Nancy Guthrie is always on point with her books. I am so thankful for her ministry. This book is no exception to the greatest I have seen from her in the past! Revelation is such a tricky book to understand and so it is amazing to have a resource that helps you understand what's going on and even connecting it to other parts of scripture. I highly recommend going to her website and purchasing her guide that goes with the book and answering the questions as you go. It helps in my retention and understanding of the book! Thank you Netgalley and Crossway for this advanced reader.

Nancy Guthrie studies are excellent and this does not disappoint! She takes many parts of revelation and makes them understandable! I did a Revelation study a few years ago and this one was much better!

Back of the Book: “Blessed, by bestselling author and speaker Nancy Guthrie, gives individuals and small groups a friendly, theologically reliable, and robust guide to understanding the book of Revelation.”

Impressions: I was surprised by this book. After reading the preface I could tell that this was going to challenge and change my ideas on the book of Revelation. Revelation recalls apocalyptic talk, but this book introduces a new perspective of Revelation to me. The book is a unique and in-depth commentary of Revelation. It has made me excited about the book of Revelation and has changed my thinking and reluctance to read this chapter of the Bible.

Quotes: “Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.” -Revelation 1:3

I received an ARC of this book via the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review shared here. For more book reviews go to: https://simplyannehere.wordpress.com

The book of Revelation was always confusing for me. The resources I would find only added to the confusion. Blessed by Nancy Guthrie has taken that confusion away. This is such a wonderful book! I recommend this highly! This was the first book I have read by Nancy and I can't wait to read more!

Thank you Crossway and NetGalley for this ARC!

Which one will you serve? From which will you draw your life, your identity, your satisfaction, your security.

This question is for all of mankind and how you answer is what you will experience. I have been ministered greatly by Nancy Guthrie. She is worshipful in her approach to teaching and that is the thread that she uses in the book of Revelation. Her focus is not on the prophetic but with the explanation of the bowls and trumpets, it is all about the worship and who we worship. How we can be deceived by false teaching, world systems, politics, and the like.

Love and worship are words that are thrown around loosely but a good study of Revelation such as this, will be the blessing you seek as you come to understand the holiness and judgement of God on a world that has rejected him. Highly recommend.

A special thank you to Crossway Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

Excellent. Guthrie makes Revelation both accessible and enjoyable. She addresses interpretive issues without getting bogged down. She walks through Rev verse by verse, but does a great job keeping the big picture in mind and focusing on Jesus.

Thanks Netgalley for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

The Book of Revelation is meant to bring hope and courage to those who trust Christ. Nancy Guthrie opens this often controversial book with solid exposition and winsome application. She opens the text in a way that removes confusion and gives readers an awe for their great God who is in control of all things, especially the promises of eternity. She does not get bogged down in controversies, but focuses on those things which are straightforward and focus on the triune God.

Guthrie is one of my favorite authors and this book is one of her best. I have plans to purchase multiple copies to share and am considering using this book in a group setting. It would bring great blessing to anyone who needs to endure by setting their eyes on Christ.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This is the best book I have ever read on Revelation. I have already been a big fan of Nancy Guthrie's writing and was so excited to see this book come out. Nancy writes in a captivating way that makes you see how the whole of scripture points to Jesus and Blessed is no exception here. One thing I greatly appreciate about reading this book is that it has prompted rich theological discussion between my husband and I.

Nancy breaks the book of Revelation down into bite sized pieces, so you can read about 2 chapters of scripture per each chapter in the book. There's a lot of cross references throughout scripture to help make the text less intimidating and so much easier to understand. I especially appreciated the way the book made me think and look deeper into the text.

While I was given a digital copy of this book from NetGalley and Crossway in exchange for my review, I do plan on purchasing a hard copy so I can read it again and continue to gain wisdom. I would recommend this book for personal Bible study (and you can get more resources for that from Nancy's website), as well as for a small group Bible study. It would be best for 8-11 weeks, in my opinion. This is a great book for both new Christians and seasoned believers alike, regardless of your familiarity with the book of Revelation. Anyone and everyone can be blessed and grow from reading it.

Revelation has always been scary and confusing to me, and up until a couple years ago, it was a Book I avoided altogether. Nancy Guthrie breaks it down and makes it much easier to learn, and Blessed has made me even more excited for the New Jerusalem! This book is encouraging in so many ways and I will definitely read more from this author.

