I really liked Stephanie and Thorne. Two imperfect people find perfection together. Stephanie isn't sure she will stay sane, and she lives in isolation. Besides all the voices she hears might drive her mad. Thorne has wings and feathers. He was the result of an experiment and so he stays isolated. Can you imagine if people saw him flying? He would be another experiment. Can the two of them make a life together?

Immortal Rising
Argeneau Series - Book 34
By Lynsay Sands

Avon Books - April 2022

Vampire Romance

Stephanie McGill lived a quiet life - or at least a life surrounded by as much quiet as she could. She and her sister had once lived in a happy, normal, family. Then they had been abducted and turned into vampires. Or rather immortals. But not normal immortals. She was a no-fanger at risk of turning rogue. And worse, she could hear everyone's thoughts. For miles. It had been a nightmare when she lived with her new family in a town. Now it was lonely in the remote home where she lived, but at least she only heard the thoughts of the few nearby locals.

Until all had gotten quiet. It had happened before when everyone had headed to a party. She planned to enjoy the silence and solitude while it lasted.

But it was short lived. Several hours later, a visitor arrived, and it wasn't another immortal. It was Thorne. Stephanie had heard of the island where a mad scientist, or simply evil scientist, had manipulated DNA to create genetic variations of humans with animal characteristics. Thorne was one of the results of his tests and wanted a surgery to allow him to interact with society. Stephanie thought he was amazing as is, but could understand.

Thorne was intrigued with Stephanie from the moment he saw her, but knew he couldn't offer her the life, future, and family she deserved. He was never going to be able to show himself to the world, and he definitely would never risk passing his genetic soup to a child. But when a potential threat is revealed, Thorne realizes there is nothing he won't do for this woman.

Immortal Rising is a sweet romance bringing together two loners of the immortal world. It was interesting to see Stephanie and Throne work through their feelings, and the possibility that they could be life mates. There were surprises and twists which made Immortal Rising an excellent addition to the Argeneau series.

Romance Junkies

The 34th entry in author Lynsay Sands' The Argeneau series, IMMORTAL RISING can stand on its own and is an exciting addition to the series as a whole. I read the first few books a long time ago but had no problem understanding this one, as it focuses on two separate characters in their own love story.

Stephanie McGill was turned into a vampire as a teenager, and her abilities make it vital she stay far from others, for her own sanity. When she meets her new neighbor, Thorne, she realizes something is very different about him. He's not an immortal, like her, but he's not human either. And he, like Stephanie, is looking for a place to hide out, away from others. But Thorne comes with baggage, and that baggage poses a danger to him and to Stephanie. They'll have to work together--with some help from old friends--if they want to make it out alive.

The romance is sexy, the characters well-fleshed out, and the danger and pacing enough to keep the reader interested without being overwhelming. IMMORTAL RISING is a solid, entertaining paranormal romance featuring an intriguing vampire clan. My only complaint would be a little too much detail in the mundane activities of the characters (i.e. buying groceries and what they were eating for dinner, where they went to buy ice cream...) which seemed a little too drawn out. But all in all, an enjoyable read.

You'd think that at #34 in the series, maybe you'd be tired of the series, or you'd find it formulaic, perhaps. However, I can say, unequivocally, that is not the case with the Argeneau series by Lynsay Sands. This latest installment is an incredible addition to the series, finally reading Stephanie and Thorne's story.

After being turned into a vampire, Stephanie's unique skill was also alarming and disarming. She could read minds but not like a traditional vampire... she could read everyone's thoughts for miles out. Older vampires, who are usually immune to younger vampires' abilities, as well as the gas station attendant own the road. No one was safe form Stephanie and she is constantly bombarded at all times. Though a useful skill, especially in her role as a rogue hunter, it is also painful and difficult to manage. So she spends her life in semi-isolation, distant from even friends and family (I mean, imagine you can hear everything they were all thinking? No thank you!)

