This solidifies Alston as one of the best voices in middlegrade today. Readers of all ages are bound to fall in love with this series.

Another great adventure. Just like the first book, this story has a series of challenges that Amari has to face and also just like the first book, it seems like everyone but Elsie are against her. You don't know who to trust and it ends on a happy ending but also a sort of cliffhanger where you wonder where there's characters are going to go from here.

This was fun, my only small complaint is I wanted Amari to enjoy being in the bureau more. Everything was a struggle for her here, so hopefully we can see her having a bit more fun in book three.

This series is truly beloved in my heart and this sequel maintains my interest in seeing where this series goes. Best if read in conversation with other middle-grade fantasy books such as Maya and the Rising Dark and Moonflower.

I loved this book, and had such a fun time reading about Amari. There are just as many surprises in book 2 as in book 1. I rarely read 2nd books in a series, but this was so good that I will definitely continue in the series.

Another stellar installment in the Amari series. I absolutely love the world Alston has created and in this book, we get to go even deeper into the Magicians. Looking forward to the next book!

Amari’s back and better than ever!
🪄
Amari has found her brother (even though he’s not fully back in the land of the living) and saved the entire supernatural world, (even if she lost her best friend afterwards). But now it’s time for summer camp as a Junior Agent. The only thing standing in her way is a new Head Minister’s anti-magician agenda, rivalries turned into forced partners, and people being frozen. On top of that a new league of Magicians offers Amari a chance at joining them. When she refuses they get another candidate: one who will compete against Amari in the Great Game. The winner will decide who will be the future of the magic world. This game will have the highest stakes ever for young Amari.
🪄
Just when you thought Amari couldn’t get any better, the sequel blows it out of the water! What an awesome return to this world. I love the characters, the cliffhangers on each chapter (and at the end!) and cannot wait for the next installment! Fans of HP, Percy Jackson, Artemis Fowl and Tristan Strong get this recommendation every time. Amari is the new, updated and future of middle grade fantasy!

CW: violence, coma, bullying

5 stars! Thank you Netgalley for the arc! This was one of my most anticipated reads of the year! Amari and the Night Brothers was one of my favorite reads last year and the sequel did not disappoint. I will continue to shout B.B. Alston's praises from every roof top!

LOVED! Just as great as the first one and I can't wait to see where Amari's story goes next. I shed a tear at the end of this one.

A sequel that lives up to its hype and is as thrilling and fun as the first book in the series! Definitely worth checking out and recommending to readers.

Amari and the Great Game was highly anticipated and it didn't disappoint! Amari is back for another summer session and the stakes are higher than ever. She's still dealing with the fallout of Dylan's betrayal and trying to figure out how to break the curse on Quinton. This year her friend Jayden is going to be at the school and she promised to help him get settled.

Before Amari can even get to another summer session, she must deal with blame being placed on her for a time freeze that has left the Supernatural Congress frozen. Luckily she has people like Elsie in her corner to fight for her. But as things go from bad to worse she finds herself locked in a battle against Dylan to see who will be crowned the head magician.

There's a lot going on in this book! Sometimes there wasn't enough balance between The Great Game challenges and the time freeze mystery, and regular training at school. So the middle did lag a little bit. But then that ending came and gave the much needed jolt that has me anticipating book 3!

So amazing!
I loved what Alston did with the role of the "media" in this book and how it affects the perception of people on the information coming to them. There's still the whimsical MiB feeling from the first book as well as the appropriateness for middle grade however the world expands in an addicting way. Then there's that cliffhanger ending! I want the third book now!

The stakes are higher than ever in Amari and The Great Game. There’s a new Prime Minister who wants to ban Unwanteds, a possible war brewing, a time freeze to uncover, a competition called The Great Game and Amari’s brother, Quinton still being cursed. Amari’s left to deal with new and old enemies while also, still being outcasted in the supernatural community.

