Oh, this was such a fantastic read! I did read what Jeaniene Frost initially posted of Bone's perspective of the first book, but this is the whole book, and yeah, I loved it! It was interesting to see what Bones was thinking-and what he knew. It was so great to get the other half of the story!

Of course I was excited to learn what Bones was thinking in these moments, besides the steamy stuff, because of course, it's Bones, there's going to be steam. But I didn't realize how quickly everything would happen. And some things that he knew, well, it was really interesting to learn that information!

Bones is very different from Cat, and I had a great time seeing her from the outside, because it's different from being inside her head. And her hatred of vampires, of herself, is a pretty big deal for him, not just for his romantic chances, but for her self-esteem and self worth. I felt bad, but knowing it would get better helped!

That ending, knowing it was coming, was hard. But it was one of the moments that I especially am glad that we got this book to be in Bone's head, because Cat wasn't there for this. So it was really fantastic to see what happened then, even though it hurt! Plus knowing what was coming (and the epilogue!) helped!

I loved this book, and I can't wait to see what Jeaniene Frost writes next!

10 Fangtastic Stars!

I was absolutely flabbergasted when I found out Jeaniene Frost was writing another Night Huntress book! And discovering it’s a new take on Halfway to the Grave, Book 1 of the series??? I counted down the hours–like all fans–impatiently waiting for its release day!

Today’s the day we’ve been waiting for!

The Other Half of the Grave, told exclusively from Bones’s point of view, is finally here! All Bones’s naughty thoughts and feelings for Cat will have your breath catching and your hands quickly and frequently fanning your face!

Bones is completely perplexed and poleaxed by this ridiculously brave and prudish and prissy half-breed vampire that shouldn’t even exist, and yet… and yet she does. There’s so much to read and experience you’ll quickly want to rush through it all, but I recommend you take your time. You may miss something if you rush!

You’ll bear witness to the heartache of Bones’s unrequited love for Cat and her disdain for him and his kind. You’ll swoon when Bones realizes his feelings for Cat, his triumph when she can no longer deny what’s between them and his attempts at wooing the skittish huntress. And you’ll absolutely need CPR as you hold your breath every single time Bones whips out his… vampire possessiveness every time he’s around Cat. What? What did you think I was going to say?😉

You’ll also get to experience a new take on Bones’s relationships with his best friend Spade and the vampires and people in his life. I really enjoyed exploring those relationships and having Bones’s side on events that happened in Halfway to the Grave.

I absolutely LOVED this book!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my goodness I was so freakin’ excited to see another side of Bones. The Other Half of the Grave gives the reader a different perspective into Cat and Bones’s love story and provides a deeper, richer reading experience. Get yourself a copy today!

Back in 2008/2009, I was reading all the paranormal romance I could get my hands on, but The Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost stood out as my favorite, and it is the only paranormal series that I have continued since then. Though I’ve kept up with Cat and Bones through their friends' stories, it had been a long while since I re-read the first book in the series, Halfway to the Grave .

I had intended to do a re-read before The Other Half of the Grave released, but I decided to enjoy it like a new story instead of picking it apart with comparisons. I am SO GLAD I did it that way. There was a lot I didn’t remember, and since it’s the same story from Bones’s POV there were plenty of scenes that were the same events, but we get to hear them from Bones’s mind.

“She was a brash, brave, foul-mouthed, murdering drunk, and God help him, he hadn’t found anyone this enticing in centuries.”

There were also plenty of scenes that were completely new, and it was cool getting to see what Bones was up to when he was away from Cat. Since we can’t see how much Cat actually likes Bones in this, her stubbornness and vampire hatred sometimes got a little frustrating to read about, I just wanted to shake her, because I knew how amazing Bones is now.

“Yes, she was fantasizing about ripping both of her weapons through his heart while he was feeling things he’d only heard of before, but who said romance was perfect?”

I can’t tell you how much fun I had coming back to this world. As soon as I finished I wanted to jump right to One Foot In The Grave (Night Huntress Book 2) to find out what happens, but I also now wanted to listen to the original from the OG POV, Cat’s. So in the end, I bought Halfway to the Grave on audio then jumped right into One Foot In The Grave.

