Carrie Singleton is excited that the work on the addition to the library is finally getting started but a snag arises on the first day - a body has been discovered in the basement of the old building being renovated and upon its discovery a new ghost appears in the library. Problem - the ghost has no memory of who he is, how he died, and when. The mystery ghost is identified by a pain in the ass reporter and it turns out to be Carrie's fiancé's uncle. At the same time as the ghost is taking up residence at the library, Carrie begins her time on the town council and is caught in the middle of a decision regarding some land development. When one of the council members turns up dead after the crucial vote, Carrie wonders if the two murders are somehow related.

I really enjoyed the mystery, the ghostly interactions, and the character development of Dylan, Carrie's fiancé.

Dewey Decimated, the sixth book in the Haunted Library Mysteries, by Allison Brook sees a newly engaged Carrie Singleton grabbing her new role as a member of the local Town Council with both hands and delving into all the ins and outs of public representation while still performing her job as Program and Events Director for the library. Her resolve to avoid investigating any more mysteries is challenged when a body is discovered in the building that has been recently purchased by the library to facilitate a long awaited expansion. When the contractor accidently breaks through a common wall, the ghost of the deceased is able to enter the library where Evelyn steps in to help determine why he is still trapped in the earthly realm. Soon it is discovered that the body is that of Dylan's estranged uncle thereby dragging Allison, Dylan and Evelyn into the investigation of both his death and the subsequent death of the owner of the construction company doing the work on the addition.

Throughout this series, the author has developed believable, sympathetic characters for both the victims and the perpetrators and does done a wonderful job of continuity from book to book. These six books cover a one year time period in the life of Allison and her friends and neighbors. She has gone from being a temporary employee living with family to permanent employee status living on her own to becoming involved in the town political scene and engaged to be married to her neighbor/former landlord/childhood friend of her brother. Along the way, the author has taken great care to include all the typical growing pains as a young woman moves from a solitary life to one that includes many family members, friends and acquaintances that make up everyday life in a small community.

I look forward to more installments in this series as Allison and Dylan and their relationship continue to grow and move toward becoming a family with all the trials and tribulation that entails along with several more mysteries thrown in for good measure.

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books and am leaving this review voluntarily.

For light summertime reading this book has everything, ghosts, books, romance, murder, civic duty, animals and a very likable heroine. The solution to the murder involves the suspicion of almost every citizen of a small town.

I absolutely love cozy mysteries and "Dewey Decimated" was a wonderful addition to the genre. Great read!

OK. I confess. I didn't read the fine print. I really loved the cover of this book. So, I decided to review it. I should have read the description of the book. I missed that it was the sixth book in the Haunted Library series. And, of course, I hadn't read any of the previous five books.

So, when I got to the part about the main character, Carrie Singleton, talking to the "library ghost", I thought, "What the heck?" Most books that are written as part of a series give the reader a bit of an overview of the characters for the reader who jumps into the series. Author, Allison Brook, just dove right in.

But once I got my sea legs, I settled in for a really delightful book. Carrie works at the local library. They are renovating a nearby facility to enlarge the library when they encounter a body that has been there for awhile. When the ghost of the dead man joins Carrie's regular library ghost, she finds out that the victim is the uncle of her fiancee.

Utilizing her detective skills and the cast of odd and humorous "irregulars", Carrie solves the mystery. Make sure you know what you are getting with this series. But then, enjoy it.

Carrie Singleton is back and at it again in the sixth installment of The Haunted Library Mysteries by Allison Brook, Dewey Decimated. I have been lucky enough to read all five of the previous books in this series. When I was given the opportunity to review an Advanced Reader Copy, I jumped at the opportunity. I am grateful that the author/publisher gave me the opportunity to review this book prior to publication. However, this review is not impacted by their generosity.

Again, I've read the entire series and continue to enjoy everything that Carrie and Smokey Joe manage to get themselves involved in. This story starts when the library expansion construction is finally beginning. However, things get a little delayed when a body is found in the old house next door that is part of the expansion project. Not only is there a dead body, but no one knows who it belongs to or how long it's been there. In fact, it's possible the body has been there for years.

Unlike previous novels, this time the police detective, John, has a new foe to contend with, an investigative television report, Julie Theron, who is determined to make John and the Clover Ridge Police Department look like lazy fools. And the number one tool Theron plans on using to help make the Clover Ridge PD and John look bad is the town Nancy Drew, Carrie Singleton. Of course, Carrie wants to stay out of this police investigation, but the investigation quickly hits much closer to home and Carrie is forced to do a little investigating by a shove from the spiritual side and her new "best friend" the investigative reporter.

As a whole, I love cozy mysteries and I truly enjoyed this one as well. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has read the previous books in the series. If you haven't read the other books, you don't necessarily need to them to enjoy this book, but I would recommend going back to Book 1 and working your way up.

This is my first book by this author and it didn't disappoint me, it keep me up all night to read this. The characters were great, so was the flow of the story. Hope to read more in the series and it was definitely a great read.

Dewey Decimated by Allison Brook is a cozy mystery with a cat and a haunted library.