Thorne is just incredible. Like, I love him. New book boyfriend? Yes. He's a unique type of shifter, as a result of genetic experimentation by his father. He's lived his life in general isolation, as well, due to his massive wings - similar yet different from Stephanie.

Stephanie and Thorne are thrown together and what follows is a heated, passionate and emotionally love story - rife with mystery and action too! I love them together - how open and honest they are and the way they connect. I also loved the real relationships we see between them an other characters from previous books. And I adore Thorne's mom! Is she getting her own story?!?!? Say yes, Ms. Sands!!

PS I love seeing Lucian again. He's the best, stodgiest most awesome of the elder vampires. Just
sayin' :)

This was a great dive back into a series I've loved for years. Keep them coming!!

When I found out this was Steph and Thorn's book I just had to get my hands on it as soon as possible.
Ms. Sands did it again!
There was one thing that was not found out in the story that I hope will be cleared up in the next book. Although it makes me think there is an enforcer that might be a traitor.
I absolutely love Thorn's mom. I'm hoping she gets her own book as well as Thorn's tia. Those two definitely deserve some happiness.

I absolutely loved Immortal Rising by Lynsay Sands. If ever a couple deserved a happily ever after, it's Thorne and Stephanie. These are two characters that my heart has ached for, due to the suffering they endured through no fault of their own. Their respective circumstances left me as a reader feeling somewhat helpless. I enjoyed seeing so many characters from previous books make an appearance. Especially Lucian with his trademark sardonic seriousness. A satisfying love story for a truly special couple. Well done Lynsay Sands!

There is a little bit of everything in Immortal Rising.

We get to meet villain Dressler’s biological son Thorne in Lynsay Sands latest Argeneau addition. He is an interesting mix of species, but the most obvious is the eagle. Raised amidst the other experiments, Thorne is a really nice guy due to his mother and nanny Maria. He is also a touch innocent or maybe the word I am looking for is pure. Even though horrible things have happened to him, and sacrifices have been made, his intent in life is good. He just wants to repay the love and loyalty that his mother and Maria have given him all of these years and sets out to do that - which is where we meet him.

We meet Stephanie first and I gotta say that I love her impressions of Thorne and that she says them aloud. This made for very humorous reading. Stephanie is complex as she was turned in a violent manner and ripped from her family. There is a lot of leftover residues from these actions. Then there is Stephanie’s ability which has everyone scared for a myriad of reasons.

“Now that is the one complaint I would have with your books, dear. They’re very well written, and fast paced. The excitement pretty much jumps off the page at you, but you do have a tendency to cuss like a sailor,” Lady Elizabeth pointed out. Loc. 4426

Sands brings the heat with Thorne and Stephanie. I do kind of feel that it is not as much as usual, but I could be wrong.

I love the Argeneau series because you are guaranteed battle scenes, humor, found family, heat, and of course love. We get to visit with past characters and see how their lives have moved forward. Lynsay Sands’ Argeneaus are an immediate must read and Immortal Rising is no different.

I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.

Since being attacked and turned as a teenager, Stephanie McGill has struggled to cope with her unique abilities that set her apart even from other immortals. After thirteen years, and with the help of her adopted family, the Argeneaus, she’s carved out a good life for herself, even if it is a lonely one. But that’s all about to change with the arrival of a new neighbor.

Thorne is unlike anyone Stephanie has ever met, and not just because he’s the result of a genetic experiment rendering him not quite mortal or immortal. He’s just looking for somewhere to hide where no one will see his wings while Stephanie’s sister tries to determine if a surgery to remove them would be a viable option. Stephanie’s little compound is the perfect hideout and in fact, he quickly realizes Stephanie is the perfect woman for him. She’s the first person to see him as a real person and not just a novelty and he’s falling for her fast.

Stephanie is falling just as hard for Thorne, but before they can look to their future they have to deal with the past in the form of the conscienceless scientist who engineered Thorne and now wants to capture both him and Stephanie for further tests.