Now I am re-listening to the whole series, and let me tell you, its spot at the top of my favorites list is well-deserved. If I was reading it for the first time today the series would still jump right to the top of my favorites list with everything I love: Action/adventure, romance, characters I want to be friends with, amazing banter, funny moments, and hot sex.

“I love you, Bones.” Light exploded through him. He’d never known joy could detonate like a bomb, but it did, and it filled his whole soul.”

I usually do Likes and Dislikes here, but I literally loved every word. I admit it, I am completely biased because I will take any scraps of Bones and Cat that I can get, and I’m thrilled to say that they did not disappoint. I am so happy to start the series again and be back in the Night Huntress world, that I may just have to get the whole series and all its spinoffs on audio and re-listen to it all. The *only* thing I would have liked more is if it was first-person in Bones's head.

One note: Jeaniene Frost updated some elements of the story. Beepers were replaced by cell phones and some more current references were added (like comparing Rodney to Ted Lasso).

The Down & Dirty:
The Other Half of the Grave by Jeaniene Frost was everything I could have dreamed of. I was nervous, because I've read a few other books that totally changed my opinion of the hero after reading their pov (and not in a good way). I was glad I went into this without a recent re-read of Halfway to the Grave (until after) because I wasn't comparing the two, and The Other Half of the Grave felt fresh and new. I loved reading this almost as much as I loved reading the first book so many years ago, and that's saying a lot, because I have read thousands of books since, and it still remains a favorite. If you are a fan of Cat and Bones, or you just want to start a new series, I 100% recommend The Other Half of the Grave.
Rating: 5 Stars, 4.5 heat

I have read all of the Night Huntress books and love Cat & Bones. I was kind of scared to read this one, as I don't always love reading a rewrite with the other person's POV, but this was great! If you like Cat and Bones, I'd highly recommend reading this. Reading it makes me want to do a reread of the entire series.

I would still recommend reading the book from Cat's point of view first as some things about vampires may be revealed quicker in Bones' mind than would be discovered by Cat.

One of my favourite vampire series is the Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost so to have the chance to delve into the world once again but by a different perspective (Bones) was a ton of fun!

I don’t usually read single male POVs either but Bones kept me hooked from start to finish.

So happy that Jeaniene decided to share this story, definitely recommend!

To read Bone's story in his own words was such a thrill. After reading the original series for many years, I did miss reading Cat and Bone's story. Cat and Bone are one of my favorite fictional couples. Bone's devotion and love for Cat is unmatched and it touched my heart. The vampires Bones and Cat work together in harmony to exterminate vampires who have murdered.

Thank you to Netgalley and The publisher for the ARC of this book. This was an honest review.

What an absolute treat! I loved Cat and Bones in the past and I got to relive it all again! Getting Bones’ perspective was even better after all this time because we really get to see how he fell in love and all the really cute thoughts he had about Cat from the beginning. I can’t help but smile thinking about it! This was a total five star read for me. It took my nostalgia to another level but it’s able to stand in its own—I think I would have loved it had I never read the other books. It’s just that good!!!

Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress Series is amazing, following Cat and Bones throughout has been more than a treat - but this, this novel is from Bones' perspective - and it is a refreshing and different insight into the beginning of Cat and Bones' relationship.

In the first book of this series, "Halfway to the Grave," we learned from Cat's perspective of her unique abilities and foray into the role of the 'Night Huntress' - from Cat we heard about her life, her insecurities, her difficult childhood and how she evolved until she met Bones. Then everything changed.

"The Other Half of the Grave" is the unique insight of that same timeline, only from the perspective of Bones, an extremely old and gifted vampire. Bones has already evolved into who he is and now the reader is given Bones' insights into the beginnings of his and Cat's relationship, the wisdom that he shares, and his attraction and respect for Cat. They could not be more different, yet perfect for each other.

It is a real gift to be able to read this perspective in this amazing series - and after having read the series this addition is really worth your time to read.

One of my favorite paranormal romances but told from the heroes POV.
I absolutely loved this! Everything I wanted and more. Bones is one of my favorite heroes and I really enjoyed getting his side of Halfway to the Grave.
Although this is the same story as Halfway to the Grave, I was still immersed in the story.
If you’re a fan of Cat & Bones this is a must read!

