did really like Hayes as a character, he is awkward and shy and truly cannot form a coherent sentence when the pressure is on and I love him for it!! He cares about the environment, is surprisingly sarcastic, and just cares about the people around him (tad weird that his family never came up, but whatever they seemed lame).

Franny was fine, but she did not stand out to me as a character. She had a lot going on and I think parts of her personality got a bit lost in the mix. I did love her friendships with Lola and Cleo and wish their text messages were formatted better in the ARC copy I had because I LOVE a group chat.

I definitely needed this book. It falls solidly in the rom com category — a fortuitous meeting, a few inconvenient issues that threaten the HEA, and then the “big reveal” ending. The story starts with Franny losing her job, and seemingly everything else in her life. She runs into Hayes on the metro, and he saves her from total embarrassment by lending her his jacket. There’s instant attraction, but they don’t act upon it. Someone posts the entire encounter on social media, and Franny and Hayes have to decide if the chance encounter should turn into something more.

Likes:
- The book really captured how I feel about NYC - the city was a character in itself, and it was fun spending time there. You could tell Kate Spencer had spent a lot o time there, and her love for the city really came through in the writing.
- Kate Spencer tackles some current issues, like what today’s job market is like, how expensive it is to live in the city, and how much of our lives we should give to “live to work”, versus “work to live”. I empathized with Franny throughout her ups and downs with losing her job and then trying to carve out another path.
- Franny and Hayes are believable (and likable) characters, who I’m rooting for the entire time. Each has a three dimensional past — whether it’s Franny’s search for her family, or Hayes dealing with the shadows of a failed marriage.
- For the most part, the romance is light (what I was in the mood for) and the steam factor was 2 on a scale of 5 for me.
- Great supporting cast of characters - I liked each of Cleo, Lola and Perrine and the support that they provided to Franny and Hayes.
- I liked the family subplot, and really wish that there had been more space to develop it more.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one, and would happily pick up another book by Kate Spencer in the future!

Thank you to NetGalley, Forever & Kate Spencer for the ARC.

A satisfying romcom with New York as the backdrop. Franny is relatable and adorable with amazing supporting friends. The meet cute between her and Hayes is hilariously perfect. After this though their relationship took so long to develop even though the chemistry was off the charts from the beginning. So the title in a New York minute just doesn’t seem to apply anywhere. Overall though it’s a perfect quick read.

In a New York Minute was exactly the book my heart needed. It was hilariously relatable and an ode to love in all its forms. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one after hearing about it and jumped at the chance to read it early. I haven’t been this consumed by a book in a while and I did not want to put this one down once I started.

A few things you can look forward to:

- Amazing female friendships! Found families are always a highlight and this might be my favorite fictional friend group ever. Cleo, Lola, and Franny are all so incredibly supportive and loyal to one another, with just the right amount of snark and sass. I was laughing every time they were on the page together and they balanced the story so well.
- An epically disastrous meet cute with a wardrobe malfunction and a viral hashtag. #SubwayQTs for the win!
- Did I mention lots and lots of laughs?! Like “I accidentally woke up my husband snort laughing” kind of laughs and plenty of second hand embarrassment to go around.
- A workaholic starchy hero with a huge heart and an adorkably quirky heroine. Hayes and Franny were so cute and wonderfully awkward together (cringe worthy at times!), but I couldn’t help but love them. The build up and sexual tension was so well done that I didn’t mind that the steam was more closed door/fade to black.
- Enemies-ish to friends to lovers slow burn goodness with a heaping cup of opposites attract/grumpy + sunshine and a dash of forced proximity
- A love letter to New York. I’ve only had the opportunity to visit New York twice, but I could clearly see and feel the city throughout the book. The magic came right through the pages and New York was as much of a character in the book as Franny and Hayes. I also am now craving bagels.

There is some late drama that made the ending feel a bit rushed and I would have loved a little more grovel and an epilogue, but the last scene was such a beautiful way to bring the story full circle. In a New York Minute brought me such joy while reading it and left my heart so full. I’m excited to see what Kate Spencer writes next.

CW: death of parent (past), financial concerns due to loss of employment, DNA testing, complicated/strained parental relationships, hospitalization of family member (heart related)

This book was a delight to read. I loved Franny and Hayes with all their quirks and great group of friends and a wonderfully detailed NYC backdrop that brought back lovely memories of the city that was once my home. In a New York Minute is filled with funny moments, some farfetched and wacky, but well written so you just go along for the ride. It's also full of heart, Franny and Hayes are realistic and so easy to empathize with. I highly recommend this one and would pick up another book by this author in a heartbeat.

Thank you to NetGalley and Forever Grand Central Publishing for an e-book copy of IN A NEW YORK MINUTE to review. I loved this rom-com about Franny and Hayes who meet on the subway in NYC when Franny literally loses the back of her dress. Hayes is there to help her offering his suit coat as a coverup. The two become a viral sensation and keep meeting in the city and all of it's glory.

Being from the South, I'm always fascinated by stories set in NYC. Millions of people, living in expensive tiny apartments - it never sounds enticing - upon first glance. Yet, authors write love letters to the city in their books. Kate Spencer certainly did that by having Franny and Hayes espouse the pros and cons of being in a city that wraps you like a blanket of comfort when you most need it.

Franny is the fun, light-hearted best friend you wish you had, while Hayes is actually a very nice person disguised as a serious business grump of a man. The two push each other to become better versions of themselves.

Kate did an excellent job of describing New York the way Nora Ephron always did - as a city that brings out the twinkle and magic in two characters who deserve happiness.

I rate IN A NEW YORK MINUTE four out of five stars.

