Another excellent read in this series! Verity is drawn into a jaw dropping case with some extreme ghosts. Poor Ellis has his hands full as well. I loved the stuff with Virginia. The case had a conclusion I didn't see coming. And there's a lot going on with Frankie. There is a lot to love in this story and I can't wait to see where things go from here!

In this instalment Verity investigates a murder where her personal nemesis and nearly mother-in-law, Virginia Wendell, is the main suspect.

It’s tough trying to prove the innocence of someone you’d rather see locked up. But Verity does it with surprising little bitterness.

What really made this book stand out is that it felt like it was finally closing the chapter of the feud between Verity and Virginia and also quite naturally starting to bring the series to a close.

I always enjoy a new ghost hunter mystery but the character development and movement in this one was particularly standout.

Another highly entertaining and gripping paranormal mystery by Angie Fox. I was happy to catch up with the characters, had a lot of fun, and the solid mystery kept me guessing.

“Give Up the Ghost” is the eleventh book in Angie Fox’s The Southern Ghost Hunter Series. I haven’t read the entire series, but I’ve read a few of the books.

One of the nice things about the series is that each book stands alone, and you can read them out of order.

The series set up:

Verity Long not only sees ghosts, but she also talks to them. Her resident ghost Frankie, a gangster from the 1920s, is stuck on her property, and sometimes, he unwilling helps her solve mysteries. She has a pet skunk and lives in a small Southern town where everyone knows everyone else’s business.

That’s about all you need to know to pick up this book and start reading.

What I liked:

The books in this series I’ve read have been fun with action and enough zany characters to make the people of Stars Hollow jealous.

When I was growing up, I used to spend summers with my aunt and uncle, who lived in a small town where people knew each other. Gossip could definitely cause problems in a closely knit community. There's plenty of shocking gossip in this story.

When an old book that documents everyone’s secrets turns up in town, people get nervous or horrified depending on their secrets. Exposing people’s secrets is a nasty business.

When personal revelations come to light, characters have to face their past. Of course, this is a cozy mystery, so someone is going to die.

What I wasn’t Crazy About:

The mystery wasn’t too difficult to figure out, but something tells me that if you love this series, you’re probably more invested in the people and their stories than you are solving the mystery.

If you are someone who wants a good puzzle, this might be too simple for you.

Verity, the protagonist, rubbed me the wrong way. She preached at everyone as if she were a guidance councilor, trying to nudge people to make the changes she thought they should make.

This personality quirk annoyed one character after another. Using this tactic didn’t work out too well for her.

One more thing, Verity solved the murder about 85% of the way into the novel. And, yes, the story kept going. There were some details that needed to be wrapped up. I would have preferred the unfinished story business to take place earlier.

Recommendation:

If you like cozy mysteries, the story is fun, lighthearted, and enough quirky characters to satisfy cozy mystery readers.

Frankie, her ghost friend, is amusing with a gray morality and a snarky sense of humor. If you’ve already read some books in this series, you know what to expect.

If you are looking for a cozy mystery series to read, you might start with the first book “Southern Spirits."

Verity Long is having a tough time with her resident gangster ghost Frankie who has imported a farm of ghost animals to her back yard. Give Up the Ghost has Verity trying to find who murdered a very unpopular member of the community. Angie Fox is playing with the paranormal world and having a great time.

What a fantastic book! Every single time I read one of these books, I just fall more and more in love with Sugarland, Verity, Lucy, Ellis, and Frankie. The premise is interesting. The characters are very well fleshed out, the mysteries are very real feeling and not so easy that you guess who did it in the first few pages. I want to live in Sugarland and be able to see and experience everything. To me, every time I read one of these books is like coming home.

Everything just feels real and authentic and wholesomely fun. Any outside stresses just go flying out the window. It's just me the reader visiting some old friends and having some laughs. It is the best feeling in the world and one of the biggest reasons that I read. I like that I can come visiting any time that I want to. To come check up on everyone and to be able to forget the real world for a while.

This mystery was really interesting, and I loved the message about being able to dig down deep to find the better you. To let all of your past selves go and just work on being a better person. Not perfect, but better. And I never thought I would see the day that Ellis' mama would help Verity out. Wow, I mean that is huge after everything she has put Verity through. I won't spoil anything because I hate that. But that certainly shocked me.

I absolutely loved this book. I highly recommend not only this book but every book in the series.

This is the 11th book in the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries, a cozy mystery you can read as a stand-alone without being too disoriented (I did, this was my first book from this author). The mystery is easy to figure out, but the story and the quirky small town characters are fun enough to keep you going. I couldn't really connect to Verity, the protagonist, but I'm looking forward to going back to book 1 to get to know her.

Princess Fuzzypants here: This is a series that never fails to entertain as Verity and her gangster ghost Frankie right wrongs in both the living and spectral world. Throughout it all her primary nemesis has been Virginia who tried to ruin Verity for calling off the wedding to Virginia’s favourite son. The fact that the decent son is now Verity’s squeeze has not endeared her at all. But this time, it is Virginia who is sorely in need of help from Verity. She is found at the scene of a murder covered in the blood of her best friend.