The book of Revelation is one of the most mysterious and some say difficult books to understand. With the many numeric signs, images, symbols, visions of wars, and destruction, people tend to be intimidated into avoiding the study of the book altogether. Author and popular Bible teacher Nancy Guthrie know it personally. This is especially when she was called to teach a class on Revelation at her church. After pushing aside initial reservations, she was struck by the way the apocalyptic text begins: "Blessed." That sparked her interest and laid the foundation for this Bible Study guide on Revelation. From this inspiration, she aims to help others in overcoming their fears about this letter. She deals with fears of not understanding it enough; concern about controversial interpretations; misguided views about the letter merely about the future without existential relevance; and other uncomfortable reasons for not studying the text at all. She then goes on to describe the reasons why we should be studying Revelation. Using one of the most popular words to hook our interest, she chooses the lens of Blessing to uncover 12 promises in Revelation.

1) Blessing of Hearing the Revelation
2) Blessing of Seeing Jesus Glorified
3) Blessing of Being Known by Jesus
4) Blessing of Worshiping Jesus
5) Blessing of Protection
6) Blessing of Being on Mission
7) Blessing of Living and Dying in Jesus
8) Blessing of Getting Ready for Jesus' Return
9) Blessing of Preparing to be the Bride of Christ
10) Blessing of Sharing in the Resurrection
11) Blessing of Living in the New Creation
12) Blessing of Keeping Jesus' Words

Each chapter follows the same format. Based on an introductory a passage from Revelation, Guthrie typically begins with a personal story or illustration to highlight a need in our lives. She then moves forth to open up the meaning of the Revelation passage with a particular eye on the promises of the text to us. She then describes the relevance of the blessings and how we can be blessed.

My Thoughts
==============
When the word "beatitude" is mentioned, most people would think of the beginning of Jesus' famous sermon on the mount. Here, the author gives us 12 blessings to ponder upon and relate them to God's promise to us. Using such a lens of blessings helps disarm readers from their oft fear-driven resistance to study Revelation. Guthrie does a good job of pointing out the reasons why people avoid Revelation and why they should study Revelation. This should calm readers' anxiety over tackling this often misunderstood letter of John. Guthrie shares her own story about her initial fears and subsequent openness to studying the text. This is something that should encourage those of us still sitting on the fence about whether or not to take the plunge. If one does after reading this book, it would have worth the price of the book.

The strength of this book lies in its simplicity and easy-to-follow framework. The letter of Revelation is written to encourage believers in the midst of great persecution. It is also a reminder to anticipate future events that are coming fast and furious. Compared to some other more academic and technical writings, this book is written for the layperson. It is one thing to pack all the technical material into the book but yet another to arrange the book according to themes. As far as the study of Revelation is concerned, this is one of the simplest thematic approaches I have come across. Kudos to Guthrie for giving us another resource to aid us in the study of the Bible, especially, the more difficult ones.

Finally, learning about the blessings of Revelation should not be the end of the study. Rather, it should spur us to discover more of the treasures and insights either textually, thematically, or theologically. Till then, if one has never read or studied Revelation, let this book guide one to start the journey of learning and discovery.

Nancy Guthrie teaches the Bible at her home church, Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Franklin, Tennessee, as well as at conferences around the country and internationally, including her Biblical Theology Workshops for Women. She is the host of the Help Me Teach the Bible podcast from the Gospel Coalition and the author of numerous books, including Even Better than Eden and Saints and Scoundrels in the Story of Jesus. She and her husband are cohosts of the GriefShare video series and lead Respite Retreats for couples who have faced the death of a child.

Rating: 4.25 stars of 5.

Blessed
Experiencing the Promise of the Book of Revelation

I am reviewing a copy of Blessed through Crossway and Netgalley:

Blessed is over 12 chapters and covers the full book of Revelation, it explores it call to patience endurance as God’s sovereign plans for judgment and salvation are worked out in the world. In this book, Guthrie shows how Revelation is less about when Jesus will return and more about who we are to be, what we are to do, and what we can expect to endure as we wait for Jesus to return to establish his kingdom in the new creation.

Blessed is written in a friendly and engaging tone. It takes the fear, intimidation, and confusion away from studying Revelation, providing a solid and accessible resource that individuals and small groups can use to study this important yet often avoided book.

I give Blessed five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!