In the middle of the worst day Franny Doyle has ever had, a stranger on the subway saves her from an embarrassing situation by giving her his suit jacket. Despite seeming like complete opposites, as Franny and Hayes keep running into each other, they find themselves enjoying each other's company.

The characterizations in this book were great. Franny is struggling to find herself as she tries to decide where she wants to go in her life now that she's forced to change her current situation. Meanwhile, Hayes is still dealing with his emotions from his past relationship. I found myself really feeling for Hayes as he tried to process his insecurities - I found some of the Hayes chapters to be some of the standouts of this book. Hayes as an awkward love interest was so good and I loved him so much. I also really enjoyed reading about all these people who were in Franny and Hayes' circles. Cleo, Lola, Eleanor, and Perrine all seem like the really solid, ride-or-die friends that you'd want to have by your side as you try to navigate through your life.

I found all the ways that Hayes and Franny ran into each other after the initial debacles around the Subway were over to be very cute, building up their relationship slowly with witty banter and slowly opening up to each other. Setting their love story up in New York City is a classic rom-com move, and I enjoyed exploring the city as they introduced each other to things they loved in the City that Never Sleeps.

However, I had an issue with this big conflict in that it felt a bit like it came out of the left field. It just felt so uncharacteristic and forced a wedge between the two characters that did not feel natural in the direction the storytelling was going to go - it felt like we had to have this conflict just because that's what a story like this expects at this point in the story, rather than a conflict that happens at this moment because of other points that were building to this moment. Even how they resolved the big conflict seemed to be a mess of lack of understanding of how the other communicates and proceeds to then be a few misses in communication even for a romance novel that ties things together neatly. I know that the way each of them tried to resolve their conflict was painted as a grand romantic gesture the way you'd seen in a Hallmark movie, but I couldn't help but feel as I read the ending that I wasn't convinced their relationship could work out in the long term - a weird feeling that I don't often get from reading romance, and a big shame since I'm really rooting for Franny and Hayes.

I also wasn't really sure what to make of Franny's attitude toward her financial situation - she seemed to oscillate between panicking about her lack of money to make rent and pay bills and talking about how she'd splurge/had splurged in the past toward something that's a luxury item, and it kept happening to the point where it became hard for me to feel sympathetic about her money struggles.

Overall, a light-hearted rom-com that I enjoyed reading.

Franny Doyle is having the worst day. She’s been laid off from her (admittedly mediocre) job, the subway doors ripped her favorite silk dress to ruins, and now she’s flashed her unmentionables to half of lower Manhattan. On the plus side, a dashing stranger came to her rescue with his (Gucci!) suit jacket. On the not-so-plus side, he can’t get away from her fast enough.

Only Franny and Hayes couldn’t be a more disastrous match. She’s fanciful, talkative, and creative. He’s serious, shy, and all about numbers. Luckily, in a city of eight million people, they never have to meet again. Yet somehow, Hayes and Franny keep running into each other—and much to their surprise, they enjoy each other’s company. A lot. But when Franny’s whole world is turned upside down (again!), can she find the courage to trust in herself and finally have the life—and love—she’s always wanted?

A very cute rom-com. I love both of the main characters. They are very different but they do fit together so well. I love their banter and accidental meetings. :) Their friends are so funny too and it's a total blast to read about them. NYC is also my favorite setting so this book hits all my favorite tropes. :)

Thanks to the publisher for providing an arc.

Franny Doyle gets sacked from her job as a corporate interior designer at Spayce in NYC. The morning she gets fired, she takes the subway back to her home in Brooklyn. The back of her favorite silk dress gets stuck between the subway doors and her dress ends up ripping down the back exposing her to the world. A hot "suit" named Hayes Montgomery comes to her rescue and gives her his Gucci suit jacket to cover herself. She becomes a blubbering mess and he can't get away from her soon enough. Franny thinks that she will never see him again but someone on the subway has shared their whole exchange on Instagram and they become the newest social media sensation - people are dubbing them the #SubwayQTs.

They both are invited to appear on a popular NYC morning show and it ends up being the worst "date" ever. In a crazy twist of fate, they end up running into each other. Hayes, a co-founder of an environmental finance firm, in a pinch, hires newly unemployed Franny to design their new Manhattan office. They could not be more different - Franny is free-spirited and down to earth while Hayes is reserved, broody and particular, but they find that they enjoy each other's company the more they hang out.

I really enjoyed this book! I was getting Serendipity vibes from it. This rom-com was light, witty, fun and I loved Franny and Hayes' chemistry. I loved the dual POVs and all of the characters - Franny and Hayes were both very likeable and I adored Franny's best friends! I could totally see this being made into a movie - it has the perfect plot for it! This is a relatively clean romance - lots of sexual tension but no explicit sex scenes. I would've loved it to be more steamy but I still enjoyed the book! I would definitely recommend this!

Thank you, NetGalley, Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and Kate Spencer for providing me with an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

In a New York Minute by Kate Spencer is a wonderful contemporary romance that is sweet, funny, witty, and oh so entertaining.

I really enjoyed this romantic comedy. It was light, fun, energetic, and addictive. I loved the dialogue, banter, the laugh out loud moments, and just the story line itself.

Franny and Hayes are perfect for one another (only they can’t realize that just quite yet). I loved each character separately and was able to see who they truly were from their own backstories. Both are in the beyond amazing location of NYC and that backdrop adds to the fantastic narrative. Both are trying to find their place in life and in this big city, both are trying to find themselves. Through their relationship, we can see each sorting things out, and finding happiness with one another, as well as within themselves.

There was chemistry, laughter, romance, wit, and a gorgeous backdrop of the infamous city that never sleeps….a reader cannot go wrong with any of these pluses…and I cannot recommend this one enough.

A real gem. 5/5 stars
