As someone was a chronic pain condition I am always interested to read new books & literature about living with & treating chronic pain. What makes this book special is that the author experiences chronic pain themselves, and this makes a difference in not only how it has been written, but also how it is read. We are not simply being provided with information by a medical expert, but by someone who knows what it is like to be fully consumed by pain and how it comes to permeate every aspect of daily life.
Written in a way that makes the information easy to understand and digest, but not dumbing down or diluting the information provided to the reader. This makes it an accessible and informative read for both those living with chronic pain who want to gain a fuller understanding of the condition they are living with, and professional, medical and academic readers who would benefit from a knowledgeable guide to aid in the circumnavigation of the lived experience of chronic pain and the research & literature about it.
As an academic involved in research into the lived experience of a specific chronic pain condition, and also someone who has lived with chronic pain for the best part of a decade, I found this book extremely helpful, informative and interesting. I read this as an E-book but will be looking to buy a hard copy of it for future use and reference going forward.