For paranormal romance Cat and Bones are high on the list of couples you remember. It's been awhile since I've read Halfway to the Grave, but seeing it again through Bones perspective was such a treat! Getting to relive their moments and see Cat in a different light was fun and romantic. You don't have to read Halfway to the Grave to enjoy this but it would enhanced the experience if you did. Although fans of the series will know how this book ends this will still keep you reading into the night. There are some extra scenes that we get to see and conversations that will just make you love Bones even more. It really is a wonderful treat for fans.

Special thanks to NetGalley and NYLA for sharing this ARC with me in exchange for my honest review.

Initial Thoughts/Expectations:
Considering how much I love this series, and these characters, I was SO excited when I realized this was coming. I had no doubt I would love it. I reread HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE before starting this one, just so I could make comparisons. (And because it’s been entirely too long since the last time I read it!) That just made me MORE excited to see it all through Bones’ eyes, lol.

What I Loved:
I loved how much being in Bones’ head reinforced all the things I love about his character. To be honest, there wasn’t a lot of brand new info in this story. Bones was always pretty up front with Cat about his thoughts and his actions (even if it sometimes was delayed, lol). There weren’t a lot of surprises. But knowing… not just being told, but actually going through the emotional WTFery right along with him… as he got to know Cat, THAT was fun! His frustration, his amusement, his pride, and eventually his love for her. It was a wild ride, for sure.

I also loved getting to “remember” his past with him, the good and the bad, and see more how those parts of his life made him the exact person he needed to be in this story. I really just loved getting to fall in love with him all over again.

What I didn’t Love:
It wasn’t exactly a “didn’t love”, but since I got this as an audio for review, I got to hear Bones’ accent. It REALLY threw me for a bit at the beginning, because it was NOT the British accent I was expecting, lol! We know he didn’t come from “high brow society”, but that fact, and what that likely meant for the accent he’d have, never really occurred to me. It was like listening to a grown up Oliver Twist instead of a Bridgerton, lol! (Which, given his history, makes perfect sense, of course.) It took me a little while, but eventually the voice just became Bones, and it was fine.

Final Thoughts:
Loved. It. So. Much.
Again… if you’re hoping for a lot of brand new action or information, it’s just not here. Jeaniene did such a fantastic job of creating a couple that was open and honest (for the most part) with each other, right from the start. There really aren’t too many secrets to tell here at the start of things. But having said that, there is ABSOLUTELY value and joy in seeing it all unfold through Bones’ eyes. It’s the same story, but there’s a whole new layer of feeling and experience that just makes it more endearing. For Cat & Bones fans, it’s a must read.

Thank you, Jeaniene, for this gift.

I'm generally not a big reader of alternate POV from published material -- I've seen it done badly and with too many repetitive scenes and dialogue, so even though I adore this series and Cat and Bones, I was a little hesitant about reading The Other Half of the Grave. I'm happy to say I absolutely loved this book.

Even though most readers will know this story from reading Cat's version of how she met Bones and the things they got into, Bones' version was fresh and interesting and just as entertaining as Cat's point of view. Maybe it was just that it was a long time since I read Cat's version in Halfway To the Grave, but I really loved reading Bones point of view. There is a reason we all love the Bones, and it's on the pages of this book in spades. (haha)

If you haven't read the original series in Cat's point of view, I definitely recommend reading that first before reading Bones POV. What I found most interesting was reading how Bones processed his feelings, and I've always loved this character for the fact that he does have that one vulnerability -- his love for Cat. That comes through so very well in this book. I love it when the male character in a romance falls hard and Bones love for Cat just shines through here.

The author does a great job of giving the reader more than just a rehash of the original material. There are some new scenes the reader didn't get in the Cat point of view which made this an all the more worthwhile read

So, I just loved this. As a longtime fan of the Cat and Bones series, The Other Half of the Grave adds more to the love story that is Cat and Bones. It made me want to re-read the entire series again. Readers of the series, you're going to want to grab a copy of this. And if you haven't read this exciting paranormal romance series you should get on it. It's terrific -- one of the best out there, and be sure to pick up a copy of The Other Half of the Grave too!

