This was a brilliant story. I just loved every minute of it. This book is aimed at ages 9 to 12. However, I am sure that teenagers and adults will love this story. It is definitely very exciting and thrilling. It has a great medium to fast pace and is full of action. I really enjoyed the snowmobile race and the events that unfold as a result. The characters were interesting, realistic and developed well. I that it was good that at the start of the race his rivals were not friends However they changed throughout this story as they had to work together to get to the end. I definitely recommend reading this book. The way it was wrote I feel this book would suit ages 12 plus.

Many thanks to the author and publishers for creating this exciting adventure which you might struggle to put down.

This is a great story of adventure and survival. Even the most reluctant reader will be on the edge of their seat as Kelton and his friends try to survive the mountain in the middle of a blizzard. This book was full of adventure and strengthened by the bonds of friendship and understanding that developed between the characters.

Students who enjoy adventure and survival series will be interested in the elements of natural disaster, survival and safety. The characters are overly knowledgeable for this being their first time on their own or in a snowboarding race, and disasters are quickly averted or solved. However, for the target audience this is aimed at, that won't matter and would be preferred over drawn out descriptions of pain, or more realistic consequences.

Overall, this will be an intriguing read for readers who already follow survivalist stories but won't necessarily draw those who weren't already into the genre. It might be a good audiobook for reluctant readers.

I know quite a few of my survivalist-loving patrons would enjoy this, and I will recommend it to these readers.

I gave my 11-year-old daughter this book to read and review, and here's her official review:

DNF @ 20%

I was first drawn to this book by the cover, it looked very exciting!! But there's quite a bit of standing around and talking... I liked that he fed the neighbour's dog across the street (Why can't I remember its name?) and didn't let it starve.

Here are some things that I think could have been improved: All of the characters were introduced at once, and I can't remember all of their names or who they are. Also, when the person was finishing up his snowmobile (I can't remember his name), how did he push a snowmobile that an adult needed one or two of his friends to help him with? The book never mentioned anything about the main guy going to the gym and working out 24/7 OR about him having super-human strength.....

Overall, it just didn't keep my attention, and wasn't as exciting as I expected it to be.

What an action-packed book this was! Kelton decides to secretly enter a snowmobile race so he can win the money prize to help his mom with bills. His secret is to go through a rarely used mountain pass over a gold mine. When Swann sees his secret map, she tells Hunter. The day of the race we find all three taking the secret pass, and we find them encountering avalanches, a broken leg, and dealing with very honest truths about how each of them is seen and treated at school. Can they survive the night? Will they be rescued?