First off, I adored Thorne as a hero, and he completely carried this book for me. Between the wings and his isolated history, he was by far one of the most unique heroes I’ve ever read, and I found his insecurity and uncertainty of himself to be very endearing. I really enjoyed his interactions with Stephanie and his protectiveness of her and I especially liked that she wound up reciprocating this protectiveness towards him as well. Now on to what I didn’t like so much. First off, this story was incredibly slow to start and got very bogged down in the beginning with little minutiae like all the details of exactly how Stephanie went about making food for her pets. That’s all fine and good but I was ready to move along and get on with the story. Next, Stephanie herself was pretty annoying as a heroine sometimes just because her thoughts got a bit repetitive with her fears of going “no-fanger” and there were many times in the story that Lucien was the only one who could get her calmed back down to something sensible.

I really loved this couple together and there were a couple of scenes in which that lovely mature and open communication I so adore was being set up and Stephanie just completely shut it down and ruined it by seducing Thorne and distracting him with sex. Don’t get me wrong, they were great together, but I also wanted the conversation between them too. Fortunately, Thorne was having none of it and rectified that situation pretty quickly. My only other issue was that for much of the last half of the book Thorne and Stephanie don’t really have much time together on the page and I wanted more of that, perhaps at least an epilogue with them together just to round everything out with more balance. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this couple, I liked that this story had some action and suspense without it being too much or so drawn out that it made me stressed, and I think this was a solid addition to an enduring series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed Immortal Rising. I loved the tight setting, the new view of past characters, and I LOVED seeing Lucian again. He will always and forever be one of my favorite Argeneau immortals. I also enjoyed the villain and his evil doings. This is one of my favorite series I've been reading since I was a freshman in high school and this brought the energy back.

Another amazing Argeneau book to add to a long-standing series! I love Lynsay Sand's novels, and even though we are now on a surprising 34th installment of this amazing family and extended family, she somehow manages to keep it fresh and interesting - this novel most of all! I felt like this could be read as a standalone, but if you are looking for a little more history into this character that has grown up and into the Argeneau's you might want to read back to the main character's sister and her novel "The Immortal Hunter", but again, it's not necessary to learn about these characters and where they've come from.

Stephanie McGill didn't grow up as an immortal, she was thrust into the world of "vampires" when she and her sister were stolen years ago. Thankfully they ended up with the Argeneau's, a powerful immortal family focus on keeping everyone safe by ridding the world of vampires, those who have gone insane and attack/drink/kill humans. While Stephanie is now a lot like her foster family and even her biological sister, she is also different able to do things not even Lucian, the powerful head of the Argeneau's can do. Because of this, she constantly has to stay on her toes, aware of how she presents herself and also how she utilizes her abilities. When not helping hunt down vampires, she lives secluded in her own safe space lamenting the fact that she's a 27-year-old virgin.

So, who better to be her life mate other than a mortal-immortal with his own set of unique abilities? Thorne hails from an island of experiments and nightmares, happy to be free, he's awaiting a consultation with Stephanie's Doctor sister Dani to potentially get his wings removed - you read that right! He's had a very sheltered life, but has a heart of gold and frankly, wings of valor!

When these two meet, sparks ignite, they are a great fit for many reasons but most importantly, they've both had hard upbringings and are only now trying to break out of their shells. A man from both their pasts is going to make it as hard as possible for them, but if anyone can overcome one crazy person bent on destruction, it's these two.

I really loved these two characters, Stephanie has had a few cameos as she joined the series at 16, so it was nice to see her get a love story of her own. And Thorne was so interesting, his background is something I would have loved to read more of. While I very much enjoyed the book, I felt like there was quite a bit of it where Sands just handed over what she wanted us to know instead of writing it through her character's point of view. I skipped a few pages at a time as she had characters explain in detail where groceries were coming from or why they needed to do some menial task or something else along those lines, it took me a little out of the story. I loved seeing the scenes between Stephanie and Thorne's mom however, I'm hoping they can find lifemates of their own. Such a fun character who loves her son very much.