I inhaled the Night Huntress series back in the summer of 2017, working my way through the seven books of the initial series as well as a bunch of spin-offs. I was absolutely entranced by the world Jeaniene Frost created and it quickly became one of my favorite paranormal romance stories. One of the things I really liked about the books was that (for the most part) the stories are told solely from the heroine’s first-person point of view. But of course I (and pretty much everyone else who’s read the book) have always wanted a peek at inside the hero’s head, especially for pivotal events. So I was greatly amused by the author posting the first bits of Bone’s POV on her blog, and pleasantly surprised when she announced that she’d be publishing a whole book. But would reading the book from Bones’ viewpoint be interesting enough to outweigh the fact that I’d quite literally read it before?

“She was a brash, brave, foul-mouthed, murdering drunk, and God help him, he hadn’t found anyone this enticing in centuries.”

The short answer? Yes, for the most part, it works out. The insta-love between Bones and Cat is, well, still insta-lovey, but it at least explains a little better what about Cat first caught his eye. It also sets the stage for some some epic pining (along with some very sweet – and confused – musings about what makes her so special). I always got the sense that Bones had a very good understanding of what Cat was going through, and this book makes it clear that frankly he had a much better understanding of Cat herself than she did for quite a while. Experiencing everything Cat went through from her perspective was heartbreaking, but in some ways experiencing it through Bones’ is equally jarring. He cares so much for her and treasures her uniqueness, but for her it’s only a source of shame. That’s not to say it’s all endless pining. Not surprisingly, he’s also quite funny, especially when he’s feeling exceedingly murderous about Cat’s mom.

The book isn’t a complete copy-and-paste retelling. There are extra scenes, from the expected “what the heck was Bones doing when he was off-page?” to a few new scenes between Bones and Cat. It was charming to see how Bones reacted to figuring out he was in insta-love with Cat (he calls Charles!) and the scenes between him and Ian were hilarious as well. It also fixes some of the, uh, late nought UF language that didn’t age particularly well.

“Weakness was fleeting. Vengeance was forever.”

Overall, finishing this book up did make me want to jump into a massive series reread. I wouldn’t recommend this as a good entry-point to the series, but rather the cherry on top to Cat’s finished (for now?) series. Highly recommended for any Cat & Bones fan!

I received an advance review copy of this book from NetGalley. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Be still my beating heart!

This book was freaking fantastic! It is dedication/tribute and a love letter to the fans for the series of Half Way to the Grave but from Bones perspective. It really made my heart melt because this was the first time we finally got to see how deeply bones feeling for Cat ran. It just made me love him more! While the content of the book is pretty similar to halfway to the grave I wasn't phased by it, Frost has a fantastic way of writing an I'm excited for what she produces next!

The Other Half of the Grave by Jeaniene Frost
Night Huntress 1.1 but written after a dozen of the various series books. The same story as Halfway to the Grave but from Bone’s perspective.
An amateur female vampire Hunter tries to kill Bones and he’s more amused than worried. She’s determined and strong and apparently half vampire. A practically unheard of existence. He becomes enamored and they work together to eliminate his enemies.

I wouldn’t recommend reading this directly after the first book because it’s the same story. It has been updated for current technology but you don’t want to skip parts because you think you know what’s going to happen.
I would recommend reading this for anyone that’s read part of the series.
It’s AWESOME getting Bone’s perspective. We’re feeling his emotions from the depth of his hurt at a casual word from Cat or his pride in her training. The sheer joy he feels when she admits to caring for him and his despair when she can’t say the words.
Being in his head made this world complete and incredibly moving.
LOVED it so much.
I don’t generally reread books because of the number of new books I have yet to read. But I can see rereading, or listening to this on a regular basis. Even though there are tragic and sorrowful events in this first book, the magnitude of his love is so big, it makes it an epic love story. While still killing the bad guy vampires.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley. I have purchased a copy to keep as well.

This was an entertaining, well-written book. It was steamy, fast-paced and I didn't want to put it down. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books by this author.

As if I already didn't love Bones and after reading this, my love for him is indefinite. I honestly didn't think I needed a Bones POV until it was right in front of my face for me to devour. Normally I'm such a speed reader, but I took my time with this one and it was so worth it.

It's been several years since I've read this series and there were a ton of things that I simply forgot about. Reading The Other Half of the Grave definitely felt new to me especially when it came to the moments we see with Cat.

Getting his POV, there were quite a few things that were so unexpected, especially emotionally. And that had me swooning so bad. Look, Vlad was the first I read about from this world and he's my #1. And after I finished this, Bones was getting pretty close to taking over that spot. I have no idea if Jeaniene plans to write more of Vlad, but if that's the case, I'm sure that will absolutely ensure his top position.

