The author's previous book In An Instant was one of my favorite books and it tore at my emotions. I saw that she had written a book that continued the story of some of these characters and couldn't believe it. So when I received a ARC I was really excited! I cancelled my plans for a night of reading.. and...... I was just so disappointed!

I found the story interesting, and an easy read. However, I found myself confused as to who was who. They were adding characters like we knew who they were. One of the characters calls Fitz - well who is Fitz?? No explanation is given. I have read the authors previous books, but my memory is awful. And what about the people that are picking up this book for the first time?

Then there were little things that annoyed me. One of the girls is offered food and remembers she hadn't eaten since some brussel sprouts the day before. Literally 2-3 pages later the other girl is offered food and she remembers she hadn't eaten since some ice cream the day before. I actually had to go back and make sure that we had switched characters.

If this were any new author, I would feel better about this book. But this author usually draws me into her stories and gives me all the feels, and this just didn't.

From an objective point of view, not my fangirl side, this book was good, It was a fast, easy read. It was interesting, and worth a read. From my fangirl side, I was really let down. I was able to put this book down and pick it up again, which is not a good sign.

Thank you to the author, the publisher and #netgalley for the ARC which did not impact my review.

When I started this book I had no idea that it was sort of a follow up to Ms. Redfearn's previous book, In An Instant. A few of the main characters were in the last book. This one references the major incident of the previous book quite often. Since I read the previous book, I’m not sure if I can tell or not if this one can be a stand alone. I think it would confuse me if I had not read the other book. There are many references to characters from the previous book.

The main premise of Moment in Time is the socially relevant incident of date rape resulting from a cocktail that contained a drug. But the story gets quite convoluted after the incident. There is a new twist at every turn. But, I’m not sure that it worked for me. There are some highly unlikely and unbelievable coincidences as the story progresses. And there is a turnabout from the original crime to one that could turn out to be much more sinister. But, I never actually figured it out. I'm not even sure if I was supposed to figure it out.

Characters are varied. The 3 main females appear to be strong women but two of them make some terrible decisions. The villain is pure evil. Though we don't see a lot of him, he is the most believable.

Not surprisingly for me, my favourite character was Ruby, a dog who was going through PTSD and made great progress throughout the book.

I appreciated the author's explanation at the end of the book. She told the reader in great detail how she came to tell the story. And, absolutely, it is a story that needs to be told, over and over. It’s a travesty that the hands of the law are tied in many date rape situations when the victim has been drugged.

I wish I could have liked this book more, I was looking forward to reading it. But, I see that according to other reviewers, many have liked it. I've always said that not every book is for everybody. This book was not for me.

Mo, Chloe, and Hazel are a trio of best friends in their mid-twenties. They couldn't be more different--Mo, a savvy journalist, has built her own news business, Chloe is a semi-homeless veterinarian, living out of her van, and Hazel is an awkward, never-been kissed, genius--and yet they are each other's ride-or-dies. So when Hazel is date-raped, Chloe and Mo drop everything to bring the man responsible to justice.

I love books about friendships. To me, books are all about the relationships between the characters--give me family dramas or stories of decades long friendships. I want those tangled storylines! This book delivered that, even as each character was off on their own crusade. You could see that even while they each had their own struggles and worries, they still cared and thought about what they could do for each other.

I really liked how the author told a story that was so true to life. Many date rapes go unreported, especially (like in Hazel's case) when GHB and alcohol are involved. This happens for a million reasons--largely because the legal system isn't set up to handle these situations. So, what do you do when your best friend is targeted? Especially when you are the one who set that friend up with her "date?"

My only struggle with the story was that I was missing some context for the characters. Most of the characters are from the author's previous books, and so it seemed like I was expected to know them going in (which I sadly didn't!). The problem with using characters from another book when it's not a series is that either they are underexplained (like in this book) because the author doesn't want to bore people who've read her other works, or they're reintroduced and long-time readers of that author are annoyed with the over explanation. In the end, I wish I had read her other books first so that I could properly appreciate and review this one.

Thank-you to NetGalley for my eARC copy of this book!

Suzanne Redfearn’s Moment in Time is one of the bravest books I’ve read that talks about violence against women. The topic about violence against women and children, for some, might be a bit of a cliché already in books but it should not be ignored. The commonality of this topic is perhaps an indication that this is a social issue that often overlooked and is taken for granted by the system and by the people just because the victims do not speak about it in public.

This book deals with the reality faced by rape victims and other women who experienced other types of abuse and attack. It also portrays the trauma and emotions experienced by the people close to a rape victim.

Maureen, Mo to her two close friends Chloe and Hazel, will do just about anything to protect Hazel and help her get through the traumatic experience while Chloe deals with the matter differently in her own terms. Will they be able to rise above this crisis or will this break their friendship into pieces? It is worth binge reading and find out how these three women dealt with the matter and with their relationships in the background.

