This was very fun! I loved the format and all the little nuances Christine and Em added about their own experiences in the towns mentioned. I will say, and this is nothing against the actual book or ATWWD, I don’t think the text translated great to audio only because you could listen to the podcast and get the same effect. But the content was still great and still very enjoyable!

Podcast hosts of ‘And that’s why we drink’ have complied their haunted and true crime stories for a road trip that you aren’t likely to forget. Team Wine (Christine she/her)handles the true crime and Team Milkshake (Em They/Them) handles the paranormal. Em and Christine make a great team and sound like they have a genuinely good time together, which makes the read feel like they’re hanging out with friends while reading this.

I am a listener of #andthatswhywedrinkpodcast so when I saw this, I was super excited! Lemon 🍋 even makes an appearance in the book. I really wanted them to “visit” Cape Cod (hello we have a crap ton of ghosts and murders!). They have done an episode on the oldest wooden jail and Barnstable (which Em pronounced Barn-Stable) House, which is on my way to Target. My only complaint is that the book retells stories already done in the podcast, I’d really have like new stories. That being said I did like that they told you the episode name so you could go listen if you were so inclined. I enjoyed this book and finished it pretty quickly.

Perfect for fans of And That's Why We Drink who want to relive some of the wildest true crime and paranormal stories Christine and Em have shared on tour or for fans of the genre who want some backstory and tips on spooky attractions across the country.

As a huge fan of their podcast, I was so thankful to have received a review copy of A Haunted Road Atlas. If you're also a fan, I believe that you'll find listening to Em and Christine narrate really fun and comforting. For those who are not already familiar with how the author's talk on the show/how they communicate with each other, I do think that the transitions in the audio book could be a little tricky as they're not always obvious and I would probably suggest trying the physical copy first.

I think A Haunted Road Atlas will translate over to the written version extremely well, especially if there is a map of the country included. I especially love that they tell you which episode they tell each story in so that you can go to that specific episode (or episodes) and listen to them go more in-depth about each story.

I highly recommend this for fans of Em, Christine, the show, and the genre itself.

I am a huge fan of theirs and their podcast! And That’s Why We Drink has gotten me through a lot of rough times in my life. Listening to them talk about paranormal and true crime things is the best! Highly recommend their podcast.

This book though, I thought that this is the perfect travel guide to all paranormal and true crime haunts across the country. They break this down by different cities in the US and major haunts and cases that happened there. They also tell you which episode they spoke of this topic so you can listen to them go more in-depth if you would like!
I also enjoyed at the end there was a whole recommendation section for each city! So you had locations you can check out if you go to those cities! I will 100% be purchasing this when it comes out!!

This audiobook gives you the same atmosphere of listening to the podcast and I felt like that was comforting in hearing Em and Christine narrate this themselves. While this was more “professional” than the podcast I still greatly enjoyed it! I would highly recommend the audiobook if you are a fan of the podcast, yet I also believe this would be a PERFECT coffee table book to have in your house!!

This audiobook was my introduction to Christine Schiefer and Em Schulz and their successful podcast, And That's Why We Drink. If the audiobook is anything like their podcast (which I assume that it is), consider me a fan. It was incredibly interesting, and I enjoyed listening to them discuss both paranormal and true crime stories from all over the United States. Every time they mentioned the Ghost Adventures introduction had me cackling, and I loved their sense of humor. I may have to purchase a physical copy of the book so that I can take full advantage of the lengthy recommendations list at the end! I've always wanted to visit local haunted places or take paranormal road trip somewhere and this book serves as some motivation to finally do it.

Lastly, I appreciate Christine and Em's sensitivity and acknowledgement of the victims of often gruesome crimes and different topics, including travel to Hawai'i.

A quick, fun listen. If you enjoy true crime with comedic breaks, you’ll enjoy this book. I don’t listen to the ‘And that’s why we drink’ podcast, but I’ve heard of it and I enjoy similar shows, so I figured this would be right up my alley.

It’s entertaining and informative, with some true crime stories I hadn’t heard and references to full episodes I’ll probably go and listen to. The hosts do sound very similar, so as someone unfamiliar with the podcast I sometimes struggled to tell who was who, but it didn’t matter much overall.

Due to the nature of this book I do think it would be more enjoyable in print, simply because that would enable you to fully engage with (presumably) the maps and such that are included, and - for those of us not from the continental US - to better grasp whereabouts the events take place.

Overall it was an enjoyable listen and I’ll probably check out the print version at some point for all the illustrations the blurb promises.

A Haunted Road Atlas by Christine Schiefer and Em Schulz was a fun and interesting listen. I am not familiar with the podcast And That’s Why We Drink, mostly because I never do podcast but I could easily find myself listening to it if this book is an indication of how they are like the rest of the time. The book combines true crime and paranormal (two of my favorite things) in big cities around the U.S. as well as interesting facts, oddities, shops, and dining recommendations that were awful to listen to on an empty stomach. I was getting so hungry.
The audiobook is read by the two authors and was fun short bites of information, getting to the meat of what they were telling without a lot of extra information. I did do this as an audiobook but I believe the book might be fun to look at as well because there are supposed to be pictures and I think they’d be a fun addition to hearing about everything.

I'm a huge fan of paranormal road trips so I couldn't wait to dig into this one. I had never heard of the "And That's Why We Drink" podcast but I am now a new fan. This guide has all the wonderful facts that come from all road trip guides but Christine and Em have personalized it with humor and wit. The White House is a popular spot mentioned in guides and as a DC native, I thought I'd heard them all but not quite like this! My only concern, for the audio version, is that things tend to blend together after awhile; there's no real transition between the stories besides a quick mention of the city, which makes it difficult to keep up. Otherwise, this was very well done and incredibly entertaining.