It seems when digging up the time capsule, a nasty book resurfaces. The book was the source of the power of the mother of the deceased who looked upon Virginia as a daughter and taught her every nasty duplicitous trick in the book. Secrets are revealed that strip away Virginia’s ability to manipulate and harm the townspeople. Her victims, much to her surprise and chagrin, take great glee in her downfall. When the scope of how many people she has destroyed comes out, Verity finally gets the chance to tell her what she thinks. But Verity will not deny her assistance in spite of the horrible things Virginia has done.

There is a lot of action including the clearing of Virginia from the murder charge before Verity meets the original author of the book, ghostly Erma Sue, who makes Virginia at her worst look like a piker. And being dead has not really improved her. It is a toss up whether Verity is going to get out of this one alive.

Lots of fun, from beginning to end, with Virginia trying to be a better person and Frankie determined to do the same. We shall see. Five purrs and two paws up.

Give Up the Ghost is the 11th book in Angie Fox’s Southern Ghost Hunter mysteries. Verity Long and her beau Ellis Wydell are having a sunset picnic when he takes a call, gathers her up, and flies towards town. As they enter Two Sues hair salon, they find his mother, socialite maven Virginia Wydell, holding a pair of scissors, blood on her hands, looming over Twyla Sue Burch. Twyla Sue had recently come to possess her mother’s slam book, but now both Twyla Sue and the slam book are gone, and now Virginia is standing there with murder weapon in hand.

However, Virginia has an alibi for the time just prior to the phone call Ellis received and is later released. But the next day Virginia is bombarded by the folks she had kept in their place as they retrieve the items she had extorted from them. And pages from the slam book are being publicly posted.

And thus the adventure and weak liaison between Verity and Virginia is formed. Even more, on Verity’s investigation, she and Frankie learn there just may be a way to liberate Frankie from his grounding on Verity’s property. However, that price may just be too steep for Frankie.

This eleventh addition to the series is so well crafted. As always, the characters are rich and the settings imaginative, with a climax not imagined. I very much enjoyed this book and I do recommend it!

I love Verity and her kind heart leads her into trouble often. When the unveiling of a time capsule leads to the discovery of a diary of misdeeds used to blackmail residents, it series of murderous events into motion. When Ellis is called and his mother is found over a body, it gets complicated. I have hated Virginia for years. She has made Verity's life so much hard. I admit that I enjoyed their relationship in this book. They have a lot of potential for stories. Also, we all love Ellis and am ready to move this relationship along. I read this book on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

After the time capsule opening was disrupted in the last book Sugarland is trying again and this time someone's book of blackmail was found. Naturally that doesn't go without drama and murder. I absolutely loved the character growth that Angie Fox wrote for her characters in this book. They've come so far from the first book. And I love how Verity and Frankie care for each other and work together. This might be the best of the series.

Secrets, secrets and more secrets. Fodder for the gossip mill or basis for murder? We have it all in this one and Verity, Ellis and Ellis' mommy dearest Virginia are up to their necks in it all. Verity can sure use Frankie, but he is more concerned with his racehorse right now. But Verity gets his attention when a nasty spirit tells them that she grounded her ghost sister, but the sister got free. How? Frankie wants to know and I mean he really wants to know.

It all began with the opening of a time capsule that was supposed to be buried for 100 years, but got dug up for the expansion of the High School football stadium 65 years early and one of the items lead to murder and the unleashing of a lot of secrets. Secrets that Virginia Wydell really doesn't want reveled.

Verity really needs Frankie's help and they both need the help of a ghost who did nothing in life but stir up trouble and knew everyone's dirty secrets and profited from them. She won't tell Frankie how to get ungrounded unless they return her burn book. Verity wants to solve the murder, Frankie just wants to find the book.

The author has done it again with a wonderful, well-written paranormal mystery. In this book, Verity is back along with her pet skunk, Lucy. They're hot on the trail of finding a killer as they decipher the secrets found inside a time capsule.

I loved the haunted mansion and how the author weaved the story together, especially Frankie the mob ghost.

Can't wait for book 12. I love this series so much that I'm going to start at the beginning again.

This series has been on my TBR list for a while. It seemed fun, and cozy mysteries are usually just a quick fun read for me. This book definitely met my expectations with that. Having never read any of the other books in the series, it was still a good standalone, the author gave enough background to help you understand Verity's circumstances and the general mood of the small town she lived in. It was enough information that naturally bled into the storytelling, without dragging it out.

I give this book 3.5 stars mainly because I found her house ghost Frankie and that storyline kind of annoying. He definitely added some humor to the book, but it just was not my favorite part. I more enjoyed her encounters with the other ghosts and following the clues Maybe once I read more of the series I'll warm up a little more to Frankie's storyline and their ghostly friendship.

Verity and Lucy are back in another page turner by Angie Fox.
I like this series a lot, and the unique twists the author adds to the story always leaves this reader needing more.

I absolutely love this series and Give up the Ghost was no different! I quickly fell in love with Verity and Frankie in the first book of the series and have eagerly followed them along on their adventure ever since. When I saw this latest book was going to be released, I was so excited and this mystery didn’t disappoint. I loved getting to go on another ghost hunting mystery with this lovable duo! This series is one of my all time favorites and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn’t given it a try yet. The only thing I could critique is that it would have been nice to have a little more Frankie in the mystery portion of this book, but the book was still great the way it was! I can’t wait to see where this series goes next!
