Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read in exchange for an honest review.

Oh my word this book is incredible! The imagery and vocabulary is next to none: "little shoots emerge like magic" and "zingy orange pumpkins jostle". It is such beautiful language that I can't wait to explore to with my students. Through the characters and the garden, we see the circle of life and it is so so beautiful.

Lots of themes to explore in this book - community, found family, time passing, sustainable living, eating as a loving ritual to name a few the illustrations are understated and delicate. A really heartwarming tale set in the passing of time.

It's a wonderful gift when words and illustrations of a picture book come together seamlessly to tell a deeper story. I thought this would be a simple story about a garden, but the metaphor of loving and loss shine through. Definitely a keeper for the bookshelf!

The Garden We Share is a beautifully illustrated book about a girl and her elderly neighbour/friend who share a love of gardening. They plant seeds in a community garden early in the season and nurture it together. As the plants grow, they create a lovely space where the community can spend time and share the bounty from the garden. The young girl learns from her friend and they love their time together. But when autumn comes, more than just the garden changes, their are changes in the lives of people as well, and the little girl continues on, grateful for the memories of gardening with her friend.

This is a story about gardening, nature, seasons, friendship, and sharing as well as loss, acceptance, and healing. I love intergenerational picture books to show children the value of older relatives, friends and neighbours. Zoë Tucker uses beautifully descriptive language helping to picture the flourishing garden full of flowers and vegetables. Then adding illustrations, done in a warm colour palette, to perfectly complement to the text. This is a wonderful book for a family library to share gardening, time spent with older relatives as well as dealing with grief. I also recommend this book to schools and teachers as there is so much to discuss and use as a jumping off point. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating and opinions shared are my own.

This beautifully written and illustrated book captures the art of gardening, but also the journey through seasons, love, loss, patience and friendship. It was a tough one to read after recently losing my grandmother, but I think it will be a great addition to our collection when it becomes available. Thank you NetGalley, NorthSouth Books Inc. and Zoe Tucker for a first look at this gem.

What a gorgeous little book this is. It is brightly colorful, tells a lovely little story, and unexpectedly made me weep. Grief is a funny thing isn't it? I think the note at the end of the book says it all: "A tender story about gardening, loss, and treasured memories - reminding us that hope springs anew." That is it in a nutshell. This will offer many opportunities to talk about memories and loss and shared activities.
This was quite simply, the book I didn't know I needed right now. ♥

Thank you to NetGalley, Zoe Tucker, Julianna Swaney [Illustrator], and NorthSouth Books Inc. for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

So much to love about this book, it is beautiful.
A story about family, that special bond between a grandparent and a child, and precious time spent in the garden, and in the kitchen, cooking up the spoils of the garden. I love the community garden and those that spend time there. Yes there's gardening, but there's also time just spent there enjoying the garden, sharing food and stories. Without being explicit, this story covers a lot... patience, the change of seasons, community, sustainability and loss. The little girl in this book has a concrete 'thing' to help her remember her grandmother, the garden, as well as her grandmother's friends, reminding us that those that are still here help keep the memories of those gone alive.
The last illustration is so very clever, showing us that those we love are with us always.

Kick-start your Spring by reading The Garden We Share. The Garden We Share is a story about friendship, growth, loss, and change. In the book, a girl holds tiny seeds, which she calls small dots that hold big memories. The girl plants the seeds with her elderly friends in Spring and watches them grow and transform the space into colorful flowers and nutritious vegetables. After enjoying the Summer, under the shade of the colorful blossoms, Winter arrives. The cycle repeats next year but this time the girl has experienced both loss and hope and is hopeful for the future. As usual, Juliana Swaney's illustrations are marvelous, with eye-popping and mellow colors on every page.

I did enjoy this book for all its worth. I do think it will bring up lots of questions about loss and community but i wish they showed evidence of the ill women over time rather than waiting till the book is ending so it can be less of a shock and more of understanding for children.

I enjoyed this sweet book about loss. It was touching seeing the relationship between the young girl and her grandmother. I loved how it showed we can carry our memories of loved ones with us after they are gone. I would definitely read this to my daughter. I loved the illustrations as well.

What a lovely story about friendship across generations. This is a beautifully written book involving the power of a garden not only to nourish our bodies, but also our souls; and the small things that can help us remember those that we have loved who are no longer with us.

An important story about loss and living for them. The illustration is beautiful and captivating. I know my kids would love it for that alone! The story has gorgeous movement that helps with the flow, the message is fantastic, and the story is serious. Still, it isn't overwhelming; that would allow the kids to relate to it. 10/10 would recommend to parents and early educators!

This is a beautiful book that is informative and fun to read about gardening but also about experiencing a loss. I appreciate how it highlights the way to remember someone who is gone, and I think this would be great as an addition for a classroom.

Oof, this one got me, such a beautiful story about a young girl and the garden she shared with her elderly neighbor. I love the message of hope that Spring brings after the loss of her neighbor.

Highly recommend this book for home, school, and public libraries.