I don't know what else to say about this book except that I loved it. And fans will too, it's a win all around. Thank you, Jeaniene, for giving us this lovely book, it easily makes my top fave list for 2022.

Over 2 years ago I was turned onto Jeanine Frost’s Night series and I was immediately a Stan! I loved all the books and obsessively read them all- some more than once! So, this re-telling of the meeting/ start for the series between Cat and Bones being told from Bones perspective was a real treat!

For starters, one does not need to have read the read of the series to start here. We are given an event by event re-telling of Halfway to the Grave, but just from the MMC’s perspective, other than the MFC (Cat) as the original series perspective.

I lived getting Bones’ thoughts and processes from his side. One of the main things that bothered me about the Night Huntress series was the one-sided narration. There is a lot going on in this story, so having both side of the coin revealed was very revealing. On the flip side, still reading this story from one perspective, did leave me wishing that is just told in a dual narration format.

This book was like reading a blast from that past, and as I was going through it, I found myself anxiously awaiting specific events and happily seeing them from this alternate side. Also, speaking of the past, I could’t help keeping a lookout for time period specific details that matched up with the original 2007 story. That was 15 years ago- mind blown!

One thing that I didn’t love about this retelling was Cat’s representation. She seemed really whiney and lacked the strong, independent, kick-butt attitude that personifies Cat for me. BUT I will say, that I think a re-read of Halfway to the Grave would be the true tell in this situation. She is new and learning her strengths and abilities ere, so I will also chalk this up to her character not being the fully developed Cat that we see as the series progresses.

Overall, this was great addition to the Night Huntress series! As a fan of Bones, I loved getting an all Bones book and I would definitely be on board to have the next book retold from his side!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Gah! I have missed this series so much. One of my all-time favorites. Seeing it from Bones point of view.. I love it even more! Now... to re-read the series.

I still can’t believe that Bones’ POV is finally here!
The Night Huntress series has been my favorite vampire universe since I discovered it in 2007. “Back in my day” we didn’t have kindle recommendations, and there wasn’t #bookstagram and #booktok. I found Halfway to the Grave the old fashioned way, by judging the book by its cover at Target.

Clearly, I’ve been hoping for this book to be written since reading Halfway to the Grave 15 years ago! Wow that makes me feel old. Once upon a time I belonged to a Jeaniene Frost online fan club chat group. Are you getting it now? Bones is my favorite vampire of ALL TIME. No pressure for Jeaniene Frost at all!

Halfway to the Grave is the first book in The Night Huntress series. It’s the telling of a half human, half vampire woman. She is on a murderous rampage to kill all vampires as vengeance for her mother’s trauma. She accidentally crosses Bones, a super sexy and super powerful bounty-hunter vampire. Rather than kill her, he utilizes her disguise as a human for his business in stopping evil vamps. Cat agrees if only to protect her family, but of course she can’t resist falling in love with Bones. The Other Half of the Grave, is what readers have always wanted, Bone’s perspective of how they fall in love.

The Other Half of the Grave had the power to easily destroy me.

It’s a delicate thing to love something fictional that is “complete”, and then the author makes a comeback. Jeaniene Frost did not let me down. If anything, she opened up a door that only makes me crave more! Readers should already adore Bones for his fierceness, loyalty, and sexy swagger that leaps of the page and makes them shiver. Watching him fall in love with Cat from his own perspective is a sweet kind of torture. It was unbelievably satisfying, and yet totally cruel because now I’m addicted to his mind, and I need MORE!

I appreciate Frost’s note in the book that a few things were updated in the story to keep with today’s technological advances. These additions to the story weren’t distracting, and it all flowed well. While 15 years is a long time to wait, Jeaniene Frost was right to let this story come to her as naturally as it did. While I wish Bones had spoken to her much much sooner, we’re lucky that his POV came flowing through her at all.

HONESTLY… if you’re any kind of paranormal romance reader, pick up The Other Half of the Grave on April 26th, and then continue the series and ALL of its spin-offs. No one writes a vampire like Jeaniene Frost. Trust me on that.

Jeaniene, if you see this, pleeeeeeeeease start listening to Vlad next. His POV would be intense!