I'd definitely read this again, along with the whole series. Lynsay Sands definitely knows what she's doing!

My opinions are freely given and my own.

Stephanie has learned to accept her life of voices, loneliness and fear. And the she meets Thorne and for a time the voices stop. Thorne knows he will never live a normal life but for his mother he is willing to try but can he?
Immortal Rising is the latest addition to Lynsay Sands Argeneau series. I love getting to know Thorne better even as Stephanie finally gets her happily ever after. We have seen her grow both in age and experience. She has fought to have some normalcy inspite of the voices. I loved that both Thorne and Stephanie felt different but when they were together their differences didn't matter. I loved that Stephanie gave Thorne acceptance and he gave her peace. The only question is will they survive long enough to enjoy it? I adored finding out in this return to the Argeneau world Ms. Sands has created.

So this book was so so good. I loved reading about Stephanie and Thorne. Such dynamic characters. The author did a great job delivering this story!

Stephanie and Thorne both have crazy abilities. Thornes was not natural. He was pretty much an experiment his father created. His father messed with all different types of DNA to create Thorne. A super hybrid. Stephanie’s abilities came when she was turned at a young age. No one else has them and they were starting to making her crazy. Along comes Thorne and with him in her life, he is the only person able to calm her abilities and let her live a somewhat normal lifestyle.

They were a perfect match for each other. You don’t need to read the other books to understand this one but I would definitely recommend it!

I received an ARC copy from HarperCollins through NetGalley for an honest review of this book.

Characters: Genre: Paranormal Romance
Stephanie. Rating: 💜💙❤️💛
Thorne. Heat Rating: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Series: Argeneau series #34
Length: 480 Pages

Stephanie's life is basically he'll. She constantly hears anyone and everyone's thoughts. If they are within a five yo six mile radious from her they are in her head. That's sometimes hundreds of voices in her head at once. Even beyond that she's still not like other immortals. Stephanie and her sister were turned by a rogue "no fanger" and they can't drink blood from bags like everyone else. They have to actually drink it from a cup. Yuck. She keeps just about everything to herself because everyone constantly fears she will turn into a "no fanger" herself. They may not say it but she can hear it.

Thorne started off as nothing but an experiment. His sperm donor, since you can't quite call him a father, was trying to create the perfect human. Splovinh s bunch of different brings DNA together. Human, bat, bird, dolphin. He goes to Canada in hopes that Stephanie's sister Dani can find a way to cut his wings off so he can look normal. It's not really what he wants but it's what he thinks is best for his mother and his aunt. Meeting Stephanie changed things for him though. They both get a new look on life.

But some evils just won't leave.

My opinion: I love this author and series so much. It's definitely a different take on vampires. Lyndsay always brings something new to the table. Youvalways get to see the characters you love aling with some new. Always a new plot and new main characters. It's definitely a series that could probably go on forever

Stephanie and Thorne are hot from the start. It's instant attraction. They both make stupid mistakes. They have a lot to learn about themselves and each other. Which makes them very relatable. All while trying to stay out of Dresslers clutches.

Part of a series but can be read as a stand alone.

I absolutely adore all things Lynsay Sands. Immortal Rising is the latest in the ongoing series, Argeneau/Rogue Hunter Series. No other author does vampires quite like Sands. When I originally picked up one of her books I was deep into the vampire/paranormal romance phase, but little did I know I was in for a surprise. Instead of the soulless beings beyond the veil, these stories were full of science-induced blood drinking creatures who have evolved to survive the fall of Atlantis due to nanobots that have been engineered to keep them in their prime condition.
In this latest installment, we find a fan-favorite character, Stephanie McGill, as an adult and trying to survive the voices she is bombarded with on a daily due to her nano's mutations. Her friends and family fear for her sanity as her kind often go mad or rogue turning into crazed blood drinking monsters, but all this changes with the arrival of her lifemate, Thorne. He is a hot human-animal hybrid that makes Steph melt at first meeting and in his blood is further secrets that could lead to Stephanie's salvation.
While I love this series and think it's possible to read this story as a standalone, I don't suggest it. References were constantly made to previous books and the world building in Sands' novels is done over the course of a series so a lot would be lost by starting with this one. I think this latest is a solid read and and it's a good 4 out of 5 stars.