Murders occur and the ghost of one of the victims haunts the library. A bit of comedy mixed in with the mystery set in a library with a nice community.

Ms. Brook has written another fascinating addition to her Haunted Library cozy mystery series in this sixth book, Dewey Decimated. I believe it could be read as a stand alone book but it would easier to understand the relationships of the characters if you've read the previous books.

Carrie is really busy now in Clover Ridge, CT being an integral part of the library, the library addition/renovation and now a town council member. I could feel her tension when she began to feel overwhelmed at points in the story. Due to her dysfunctional childhood, she's also hesitant to begin to plan her and Dylan's wedding which some times added to her tension. A new character, Julie Theron, is one of those characters that I love to hate and brought quite a few sparks throughout the story. Ms. Brook's descriptive writing made it possible for me to feel that I was right in Clover Ridge with Carrie and her friends as she meets a new ghost, embraces her new responsibilities as a town council member, and resists the urge to solve the cold case murder and then jumps in when a new murder occurs that seems to be related. Only a limited number of suspects, deft twists and turns and a few red herrings kept this tight plot moving until it reached the reveal that was both funny and dramatic.

Thank you to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for an advance copy of this title in exchange for a review.

Town librarian Carrie Singleton is hoping to have a moment to take a breather from solving murder mysteries and to enjoy being engaged. Unfortunately, when a dead body is found in the library and this man’s ghost begins to haunt the library, she finds herself drawn into solving the mystery of his identity and his murder. When another townsperson is murdered, Carrie, the library’s resident ghost Evelyn, and cat Smokey Joe are in a race against time to discover who is at the bottom of these killings and how to stop them before more Clover Ridge residents are killed.

Our library patrons love cozy mysteries, and, having seen how popular the other books in this series are, I thought it would be fun to give it a shot. With two separate library ghosts and mystery-solving cat, this book was a little zany for my personal tastes, but it was still a lot of fun, and I know it will be just as big a hit as its predecessors with our patrons. 4 stars, and looking forward to seeing where the rest of the series goes.

3⭐⭐⭐ Thank you to NetGalley and Crooked Lane for the ARC for Dewey Decimated by Allison Brook. Mixed feelings about this book. I enjoyed the earlier ones on this series, but struggled with this one and the one before it. In this one, I didn't think there was enough Evelyn (library ghost). I love the relationship Evelyn and Carrie have, but didn't feel the connection between them this time. The murder mystery was interesting when I first started to read it, but then it started to drag. I can't figure out why, but towards the end, the mystery just couldn't hold my attention. This is all just my opinion, I am sure others read it and truly enjoyed every bit of it. Please, don't hate me for not loving it! I did give it at least a 3 because I do like the characters and will probably read the next one in this series.

I didn't realize this is the 6th in a series but I was able to catch up with the characters.
A haunted library with a cat, a ghost and a Psychic? this is a very niche genre already
Sometimes I might be in the mood for a fun cozy ghost cute story, but this one wasn't it.
I know its not supposed to be a realistic story but it was asking to much of me.

When a body is discovered next door, Carrie now has two ghosts roaming the library. When the mystery ghost with amnesia turns out to be Dylan's uncle things get interesting. Small town politics create tension when the council must decide on land left to the town, and someone winds up dead. Will Carrie figure out what happed all those years ago, and are the murders connected?

A fun and quick read, it is great for a day off. I found it easy to follow along even not having read the previous books. Thanks to Crooked Lane Books for the ARC and to NetGalley.

Thanks to NetGalley & Crooked Lane for providing a digital AR in exchange for an honest review.

This series does well in my library, and I figured I'd give it a go. I am devoted to the smart, funny Donna Andrews cozies but I can always use a new series to cleanse my palate; unfortunately, this one won't be it.

Carrie Singleton is a small-town librarian who's also newly on the town council (this feels like a conflict of interest to me, but local politics are often corrupt, sooooo OK). Not only is she known in the town for solving crimes, she can also see and communicate with a ghost who lives in the library. Um, OK. Better than a talking cat who helps solve mysteries, I guess, but not by much.

In this mystery, a body is discovered in an annex that is being repurposed for library use. Naturally, Carrie is interested, since she is the Miss Marple of her community. Carrie is a lot less slick than Miss Marple, though.

The workaday writing and overly measured plotting didn't work for me, even if I were of a mind to deal with a talking ghost (which I am not). This mystery reminded me of the cute-but-unexciting cozies by Jenn McKinlay, which I also really wanted to like. Alas! It was not meant to be for this reader.

This is book 6 in the series. I haven’t read the other ones yet but I was able to follow the story. I’m definitely getting the other books because i like the author’s writing style. It’s a cozy mystery that you won’t be able to put it down.

Why, why can't Carrie and the library enjoy some peace after solving a few murders lately? She should be enjoying time with her fiancé, instead a body turns up in the renovation project of the library expansion... and the body is related to her fiancé! Evelyn, the resident ghost helps a she can, but this time Carrie has voted to leave the solving to the police. She is busy with the library programs and the city board. But she just can't stay away...