I'm an OG fan of the And That's Why We Drink podcast, so I was incredibly excited to see that Em and Christine had written a book.

A Haunted Road Atlas finds Em Schulz and Christine Schiefer sharing the stories and cities of haunted places and diabolical crimes they discovered from their own time on the road during their podcast tour. I definitely believe in ghost stories, so after listening to a couple hours of this at night I decided to take a break and hit play again during the day. You never know what's lurking in the dark! (*cough* Lalaurie Mansion *cough*)

Though I enjoyed the audiobook, I'll definitely be picking up a hard copy. I think that the way the book is laid out makes the printed version is a must have.

Favourite parts: Learning about a ghost named Amanda 😉, Em and Christine's own stories about paranormal encounters, and the callouts to specific podcast episodes related to the stories told.

I love listening to Christine and Em’a podcast, And This is Why We Drink, so when I saw that they had a book coming out, I couldn’t wait to read it!

An interactive travel guide across the US, Christine and Em share their most memorable travel adventures chronicling haunted locations that they visited, paranormal landmarks, and tales of true crime from the cities they stopped at while on tour.

I personally loved hearing about the cities near me such as Las Vegas, LA and San Diego! I also loved all of the nods to Ghost Adventures, as thats one of my favorite ghost hunting shows!

Let me start by saying I have never listened to the "And that's why we drink" podcast, but I do listen to other true crime and paranormal podcasts with a similar format. I'm actually surprised after listening to this that I haven't listened to theirs.

This was for sure made for their fans, I can't see someone really just picking this audiobook up out of curiosity. Since I'm not used to their voices and format it was hard to remember who was who sometimes.

Honestly I had a good time listening to this and heard some stories that I wasn't actually familiar with, which surprised me. Felt some pride when they listed their Arizona stories, and really just felt like I was binging a new podcast the whole time.

As a fellow Ghost Adventures fan, I can appreciate all of the Zak Baggins references, but it does feel a bit weird to continuously reference him. I imagine though that that's an inside joke for the podcast on its own.

This audiobook struggled with the fact that podcasters like Christine and Em excel at talking candidly to one another, but when reading a script there's an obvious awkwardness. I think this audiobook would benefit from some sound transitions between stories and a little more level mixing since it felt like at times they were at different levels from story to story.

This being a road atlas, I do believe it would be better as a book. Some of the jokes wouldn't seem so awkward because the text and formatting would do all the heavy lifting. And of course I imagine there would also be a map and pictures which would add to the experience immensely.

All together I found this enjoyable, the fans will love it. I'll probably give their podcast a try too!

What a fun listen! As a self-professed true crime junkie, this was so interesting. I wasn't previously familiar with the authors or their podcast, but was looking for a new audiobook and this piqued my interest. I really loved the structure and set up as a road trip, and it was a really interesting way to learn more about my own home state, cities I've lived in and visited, and also many places I haven't visited. Some of the stories were very well known true-crime or paranormal anecdotes, but some were stories I'd never heard, even the stories from my own home town!

I'd recommend this to anyone who is interested in true crime; this has inspired me to check out the authors' podcast.

I was not familiar with the podcast, "That's Why We Drink" until hearing this book. It is one I will now add to my list of podcasts.

A HAUNTED ROAD ATLAS is an interesting account of various true crime and haunted areas around the United States. It was very interesting to hear the details of these accounts and could make some want to travel across the country in order to visit these areas. Not only do they describe in detail the occurrences at each location, but they also provide fun facts throughout the book. I especially enjoyed hearing about locations in my own state of Texas. At the end of the audiobook is a list of all the locations mentioned. If purchasing the book, there is also a PDF that can be downloaded.

Schiefer and Schulz narrate their own book. Since I have not seen a hard copy of the book, I don't know if all of their dialogue is written, but hearing them makes me feel as if I am listening to their podcast.

I had not listened to the authors podcast before but being an occasional strange true crime/ ghost history enthusiast I was eager to listen to this one. They did a solid job of addressing one true crime and one haunting in a variety of locations across the country interwoven with their own experiences with these cities and places. Fans of their podcast will get the most out of this book and audiobook but even though I’m not one of their previous listeners I didn’t find it inaccessible.

I give this book a 3.5./5. If I had read this book rather than listen to the audio version, I would have given A Haunted Road Atlas an extra star. Some of the dialogue was awkward, I assume from the book formatting. While it works in a written form, it doesn't translate well into the audio version. The mysteries picked were interesting, and I love the idea of a list of all the true crime/haunted spots found in the United States' largest cities. I intend to go check out the author's podcast in the future.

As a fan of all things creepy and spooky and the folk Lore that every small town seems to have, this was the perfect book for me.

While I already knew a lot of the true crime stories (it's fine, I'm fine 😂). The supernatural and ghost stories more than made up for it. It was also a delight to hear the authors read their own work, there's just something a little extra special when authors get to narrate their own audiobooks.

This is the perfect coffee table book. Or audiobook to listen to on your summer roadtrip.

I remember being an early listener of And That's Why We Drink and it's such a treat to see how far they've come! Em and Christine have such an interesting and delightful dynamic together. If you haven't listened to their podcast this will still be an enjoyable and informative read. Especially if you are into ghost hunting, true crime, or just a history buff.

I had never heard of the podcast, And That's Why We Drink, but I think I am going to have to start listening to it now. I enjoyed the journey around the country visiting different haunted locations. The authors also included interesting facts about each town, memories from tour stops and true crime stories linked to the cities as well. Several stories were well known ones but others were new and shocking. I think seeing a ghost would be rather fascinating so now I have a long list of places to visit in the hopes of seeing a ghost.

I am interested to see what the book looks like. I enjoyed the audio version very much.