Stephanie and her sister had been turned into Edenate. She could read minds, move extremely fast and she was strong. Dani, her sister, was a doctor and had been turned into an Edenate also. They had some of the same powers. They also worked with the Immortals to stop evil people from turning innocents into people like them.

Thorne was raised on an island with his mother and Maria her friend. His father had experimented on his mom when they first married. When he was born, he had wings and all diverse kinds of DNA in him. He was handsome and strong; those wings were amazing.

In this world where humans are not alone, it is amazing the diversity that has come up. The characters with their varied reasons for why they do things. The difference in the people's skills, the reasons they fight the Rogues and the evil ones. I found this story interesting and engaging. There is action, exciting, moving, and reads easily. I do recommend it.

I received this ARC from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it.

I absolutely adored this book. I have been reading this series from the beginning and I am glad Stephanie has finally got her own story. Thorn is different from everyone because he is not mortal or immgnortal. I enjoyed reading about this couple falling in love and trying to avoid danger. Lynsay Sands did not disappoint with this additon to the Argeneau series. It was good from beginning to end. I didn't want to put it down.

I loved this! The fact that Thorne is a hybrid, like and Eagle and getting to learn all the different DNA he contains, is the cherry on the top. He and Stephanie are perfect together. The little bit of danger from Dressler and the uncertainty of Stephanie’s furniture, adds fuel to the fire. 5 stars!!

IMMORTAL RISING is the thirty-fourth book in the Argeneau series. While this may stand on its own, I highly recommend reading as many of the previous books in the series as possible. There is a lot of reference to past events.

I love Stephanie. Well, everyone loves Stephanie; because she was turned at such a young age, everyone has adopted her as a baby sister, daughter, niece… But I love her because she would be me as a vampire. It all has turned out wrong and made her a freak among the hidden society. She is Edentate; she has no fangs. Plus, she has a unique ability to hear everyone, all of the time. This ability makes everyone think she will go rogue from the constant bombardment of sound in her head. Her new immortal friends worry about her constantly, so she hides (internalizes) anything she thinks may cause them more worry. I. Get. That!

Thorne is genetically the son of Dressler, but also one of Dressler’s mutants. He has the DNA of several animals within, but the one that is physically prominent is Bald Eagle. He has large, beautiful, brown wings and a white feather cap instead of hair.

I love that Stephanie sees Thorne as a man first and foremost. Yes, the wings are obvious and intriguing, but she connects with him as a human being before discussing what makes him different from every other person on earth.

It may have only been a few days from meeting to accepting that they are life-mates, but Stephanie and Thorne are so unique as individuals that they are able create a slow-burn romance that develops naturally in those few days instead of the usual life-mate insta-lust and love.

Absolutely wonderful to read and become Stephanie for a day. I was also Thorne for part of the day, but I identified with Stacie. Great romance, suspense, and emotion.

Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC via NetGalley, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

I'm not sure how this author is still able to keep this series fresh, but I for one am not tired of it 30 something books in. Stephanie and Thorne are wonderful characters and I was able to get behind them as a couple right away. I really enjoyed the story and never felt like it was stale in any way. That's the mark of a fantastic writer! Looking forward to this series never ending,

Ahhhhh this was just such a great read. I just didn't want this book to end and I was sad to turn the last page. I'm so excited to see what's next from this author.