For me, it is one of the books young adults to read as a precautionary tale narrated creatively without compromising the effective portrayal of the social issue as it happens in real life.

Eight years later, characters from Redfearn's amazing and thought provoking book In An Instant once again experience a life changing event. I liked catching up with familiar characters who once again experienced difficult choices in difficult situations. This book exposes unfortunately very real challenges associated with holding people accountable for "date rape. " Although not as compelling as In An Instant it was a good read.

Moment In Time by Suzanne Redfearn tackles some of the most emotionally gripping and relevant topics it's possible to write about and does so beautifully. I don't want to give away anything because this book was such a beautiful ride and it's best to just dive in and savor every page. Highly recommend!

I did not enjoy this book. The characters constantly made the worst possible decision and had a need to sacrifice themselves for others that made no sense. I found them annoying from the get go when one of the characters keeps a service dog vest with her so that she can bring non-service dogs anywhere.

The book kept making reference to an accident that didn’t have much bearing to the story. I later realized that these characters were teenagers in a previous books where the accident took place.

It also implies that it is better to let a rapist go free than to maybe incriminate someone on something minor.

A great follow-up to Suzanne Redfearn’s previous novel In an Instant. This book explores many difficult and important themes around sexual assault, specifically the re-traumatization of victims as they are thrust into the “justice” system. The characters are complex and flawed, all too human, and they make some very questionable choices but it all made for a compelling and thrilling read.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with the opportunity to read and review this book.

I hadn't realised this was a sort of follow up to In an Instant.
So I was pleasantly surprised to have some of the characters back.
This book has a lot of valid things to say about rape, how its reported and prosecuted, and how victims are treated.
It has a lot to say about loyalty and the strength of female friendship too. These are the books strengths.
Also Kyle. He's amazing.
However,I felt distracted by some of the side plots, and just wanted to get back to the story. Far too much time spent on one restaurant visit and such like.
Mostly though,it cements Redfearn in my head as an authour I want to read each new release.

This book was a fast read and a good thriller. I recommend it especially if you read In an Instant because it's almost a sequel. It's about Chloe and Mo, and what their life was like after the awful snow accident.

In enjoyed the mentions of Finn and Oz and the accident, but I thought the author got lazy and used it as a way to fill in her characterization. I would have like a lot more about the Chloe/Kyle dynamic. I also would have liked to know a lot more about Eric, and why Chloe was so poor (the poor part just didn't strike me as believable, and it was extraneous information that served absolutely no purpose).

I was skeptical of the implausibility of what happened. I'm not talking about Hazel. That part was all too plausible. I'm talking about a horrific tragedy happening after they both suffered a horrific tragedy, and on top of that, the entire book was one bad choice and tragedy after the other. I kind of felt like they were afflicted with Murphy's Law.

However, the author is obviously not an attorney and did not consult an attorney in the writing of this book. My biggest pet peeve is when authors "CSI" it. Almost every aspect of the legal issues were incorrect, including the fruit of the poisonous tree. I explain the legalities more on my blawg: https://www.blawggers.com/suzanne-redfearns-moment-in-time-book-summary-review/

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

This was a lovely story. I had not realized it was a somewhat a sequel to another one of her books. Suzanne takes on some strong themes in this book, and tackles them well. You will definitely root for the characters and see the bad guys right away. If you have ever wondered what a friendship means to you and what you would do for those friends this is the book for you.

This is a very readable book about the dreadful topic of rape. The author examines the subject from the loyalty and friendship of the three roommates and their boyfriends. Roofies and date rape and the consequences for the victim and the perpetrator are put into perspective as the story unfolds. Not an easy subject but relevant and timely in today’s world. #MomentinTime #SuzanneRedfearn #NetGalley

Moment in Time is a gripping, troubling and incredibly relevant story about sexual assault, victim-blaming, and the role of media in our society.

Suzanne Redfearn addresses the harsh reality women face while confronting the medical, media and justice systems after being victims of such assaults. Following the three main characters Mo, Chloe and Hazel's journey to self-recovery and justice was truly enlightening yet infuriating.

It was hard putting this book down with such an intriguing and fast-paced storyline. The characters were diverse, complex and relatable, though I could not necessarily agree with or understand their actions throughout the novel. Their relationships and the final plot twist could also have been more believable. Nevertheless, Moment in Time was a unique story that I enjoyed from beginning to end.

This book is hard to put down and readable in a day! It tackles the difficult (for me to read), but very important topic of rape, and had a couple of unexpected twists. The characters were interesting and relatable, although I did think that they made some unbelievable choices at times. It was fun to see Mo, Chloe, Kyle and others from In An Instant, and I understand from the author’s note that other characters are in Hadley and Grace and Hush Little Baby, which I look forward to reading as well.

Thank you very much to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for the advanced reader’s copy of this book.