I said this in the first book and I’ll say it again, Amari’s a breath of fresh air of a heroine. She’s consistently still someone you root for. She’s brave and resilient despite whatever horrible circumstances are thrown her way. Elsie and Amari’s friendship is still as sweet and strong as ever. I was happy to see Jayden play more of a major role in this book as I enjoyed getting to meet him in Amari and The Night Brothers.

Although I didn’t love this one as much as the first book, Alston sure knows how to set us up with great cliffhangers. That ending, c’mon!! I’m eager to see where the series goes next.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for providing me an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A wonderful follow-up! Amari is a great character. I love that the book features friendships and themes of found family. It's great for upper elementary because it's fun and meaningful without any love, etc to worry about.

Amari a magician has shown strength that only a girl who has experienced trauma can find. She is faced with constant doubt by peers and herself. She doesn’t believe in her own strength until she faced with her fears and racism. Amari is a girl who finds true friends that believe in her and trust her. She gains strength from her loves and uses her magic for unselfish reason insist to stay on the path of good no matter what the cost. Amari is a girl with a heart of gold!

My love for Amari only grows stronger by the book. I don't know what else to tell you. This is one of the most amazing series for children and I'm so glad I got to fall in love with it as an adult. My only regret is that I didn't get to read it as a kid.

Amari is such a complex and captivating character, I loved her from the first moment I met her and seeing her grow in this book was even more incredible.
I loved the plot in this one, I was really so invested in the story and the characters.
I also just love the magic system so much.
Honestly, I love everything about this series, it is utter perfection. I just want it to have a million books, I'll never tire of it!
And if you haven't read it yet, you really really should.

I love Amari! I will read every single book in this series twice. I will recommend it to every middle grade reader I see. I will encourage families to listen to the audiobook as a family so everyone can enjoy it. I love Amari as a hero for young people. BB Alston has done something extraordinary.

Amari is back from rescuing her brother but he isn’t out of the woods yet. It is time for her to go back to school and she can’t wait she gets to see her brother and her best friend is starting school there as well. But her plans go off track when they bar magicians from school and start rounding them up just because of what they think one might have done.
This is a bit of history retold if you think about it, and also a great non-stop action book for all ages. I love the Amari character she is determined and won’t take no for an answer if she knows she is right, I like how she can rally her friends behind her for her cause but always gives them a out to keep them safe. Amari can be unsure and worry about things at the same time walk into danger that might take away her magic forever. This is a wonderful book and a awesome series I hope I get to read more.

Middle Grade Fantasy. [book:Amari and the Night Brothers|53240817] was one of my most memorable reads of 2021, so I was very excited to read the second book in the series. This book picks up the action right away, with Amari reporting back to the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs with Elsie as her roommate. There is a new Deputy Prime Minister, Bane, who is a wraith determined to rid the society of Magicians and other Unwanteds. Amari initially gets un-invited from camp, but her high-profile gets her quickly invited back. There has been a time freeze, where Merlin (the actual Prime Minster) and the rest of the Supernatural Congress are frozen in time. Everyone thinks a magician is to blame, and Amari is a prime suspect. She tries to clear her name and becomes more and more convinced that it was done by her old partner turned nemesis, Dylan Van Helsing.

As Amari investigates, she has her partner Lara Van Helsing, mentor Maria Van Helsing, and her best friend Elsie helping her conduct the investigation. They find ways to sneak into all sorts of corners of the Bureau-- from the time department to the dream department. Meanwhile Amari has been challenged to a competition with Dylan that she is sworn to secrecy about. She disappears when the game ring calls and finds herself in all sorts of perilous conditions.

I loved this book as much as the first. Such a great adventure, full of friends, family, and magic. It's so cool to see how the agents' talents become magnified into their supernatural powers, and makes me wonder which of my talents would be enhanced. I know there is at least one more book, but I am hoping that there is more than three in the series because I will keep coming back.
