This was a such a heart-wrenching book about two teens trying to make their way through highschool. However, they're way isn't so easy.

I don't know how to describe this book, except that it brings forward the realities of the kinds of decisions people make in certain circumstances - decisions they have to come to terms with.

I’ll admit that I struggled to get into this book, but once I did I thoroughly enjoyed it. Tahir deserves every award that she received for this beautifully heart-wrenching book about family, belonging, and community. The friendship between Noor and Sal is so brutally honest and complex. Noor is contemplating whether or not challenge all of the expectations placed on her by her immigrant family with the hopes of making something better and different for her life. The dual narratives from past and present fill the story with more emotion and tension. The multilingual text filled with historical memories leave a mark on the reader as the family’s history unfolds in contemporary America. Highly recommended.

It seems I forgot to share this here, but we used this book in our School of Education course and two of our English department courses. I am also presenting about it in the ELATE session for NCTE 2023. This is one of the best books I have ever read (and I read a lot of books). The layering of stories and complexity makes it incredibly memorable and compelling.

This fabulous book should be in every high school classroom and library. It’s a beautiful, moving story of two teenagers who are struggling to belong, to fit in, and to escape their small town at the same time. It’s a walk through life, love, family, grief, and the journey immigrants face in America. The characters are real and relatable. It truly is a novel that will stick with you king after you read it. .

All My Rage

Thank you Penguin Teen for sending me a Netgalley e-book arc of this amazing/powerful book by Sabaa Tahir.

This was my first book by this author (#EmberInTheAshes is on my #TBR list).

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book, but sometimes that is the best way to approach a book, especially this particular one.

In this book, we follow

three different characters…

Sal is trying to hold it all together

Noor is fighting to escape

Sal’s mother Misbah is waiting for her new life to begin

two timelines…

Misbah in the past, living in Pakistan

Sal and Noor in the present day trying to make do

one powerful connection…

Their strong ties to their Pakistani heritage

This book was one of my most anticipated reads of 2022, and it did not disappoint! I was drawn to all of the main characters especially Noor…I would totally be friends with her no matter what certain bullies in this book would say!

Wow. Just wow. I really didn’t think anything could even hold a candle to An Ember in the Ashes but Sabaa Tahir proved me so wrong. She can write all the genres and they’re amazing. Much like AEITA, All My Rage shredded my heart into tiny little pieces and I loved every second of it. Please be advised, it does contain some very serious themes but it is such a powerful read.

Try as I might, I can never connect to this Authors books. That's not to say they aren't beautiful and lyrical because they truly are, I just think I'm the wrong reader, and its not the correct genre for me.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for the ARC. 4.5 stars. This was a powerful story told through beautiful writing. It is a story of immigration, friends, young love and what happens when we are put in difficult situations and the choices we make. Highly recommended.

Marvelous, ferocious, heart-breaking and hopeful. Obviously, we ordered copies for the library and my book group just recently read it - we had to postpone the meeting by a week because one member hadn't quite finished it and didn't want any spoilers, which is not our usual modus operandi!

ALL MY RAGE MADE ME RAGE! I was so sad for so long. It was definitely the intensity that I thought from Tahir but I wasn't sure how that would translate to fiction but I should not have doubted! Tahir wrote a gut wrenching, true life inspired coming of age story that will stay with me for a long time.

I don't know why I waited so long to read this gorgeous book! A beautifully written story of immigrant families, intergenerational trauma, and love and loss. It was heavy, but I raced through it. I was holding my breath as to what would happen to both Noor and Sal. I also loved the backstory of Misbah. All My Rage won the National Book Award and was extremely well deserved.

At first glance, this book seems like the kind my eyes immediately skip over in a bookstore - but I'm so glad I gave it a chance. In the present, we see Noor and Salahuddin, and in the past we see Misbah. Misbah of the past is struggling to manage the hotel, her alcoholic husband, and her looming illness. Noor moves to the US after being the sole survivor of an earthquake in Pakistan, followed by her living with her uncle, whose desire to assimilate makes her feel othered from her faith. Noor and Sal are brought together through all of these tragedies that define their past but they want to be able to break from the mold and make their own future.

ALL MY RAGE by Sabaa Tahir is a profound and emotionally resonant story exploring the lives of three characters and their personal journeys which connect to each other. The themes of forgiveness and heartache found within a Pakistani community are powerful, as a love story also blossoms over the course of the novel.

The story is exquisite and deserve all of the acclaim and attention it has received over the past year. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the power of this book, and about Sabaa Tahir as an author for young adult readers. In a nutshell, this title is breathtaking.

An essential purchase for all school and public library collections which serve young adult readers.

This story went pretty much exactly the way I expected it to, but I still enjoyed the journey. And by enjoyed, I mean my heart was broken in a million little pieces over and over. Beautiful story, beautiful characters.

I hate that it took me so long to finally read Sabaa Tahir's contemporary debut but was it stunning. The way she wove intimate character struggles, memory repression, and immigrant struggles all with character development and plot?? It was simply masterful. I would highly recommend the audiobook on this one as well since the narrators Deepti Gupta, Kamran R. Khan, and Kausar Mohammed did a fantastic job. I think this one is a title that is best consumed without a ton of background on the story - just dive in with the faith that Sabaa Tahir would never lead you astray. If you enjoy books by Angie Thomas or even Celeste Ng (especially Little Fires Everywhere) then this might be your new favorite read.
